I have the 120 tooth xp ratches and I love them. I gave my craftsman ratches away. Buy the 120 tooth you will be happy with them.

Bought the *120 tooth XP ratchets* well I got some older Snapon 36 tooth ones (the difference in using them is AMAZING). In TIGHT quarters - it is NIGHT/DAY difference.

Pretty sure you can buy Matco guts if you don't want to bother with the warranty and they will fit right in. Also Apex made the same ratchet with a quick release button and a different handle for Craftsman.

    1. A circlip is much stronger than screws and can't come loose or fall out. 2. You can remove the circlip in a plastic bag so you don't lose it. 2. When you measure the thickness of the head, you shouldn't include the anvil. 3. Fluid film is probably a good lubricant for these fine tooth ratchets, as it's low viscosity and will entirely prevent corrosion. You definitely shouldn't use grease.

If I go with cheaper hand tools I always go with duralast. Bring it back if it breaks and they hand you a new one no questions asked. I recently warrantied a 10 year old 3/8 ratchet that I bought and they didn’t make the one I had anymore and they gave me and equivalent version of it.

    • @TheLexiconDevils

That can suck if the new equivalent is garbage which happens all too often.

Don't diss the old Proto ratchets. Their crude, course toothed but last forever. The course teeth are also less problematic when dirt gets in. I am still using a 3/8 and 1/2 that I have had since the late 1970's.

I only have 120xp’s but I plan on getting these 84 tooth ones in locking flex heads.

Looks like the 84 tooth ratchets are being superseded by the 90 tooth. Maybe the 84 tooth locking flex ratchets will be discounted soon.

@@kcuhc84 nope its almost the end of 2022 and i just bought the 4 pack of flex head 84 tooth gearwrench ratchets on amazon for 118$ and they also had locking and regular ratchets in 84 tooth, 90 tooth, and 120 tooth. i went with the 84 tooth because they were out of stock on the 90 tooth set but i couldnt be happier the 84 tooth are very nice and incredibly smooth. i also like the idea of only having 1 pawl instead of 2 which is also why i didnt get the 120tooth

I am not sure what the high tooth count is about. I really love a solid click when using a toothed ratchet. For short swing I use sprag roller ratchets. I have all brands and am pleased with all of them.

      @Patriot Warrior
I have found good sprag roller ratchets from Radian and even Chinese tool trucks. There are many aviation tool companies that offer Hi-Lock sprag ratchets also for those odd confined spaces. I don't dislike high count teeth ratchets but find them to be unnecessary.

I like the tekton brand . But I bought a 1/4 socket set and they no longer make the 5 inch long ratchet . They told me to just butcher up the plastic box and make the new ratchet fit . That really sucks so I think in time there sockets will change and then they might not fit in your kit as well . I was lucky to find a Eastwood 1/4 ratchet that was 5 inches long .

Gray Pneumatic wouldn't warranty your socket? WTF?

  • @TheLexiconDevils

Good ratchet but warranty sucks. I bought a tool shops (not big box) house brand and it out performed it. Anvil was tight as hell also.

  • @WorkHorseLT

Their warranty is a joke it's easier to buy a rebuild kits for their ratchets but I got 2 3/8s ratchet one for a $1 and the other for $6 brand new and I warrantyed 1 out they were supposed to rebuild it they lost it and had to give me a new one it took 2 weeks what a joke

What about reviewing one of those cheap cordless ratchets off Amazon? I can’t even find the 3/8ths Vonhoss anymore. It looked like a clone of a Milwaukee. Now they got Hyett, which is a clone of the Vonhoss. They say a clone of a clone is never as crisp as the original. What do you say? A hyett review would be super useful ... or the rexbetti.

I recently bought a handful of "broken" 84 tooth gearwrench ratchets that were all skipping because they were filthy inside. I want to say thanks to C-Max for educating me and giving me the confidence to try to to repair a ratchet myself. I replaced the thin factory snap ring with a thicker one from harbor freight and in my opinion it really improved the feel of the ratchet though it did increase the back drag a bit.
