Something I like about the book is that Bella wasn't just depressed bc she misses Edward, she has lost the people who truly new her. Bella has such high anxiety she struggles to let people in and the only people she let in have just left. To a teenager with already existing anxiety, depression and probably has PTSD from James it'll be really hard. But a lot of this was heavily dramatized.
Yes! And she had built this future for herself and it's like ripped from her. And the discovery of the supernatural word and feeling not good enough.

Not only was he the love of her life, but he was a part of a very nice very rich family that loved her too and arguably were better for her than her real family ( and I include Charlie in that statement after he basically sided with Jacob over sexually assaulting his daughter). Let's be honest Stefanie is homophobic and she sentenced Bella to two idiots who were still bad guys instead of giving her the girl she really deserved and she would be really happy with her
To be fair, among those who are heteros, the strongest same sex relationships often would end up being the ones that turn romantic, IF they batted for the other team. The ones that know each other intimately, without you know, the intimacy. But for those who don't quite fit that bill, they can still get close enough in a relationship, to the point where many people tend to want them to hook up if they like them, or imagine them being attracted to one another. I've tended to see this sort of thing from watching the opinions on certain IRL people's lives. And it's dumb to me. People seem to want people to be X, and people on both sides of that divide seem to do it without realizing it, by projecting feelings.
Aro is a great character, I'm gonna be honest. He's a perfect mixture of creepy and friendly and like evil but also helpful and whimsical?

I saw it as attack spells vs area of effect spells. Alice and Jasper's powers are AoE - Jasper by altering the emotional atmosphere of a room, Alice by knowing a wide amount of things that will happen that aren't just one person in a vacuum. All the ones Bella is immune to are essentially direct attacks (including Edward's mindreading, if you look at it that way).
I feel like Alice DOES love jasper and is just bi and poly so she also loves Bella. Same thing with Bella. And they’re just all in one happy polycule. That’s MY fanfic fantasy.

That’s the thing I love most about Amanda’s Twilight videos - you’re the only one to sufficiently appreciate Billy Burke.
Though I have issues with the Charlie character in the book, Burke in the movies is absolute gold.
I can't speak on behalf of the Quileute tribe, but my husband is Peoria and many people in his tribe have gotten their tribal crest tattooed as a right of passage into adulthood. Still probably a merchandising decision for the movie but thought you might be interested.

period blood isn't just blood; it's also mixed with the lining tissue, fluids, etc. sorry to sound gross lol but it is definitely not the same as regular blood by scent and make-up. in fantasy land, I think it's also theorized that period blood is essentially "dead blood" to vampires and therefore not appetizing (on top of it not being 100% blood), though it'd make them an easier target in general due to scent trail.

My favourite scene from New Moon, and one I don't see talked about enough, are when Jacob and Bella are talking by the cliffside, and it hard-cuts to Jacob's friends in the distant background just chucking one of them off a cliff and cheering.
I was laughing so hard at that.
I loved the depressed Bella because it was hella relatable, I spent entire years in a similar state and it was nice to watch someone suffer and then get out of that dark place again.

As a heavily depressed teen, new moon honestly made me feel less alone and I will always love the first two books for that. It super sucks that the rest of the series is another female teen protagonist whose story ends on children and marriage :(
I only understood the depth of Lua Nova at the age of 22, after having depression. It's a book that talked about depression, struggle, friendship and rebuilding life. As a teenager I didn't understand, but today I understand that Bella would surpass Edward as she got older. It was in New Moon that I was sure that even without Edward, Bella would still want to be a vampire.
Papercuts are no joke. That's the most believable part of this movie.

It's been a WHILE since I read the books, but I believe it wasn't about him literally being the youngest (as in the latest to be turned), but about him being the latest to turn 'vegetarian' and come to live with the Cullens. Could be wrong, but that's how I remembered it!

Oh, and I remember my exact reaction to the time passing scene (in the book). I was already quietly crying and pissed off at Edward, but then the month page came and I kept flipping the pages and my desperation kept growing. I started *bawling*. Oh, yes, I was also in the train, and people looked at me kinda worried. Yes, sometimes I'm very dramatic, but I was fully immersed in the story, ok?????
Those pages crushed me so badly I couldn't believe the time skip cause I couldn't believe Edward was going to stay away for that long. I had to go through the rest of the book to find out if he was coming back soon, I couldn't help myself.
And then was even more crushed when I realized he was gone for most of the book, I felt a lot like Bella did and God if that wasn't the most inserted I've ever felt while reading a book.
Up until this day I like new moon the less just because it was ACTUALLY painful to read through that, I felt it all!
@@eveelima1 yes, all of it. Also, I just never had any patience for Jacob so New Moon didnt have much appeal to me. Still, the sheer shock, disbelief and pain I felt with those pages is something I remember so vividly. You can say whatever from Twilight, but it really pulled you in.

