  • ever wondered how to overclock or undervolt your RTX 4070? Well this is a unique GPU in one aspect, and in today's tutorial guide we will show you how you can benefit from either Overclocking or Undervolting it, though I prefer the latter, this card really shines in both directions unlike other models, especially higher end which only really benefit from undervolting. And we throw in a review of the Spiderman RTX 4070 from Zotac (the amp airo edition). Which comes included with merch and lots of other things.

    Great video Bry ✊🥰🤩! Great to see a much better detailed undervolt / overclock video than the variety of less explained videos on the market currently. I used to overclock back in the early 486 AMD cpu days through to the Intel 3770k era ….. after that, undervolting took my heart ♥and been doing that ever since getting into the itx builds just after the Intel 4790k days 🥰👍🥳. Undervolting is underestimated imo.

    This is the only one that went over basics and easy to understand- I know this is 7 months ago but it just came up in my feed-
    4070 Ti went from stock .950 volts to .900 @ stock 2490 MHz with the flat curve to the right and wow what a difference. a good 80 watts less power and cooler too ( not that it was ever hot )
    your GPU just seem to run better at the under volt in every way-

    Excellent tutorial, best I've seen yet. My 4070 FE wasn't stable at 910mV at 2700MHz, but the tutorial gave me enough understanding to adjust from there and it ended up stable at 925mV at 2700MHZ. Not as good as yours, but it brought it under 160W, so it's still a win in my book.

      The msi 4070s boost to 2850mhz. Which is higher than advertised. These cards don't get very hot at all. So with a good case with good air flow it will boost to 2850 95% of the time i found

      Does that include 1% lows, frame times and overall stability? If so I may have to consider the 4070 for my next desktop PC. My intent is to build a desktop which has similar or better power and efficiency to my 3070 ti laptop without any of the noise. I want to prioritize power efficiency and price to performance for this build because I just want a smoother experience at my current settings and having the headroom should I try my hand at some newer games would also be a nice bonus.

      You can OC or UV, I would reccomend UV with same performance because OC could give around 10% FPS but at 210-220W while stock performance is achievable at around 150W. Low and stability is good, also depends on RAM and CPU ofc

    Hi Bryan, instead of using a under volt curve try lowering the power slider on MSI Afterburner instead as it works better on Nvidia 40 series. The under volt on 40 series works differently than 30 series as it has a negative side effect of lowering the GPU Video and GPU Effective clock (you can see these in Hardware info 64). By dropping the power slider to your desired wattage you keep all the GPU various internal clock rates synchronized and FPS will be better than an under volt.

    • @manjar233
      @manjar233 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i just did that, well i did a mix, +200 on core +800 on memory and limited the power to 87%(not a big saving), so my 4070 can still hit the 3000 core while using 170W-175W max and i'm very happy for the results, of course i could lower the power if i don't enhance the core clock but i prefer this option

  • @NathanOakley1980
    @NathanOakley1980 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I prefer the frame chasers method:
    Up clocks by 15mhz
    Play game
    Up clock by 15mhz more
    Repeat till crash
    Lower clocks 15mhz
    Flatten curve at stock speed with lower voltage
    Takes a bit longer but you get stock performance or better with lower power.

    This mirrors my experience with the 4070. I think I wound up running 2600@900mV just to shave off a bit more power and keep the top freq a bit more stable. Mine is topping off at 150 watts and averaging 130 watts (when using an un-capped framerate). Super useful tutorial, I need to edit mine to bump of the base uV freq as I do have occasional instability when idling.

    i do that different. testet a lot rtx 4000 cards. i apply -220on the core, the curve, let it there, tham drag by 975mv up to 2900mhz, that is working an all tested cards and yes 1400 on the memory is also working on all tested rtx 4070 cards. the boost is huge and the power draw is super low 🙂👍🏻 love that stuff

    • @victorallahu
      @victorallahu 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Please do not apply -200 to the core, in addition to causing instability you are wasting energy, if before 1400mhz it was running at 0.700, now 0.700 is running at 1200mhz, it is a waste of power

    My Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4070 is a pretty wicked overclocker, I was able to go +235 core +1700 memory. GPUz reporting 2800mhz Boost, 1525mhz Memory. This was the highest I could pull in TimeSpy/Port Royal without crashing. The VRM is way overkill on this card. You can crank up the power limit to 148% (320w) which is crazy considering it's a 200w card. Even with my max OC the most I was able to get it to draw was 236w. I wish the voltage wasn't locked down... I run a light OC for my normal usage though, just +35 core +700 memory (2600mhz boost 1400mhz memory). I care more about temps and longevity than a few more FPS.

