stephenie meyer really went ahead and wrote bella's mom as horrible mother just bc she got a divorce, but thought that jacob imprinting on a baby was completely fine, yikes
I read somewhere that Rosalie intentionally created this "bland" persona and would always think about superficial things around him so Edward doesn't actually read her mind and leaves her alone and I love this idea.
I hate to admit that I read the books but, my sister was obsessed and I'll read whatever I can get my hands on when I'm bored. So, I totally agree. I do think Rosalie actually hung onto her humanity more than the others. That's why she was such a raging bitch. She wanted what they had so, shut herself down. She knew, as a vampire that her anger could lead to destruction. I feel like whole stories could have been written about the better characters in these series. I was also 90% sure Stephanie Meyer was a 12yr old girl who had no clue how to write. Tbh, the books are terrible.
@@jenniferwilson9650 Okay you didn't like the books but an awful lot did and do! It was written from a teen girls perspective so that is why it is as it is. Robert Pattinson has said that to him the books are actually Stephanie Meyers dream sexual fantasy and reading them one can understand that. At least someone somewhere thought them worth printing and then filming so they can't be that bad, wouldn't you agree?!
@@AK-fr5zv I do not think the readers are concerned about the literary standards as much as an enjoyable story. As said this book fulfills the requirements needed to entice young teens to read and mature women to enjoy. I truly believe authors write because of a need to tell a story more than for financial gain! Stephanie Meyer wrote because she had a story, a dream, that needed to be put to paper never seeing its earning potential. What she obtained is a very rare gift rarely seen in the literary world so don't squash this rare gift given to so few. J.K. Rowlings also had the need and look what it gave to her. Both ladies are unique and what happened was unique in the literary world I believe.
My father, who read the books when they came out, when he was in his 30s, because his little sister, my aunt who was around 16 at the time said she read them and thought they where bad has always said that he’s “Team everyone gets therapy”
It reminds of the trailer for “Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” where one of the characters proclaims “No keep going this is the best part!”
One of the most baffling bits of the Twilight series is that basically every vampire, every single one, has a much more interesting potential story than Bella and Edward.
I have a theory that because so little time was put into properly fleshing out the other characters’ stories that Stephanie didn’t have the chance to wreck them the same way she did with the main plot. Though ive never read Twilight so I may be entirely wrong on that
@@onelovelylilidiot4959 I read them and... yeah, that’s about it. There are several characters introduced that get little to no development and some like Alice, Jasper or Rosalie have little more than a glimpse into their backstory. So there’s much implication without actual facts - the perfect base for hundreds of thousands of fanfics ^^
@Booper Dooper ngl true-- his backstory basically involved him as a teenager that nearly died of the Spanish Flu and was turned into a vampire to save his life, some time after that he began killing those he deemed to be "monsters" and fed on their blood instead of any "innocents". He still felt like total crap after taking so many lives in order to sustain himself and tries to justify his actions, though he still ends up labelling himself as a "monster" too.
Or how those backstories make it even more implausible that they'd just willingly be high school students forever. I get trying to stay incognito, but I think boredom would win over self-preservation eventually.
*Jacob and Edward arguing* Bella: can you just be Jacob, and you just be Edward, and I'm Bella? Jacob: but I AM a werewolf, and he IS a vampire. Bella: And I'M a Virgo! The best line in Eclipse
The Cullens: We had a birthday party for one person and it almost ended with that person getting killed! Also the Cullens: Let's have a graduation party for a very large crowd of teenagers, it'll probably be fine
Jacob: Claims to NEVER take anyone's free will away from them. Also Jacob: Sexually abuses a girl, and tricks her into kissing him, without her consent.
i loved that edward emphasizes “against her will”. Hes not concerned about her cheating on him he just wants jacob to respect her wishes even if that means him getting cheated on. This is the same guy who broke into her room to watch her sleep in the first book. Do you know what that is? GROWTH.😂😂 we stan a consent king 👑
Well, he still disables her car to prevent her going anywhere without his permission, so I don't know about growth...but at least he does the bare minimum in not wanting her to be assaulted. Hooray...
@@rizahawkeyepierce1380 lol its a joke. the standards in twilight are so comically low that edward defending bella's right to cheat on him as long as its consensual, is the height of romance in this series.
@@michealfleury1226 I spent enough time reading those books, putting videos about em on in the background is one thing but searching for good, non-female written mlm Twilight fanfiction would take an eternity. I'll stick to my ownvoices novels and well rec'd fanfiction I know isn't by a "fujoshi". (You're not wrong though)
@@michealfleury1226 do you know where I can find a very well written gay twilight fanfic that wasn’t written by a 12 year old on wattpad? Asking for a friend.
