The dinosaurs he saves are all Bonk's friends. Every time Bonk breaks the mind control divices by hitting his friends on the head he's actually killing them to set them free. He then has a conversation with their ghosts. Bonk's adventure turns into a brutal tale of revenge as he remembers the faces of his lost friends in world 5-5 before boldly striding towards certain death. And reliving the deaths over and over.

The only way to do this sort of run is with real hardware because you have to use the dip switches mid-run for optimal gameplay that's the fun part.
