I lost it when the lighter came out for "Guy Love". The first time I heard that song was actually at summer camp and two guys (obviously) performed it, but got kicked off stage because the adults didn't like it :(
I think you're my favorite doctor to react to scrubs, because while you point out inaccuracies in the show you also make sure to follow up "but here's why it's probably inaccurate, because the show is condensing this particular part of medicine to move the plot along" or something along those lines. You know how to separate it being "wrong" from it needing to keep the show from overwhelming its audience.
I think one of the appealing things about these videos is seeing how much you enjoy the episode. At least for me being a scrubs fan but not having watched the series for so long.
Since the show is from JD's perspective I always wondered if this is episode was actually him imagining what the patient was going through which would explain why everyone is dancing around even though her issue is purely auditorial it seems.
@Knowtheledge Thelastdayz Well, it's a bit complicated really. I've studied storytelling in it's various forms (and watched all of Scrubs a good couple of times) and I'd say it is as much from JD's prespective as you could more or less exspect from a show. Since there is no 'text' beside what is said in the scenes (as there would be in a book or a written play) many clues concerning the perspective are missing, so to speak. Movies or shows are almost never from someone's direct perspective since this would logically involve a first person view which was done before (see the movie 'Hardcore Henry') but not often. However the clues that CAN be found mostly point toward the show being from his perspective: We almost exclusively follow him around during the show and while there are a few scenes without him or episodes where we follow Turk, Elliott or even others, these are far and few between and in the latter case are clearly exceptions to the rule. We also hear JD's thoughts and even see his daydreams which in stories is a good indicator of perspective. Lastly the episode titles (except in the ninth season, which is clearly it's own seperate thing) are all in the format 'My ...' which refers to JD as can be seen in many cases. All in all it is absolutely fair to say that Scrubs is told from JD's perspective with room for the usual exceptions to the rule. Storytelling is just not always as clear cut as we would think or like it to be.
@@joelf1 You forgot that he also acts as a narrator. We usually hear his inner monologue and see his daydreams. That's why the series is from his perspective, there are exceptions though. And the last season is about the new students, with Lucy as the narrator, as JD's journey at Sacred Heart is over.
The singing only occurs when the patient is present, so it's clearly from her perspective. Also, the actor who plays the patient was on the broadway version of Avenue Q, so perhaps she mentally associates singing with dancing a lot more than the rest of us do.
I meannnnn..... god forbid if I ever have a complete psychological break from reality, I sure hope that my hallucinations are as pleasant as thinking everyone is participating in a musical about my life 😂
Talk to people with synesthesia. There're definitely some medical maladies and neuroses that sound at least more pleasant than the alternative, but it's not always sunshine and rainbows. For instance, one of the most common forms of synesthesia, itself a condition that can manifest as seeing colors where you see words, or the touch of something having a specific smell in your brain, etc... Is Misphonia. Misphonia is a condition that causes irrational emotional reactions in response to sound, as well as other reactions on top of that. For instance, in my case, chewing, lip smacking, excessive white noise, or even just discordant chatter can make me irrationally angry at pretty much anything around me. Velcro tearing, markers on paper, and some other similar noises make the back of my throat itch. It's unpleasant, to say the least.
When I was studying psychology/neurobiology one case study I remember seeing was of a person who was having small seizures in the pleasure processing area's of their brain, they experienced a blissful sensation and felt that 'god was talking to them' and refused treatment because of that, which was really sad because their brain was destroying parts of itself, but it felt good so they refused to treat the problem. I still wonder sometimes how that case turned out long term.
Music is a massive part of Scrubs. And some of the best songs were always the ones that managed to be part of the episode itself. Whether it's Ted doing an acoustic ukulele rendition of Hey Ya, or Colin Hay doing his own cover of Overkill. My Musical is one of the best episodes of the series.
Oh god 13:30 gave me flashbacks to grade school when we’d be watching a movie in class and the teacher would pause the movie at a good part to teach a lesson 😂😂 “Mr. Hope nooooo we were watching that!!”
Oh my good that's so true. I mean not even highly philosophical movies that need explanation. Once we watched Ice Age and he paused and explained it to us.
Is he a surgeon? Because if he was then it would probably be Mr Hope. I assume when he says junior doctor he does mean doctor though but even so. And I would guess his qualifications are called something like a MBChB.
