Make a drum kit sound big with only 2 microphones

  • This time I tried out the new Stellar Echo from Slate Digital. I've had the Tape Echo from Universal Audio for a while, but I have to say I like the Slate version better.
To see what I could do, I recorded my jazz drums with just 2 microphones and then sent them through the echo. I used the M-149 as an overhead and the Shure Beta 52 for the bass drum. To give the drums more character, I distorted the sum with my TL Audio preamp. A little bit of parallel compression with my TX5C and DBX 160 and this is the result. I'm curious to hear what you think. Feel free to write me in the comments.
