well, I kinda got the same thing here on my end I'll try the USB thing and got it removed 1 night to see if that is indeed affecting my life battery since my M1 is brand new
Thank you very much man! It was the hub indeed. I got a mouse, headset and ethernet connected to my Air M1 which was draining my battery throught the night at least 30% off. I removed the usb-c hub and my mac woke up this morning with the same power I put it to sleep last night. Never would have imagined having a hub connected would have such a negative impact in my mac's batter. keep up the great work, 1 more like and 1 sub you got
Hello, Very quick question. Everyone says different things and I am kind of confused. please help. I bought a Macbook Pro M3 Pro. and 98% of the time I am going to use it as a desktop machine mainly for photo editing Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop for professional work. The question is, is it good for my battery health to keep my Macbook connected to AC power all the time, of course once a week disconnect from AC power and leave to work on buttery letting it drains to let's say 20% and again charge it? what should I do? I want to say in advance that my MacBook Optimized battery charging is ON
I don't think this will hurt it as MacOS has some built in software to regulate it. Here are some tips directly from Apple also - www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/ . In the end I have mine plugged in about 50% of the time and my battery is showing 99% health after about a year of use. I have about 80 Cycles.
Hello Craig ! Thank you so much for such a useful channel !! Actually I faced this issue just today for the first time with my brand new Macbook pro m1 pro 16 inch that I bought last November. I shut it down completely and unplugged the power adapter and 12 hours later I turned it on and plugged the power adapter back , I found out that my Mac lost 3% of charge and it was charging at 97% so does that mean that I am facing a problem ? and also I accidentally left my Magic Mouse on while my Mac was off , does that have to do with what happened ?
I would wait a while to see what happens. They always seems to lose a few % each night no matter what but if you lose like 10% per night without turning it on then you can be a bit more concerned. I would also make sure nothing is plugged in etc. Note that the Macs do a bunch of updates in sleep mode also during the first few days you have it which can affect battery early on so give it a bit of time.
Thanks for the tips. just upgraded from an M1 13'' that did AMAZING on battery, now im using the M2 14'' pro and have seen a somewhat big difference, big enough of a difference that i definitely noticed it! thank you! still looking for more things to help! I wish they wouldnt have taken away the scheduled shut down feature!
@@craigneidel thats good to know, im finishing my masters and one of the things i loved about the 13'' was that i charged it usually about two times a week. great for a student/ strength coach. Now i have to be a little more proactive, gives me a piece of mind, i legitimately though there was something wrong with my laptop......strange thing is is that its losing power when i completely shut down...im still trying to figure that one out, lost about 10% over a 12 hour night idk if thats common or not but my M1 didnt do that
10% over the night is a bit odd as it's normal to maybe lose about 2-4%. Maybe you have some apps running in the background (if in sleep mode) etc. but 10% in 12 hours is a little unusual. I would just bring it in to Apple store and let them know.
I know this video is 1 year old, but it just doesn't work for me. My 14 inch M1 Pro MacBook eats battery at night like crazy. 3-4 days on the shelf and it goes from 100% to 0% while on sleep mode (closed ofc). While I'm using it battery life is ok (about 6 hours of very intensive work and way more on basic stuff). Battery health is 100%. I have notifications disabled. I cannot find PowerNap setting, it's just not showing. Same for bluetooth, I don't have "Advanced" button at all. Only thing that I'd try out is to unplug small usb-c mouse dongle (mouse is in the office so there's nothing to connect to). Any more hints for latest macs?
It appears that battery could have an issue then as I have not seen this anything quite like that. Not sure why it would be draining that much every night. Normally it's only a few percent.
hey ...did you find any solution ? if yess ....please do let me know too. In case of mine it is draining around 20-30% on daily night basis. I don't know why
Same for me. Mine is shutting down after the battery is getting drained. Not sure if the battery issue or not because i tested why it is behaving like that and noticed the mac is getting heated up while in sleep mode.
Almost all of your tips refers to sleep mode. I bought a shiny new M2 Macbook but, being a Windows guy, I don't use it very often and, when I do, I find the battery has gone dead (my iPad does this, too, btw). If it's shut down, it should be using NO power whatsoever.
I can work without cable for hours which means my battery is healthy. BUT it goes from 80 to 0 over night. It feels like it's not even entering sleep mode. -No Bluetooth -No connected devices -No energy consuming apps running I even click sleep mode manually before shutting the MacBook to make sure, but it still drains to 0 over night
@@craigneidel and why is it so?? I also lose around 3 percent battery per day when shut down (sometimes 2, sometimes 3 or more). Whilst my Windows laptop stays fully charged for days, and it's much older! So why is it so
You can put it into sleep or if hit the trackpad and it wakes it was asleep most of the time. You should have setting also that says after x amount of time put macbook to sleep so check the settings to see what you have set. You can set that to never sleep also.
how's your battery right now? I bought mine 1 month ago and in the first days it was fine, 2-5% battery discharge over 10-12h. Now it's not that good, for example, yesterday I let it sleep at around 97%(unplugged) around 11PM and today when I opened it at 11AM the state of charge was at 75%. I left bt and wifi on, both the phone and laptop were on a sleep focus mode and my battery is at 100% capacity with only 16 cycles.(bought it at 6 cycles on a discount). Really weird/concerning.
If it's completely off and not in sleep mode that seems like a bit more than normal but I have heard that from other people too. It could be a factor on the batteries quality and other factors (each battery is different). I would say maybe 15%.
I do regularly do the startup items and things that I just dont want running in the background but I don't like having to do things everytime I put the thing on sleep.

But, I know people are just curious and that is totally fine. Thanks for watching and for the post.
As usual, a fantastic video. Great content. A few points from my end: 1) I see you have Android File Transfer. This is a demon. For me, even if I delete it from login items, it returns. (I call it my Android 'urinary tract infection'.) I've tried substitutes, but none have the functionality of AFT. 2) Although this is a little off-topic, I have a 2013 MBP. It's 'like-new', as I hardly ever use it these days, and has a very low number of miles/cycles on it. Do you think I should keep it plugged in when not in use? 3) You mention addressing viruses, et cetera. What's your go-to app? I'm asking this because this spring, I had a lengthy (multi-week) adventure about really, really poor performance on my 2019 iMac. In the end, after weeks of experimenting on my part, it was looked at by Apple after I'd essentially taken everything off it save for the OS; nothing found. So I was told that it must be something I'm importing from my Time Machine backups...although nobody along the way, not even over the phone with Apple could tell me how I could determine what it was that was poisoning my iMac. They couldn't even explain what was actually happening. All I had was the result, molasses-like performance, and the suggestion that I bring stuff back over methodically.
Thanks for the nice words and for sharing your info. Yes, that program can be a pain (Android transfer). I had talked to quite a bit of people out there and they basically say if you are using your macbook all day at your desk you can keep in plugged in. That is fine and it won't use battery. Keeping it plugged in on newer macs really doesn't hurt anything but on older Macs I have seen people argue both ways. It will help save your cycles if you are planning on selling it one day but that is about it. I tend to keep mine unplugged each night and plug it in when I'm using it and around a plug. But if I go to the coffee shop I just use battery of course. Thanks for sharing the info also on timemachine. All this info helps viewers and Mac users. Thanks.