I have a form of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and I get to go through life having hallucinations all the time. Never had any musicals play out, but I have become so accustom to them that I usually try to see the entertainment value they present.
Fact for this ep it was worked on by the creator of broadway hit Avenue Q a musical he wrote after being fired from sesame street. Each song in the episode is an homage to other musicals. The patient of the week originated the role of Kate Monster on Broadway in Avenue Q
Grigori Rasputin I did some digging after I saw some broadway clibs years ago Its also one of my favourites i was lucky to see the show in london about 8 years ago for my 14th birthday in the centre of i believe the 6th row it was incredible
Phoebe Chan Welcome to sacred heart is inspired by shows like guys and dolls and be our guest Guy love is inspired by modern musicals having over the top love songs bill lawrence apparently referred to jekyll and hyde as an example The Rant song is based around the generals song from pirates of penzance When the truth comes out is similar to do you hear the people sing from les mis For the last time im dominican is inspired by the tango maureen from rent Friends forever is of course grease's we go together What's going to happen is similar to rents life support song and Will I? Also from rent
Dr. Hope you are like a real life JD. A thoughtful doctor who cares and you even look kind of like him, if he were more handsome. Also when my child had to do a fecal sample I showed her the poop song video to get her over the embarrassment & gross out factor. It totally worked. :)
The lighter during 'Guy Love' absolutely killed me! EDIT: Also, when explaining the tibia and fibula, why didn't you use Nina for her intended purpose as an anatomical skeleton model? Just didn't think of it?
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 I guess it depends on the patient, "Your Cuckoo-pants" adds levity to what the patient may be thinking is a dire situation, it may calm them down or break any sort of mental downward spiral they may be having. psychosis can be serious but it also treatable so adding levity could actually stop them from exacerbating the condition.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 You cannot pretend to be wOkE but also be sarcastic and condescending towards people when they say how they would prefer to have their diagnosis delivered. Don't be a hypocrite. Some people prefer a funny and cute way and others serious and boring. It's a matter of preference. I'm a professional dancer and choreographer, and I today I just got a gig to choreograph a production of "A New Brain"--a musical about a songwriter who needs brain surgery. This video is oddly prescient and well-timed. :-P
@@fanfictioner1 hey thanks for asking! I got to choreograph A New Brain in the fall of 2018, but I have had all my upcoming gigs cancelled or postponed as a result of the current pandemic. 😕
I wonder if this was included in “A New Brain) but I’ve heard from Doctor Mike (another Doctor youtuber) that sometimes they’ll have musicians play their instruments while during surgery to make sure they don’t lose this function. Would work perfectly for a musical like that
I suffered a brain injury of my temporal lobe and the optic nerve on the right side of my brain, making the outside of my right eye blind and effecting my reading, memory and concentration. The auditory cortex isn't the part of my temporal lobe that was damaged. This has changed the way my brain remembers and hears things. If I hear things or say them out loud it gets locked into my brain sort of like a photographic memory. My hearing is better than most. I can hear things that most people can't because of how much my hearing has been amplified. I listened to a 44 hour audiobook in about 10 hours and can retain auditory information better when it's faster and my brain has to focus. If it's too slow I zone out and don't retain information as well. It's interesting how the brain works
Have you considered taking up crimefighting, because that sounds a lot like a better version of Daredevil. I jest, of course but I genuinely think that, as far as afflictions go, that's one of the benefactory ones.
You are not the first person to suggest that. Great minds think alike. But my attention span is very bad and it takes a certain sort of auditory information to stick. Sounds like traffic and people walking is extremely loud to me but when there's too many different noises in one spot that I have to focus on my brain shuts down and I zone out. It's sort of like having to restart a computer after it freezes
I love these videos. I always feel smarter afterward. Also, you seem like a really nice person and like you'd be a friendly doctor who enjoys talking to your patients. My doctor is kind of cold, never wants to talk about anything other than why I'm sick. Doesn't give an answer when you ask how his day is going. Just gives a stern look, writes a prescription, and tells me that I can go. Great video 😁
Virtual high-five (the Todd style) for this comment. Much appreciated. We need all kinds of doctors in healthcare, some more personable than others, actually the most important thing is that we are competent.
and you can sing and play the guitar too?! is there something you suck at? I need to know to feel at least a little better about myself. (but seriously though - you are awesome and I am loving your videos)
I was thinking the same thing. Doctor, good-looking, plays the guitar and sings, British accent. I'm like "this isn't fair to all us other men out there".