I kinda remember thinking that, too xD Like, he always felt a little gay to me, because he never seemed happy with his life. And the contacts-problem in the movies didn't help with him seeming less unhappy. So...
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt bad for Leah. Her boyfriend drops her for her cousin that he ends up disfiguring and he's an ass to Leah, because she can't just turn her feelings off like a light switch.
The musical The Book of Mormon has a song called “Turn It Off” because, yeah, Mormons do believe that feelings can be turned off like that. Mormons love the hell out of the Musical since they do identity with a lot of it, which is sad. They aren’t appalled by it because it’s true stuff. In my area, the musical is so popular that, a few years ago, after the traveling Broadway show stopped here, the Mormon community in my area pushed so hard for it to come back that the traveling Broadway show spent what was to be a three-week break in traveling coming back here to do more shows. This isn’t even Utah.
And Leah is treated like she's a terrible person for being upset, by her entire community. She has no support in her group, and she has no mental privacy due to the pack lino, nor does she have any defence from their thoughts or their disgust at her "female issues" because they are deemed inconvenient
@@TheNicolevertone They harass her for being heartbroken. When she tries to encourage Jacob about Bella, she's treated like shit. I bet the book she's doing from Leah's POV will try to handwave it.
@@TheNicolevertone Leah couldn't win, no matter what. She deserved better. Can you imagine having a mental connection with so many people? Never being able to have a private thought? That would be a nightmare for anyone.
Not to mention that she's literally the only wolf with health issues due to the wolf gene. For the boys, it's just being always young and hot, for Leah, it's literally BECOMING INFERTILE. She's scared out of her wits because there's some weird shit hapening with her body, and her pack is just like 'Ewwww, it's that uncomfortable girly stuff....'
"If you ever kiss her against her will again..." I'm Team Alice, but if we must go the hetero route, then Edward is far superior to Jacob...for doing literally the bare fucking minimum.
I honestly wished Leah was the main character instead of Bella after reading this. Her backstory is far more interesting than Bella's (then again, every other character in this story has a more interesting story than our main leads). She was dating Sam, who then disappeared on her, transforms into a wolf, imprints on her cousin, then Leah herself transforms into the only she-wolf which leads her to not only having to share a hivemind with her ex who's probably constantly sharing images of his time with her cousin but to also wonder if she's perhaps broken in some way because she fears that she'll be unable to have children because she's a wolf (with the blokes essentially calling her a genetic dead-end) and none of her pack is sympathetic to her in any way, she can't talk to anyone else about it outside the pack, and I can't recall if it actually happened in the book but I think it's heavily implied that the shock of her transforming in front of him after an argument caused her dad Harry to have a heart attack and die....like, yikes! And she gets so heavily sidelined like every other interesting character. I kinda wished she was able to overthrow Sam and become alpha of the pack instead of having to join Jacobs mini-pack that he forms in the next book, which she only joins because it gives her a chance to escape Sam and the hivemind they share!
Honestly I don’t care if Edward and Bella are technically the same age mentally, if you don’t see your partner as your equal in the relationship, you probably shouldn’t be dating
To be fair to Edward, he's from a time when partners weren't equals and such a concept was more at the whim of the husband than a required consideration.
That's problematic. I want a partner who is not my equal, that has something to offer I can't do myself. For example, man and a woman date, they're not equal, because he can't get pregnant. It really does come down to being as simple as that. I guess a man dating a man would be equals lol. Don't worry, they're making advancements in the synthetic womb all the time. Before long men will be able to have children without women and we'll have real, true equality. Not so great for women though to lose their advantage.
@@RobertMorgan she means that see each other as equals, meaning one is not considered better than the other. Bella puts Edward on a pedestal and thinks she is inferior, that is not how a good relationship works.
I honestly felt the Emily bit was darker. Like the only reason she accepted Sam was because he disfigured her and then showered her with attention like "I am only man that would love you as you are now". Kinda like those abusive partners that disfigure their partner's faces so they can't leave them because "no one else would want you" situations. Great video, thanks for bringing up Leah, I always felt bad for her.
I think you’re reading too much into that. There’s no indication he attacked her intentionally or that she resented him over it, or that she was once loved by someone else but lost it after her disfigurement.
@@Gelime_ I get what you mean, but to what I remember when Jacob is talking about his friend who imprinted on a toddler it says the imprintee actually gets to choose whether it will become romantic and that the care and devotion from the shapeshifter will of course lead to that in jacob's pov. This disregards that with someone that young it would be grooming and that with adults it may be societal pressure or fear that leads to this (like that guy everyone tells you give a chance because he does so much for you even though you find him creepy). But I do agree that the world is just very inconsistent the way it was written and becomes very problematic. She may have loved Sam eventually but before he scarred her she was not willing to be with him because of what he did to her cousin Leah. This was just my interpretation, its totally fine to have a completely different opinion. Thank you for the different perspective.