He was a jersey for leaving her that way. In his defense, I think he believed his family might hurt her, so Bella being a zombie was preferable. But it was obviously a mistake, especially considering Vicwas hunting her.
I'm Italian, I was born and raised (and currently live) in Rome, but once when I was 13 I went to Montepulciano (when they actually shot the Volterra scene), and it was everything!! the only thing is that there is not a fountain and it was put there specifically for the movie :(

New Moon's soundtrack album (not the score by Alexander Desplat, which is also quite wonderful) is one of the all time great movie soundtracks for me personally. The feels transcend the book and movie, and it is one of the few where every single track is amazing. You couldn't pick better music to discover depression to!

I remember listening to A Fine Frenzy's One Cell in the Sea and Bomb in a Birdcage albums (Specifically all of the sad, heart break songs) while reading the first two novels. I thought the songs fit the story, too.
'Near to You', 'You Picked Me' and 'Ashes and Wine' describes both Bella's relationships with Jacob and Edward.
I love the entire soundtrack but Thom Yorke's "Hearing Damage" is the highlight for me. One of the hardest bangers of the entire series!

I think it's always glossed over that Bella turns 18 in this book and Jacob is SIXTEEN! Not to mention that once he phases into a werewolf, he stops aging, or ages super slowly (can't fully remember). Why is this not brought up more considering the other weird and concerning romantic dynamics happening??
This! Like, he rapidly ages to roughly 25 physically but mentally is still technically 16?! And she’s 18…. Then at 17ish he imprints on her newborn. This weird age dynamic absolutely needs more analysis than it gets, because physically he’s too old for Bella while mentally and legally too young then is too old in both departments for her daughter even though when she’s legally/chronologically seven she’ll be mentally and physically about 18… and if Jake is mentally frozen at 16 like is subtly hinted at we get this weird twist all over again.
What Stephenie was thinking I’ll never know, because nearly none of the age dynamics are healthy but at least with the way she writes her vampires the vampire ones make some sense.

Sometimes it takes time... I didn't have a serious boyfriend until I was in my 20s. I wasn't even ready for it then and we broke up(although I had wanted a relationship since I was like...12). Now, 10 years later, we found each other again and have been together for a few years now. Sometimes it's a long strange path, but if it's what you want is usually worth the wait.(I see you aromantics! I've been so jealous of y'all sometimes, you have no idea!)
And yeah, although it turned out okay, that first break up could have ruined any possible future because I just wasn't as ready as I thought I was.
My best advice? Make really great friends. Not only is it good for you and you'll have fun and emotional support on your journey... But hey, sometimes they might end up being more OR they might know someone who knows someone's hot single cousin or something. Either way, it's win/win!
(Also, covid has sucked the fun out of dating, period. You're either torn away from your SO due to covid or you're cramped together TOO much and start to get sick of each other. So yeah, pretty much everything sucks for everybody.....and that's supposed to make you feel better, I think? I dunno... I've lost myself in this rambling...)

Despite being a trainwreck Twilight does have some pretty good FemSlash fan stories. I would know because I have read pretty much every possible FemSlash pairing ranging from Bella/Alice to Bella/Rosalie to Bella/The Denali Sisters to even Bella/Victoria and Bella/Jane and when they are written well they are superior to the original story.
I am a guy if you were wondering. It just makes me sad that Twilight as a idea is so good but the execution is terrible. If it wasn't so time consuming I would rewrite the entire thing as a challenge and as a way for me to practice for original stuff >_>

I sort of wished Bella would have found that stuff hidden in her room, instead of Edward just telling her about it later. That would have made for a nice scene with her questioning the break up.
So, the skipped chapters just saying the month were superb. That was probably one of the best representations of what depression especially after a devastating high school break up felt like. I loved how it was portrayed in the movie.
Even reading these in high school/early college, I hated them because it was Romeo&Juliet/Wuthering Heights with pseudo-werewolves and sparkly vampires, but I am absolutely Team Alice. (I was not into melodrama, even then.) And I love your snarky commentary!