In one of the other Scrubs reviews he mentions how in the early days of studying medicine you're actually encouraged to do things like take up instruments and hobbies and the like because once you start working at a hospital there's not much room for those kinds of things.
You are awesome too! Don't think that you can't do anything :O Btw can you speak german? Cuz of your name ''undankbar'' it's a german word and I'm german xD But yeah I agree he can sing pretty good :D
This was sooo good :D I absolutely LOVED the part where you did the blackboard with chalk thing! Also it's just fun to watch someone enjoy and crack up at the parts that I especially liked too. I'm sharing this with all my scrubs loving friends!
Yes, I would like to know what Dr Hope thinks of the Janitor, but as he's not involved in the medical stories I don't know if that will ever come up. Knife-wreeeennnnnch! For kids!
@@Jkjoannaki it's a shame Bill Lawrence confirmed the Janitors name. I always loved the idea that he was really Neil Flynn (as in the episode where JD sees him in "The Fugitive")
Please do, "My Screw Up" - Season 3, episode 14. It's honestly one of the best episodes of the entire show and does an incredible job hitting heavy topics and how Doctors cope with bit hits.
I love that Scrubs is aware that nurses, you know, do things. If I had to choose between a nurse putting in an IV or a doctor, I’m choosing the nurse every time.
yes thank you for reviewing this, My Musical is my favorite Scrubs episode :) I've always wondered what the things were that they rattered off in the "Friends Forever" song, so thanks for explaining :)
My Long Goodbye is my favorite. Judy Reyes breaks me every time with her performance. It doesn’t get enough love. Everyone goes to the Brendan Frazier episode but this is it for me 😢
Wow... I’m so surprised how much you were able to pull out of this episode which was primarily just setting up a reason to have a musical. Love this channel for how much I learn! Brilliant!
It’s funny because this videos are THERAPEUTIC and motivating for me. Thank you for helping this aspiring Italian med student to get through the studying to pass her uni admission test ❤️
Okay... I've watched 4 of these over the last month or so... Every time I see one of your videos, I click it without thinking, so finally now... I subscribed.
Oh my god I just finished watching your last video and thinking about how much I love watching them when I saw this one in my subscription box! 😆🎉 I’m not even into medicine that much because I’m so squeamish but I love your analytical but also deeply compassionate and sincere approach to your field. It’s so cute and refreshing to see someone actually passionate about what they do for a living!!
I love that you were bopping along to their singing. Whatever their technical liberties, the goal of entertaining you was certainly achieved 😀 The lighter was a nice touch. You’ve got me comic timing too Doc 😆
Judy Reyes' (Carla) singing in this one (and she does it in one or two other episodes as well) is quite impressive. By the way, as a fan of Scrubs, these are great. I used to rewatch the show like every year over the last three years, but with your video's I'm doing a re-watch with extra context while learning something. Thank you so much.
I always, ALWAYS wanted to understand all the stuff that supposedly goes so well together in the song "friends forever". Thank you so much for finally enlightening me!! :3
In watching the commentary for this episode, the doctor for the show ( The real J.D. ... Yes, I am a Scrubs nerd ) did find some sort of medical condition where the patient thought they heard music or singing. It's been a while, but I am pretty sure I am remembering that right. Scrubs exaggerated it for this episode in am effort to produce a musical. I am really glad I found your show ... Your show is awesome!
There is nothing about this video I can't love. A review of one of my favourite medical shows of all time, the enthusiastic informational 'science breaks,' and, in the background, a skeleton who looks like he's contemplating his life choices. Subscribed!
Have been rewatching this episode just recently after reading about some similar symptoms, was blown away by how imaginative the episode is. Great timing, Dr Hope! Also extremely informative episode of Sick Notes and great singing too!
This is just perfect. I've always loved that episode but I never knew what they where singing about in the "Friends Forever" part. You're explanations where so helpful. Please keep doing Scrubs content. It's so much fun to watch.