@@hayleybartek8643 You may be right, I felt that way because of how I read it but its totally fine to see it differently. I do remember that they describe what happened to Emily as Sam being angry at her rejections and then totally wolfing out of control and scarring her, his subsequent devotion leading to her acceptance. I guess because they never said he hurt her anywhere besides her face that I took it as a more intentional act of disfigurement. We never get to know Emily's thoughts so we don't know if she resented him but I was just analogizing it to the real life situations where victims sometimes do stay with the one who scarred them because they feel like they can't be loved by another. Emily might not have had a lover but it is true that anyone who gets permanently disfigured would feel very insecure and especially for a young woman like Emily without a partner it may feel like she can never find one because she is no longer considered beautiful by society. Again, I have probably read to much into it, but its my opinion and I just wanted to share my thoughts and I accept that I could be totally wrong. Thanks for commenting, Its interesting to engage in the youtube comments.
Let me tell you from the perspective of straight guys. Literally every guy who watched Twilight ADORED Bella. They wanted a Bella of their own. Mainly cuz Kristen Stewart is freaking hot. This was before the fangirls and toxic people made it lame for anyone else to love Twilight movies.
“Doesn’t he own a shirt?“ Iconic also Rosalie’s revenge was such an amazing scene 😩and the scene where Alice drops from the trees onto Jasper’s shoulders is just 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
We went to watch eclipse at the cinema and people were literally laughing. When Edward gave Bella that awful ring and they did a close up to it with like, the romantic music, someone yelled out “that’s hideous” and the whole room laughed
I had forgotten that the Eclipse movie made Edward look more controlling than the books, while also softening some of Jacob's harsher qualities except for the double sexual assault, which still got played off as being romantic. If there's one thing I'm glad they changed, it was Charlie's reaction to Jacob assaulting Bella the first time. Him looking dumbfounded, while bad, was still better than him brushing of his daughter being in physical pain to congratulate a teen boy for assaulting his daughter.
That is why I like Edward. He is a very decent and noble character in the books. This is why I always shipped Ed-Bella. Bella is too precious for anyone else.
@@TheFourthWinchester Ah yes, creeping into a teenage girl's bedroom to watch her sleep, disabling her truck, tons of other controlling and gaslighting actions throughout the novel, very noble.

I’m rewriting Twilight. They ruined Charlie, that’s the final straw. - Y’all are getting therapy, so much therapy - Jacob you asshole - Team Alice let’s go - Edward you asshole - Bella shall no longer be like a plain half cooked pasta - That imprinting thing, that’s gotta go - I wish you all a very happy therapy Yahoo let’s do this
alternatively, you could get rid of Bella altogether, make Edward and Jacob better characters and better people, and give them a tragic Romeo-and-Juliet-style forbidden gay love story x) And yeah, therapy, SO MUCH THERAPY
Or imprinting on someone under age means that you have to stay out of their life until they out of their life and if you don’t, you will be executed as a predator. And even once they are an adult, it is 100% their choice. Or you know you just straight up cannot imprint until both parties are adults.
teenage me seeing Jacob kiss Bella without her consent for the first time: finds it romantic adult me watching a video that reminds me that scene existed: oh no...i supported this???
I don’t either, I was team Jacob as a young child. I watched Eclipse for the first time when I was like 11 and I didn’t know what romance was. I’m much healthier now with relationships
But they would have to acknowledge the whole confederate thing which should definitely not be written by white people. But yes I would be very interested! Esme too. And Carlisle! Years of studying medicine at night and getting his thirst so under control. His fascination with new information and his morals and compassion and wish for family. So interesting! Alice's life too. I wish we could learn more about her before she became a vampire and then everything after.
@@oli_kate Uhhh, white people existed back in the day and writing about historical periods while white is not an inherently bad thing. Granted, I think it would take considerably more skill than Meyers or most of the writers for Hollywood usually display to handle it in such a way as to not ruin the character or to showcase his growth as a person beyond his very short human life. It's rare to get a script writer who can handle that level of nuance, and even if they do there will always be people who hate Jasper's story just by virtue of his affiliation with the south but... You do realize there are documented cases where participants of the Confederate army only joined because of loyalty to their family than out of any particular beliefs about race relations. Robert E. Lee for example, had been a Union officer but resigned only a few days before Virginia seceded, after which he went on to lead the Confederate army. He didn't really support the secession of the South and only joined the war out of loyalty to Virginia. If they could build up that internal conflict of not wanting to fight but feeling obligated to do so and questioning his humanity when he ran into that vampire chick who turned him would make his transition story more interesting. That could be a compelling character study that explores race relations and the evolution of how race/interest in territory disputes stop mattering once you realize all humans taste the same. I just don't think there's anyone in any of those writer rooms who could convey that in a movie and we already know Meyers isn't good enough to write it herself, but that could be amazing.
