No. Sometimes sexual stuff can even add to horror. Maybe if the characters were actually smart and this movie was written with more than 1 braincell it'd be good
@@dnw009 obviously, one can. one can do horror with a high level of violence. One can do horror where no violence occurs. One can do horror where none dies, and one can do horror where most of humanity is wiped out at the end... one can do horror without a hint of sex, and one can do horror all focused on sexual violence, be it metaphorically (alien) or in plain text. I agree that presenting sexual violence in a direct way is very tricky to do in a way that doesn't feel exploitative... which is why most horror on the topic tends to rely on metaphor instead of having rape as an explicit part of the narrative. Nonetheless I think boundary pushing is vital to creation, even if the experiment doesn't completely succeed. I've watched this movie a long time ago. I don't remember it all well, and I don't "love " it. Doesn't mean I don't respect what it's going for.

Never in my life had I cried so bad, and I feel sorry for my poor father who doesn't know why the hell I started avoiding him at that time. Seriously, this was the movie that introduced me to incest and it genuinely became a fear of mine.
This confirmed my desire to dedicate a video to Breaking Dawn Also because some people don't understand what Dren says at the end, it's 'inside' - which calls back to when Elsa says that there's a part of her in Dren. So it's next level gross
I saw Splice on a double date. The other couple had picked Slither last time, so we picked Splice this time. I swear to God I thought it was going to be a straightforward monster movie. When we all walked out of the theater my buddy shook his head and said "Dude, that was just wrong".

When the guy who in almost every other horror movie would be a greedy asshole with no morals is telling you you're going too far, you KNOW it might be a good idea to stop whatever it is you're doing.
it was gross, but in it's defense it intended to be, the whole point was that the characters took all the wrong decisions and did something bad and then the consecuences bit them in the ass, hard. it ended bad for them, so i would not really compare it to twilight that it's gross while intending to be romantic and have a happy ending where the main characters are rewarded for their shitty behavior instead of punished.

@@missvoorhees7964 its a possibility in this instance it could have been viewed like a pet not a person. i also wonder if there wasnt some kind of pheromone or psychic manipulation going on, that would better explain some of the characters actions and their flips in behavior regarding the creature. but i suppose it could a mad scientist versions of jeffery epstein and ghislaine maxwell, not that this movie needs to get any creepier.

@@prixe12 Not every woman, but a lot of woman. Hell, even a lot of dudes want kids. It also definitely seems like the sort of thing that if you were unable to have kids that would only increase your desires to have them.

Hell ... at the rate I'm going, I probably won't have an interest in having kids, ...and to be honest, I kind of get it. The idea that my choice to have a kid or not being taken away from me is a bit revolting. Maybe I'm just feeling some kind of sympathy. Like ... I'd find it horrible if I was suddenly pregnant, I can see why someone who would want to get pregnant would find it horrible if her uterus just walked away. @@nevermore7285 so then why isn't it a thing in media that men can't have kids? there are men and women who can't have kids, there are men and women who want kids, but it's only a trope that women are infertile and distraught over it. bc it's a thing society considers as the value of women and bc women are usually blamed if a couple can't have kids.

And yet I still think of it randomly every couple of months. I only watched it once, when it came out, but I remembered most of it. Strange.
I remember seeing the movie when it came out in theaters. I thought it was more silly than disturbing, mostly due to the acting and general plot (and also being an edgy "I'm too cool to be disturbed" teenager at the time). However, my impression of what the director wanted was probably him trying to show how depraved humans can become in their quest for discovery. They threw away all moral boundaries but they also succumbed to blind desire, whether it be scientific or carnal lust. In a way, he achieved that. But, at the same time, his method came off as gratuitous rather than meaningful.
Yes. Dren was cute. Until the switch up thing where she became he and he raped his Mom. That was just weird. Even animals don't get with their moms. Afaik. I could be wrong.

@@maximeteppe7627 I mean one can do horror without going into sexual aspects. And I mean the actual rape scenes not the nude scenes.

Yes. Dren was cute. Until the switch up thing where she became he and he raped his Mom. That was just weird. Even animals don't get with their moms. Afaik. I could be wrong.
Yeah that's a great way to put it. It feels gratuitous and often times voyeuristic. I think the building blocks were there as mentioned, but then it just goes off the rails for me
"At least no one tries to f- the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park"
I know a fanfic for that.
ahhahahaa😂
Do you have the link I mean so I can use it for, um, scientific research?
@@sharksmybeloved5030 It's called "Root Her" and I haven't been able to find a link (might have been removed) but I do know a few dramatic readings exist on TH-cam!
Why did this make me cackle??
Never ever goijg to search that. Ever.
I watched The Pianist a month before this movie, and I cannot come to a conclusion how Adrien Brody could include this movie on his resume and still have a chance for such a serious role. Good for him tho, I guess.
The Pianist was long before this movie was made, but yes I'm sure it kinda hurt his reputation after
Have you seen him in anything recently 👀 just saying 🤷🏾♀️
@@OppositeofHATE7 Right? His career was definitely hurt, in Hollywood once actors do more than three terrible movies they get benched. Sure, they'll get roles in and there but their comeback has to be very strong. It won't be the same for him.
I think Adrien Brody just thought well i win an Oscar and create new heights (him winning at 29 y/o making him the youngest) and he is just like not gonna try as hard anymore which is unfortunate but i still think he is a good actor just because of that performance, also the only good movies he's in after the oscar is the WAnderson's collabo and that one Woody Allen movie
@@ShanyShannon Unless they didn't tell him the full plot of the movie beforehand, I don't know how he didn't see it coming.