I just want to say please don't stop making these Scrubs reviews! I'm in my first year studying bio medicine to hopefully become a doctor and Scrubs is one of my favourite shows. It's so great to see a professionals take on things happening in the show, plus your explanations of the medical terms are so well done. Thank you for making such amazing videos! :)
Thanks for doing these, i love watching your channel in general but these "scrubs reviews" are my highlight. One thing i would like to point out because ever since i noticed it, it became my favorite part of "my musical" is that everyone only starts singing as long as they're in the same room as her, they talk normally whenever she is not present. it is a small thing and of course "logical" but the fact that the writers paid attention TO these details is what i love so much about scrubs. Cheers and thanks again for the content!
Thanks for doing another Scrubs episode. I love how you credited me even though I suggested skipping this one. Guess you proved me wrong. JD "You're the only man who's ever been inside of me!" Turk "Whoa, whoa, I just took out his appendix." Second-favorite joke in the entire series. My absolute favorite is: JD "Yes, exposing yourself to a dead guy might have been a tad unorthodox, and yes, it might be a little hard to live down..." Elliot "I'm waiting for the but." JD "So's everyone else around here."
Dr. Hope: In the episode "My Nickname", JD talks about the dynamic between nurses with more experience, and new doctors. I think you should grab a nurse colleague to discuss this, and perhaps other nurse specific issues in the show. Also several episodes deal with Elliot's struggle as a female doctor, so this would be another thing to explore with the input from a female colleague.
The very last scene always gets me....the one where it's night, all the doctors went home and all she hears is the sounds of machines and typical hospital noises and is a bit disappointed and so she takes a moment to think about the joy hearing the songs was and then hums a little. Loved that scene!
Absolutely love this video, you clearly enjoyed the episode, I’ve seen the emotion you had in the “my lunch” episode but you genuinely looked happy watching this one compared to other medical show episodes you’ve reviewed
So a fun fact about this episode: The actress who played the patient is a woman by the name of Stephanie D'Abruzzo who has been both on and off boradway, most notably in the original lineup for Avenue Q (which is particularly appropriate since she played various roles in Sesame Street both before and after the fact). I'm not sure if you're familiar with that particular musical, but do yourself a favor and at least check out the soundtrack here on TH-cam if you can't find a recorded version of the broadway show, trust me.
Some of the songs in this episode were written by the team that wrote Avenue Q, and the patient, Patti (Stephanie D'Abruzzo) was nominated for a Tony for her role in that show in 2004.
I forgot this name but there's an episode in the eigth season that Turk and JD just stay out and talk to this one patient as he's on his last hours of life realizing one of the interns kind of has bad bed-side manners. And they just talk for hours and such. Please review it. Oh now I remember what it is called: My Last Words.
I thought all I could do about scrubs was watch it again and again hundreds of times. But you came along and now we have more scrubs content! So much delight! More please!
I love that you are reviewing multiple episodes of Scrubs, but I would like to see you do more episodes of House as well. Loved the video, especially when you broke down all the things that go well together
I skipped this episode so many times because I’m not a big fan of musicals. But eventually I watched it and it’s one of my favorites now. The songs are actually amazing haha
I love how he takes a moment to break out the chalk board. I love his input and the fact he takes the extra minute to walk us through what he talking about with illustration. I really feel like I’m learning. Ed Hope, you are amazing!
absolutely agree! I love "My Jiggly Ball" as well since it shows Kelso's sideof the Hospital and his struggle to make the right decisions (would be cool to know if it's actually how it works irl)
Brilliant episode and brilliant review of it! I died when you pulled the lighter out, and your version of one song, and the ones that go together 😂. Can’t wait to see more of these videos
That was one of my absolutely favourite scrubs episodes and I’m so happy you reviewed it! I’m sure I’ll never grow tired of you watching and talking about scrubs!
Brilliant video Dr Hope :) Your videos are so educational. It's adorable how you geek out over these shows. The lighter was just what that song needed. (although I think I have the poo song stuck in my head now)
I know it is an old video but.... I was just smiling through it, you enjoyed the scrubs episode, you were excited about the medical stuff they used in it, it was really really nice.... not just explaining and correcting but also having fun... you are the best! Also seeing that someone has so much excitement and interest about their job, instead of staring to hate it or start to minimise the effort putting into it... is so uplifting... I loved it and i love your guitar too! I wish you the best!