Tried it with a couple lower clocks but still instant crash. Before I did what you did, I tested to see how far I could get mine to keep on working and it crashed at 1800. In the curve, I tried it at 1230,1000,800, 650.
    So just for the fun of it. I just messed around with bitch core clock and mem clock until I got the highest stable fps. Gained about 30fps. Once I booted up cyberpunk 2077, though I had to lower both a bit but still managed to keep my extra fps.

      Honestly at the numbers shown here, you should always undervolt.
      You save so much electricity, for a difference you won't be able to see at all.
      Also running on less power, means less heat and thus increased lifetime of your card.
      Fps past a certain point are just there to increase your virtual sexual organs, kinda like massive cars.
      Not going to argue about it, if the difference between undervolt and stock/overclock starts to be in 20 fps territority at under 100fps.

      I mean... half of the good coming out of the 4070 compared to the 3080 is that it uses less power so when you get the same fps with 100 watts less power and then come and lower the power even more you are just starving your GPU in my opinion @@peterfischer2039

    I just leave mine at stock, no idea what the power consumption is for my PNY xlr8 4070, but I do know the average boost clock speed is right at 2790 and it rarely ever varies. temps on my GPU? of course YMMV depending on your setup. I have an old Antec 1100 OG case, and have a nhd15 CPU cooler, so my airflow is weird. My wife would absolutely slay me for spending anymore money on my pc, so m temps of low 70s while gaming are good enough.
    I suppose I could try to UV, but honestly I just don't have the time(and now that I'm a bit older) and no desire to eek out that extra bit of perf or lower power usage. When I do have free time, I just want to play some games on my pc and only spend time tinkering when a problem does come up(which is rare).
    Anyway, he has a good guide, almost tempts me to go home and try it, but then I remember that I might have an hour each night and i just think 'nah'

    adding more info-
    I thought my high speed fan was from my GPU, it wasn't -the stock CPU fan on my 12400 wasn't cutting it- 40c plus at idle and worse under gaming- switch to the deep cool AK400 digital air cooler and with the GPU changes and new cooler- CPU now 31c while watching this- huge difference-
    I was crashing 2 or more times playing division 2, thought it was my GPU but it was my CPU running too hot-
    after doing both the GPU under volt and a new cooler- night and day difference, didn't crash once last night and cool steady-
    a big thank you

    I'm not sure Furmark is a particularly good choice of load, what with it being a special driver case for a number of generations now. I'd probably use a different program, like one of the recent 3D Marks, to ensure that the results are skewed by the driver artificially limiting load during testing.

      Yes, this aggressive undervolt loses almost 2 thousand points in 3DMark, sweetSpot is 0.950v losing only 500 points, it went from 195w to 121W, losing 11°C in the GPU, 6°c in the Memory and losing only 4FPS, with 0.910v makes 119W only 2W difference and loses almost 10 fps compared to 0.950v

    - With OC you would also like to increase to power limit to get even more FPS
    - With UV I would mix it with OC so in the end you would end up with exactly the same performance as stock but will less power usage.

    NICE try Brajan... but... the best method to reduce power consumption and lower the temperature is to reduce the power limit, e.g. to 70%, JUST move the slider " POWER LIMIT (%) ", the effect is the same and you can observe the changes & results almost live. Good & easy for american brains.

      exactly, the best way to Overclock or undervolt is to play the games you are usually playing, so it differs from people to people and games to games, but benchmarks are the tool to use to see where things are going qickly, meaning how effictive is your OC or UV, fps change, temps change, power draw and etc

    I'm able to take my memory all the way to +1900mhz before it starts artifacting in Furmark. I can go +1800mhz when running Port Royal, score starts to decrease around +1850mhz. I have the Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4070. I can't believe how much faster the GDDR6X is from 30 series to 40 series. I could "only" go +1275mhz on the memory with my Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3080 12gb. As reported by GPUZ, max memory speed was 1347mhz vs 1538mhz on my 4070. My 24/7 OC is +185 core (2750mhz boost) +1500 memory (1500mhz) at 1.1v. My Max OC is +240 core (2805mhz boost) +1800 memory (1538mhz) at 1.12v for a Port Royal score of 12503. The card actually runs at 3075mhz for the entire duration of the benchmark with max OC applied. I hold 1st place for my config, i5 12500 / RTX 4070. Now I am playing with undervolting because I like to tinker.
