    This is the only one that went over basics and easy to understand- I know this is 7 months ago but it just came up in my feed-
    4070 Ti went from stock .950 volts to .900 @ stock 2490 MHz with the flat curve to the right and wow what a difference. a good 80 watts less power and cooler too ( not that it was ever hot )
    your GPU just seem to run better at the under volt in every way-
    great job !

    My first attempt of OC'ing my GPU. Great tutorial for any card! Worked absolutely as shown here for my RTX 4070. I went with the under voltage option as my FPS is working plenty good for all my games I"m currently playing. Remnant2, Elden Ring, God of War, Mass Effect

    Lowering the voltage and pumping the VRAM is the best option for most cards IMO.

  • @micb3rd
    @micb3rd ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Hi Bryan, instead of using a under volt curve try lowering the power slider on MSI Afterburner instead as it works better on Nvidia 40 series. The under volt on 40 series works differently than 30 series as it has a negative side effect of lowering the GPU Video and GPU Effective clock (you can see these in Hardware info 64). By dropping the power slider to your desired wattage you keep all the GPU various internal clock rates synchronized and FPS will be better than an under volt.

      i just did that, well i did a mix, +200 on core +800 on memory and limited the power to 87%(not a big saving), so my 4070 can still hit the 3000 core while using 170W-175W max and i'm very happy for the results, of course i could lower the power if i don't enhance the core clock but i prefer this option

      Does that include 1% lows, frame times and overall stability? If so I may have to consider the 4070 for my next desktop PC. My intent is to build a desktop which has similar or better power and efficiency to my 3070 ti laptop without any of the noise. I want to prioritize power efficiency and price to performance for this build because I just want a smoother experience at my current settings and having the headroom should I try my hand at some newer games would also be a nice bonus.

    Great video Bry ✊🥰🤩! Great to see a much better detailed undervolt / overclock video than the variety of less explained videos on the market currently. I used to overclock back in the early 486 AMD cpu days through to the Intel 3770k era ….. after that, undervolting took my heart ♥and been doing that ever since getting into the itx builds just after the Intel 4790k days 🥰👍🥳. Undervolting is underestimated imo.

    My Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4070 is a pretty wicked overclocker, I was able to go +235 core +1700 memory. GPUz reporting 2800mhz Boost, 1525mhz Memory. This was the highest I could pull in TimeSpy/Port Royal without crashing. The VRM is way overkill on this card. You can crank up the power limit to 148% (320w) which is crazy considering it's a 200w card. Even with my max OC the most I was able to get it to draw was 236w. I wish the voltage wasn't locked down... I run a light OC for my normal usage though, just +35 core +700 memory (2600mhz boost 1400mhz memory). I care more about temps and longevity than a few more FPS.

    I prefer the frame chasers method:
    Up clocks by 15mhz
    Play game
    Up clock by 15mhz more
    Repeat till crash
    Lower clocks 15mhz
    Flatten curve at stock speed with lower voltage
    Takes a bit longer but you get stock performance or better with lower power.

    This mirrors my experience with the 4070. I think I wound up running 2600@900mV just to shave off a bit more power and keep the top freq a bit more stable. Mine is topping off at 150 watts and averaging 130 watts (when using an un-capped framerate). Super useful tutorial, I need to edit mine to bump of the base uV freq as I do have occasional instability when idling.

    You should never give up performance unless you are overheating. You can actually undervolt and still overclock you just can’t undervolt as much. Much better solution where you save some power and get a little more performance

      Honestly at the numbers shown here, you should always undervolt.
      You save so much electricity, for a difference you won't be able to see at all.
      Also running on less power, means less heat and thus increased lifetime of your card.
      Fps past a certain point are just there to increase your virtual sexual organs, kinda like massive cars.
      Not going to argue about it, if the difference between undervolt and stock/overclock starts to be in 20 fps territority at under 100fps.