Would you consider doing more medical explanations in the future? Due to my morphology (marfanoid) I am prone to spontaneous pneumothorax and I've had a lot of X-rays, so I've heard that a lot of things can be seen on a chest X-ray. I'd love it if you could talk about it.
Dr. Hope, this video is bloody brilliant on your part - definitely your best yet! Great observations on "Musical Scrubs"! Always enjoy hearing you play your guitar & sing, and this was the perfect opportunity. Keep the great videos coming!!
You grooving to the “best friends” song while pointing to your chalk board diagram 😂 it’s one of those things that my fucked up frontal lobe finds funny
I honestly want to see him react to the episode of ER where the Helicopter landed and killed one of the doctors. (After he lost his arm cut off by another helicopter.) That is as over the top as it gets. As for the Grey’s Musical episode I saw that before Scrubs and it was enough to make me think “Man, live action shows should NEVER do a musical episode unless it’s That 70’s Show.” This show proved me so insanely wrong.
I gotta tell you, though, as much as I love Grey's, it is one of the least medically accurate TV shows out there. So you might NOT want to see it here. :)
I'm not schizophrenic, but have suffered with stress induced psychotic episodes. I can confirm they are absolutely horrendous to go through, and am so thankful they aren't a major symptom of my illness
Why is it so easy to imagine Dr. Hope having some sort of Turk and JD friendship with someone in his hospital? He seems like the type of person for something like this.
Your approach to diagnosis is so perfect. Just subscribed based on this amazing video and looking forward to checking out all of your other videos. I'm a pituitary adenoma patient (prolactinoma & now suspected cushing's disease). I'm a part of several online support groups. So many people have faced so many biases from doctors which became impediments to their diagnosis. One patient had mentioned that it took 7 years for her to get diagnosed since she gave birth to her second child and didn't stop lactating for years. Each time doctors dismissed her although she wasn't even nursing. Took her 7 years to get diagnosed, by which time the tumour had increased a lot and caused damage to her optic nerve. There have also been several cases where the patients had behavioural changes brought on by the severe hormonal imbalances but many were sent to psychiatric wards and given psychotropic drugs, labelled as bipolar/ schizophrenic. It was only after their symptoms kept getting progressively worse that they got diagnosed. The explanation given by most doctors was, oh cushing's is so rare. You couldn't possibly had got it. Rare doesn't mean non existent. Sometimes doctors do need to think zebras and not horses. You are an amazing doc for having this type of thought process. I actually felt so glad when you said it could be a brain tumour causing such symptoms. My family says my personality has changed....i never even realised it. I'm more short tempered in general now, hot all the time, have extreme fatigue and severely hampered short term memory that has affected my work. I wish all docs were like you. P.S.: I don't know if you're reading this, but if you are, could you, perhaps, tell me if prolonged use of progesterone based birth control pills given as a tool to regulate periods, administered along with cabergoline/ dostinex/ bromocriptine actually result in increased size of the tumour? There were patients who had mentioned this in my support groups and had mentioned links to published studies as well. I'd like to know a doctor's view on this, someone who is well read. My tumour doubled in size in a year although i was on cabergoline to suppress high prolactin as well as on progesterone based bc. Also, interesting how you had a lighter at the ready! :-)
I really love how excited you are with the 'Guy Love' song and even explaining the things that go well together. This is one of my favourite episode for Scrubs.
My man. I was in a drug induced Coma for 16 days and had vivid dreams that would blow anyone's mind. To this day, 11 years later, I still remember most of them.
I’m currently rewatching Scrubs - the later few series for the first time since the original airing - and its really interesting to see your videos coming out as I’m watching the episodes. You’re breathing a new lease of life into one of my favourite shows. Thank you!
Lots of comments so I wouldn't be surprised if someone mentioned it here or elsewhere, BUT Bill Lawrence would occasionally mention on the DVD commentary for the various seasons that he was friends with a real JD (where the name ended up coming from) and he often would consult him for various things regarding the show. If I remember correctly (it's been years) this is one of the episodes he explicitly talks to about going to the real JD and being like 'hey, we want to do a musical episode, is there ANY condition that could be the basis for a patient hearing everyone around them singing?'