@@lothcatskilledthesith6903 I love accidental accent appearances. My mom and I visited her aunt, and her aunt had a VERY strong southern accent. My mom has kind of a tiny lilt of one that's barely noticeable now. But as soon as she started talking with her aunt, my mom's accent just exploded and they sounded exactly alike. I asked about it afterwards, and my mom claims she didn't even notice the change in her own voice!
Honestly Couldn't Meyer just... make up a name for a new tribe? And said she took inspiration from a real tribe, give credit when admiting to altering it, and donate a bit of profit to the actual tribe Is... is that hard?
It is when your religion tells you that whiteness is a gift from god and that other skin colors are dirty because of sin. Sadly, I’m not making that up. Her church didn’t even allow black people until about 40 years ago.
Or how hard would it be to make a community of wolf shapeshifters that AREN’T connected to the irl Quileute tribe. Doesn’t even have to be Native American; just group of people who shift into wolves to protect that area of Washington state.
There's a pretty weird dynamic in the PNW with interlopers and the locals, I can remember a rather progressive associate from the area recommending 'The Egg and I' (the Ma and Pa Kettle movies were based on that book), and when Betty McDonald called the Suquamish 'mud people', I had to pause and reflect, I was that shocked and upset- and it didn't phase my liberal book club chums a bit. I can see them using and abusing tribal mythos without a qualm for their 'art'.
@@Author.Noelle.Alexandria yeah and remember, in THEIR mythos the indigenous people here are lost tribes, etc, too, just minor characters in their script, not people that are part of the land with their own stories and history. It's rather wicked.
Maybe for the movies. For the book fans, it was probably hard to tell who was better looking (though based on Bellas descriptions Edward was basically the best looking guy in human history).
Mainly, the reason people were Team Jacob was because he had abs. lmao. I really loved Rosalie. Her story of how she became a vampire was so tragic. Emmett was really kind of a himbo.
Honestly Jasper and Emmett are great people. They don't suck, Emmett is very nice to Bella and accepts her right away while Jasper protects her in the first book extensively with Alice even though he struggles to be around humans. What I really hated about this book, is that Stephanie introduced such a rich background of characters, lore (vampire and wolves) and history, but still decided she should definitely follow the girl stuck between a whinny nice guy and a control freak. Like, I wanna know what Alice did for 28 years while she waited for Jasper, I wanna know about Jasper’s recollections of the war, I wanna see the “creature in Siberia” that James hunted down! Also Carlisle’s whole story about how his father was this priest of something and they used to hunt down vampire and that’s how he was turned also his time with the voluturi is also something that interest me
Yeah, Eclipse is actually my favourite of the series because of all the interesting bacground stuff. I just chose to ignore the love triangle in the middle XD Also, thankfully, we have the magnificent thing that is fanfiction. @@saddlerrye6725 same I really like that it has action and introduces new characters and actually pays attention to their backgrounds while still developing older characters and their backgrounds
One thing (out of many) that really gets me in this is that after Rosalie pours her heart out about why she thinks Bella shouldn't choose to be a vampire, Bella doesn't take one single second to think through anything Rosalie has said. I'm not even saying that she should change her mind, but just...think about it a little. The only thing Bella takes from that conversation is that Tanya was into Edward. That is the only detail that has any impact on her
I mean, I get Bella. I would understand Rosalie's point of view but would never be able to relate to it because I never ever ever want children and really all I want is to be with the love of my life forever, that's pretty much how Bella feels at that point. Having a family of her own and living a human life to its fullest was Rosalie's dream from the beginning, so obviously it's important to her. But Bella never cared for that (okay she changed her mind when she found herself pregnant, but back then it meant little to her). I would've just brushed it off too.
@@eveelima1 Something Bella could have taken from that, and should have, is that a life in hiding, having to move all the time, prevents them from getting to have many of the experiences of life that come with getting older. Bella: Women other than me fancied Edward? ARGHHHHHH I'm gonna kill them. HE'S MINE. That's how obsessed with him she is. Why did Stephenie do that?
