    I been eye balling this one a few time. Since I work for them I can get my discount. Honestly I've liked the Gearwrench style ratchets so far. Unfortunately I've never owned the Williams style Duralast ratchets. The oldest one I owned are the ones right after the Williams style. So I would safely assume they were made around 2017 or 2018 cause I bought the 180 set in 18 and it was the ratchets right after the Williams design. Those I thought were good. Though I have the Duralast Gearwrench Era 3/8s flex head that I use religiously and the 1/4 which I use sometimes and they've been wonderful and I love the feel of them. I've put an ass ton of torque on the 3/8s a few times and it has surprised me.

    I've seen torture test on these the gears are strong the plate is the failed point everything flew right out but it took like 260 b4 it flew apart... if they put a thick plate on they would be nice

    OEM sells the old duralast style I've said it on a few different videos of yours but they aren't gone yet I think great neck makes duralast and oem

    Best stubby is the oem looks identical to the duralast but a satin finish

    Koken makes a stubby also same price as the icon about 40$ I think the koken is the best ratchet mechanism ever made even the old batwing will bind up but not those kokens they can't

    I have the old 36 tooth duralast ratchets and are my go to ratchets, I have other brands as SK, proto and a Snap-On, it's about how solid each tooth engagement is with the old duralast that inspires confidence that I'm not going to bust a knuckle.

    I just bought this ratchet. I agree these aren’t as strong as the older designs, but in a stubby that’s not so big a deal. I used it today pulling a zf6 out of an lly duramax pickup. Worked flawlessly. I’ve picked up the icon ratchets. They feel solid, but the ones I was messing with had horrible back drag. Meh.

      I will say it’s a little easier to bump the switch and reverse it than it should be, but that’s normal for a dual position pawl setup.

    These and the huskey are the same besides a quick release?

    I’m after the perfect 1/2” drive stubby ratchet
    Saw some earlier that you push the drive back and forth to change directions, kind of think this is a great idea because I have hitting the change direction dial in a tight spot

    Wow, your really particular. I have the same ratchet, and mines tighter than a bull's ass in fly season.

    I just picket up one of the Icon 1/4" stubbies. It had too much back drag. Took it apart and lubed it. Turns out it also binds when on a socket and levered a bit. Took it apart again and saw no obvious issues. I have to suspect the gear to pawl mesh is not "perfect" enough. Picked up a Carlyle 60 tooth 3/8" stubby. It is extremely nice and is actually shorter than the 1/4" Icon. Head is significantly thicker though.

    I have the flex head version and 1/4 of those ratchets. The flex locked up on a 10mm bolt first use. Exchanged it and it’s been good ever since. They are my beater ratchets. I’ve had them since they first came out.

    I wonder how a Stanley 120 tooth would compare to a gearwrench 120 tooth

    I bought an icon stubby got to the truck opened it felt it and promptly walked back in and returned it. Complete garbage finish and ratchet felt like garbage.

    Perhaps you should track down some rebuild kits on some of these ratchets you like so much from duralast. Maybe a Williams kit will work.

    Please review some wera and hazet tools.

      Catus likes to buy his tools in person so he can over look the condition, he'll probably have a hard time finding some wera and hazet locally.

    Speaking of icon, don't forget that harbor freight has a 20% off coupon on all icon tools. I'm assuming toolboxes too.

    Husky has a apex made 144 position twin pawl ratchet. So some of the non gearwrench ratchets get more positions

    I still want to get me a stubby but I have to have the quick release, specially on small ratchets. The kobalt 90 seems to be the best choice at the moment or the hf version.

    Very good review and extremely detailed. Idk bout you but lately i have noticed the truck tool brands are starting to do away from stamping their brand and part/model numbers and instead doing the laser/print which does not hold up over the yrs or when it comes to abrasive surfaces or chemicals.

    I really like my tekton 3/8 stubby straight ratchet. As well as there 1/4 stubby. I think they are only 72 tooth but they have been good to me for the last few month in a professional setting.

    @billlee1724 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Husky has very similar set of ratchets i bought into! Same selector switch and exact same internals, but they have locking flex heads in 3/8 and 1/2inch, Have you seen them yet?

    • @billlee1724
      @billlee1724 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update! I just picked up this one for comparison sake and I don’t know how i didn’t notice there twins except the husky’s are quick release!

    I have a flex head stubby 3/8" drive Kobalt which I like but hardly ever use it. It sounds like a double pawl ratchet, feels well made, but is too large for most of what I do.

    Huh, so that’s how they get “high” tooth counts. Shame some of the nicer Duralast ratchets are going by the wayside.

    Duralast used to be high quality for the money now there cheap as husky. Kobalt was some good tools but craftsman is taking over there tool line.

    I am interested where you heard that the old duralast tools were made by WIlliams. The ratchets and wrenches are identical to those being sold by OEMTools brand except the matte finish and branding. Search Amazon for B00AXTKXUU to see the OEMTools brand stubby that was sold under the Duralast label. I also bought some OEMTools combo wrenches that are identical to my older Duralast wrenches (the ones that had the blue/red dots).

    I bought mine a few months ago. It doesn't sit in a tool box just to look pretty. I've had no problems. If it fails, return it! Today people are all about looks. It's got a blemish! Did it do the job? Then that's all that counts.