This is literally my all time fav ep of Scrubs. The concept is amazing and the talent is top notch, also the songs are insanely catchy (I expect nothing less from the creators of Avenue Q). Thank you SO MUCH for breaking down the medical pairs in the Friends Forever song! That was so fascinating!
Another great video! Love watching your channel, it's always so educational and fun. I just had a procedure done a few weeks ago. I had a arrhythmia which developed later in my life, late 20's. I had an EPS and while I was under, the doctors burned the connection that was activating the arrhythmia. I have never been the type of person that is afraid of doctors or medical procedures. And, once they told me that I could either get this done or take meds which could have secondary affects (I am the type of person that always gets the side affects), there was no other choice but to go under. Again, I have never been one of those people that has a fear of doctors or medical procedures but, once everything was scheduled I started to gets anxious. But, I have been a fan of your channel for "a good minute" now, and watching your channel put my anxiety at ease because of the matter of fact and fun way you discuss everything. So, _thank you_ very much for all that you do. You're amazing!😊

Oh my good that's so true. I mean not even highly philosophical movies that need explanation. Once we watched Ice Age and he paused and explained it to us.
That's Dr. Hope to you, he didn't get a medical degree just to be called Mr. 😀😀
Is he a surgeon? Because if he was then it would probably be Mr Hope. I assume when he says junior doctor he does mean doctor though but even so.
And I would guess his qualifications are called something like a MBChB.
Harry East a junior doctor just means he's in residency. Still a full doctor and can take and handle patients.
This made me laugh! It's always a tight rope with copyright I only like to include enough to get the point across.
The patient of the week originated the role of Kate Monster on Broadway in Avenue Q
jordandan96 I thought I recognised her voice. Avenue Q is one of my all time favourites.
Grigori Rasputin I did some digging after I saw some broadway clibs years ago
Its also one of my favourites i was lucky to see the show in london about 8 years ago for my 14th birthday in the centre of i believe the 6th row it was incredible
Do you know which musicals were paid homage to in which songs?
Phoebe Chan
Welcome to sacred heart is inspired by shows like guys and dolls and be our guest
Guy love is inspired by modern musicals having over the top love songs bill lawrence apparently referred to jekyll and hyde as an example
The Rant song is based around the generals song from pirates of penzance
When the truth comes out is similar to do you hear the people sing from les mis
For the last time im dominican is inspired by the tango maureen from rent
Friends forever is of course grease's we go together
What's going to happen is similar to rents life support song and Will I? Also from rent
How much of that is 100 percent accurate im not sure but I can personally see a lot of these in each song
I'm excited. Never too much Scrubs
ever. best serie of 8 seasons.
Dr. Hope you are like a real life JD. A thoughtful doctor who cares and you even look kind of like him, if he were more handsome. Also when my child had to do a fecal sample I showed her the poop song video to get her over the embarrassment & gross out factor. It totally worked. :)
Jelly Bean- I thought the same thing about him being a real-life JD and that was BRILLIANT of you to show to your daughter!
at 10:00 I feel like he looks like a young Michael Keaton
This is a brilliant use of the song and I will now be recommending this to all of my friends with kids :)

The lighter during 'Guy Love' absolutely killed me!
EDIT: Also, when explaining the tibia and fibula, why didn't you use Nina for her intended purpose as an anatomical skeleton model? Just didn't think of it?
Catman she is probably so much of a friend now that it would feel like a disrespect to just use her like that XD
I thought of that too, but the reason became clear when he replayed the song and pointed at the blackboard.
Yeh I usually get a hand (or leg) from Nina when necessary, but as Thread Bomb points out it's just to illustrate the song when they sing it.
I personally think I'd rather hear "you're cuckoo-pants" from my doctor than hear "you appear to be suffering from psychosis"...
Was just thinking the same
So you'd rather be insulted rather than treated nicely and respectfully... Good choice👍
Even tho I'd personally choose the later, that doesn't mean I'll be a bitch towards those who prefer something else
I'm a professional dancer and choreographer, and I today I just got a gig to choreograph a production of "A New Brain"--a musical about a songwriter who needs brain surgery. This video is oddly prescient and well-timed. :-P
Holly Stone how did the gig go?? was it impacted by the pandemic?
It's sort of like having to restart a computer after it freezes
damn, that's pretty fascinating
Is there a name for this condition? That’s fascinating I want to learn more
I love these videos.