Tbf, it's not as if you chose your team in the civil war. It was pretty much tied to where you lived. So while you can criticize the Confederates as a whole, the individual soldiers either didn't have a choice or didn't know better.

Ngl Alice is kinda a terrible friend Alice can be just a manipulative as Edward she doesn’t care about Bella’s wishes or wants or even her well being beyond when it benefits her or Edward I think a good descriptor of their relationship as a whole is Alice is not Bella’s best friend she’s Edwards best friend From the very beginning Alice is integral in orchestrating Edward and Bella’s relationship which in itself is a very selfish thing to do in my opinion it’s quite clear that was for their benefit certainly not Bella’s it was for Edward yes and Alice wanted something to play with and Alice treats Bella like an accessory purse dog and as Bella says herself her guinea pig Barbie and Bella hates it She’s constantly forcing her to do things she doesn’t want to do and wear things she doesn’t want to wear she doesn’t pay attention to the things Bella likes or doesn’t care for Her and Edward force Bella to go to prom and I do mean force and trick her because they didn’t tell her that’s what they were doing She dressed Bella up and makes a mannequin out of her and Bella expresses that she doesn’t want to do that and she doesn’t want to be her guinea pig Barbie and Alice tells her to be quiet she says I don’t remember my human life so I’m living through you so you’ll deal with it and then the outtake she’s like are gonna stay still or do I have to get jasper to hold you down When Bella realizes realizes there making her go to prom which she very adamantly didn’t want she’s so upset she starts crying and edwards like why are crying And this wasn’t like a one time thing this is just what Alice does and continues to do for the rest of the series like her birthday party that she she specifically said she did not want that and Alice was like oh you have to let us have some fun I would think that Bella’s “best friend” would be considerate of she wanted on her birthday but not on the Cullens watch and there’s multiple times where Alice where Alice makes Bella wear something she doesn’t want to wear or do something she doesn’t want to do Not least of all the wedding Bella didn’t even want to get married as Edward manipulated her into getting married and yes that is what he did at his old age something she specifically did not want and she certainly doesn’t want to have a big production wedding and Alice guilts her into it and says if you really love me you’ll let me do this Bella and so Alice does the whole thing despite the fact that it makes Bella uncomfortable and she has nothing to do with her own wedding It’s emphasized to the point to where when Jacob receives that condescending wedding invite that Bella specifically noted she didn’t want sent but Edward sent it anyways Jacob knows right away that Bella had nothing to do with it because it’s so not her style and that she probably doesn’t even like it Of course Alice is also notorious for not just enabling but quite literally aiding and helping Edward is his manipulative controlling schemes Like when when Edward forbids Bella from seeing Jacob and her friends at la push and disables her car so she can’t go there he also goes so far as to have Alice help him to baby sit Bella and kidnap her as Alice happily goes along with it because Edward bribed her with a Porsche And not least of all but if Alice is supposed to be Bella’s “best friend” she is just as guilty as abandoning Bella without a trace in new moon as leaving her completely unprotected but that’s the thing she’s not Bella’s best friend but the really troublesome part is she claims rights to that title after doing absolutely nothing to earn it or demonstrate that she cares about Bella Like in new moon when she had the audacity to come back to forks quite literally acts like she owns the place and starts hurtling stuff at Jacob without ever speaking a word to him is not only vile in that regard but is completely dismissive of Bella and her feelings and her friend and has the nerve to be like Bella werewolves are not company to keep I can’t see past you and your pack of mutts when Jacob literally had just fished Bella out of the ocean and had been protecting and caring about her that whole time all the whole her and her awesome family including her confederate husband who tried to eat Bella at the birthday party she didn’t even want to have and her very safe brother who rectified the situation by throwing Bella into a table of glass taking her outside lying to her face destroying her self esteem ad abandoning her where nowhere to be found And I’d Bella hadn’t been keeping company with werewolves she would have been long since dead because of the problems that you created and Alice chose to take this opportunity to to be like ugh dogs you smell bad Does that sound like a real friend???
@@desaririaz1302I agree with all of this. Alice’s behaviour and attitude has always bothered me. It’s like they have to be friends because they’re both girls and love Edward, but, you’re right, Alice is Edward’s best friend.

One of the hypothetically greatest things ever would be Kristen Stewart re-writing the Twilight Saga herself - Bella would be a badass, and she'd have slept with pretty much every hot female character.
Except I feel like it would be more like Bella gets with and explores with characters who are interesting and badass. And Kristen would hopefully remove the racism.
