  • So hopefully without being too ‘show off-ish’ I thought I could show my collection of cartridges I’ve amassed over the years being played on the Analogue Pocket with the adaptors, plus the original hardware they were designed for. Also tried to include a few favourite games!
In case you were wondering I shared some of the analogue pocket footage with ‪@PixelCherryNinja‬ who has some very useful guides for installing the cores on the pocket.

It's amazing how many handhelds completely went under the radar. Game Boy was just too much of a heavy hitter to allow anything else to gain any traction

I did quite like all these Gameboy competitors but Nintendo really did seem unstoppable!

I remember as a young boy getting the game boy for Christmas in the year 1989 and I was so excited it came with the game Tetris but I didn't give a f*** about that game the game that I wanted to play with this game called super Mario Land it was a Mario adventure like never before. And then one Christmas I got this other game called super Mario Land 2 6 golden coins or something like that and that game I liked it but it was not as good as the super Mario Land 1 in my opinion. I even had mortal Kombat on the game boy I figured why not play it on the go. One of my best moves in that game was the uppercut.

I had/still have a TurbExpress, original hardware. I took it on airplanes and everything back when it was a current system. I loved that damn thing. It ate batteries so hard!

Neo Geo Pocket color was awesome. Metal Slug on a portable? Yes please! I wish I didn't sell mine.

Ooh! Can you use the Game Gear filters when playing Master System games via the GG MS adapter you showed?
P.s. i agree Lynx really benefits from the Analogue Pocket treatment, it's such a trip playing it on TV via the dock too. Same goes for the Neo Geo Pocket! The screen is so dull on the original handheld i really couldn't get much enjoyment out of it anymore (partly due to my aging eyesight!). Looks amazing with the Analogue Pocket's built-in filters, plus now i can properly enjoy Pacman again, having lost the little red 4-way joystick gate.

do you have a spreadsheet of all your owned games somewhere? like to quickly check if you already own a game before you decide to buy it ?

Yeah man, I got an old Dragonball z notepad to write down the carts I own 😅

I bought all 4 adapters. Collecting these carts are soooo expensive though from FleaBay. Any recommendations on where to get a few shoot 'em ups for each of the 4 adapters?

Awesome video I love it. I do have a question do you think it's bad to collect Repro gameboy games or no? It's hard for me to tell what's real or fake now in days when buying from eBay lol.

Heya thanks for watching the video, I am hoping to finish up a ‘Gameboy collecting vid’ eventually but I don’t think there’s any shame in owning repros, providing your aware you know it’s not a genuine cart. For example I got carts of an English fan translated copy of Mother 3 and Ninja cop (a genuine cart is notoriously expensive)

I have a friend who owns an analogue pocket, and this video is doing fine work in convincing me I should spend the money on one as well for the sake of overwhelming nostalgia. But a question- how much do these various adapters for different consoles cost?

If you want to lose cartridge saves due to sleep mode it’s perfect! I love grinding and soft resetting for hours to get two shiny pokemon just to have my save erase because the pockets sleep mode has a chance to just erase your save completely with no way to recover it unless you manually backed it up with some other tool, backing up all my gba games saved isn’t really what I had in mind for a 250+ handheld. Either play it with the games on the SD card or stick to real hardware, I made the great decision to buy four of these and they are all getting sold because they are all overpriced trash

Pretty happy with mine and frequently use it a lot but they ain’t cheap, since I’m from Europe I was very unimpressed being charged extra for customs. I think analogue need to do better at their customer service- but it’s such a lovely device to use.

These screens weren't that bad at the time. Ghosting gets worse as the screens age. Its a problem with LCDs. Even LCD TVs will start ghosting like this after enough years pass.

IMO, playing these games on modern hardware, instead of the original devices, removes too much of the nostalgia and magic of playing those old games. Trying to get them closer to modern experiences causes one to start comparing them to modern experiences - at which point is just stops being interesting or worthwhile to play a bunch of not-that-good, old games for any amount of time. As terrible as the DMG screen is, I'd rather play Pokemon Yellow on it, than anything else - even a GameBoy Color, honestly. Because on a DMG is how I played it, and because that's how it was designed to be played.
Don't even get me started on playing classic console games on anything other than a CRT...

Kinda of agree tbh, I first played Metroid 2 on my Gameboy pocket in 1996- I cannot imagine playing it any other way than on that old lcd silver screen just because it adds so much atmosphere, like an old sci fi black & white sci fi horror flick, Something that will never be recreated by playing it on a modern device.