Dude. Get a better doctor lol
and you can sing and play the guitar too?! is there something you suck at? I need to know to feel at least a little better about myself.
(but seriously though - you are awesome and I am loving your videos)
If you haven't watched his video on hospice care, where he also sings, you'll want to. Bring tissues!
Turns out he can also draw, as seen from roughly 14 to 17 minutes in.
You are awesome too! Don't think that you can't do anything :O
Btw can you speak german? Cuz of your name ''undankbar'' it's a german word and I'm german xD
But yeah I agree he can sing pretty good :D
This was sooo good :D I absolutely LOVED the part where you did the blackboard with chalk thing! Also it's just fun to watch someone enjoy and crack up at the parts that I especially liked too. I'm sharing this with all my scrubs loving friends!
7:26 if this doctor thing doesn’t work out, you could become the next Ed Sheeran or whatever 👍
The Doctor's better :)
Why would the doctor thing not work out? He's clearly competent, passionate about the medical field and compassionate!
You missed the best part of the janitor singing about his hatred for JD :(
If he did the entire episode his video would probably be hours long.
Yes, I would like to know what Dr Hope thinks of the Janitor, but as he's not involved in the medical stories I don't know if that will ever come up.
Knife-wreeeennnnnch! For kids!
Thread Bomb he's doctor Jan Itor, chief of medicine at sacred heart and saved a very important patient who had a lightbulb stuck up his... behind
@@ThreadBomb I don't know what doctors think of him, but as a med student I know I love him the most. He's the most interesting character.
@@Jkjoannaki it's a shame Bill Lawrence confirmed the Janitors name. I always loved the idea that he was really Neil Flynn (as in the episode where JD sees him in "The Fugitive")
Damn, doc can sing and play guitar. Nice.
You seem so excited by the songs..it's adorable.
Also the breakdown of the songs was THE coolest thing.
Okay Bye.
yes thank you for reviewing this, My Musical is my favorite Scrubs episode :) I've always wondered what the things were that they rattered off in the "Friends Forever" song, so thanks for explaining :)
Lmao I loved the lighter "salute" and the way you sang along, via illustrations
Love to see My Last Words, My Finale and My No Good Reason/My Long Goodbye next!
Although more ER and House would also be cool!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yup my last word is a very deep and moving episode
My Long Goodbye is my favorite. Judy Reyes breaks me every time with her performance. It doesn’t get enough love. Everyone goes to the Brendan Frazier episode but this is it for me 😢
Wow... I’m so surprised how much you were able to pull out of this episode which was primarily just setting up a reason to have a musical. Love this channel for how much I learn! Brilliant!
Every time I see a scrubs review from you I get hugely excited! Good to see all the videos recently!
I told you, I'm Dominican!

For the last time in dominican
@@yeahyah11 Darn it, I was gonna mention this lyric!! haha
It’s funny because this videos are THERAPEUTIC and motivating for me. Thank you for helping this aspiring Italian med student to get through the studying to pass her uni admission test ❤️
You got this, friend.
The lighter during the guy love sonnggg 😂😂😂😂😂👏👏 I will replay this forever
Okay... I've watched 4 of these over the last month or so... Every time I see one of your videos, I click it without thinking, so finally now... I subscribed.
Welcome on board! Ed
Love your new background, especially the guitar 🎸.
Oh my god I just finished watching your last video and thinking about how much I love watching them when I saw this one in my subscription box! 😆🎉
I’m not even into medicine that much because I’m so squeamish but I love your analytical but also deeply compassionate and sincere approach to your field. It’s so cute and refreshing to see someone actually passionate about what they do for a living!!
when you took out the lighter I howled! You're so funny and light hearted, thank you for reviewing this episode, i hope you do more!
Every video I watch, I can't believe how informative, wholesome and entertaining they are. You're easily my favourite youtuber!
I love that you were bopping along to their singing. Whatever their technical liberties, the goal of entertaining you was certainly achieved 😀
The lighter was a nice touch.
I trained as a nurse in the early 90s. So many things have changed. Love these videos. Brilliant xxx
This channel is so radiantly positive, it really takes you away from your problems.
Thanks for doing another Scrubs episode. I love how you credited me even though I suggested skipping this one. Guess you proved me wrong.
JD "You're the only man who's ever been inside of me!"