I've always been team Jacob or at least team his family. I was all for having a protagonist actually be a native American for once and then she completely killed his character all to have Edward win the girl. This was such sloppy writing
The makeup was worse in the sequels than in the first movie. The makeup in Twilight is actually pretty damn good! They were pale but not freakish. Their eyes were...off but not inhuman. They were beautiful but not Uncanny Valley beautiful. In later ones I was almost waiting for Edward to look over his becaped shoulder and go, "bleh!".
To answer your question: "I was in the closet okay ?!! I figured if I chose the "hot one" people would leave me alone. And it WORKED." But seriously even tho I was team Jacob for that reason even as a teen Jacob's behavior in this movie made me extremely uncomfortable. Safe to say I didn't stan.

"How was ANYONE Team Jacob!?" I never got truly into the story but when classmates said "the vampire of the werewolf?" of course I'll choose the damn werewolf, they're cooler.
I think Twilight shifters are pretty cool. But I don't agree about classic werewolves. They only can transform during the full moon and can't really control themselves. It's like having a wild animal every couple weeks... that's no fun. But a Twilight shifter is pretty cool. Full control and they can transform anytime.

I’ve always been team jasper because his arc most closely follows that of the hero’s journey through hades. Being misaligned/in the confederate army; then becoming a vampire; the karmic hell of feeling the emotions of those he turned/fed from; the redemption moment of protecting Peter/Charlotte (not sure I remember their names right); killing Maria and living in Limbo; the message of hope from the maiden figure (Alice); the acceptance and healing from a righteous man (Carlisle); and the final battle which he wins not with the violence that led him to becoming a vampire, but the friends he has gathered over the years by becoming a redeemed man. I also hold him as the root of all my good hearted villain crushing. Wouldn’t it be amazing if I could be the Alice to Loki’s Jasper, etc. but their relationship actually works because he began to take responsibility for himself and choose good deeds and a righteous heart on his own 💜💜💜💜 This is the end of my essay on why Jacob sucks, Edward needs to act like he’s a hundred and not 17 and Alice is the Goddess figure in jaspers heart the end.
I love this! A lot of people recoil at the fact that Jasper was a Confederate soldier, but I think it could make for a beautiful story about redemption. You pretty much outlined what I was thinking!
The call outs against Jacob in those YMS commentaries are valid, but Adam's probably the biggest hypocrite to constantly chew out Meyer for having bizarre fantasies while he showcases on his alt Twitter rule 34 of his horsesona getting buttfucked by Scoot's fursona or Garrus Vakarian. @@aliahwelch4064 I too only watched the first movie. Even before that based on what I was told by a friend (Who loved it) I realised the entire thing was trash but I was still Team Jacob. I regret that.
I always thought that it was incredibly selfish of Jacob to keep pursuing Bella once imprinting was introduced. He admits that he hasn't imprinted on her, which meant that his soulmate was still out there somewhere. He has no idea that it will be Bella's future child. So who's to say that even if she did choose him over Edward, that Jacob wouldn't then imprint on another person somewhere down the line. He's seen the hurt that that exact situation caused Leah, why would he want to inflict that on Bella?
I personally don’t agree with this take because I really don’t think it’s fair to call Jacob selfish for pursuing the relationship because they thought imprinting was a rare it doesn’t happen to all werewolves just some so why should Jacob have to put his feelings on hold and never ever pursue anyone or any relationship just for the possibility that he MIGHT imprint in the future like it’s not a sure thing so to never pursue or have a relationship for something that might not even happen is just kinda messed up to say that’s selfish of him but also if demon spawn was never born then Jacob never would have imprinted
They could've just killed off Jacob... I mean, his story arc got destroyed in this movie, and book (not as if he wasn't already a "nice guy" in the previous book) just... the "I'll just kill myself" card, and then falling inlove with the baby in the next movie... that's definitely not a happy ending for him.
Yes that and the fact that in the books and in the movies Jacob says that the wolves who have imprinted on someone don't realise that they are not their own person anymore and that he doesn't envy them...
I think imprinting is POTENTIALLY a happy ending for Jacob, in that I think he and Nessie have a fair chance at getting more Twilight spin off books down the line. Because Nessie is a baby, they haven't really gotten a chance to tell their story. I think that's potentially someting for Meyers to mine in the future. Even though yes it's still very very weird.
Yes, when she found out a lot of people liked Jacob better she had to ruin his character to make Edward look better. I didn't like what she did to Jacob😔
I love team Alice since I first watched Twilight. Her and Jasper were my bi awakening. They were, along with the wolves were the only reason I watched the series.