    People should keep in mind that the best way to Overclock or undervolt is to play the games you are usually playing or run the professional softwares you are usually running, so benchmarks are only a simple tool to use to see if things are going in the direction you want them to and by how much, meaning how effictive is your OC or UV, fps change, temps change, power draw and etc. You can spend hours testing different numbers and benching on furmark or heaven or 3dmark and etc and then you enter your favorite game and it crashes on the 5th minute.
    My way of Undervolting is to keep the same(ish) core clocks and undervolt as much as possible while pushing the memory as much as possible. The results are slightly better fps like 2-5% depending on GPU model and silicon lottery and 10-30% less power draw and temps again depending on silicon lottery and GPU model.
    P.S. Great Tutorial and decent content as always.

    I just leave mine at stock, no idea what the power consumption is for my PNY xlr8 4070, but I do know the average boost clock speed is right at 2790 and it rarely ever varies. temps on my GPU? of course YMMV depending on your setup. I have an old Antec 1100 OG case, and have a nhd15 CPU cooler, so my airflow is weird. My wife would absolutely slay me for spending anymore money on my pc, so m temps of low 70s while gaming are good enough.
    I suppose I could try to UV, but honestly I just don't have the time(and now that I'm a bit older) and no desire to eek out that extra bit of perf or lower power usage. When I do have free time, I just want to play some games on my pc and only spend time tinkering when a problem does come up(which is rare).
    Anyway, he has a good guide, almost tempts me to go home and try it, but then I remember that I might have an hour each night and i just think 'nah'

    • @NagoyaRR
      @NagoyaRR 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine only starts to run stable at 2700Mhz if the voltage is at 0.925V. It still reduces the power by 40-50W and of course runs way cooler and actually faster than stock. Ingame the 40 Series is just so efficent. My old 1060 ran always at like 110-115W at low settings. The 4070 runs almost max settings with DLSS at like 70-80W. Of course it depends on the game. Once Human on everything max brings the card to like 170W with undervolt!

    I did this with my 4070 super today at 975v , I did try 925v but it was being very glitchy and artifacts where all weird. 975v at 2760 and memory at 1000.

    yeah my 4070 Asus TUF Gaming OC hits around 60% usage in 1080p 4x msaa in furmark, same UV settings as shown in the video and it crashes. Tried bringing memory clocks down from +1400 to +1200 but seems like the core clock spike at 910mv is too much xD

    Nice video!
    - With OC you would also like to increase to power limit to get even more FPS
    - With UV I would mix it with OC so in the end you would end up with exactly the same performance as stock but will less power usage.

    Excellent video! I personally like to undervolt so that I don't lose any performance. I've done this with my 2070 super and between undervolting the gpu and overclocking memory I get the exact same performace as default settings where I consume much more power.

    • @adamantine001
      @adamantine001 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No need to set it manually on that meter when you already set it on the graph. "Curve" means the curve that you have set in the curve editor. If you raise it to 3GHz and the stock is like 2.6GHz, that means you're already applying +400MHz but you're the one who's specified the curve.

      with MPT, you can do a lot of stuff
      At around 220-240W, you can get over stock performance so I think even lower than that should be possible with still nearly stock performance

  • @CptAeRoTR

    One of the profiles must be same stock clock and undervolt, so you have the same performance and much lower temps and watts. But overall nice explanation.

    I have a Zotac 4070 Twin Edge. When trying to make undervolt below 910mv (flat curve in the MSI Afterburner curve window), the voltage does not go below 910mv. When locking voltage and clock ("L" hotkey in the curve window) below 910 mv, the clock of gpu and memory drops to 405 MHz, at that time GPU-Z and HW-Info display the idle (utilization) state of perfcap, even if some game or furmark is running (of course, performance degrades). How to solve this problem, reduce voltage below 910mv without clock drop?

    I will have to watch more of your video on try again latter. But doing what you were doing with my msi 4070 OC 3 fan model would just instantly crash with that curve you did at 6:32. Tried it with a couple lower clocks but still instant crash. Before I did what you did, I tested to see how far I could get mine to keep on working and it crashed at 1800. In the curve, I tried it at 1230,1000,800, 650.
    So just for the fun of it. I just messed around with bitch core clock and mem clock until I got the highest stable fps. Gained about 30fps. Once I booted up cyberpunk 2077, though I had to lower both a bit but still managed to keep my extra fps.
    My set up though is through an egpu with a Lenovo legion go.