Turk "Whoa, whoa, I just took out his appendix."
Second-favorite joke in the entire series. My absolute favorite is:
JD "Yes, exposing yourself to a dead guy might have been a tad unorthodox, and yes, it might be a little hard to live down..."
Elliot "I'm waiting for the but."
JD "So's everyone else around here."
MORE SCRUBS PLS, I love the way you explain things, it's so easy to understand, even tho I'm not medically educated
My absolute favourite episode!!! The last song always makes me cry 😭
NoracharlotteB me too
The very last scene always gets me....the one where it's night, all the doctors went home and all she hears is the sounds of machines and typical hospital noises and is a bit disappointed and so she takes a moment to think about the joy hearing the songs was and then hums a little. Loved that scene!
This episode is probably my favorite tv-episode ever. I know every line by heart. Great to hear your thoughts on it!
Absolutely love this video, you clearly enjoyed the episode, I’ve seen the emotion you had in the “my lunch” episode but you genuinely looked happy watching this one compared to other medical show episodes you’ve reviewed
Loved it!! 😁
How convenient of you to have a lighter just next to you when you had Guy Love playing!!! 😜
Hehehe, yeh pretty much had to pause the video, spend 10 minutes trying to find a lighter in my house, then watch the song again :)
It is so lovely to see how excited you get when you talk about medicine. That spark of passion is priceless. And great review, keep up the good work.
What I remember most about that ep is the hotdogs.
I thought all I could do about scrubs was watch it again and again hundreds of times. But you came along and now we have more scrubs content! So much delight!
More please!
you should do casualty! it’s a medical drama but it’s based around emergency services and the emergency room so it’s perfect for you!
I love that you are reviewing multiple episodes of Scrubs, but I would like to see you do more episodes of House as well. Loved the video, especially when you broke down all the things that go well together
Stephanie D'Abruzzo does this role great. She was also in the amazing original Broadway cast of Avenue Q amongst other things.
When this episode came out “Guy love” was heard quite often at school (high school)
I skipped this episode so many times because I’m not a big fan of musicals. But eventually I watched it and it’s one of my favorites now. The songs are actually amazing haha

absolutely agree!
Thoroughly loved this episode and your reaction to it. And it literally made my day.......
Watching this in 2020 needing this healing content.
I love how after she is cured and is missing the music she hears the janitor humming the theme song from the first big musical number.
Thank you for going on with Scrubs :) Looking forward to more hopefully
Scrubs if my all time favourite show and it's so much fun experiencing it again with you and learning new things! Please do more of these!
I already know by reading the title that this is going to be fun to watch and educational! keep up the good work Dr. hope!
You grooving to the “best friends” song while pointing to your chalk board diagram 😂 it’s one of those things that my fucked up frontal lobe finds funny
Love to see you do grey's anatomy's musical episode
Or one of the big incident episodes like the ferry crash or the mudslide
jordandan96 i agree👍🏻
I watched Grey's Anatomy's musical episode after Scrub's so was disappointed by Grey's
Grey‘s anatomy sucks balls and Scrubs is the greatest show of all time.
I also really loved the episode "Song Beneath The Song" of Grey's Anatomy. It's also a musical episode and one of my personal favourites!
I really love how excited you are with the 'Guy Love' song and even explaining the things that go well together. This is one of my favourite episode for Scrubs.
Great vid as always Doc! I've been pretty poorly recently and this was a great pick me up from my fairly crap day. Cheers Doctor Hope!
My man. I was in a drug induced Coma for 16 days and had vivid dreams that would blow anyone's mind. To this day, 11 years later, I still remember most of them.
Scrubs! I’m so happy you’re doing all this videos yay 😀
I’m currently rewatching Scrubs - the later few series for the first time since the original airing - and its really interesting to see your videos coming out as I’m watching the episodes. You’re breathing a new lease of life into one of my favourite shows. Thank you!
Ok i have to ask... is your last name actually hope?
Yes! It has served me well!

Lots of comments so I wouldn't be surprised if someone mentioned it here or elsewhere, BUT
Bill Lawrence would occasionally mention on the DVD commentary for the various seasons that he was friends with a real JD (where the name ended up coming from) and he often would consult him for various things regarding the show.
It probably was SO FUN to make too.