I have a very big issue with Jacob because he has an imprint out there so technically a fiancé somewhere so he can never actually offer her a loving future, can't offer her a long happy marriage and if he did convince Bella somehow to be with him when the imprint shows up Jacob will dump Bella faster than a hot potato. So Jacob knows this knows that his imprint is out there somewhere but he doesn't care he just cares about breaking Bella and Edward up he doesn't care that he can't actually offer a true future for Bella but is setting her up for heartbreak and abandonment just so he can lord it over Edward he got his girl. Yeah he is a massive a**hole of the 10th degree and so is his father and the other members of the pack and the tribe for allowing him continue this pursuit just because they hate the vampire's. I also have a major issue with Bella's mother I am willing to bet when Bella was really young she unintentially instilled the notion she had to make other people happy and put other people's needs/feelings first by that when Bella was really young Bella would ask why they had to move, due to Renee forgetting to pay rent 1 to many times, and that she wanted to stay, or about not wanting to go somewhere her mother wanted to or something her mother wanted and Renee would whine at her asking her "But don't you want me to be happy." and probably when other people asked her if she could do a favor for them her mother would say the same thing but it would be "Don't you want them to be happy." basically forcing Bella to grow up thinking she had to make other people happy and put there feels first not to mention having to take care of her scatter brained mother who had to be reminded to pay the bills, rent and go grocery shopping. Willing to bet she stopped visiting her dad and made him visit her not just because she missed the sun but because she was worried about her mother the entire time she was visiting wondering if mother remembered to pay the rent therefore thinking would she have a home to go back to, pay bills and grocery shop therefore was she going hungry. I mean in the first book Bella describes her mother as scatter brained and needing to remind her to do things, makes you wonder how many times that had to move (before Renee saved enough to buy a house then it was possibly mortgage payments unless it was really cheap then no mortgage) because Renee kept forgetting to pay rent or how many times they had their power cut off for the same thing or how many times there was no food in the house because Renee forgot to grocery shop before Bella started to remind her. So Bella was forced at a very young age to be a parent to her own mother basically parentification but instead of towards to a younger sibling but to an adult, also putting her mother's feelings and happiness first (probably was not happy her mother kept switching jobs but her mother would just wine about needing to be happy so kept quiet) also her mother wanted to go on adventures on the weekend so Bella never joined any clubs so she could keep the weekends open so her mother would be happy, so technically her mother was emotionally abusive/manipulative. Also got a problem with Charlie in that Charlie left Bella in that situation as did her maternal grandparents who knew how flighty and stupidly irresponsible their daughter was so all the adults in Bella's life failed her by leaving her in that situation were she basically as a young child became the parent to her mother.
@@megannicolefoster Yeah, but it also comes with the horrific nature of imprinting. The wolfs think it's rare, but you can't say for sure it won't happen with you. You basically can't start a long-term relationship, because what if? Imprinting is forcing you to care the most about the imprintee, it's not a mid-life crisis when you can just choose to tough it out without cheating. I always wonder why noone is talking about the negative effect imprinting may have on the wolves themselves. Think about it. You may have hated this girl before 'cause she's a b*tch, but after you activate your wolf gene, BOOM, you're ready to change into anything she wants. Not cool... :S
We don't know if it's just with Reneesmee. In fact, it is implied that the imprint is with her because she has the same chromosomes, and the imprint has to do with genetics and looking for the best woman biologically to have the best descendants, and practically Reneesmee is the perfect woman in the universe. So yes, imprinting implies SEX. If Jacob hadn't met Reneesmee, he would have imprinted himself as the second fittest woman in the world and so on.
You forgot to mention that in the movie (i can't remember if it happens in the book) Bella kept coming on to Edward even though him telling her no more than once.
Bella should’ve honestly given out used pregnancy tests as party favors at the wedding if she was so worried about what people thought of her getting married so young.
Was it established that Jacob in the books was actually having thoughts and or doing acts in those ways to win the baby over time? I only watched the movies so when imprinting came up I took it as "Yes they are emotionally bound to this one person but it doesn't necessarily mean legit love/infatuation. It can be love or just the overwhelming need to protect"
@@kaimobley5324 In the books every imprinter/imprintee relationship between adluts is romantic and Jacob even asks Quil who imprinted on Claire (a 2yo) why he doesn't look for a gf while Claire is a child (meaning only until she is of age to pursue romantically) and he is confused by the question because to him there is only Claire and he will never be interested in another woman... I hope it will give you some insight on why it's weird even if Jacob does not (yet) have romantic feelings for Resume
@@Melissa-sx9vh Oh I completely understand why it's weird bcus even I was questioning why Jacob imprinted on the baby. But as long as he wasn't actually doing/thinking things to the imprintee that's good. In my opinion from the way you explained it and how I understand the word it's only grooming when your actively doing thing's to persuade the person into a more favorable position of your liking. Jacob from what you said never actually did or thought anything like that at all. It's just a weird set of events that happened without any type of control over. Like Yashahime when Sesshomaru ends up married to Rin. People said that he groomed her but in the manga and the show he never did or thought anything like that to Rin. He barely even acknowledged her existence. And even when the events at hand ended he's the one who told Rin to live with humans to understand herself. But if by chance when your older and you still feel the same way I'll think about it. But until then he completely stayed away and did nothing
@@kaimobley5324 It’s grooming with extra steps, there’s no way to hand wave it away. Especially since Alice had a vision that Jacob and Renesmee will end up together. And the fact that Sam had to break up with Lee because he could only love Emily.
@@shayla106 Sam getting with Emily has nothing to do with grooming. They're basically the same age. And yes Alice had the vision that they would be together but it doesn't mean all case's of imprinting are going to be a relationship with said person regardless of age range. And you can't really say extra steps when said person doesn't do anything to insure that in their favor in some way to begin with. Idk if Jacob in the books said anything to Belle when she woke up a New Born and she found out about it but I can say taking it with a grain of salt that in the movie Jacob himself said to Belle "It's not even like that. You think Edward would let me live if it was" and Edward saying "To be honest I'm still thinking about it" is a pretty clear sign on how Jacob feels despite imprinting and the fact Edward knew Jacob wouldn't do something like that even in the situation he's in but understandably still uncomfortable with it. In all honesty you can connect imprinting with real life people who meet kids and fall in love with them (not in a romantic way mind you) as a person. Like say when dating for instance. A man meeting a women or vice versa and they meet the kid and that man or woman has a connection with the kid and would be protective. You hear it all the time when women who date a man or is just around a man say their kid and this person have a great connection. Their kid has a Father/Older Brother figure to look up to. And vice versa. Its no different other then in the cases we know it can possibly turn into a relationship
Because Abs. Legit, back before this movie came out quite a few girls I knew hated him, then after the movie came out, they were on Team Jacob because "Taylor Lautner is SoOo hot".
I remember being so mad at Charlie during the scene after the forced kiss. Like, I already have dad issues myself having two craps ones, and I actually was liking Charlie and then he was all down for assault just because he hates Edward. I choose to believe that scene doesn't exist. We just cut straight to Edward's reaction. Charlie was, uh, at work. Yeah. That's it.
Finally, someone else pointing out how utterly screwed up the Sam and Emily relationship is. Man mauls a woman's face after she was 'standing too close' to him when he morphed in rage (after she attempted to refuse his imprint). Man threatens to end his life over said assault. (emotional manipulation). Woman lies to protect him and now has to spend the rest of her life, permanently disfigured and making sure not to piss him off again out of fear of his uncontrollable anger. They even have others in the tribe relating it was all an accident (even though they weren't there to witness the incident and are relying on Sam;s interpretation of it); enabling it all. It's literally romanticizing domestic abuse. It's royally f*cked up! (not as f*cked up as the imprinting thing - but very close).
@@fightingmedialounge519 In the end, it doesn't matter why Sam got pissed - either way, he still slashed her face in a fit of rage and she still protected him when she was asked how it happened. That's not love by any stretch.

@@briannam916 That was to protect Bella from the baby killing her which it did.(not the baby's fault). I think aborting the baby wouldn't work and Bella ends up dying. Hear me out. During the delivery they couldn't get through the sack with a scalpel because the protective sack around the baby is too strong for doctor tools. When did the sack develop it's diamond like hardness? So how are they going to remove it. It's a supernatural being, to which they have no knowledge or experience to deal with it. From the moment she was conceived she was special. She grows at a rapid rate, by the time they get to Carlisle it could be too late. He goes up there and comes back out with a bent tool. The only way would be Edward tearing her out with his teeth killing and turning Bella. Also who's to say after getting the baby out, it would be dead dead, it could still keep half alive because of her human half and growing due to their vampiric powers. She would probably continue to grow outside the womb she will need Incubators with blood feeding tube since she not feeding off of Bella anymore and she can't be breastfed either. I do not think the readers are concerned about the literary standards as much as an enjoyable story. As said this book fulfills the requirements needed to entice young teens to read and mature women to enjoy. I truly believe authors write because of a need to tell a story more than for financial gain! Stephanie Meyer wrote because she had a story, a dream, that needed to be put to paper never seeing its earning potential. She's the only reason why I even bother reading through all of the books.
So there’s much implication without actual facts - the perfect base for hundreds of thousands of fanfics ^^
probably because edward is too perfect to have any complexity

@@repulsethemonkey1396 Same, and I don’t even like Edward.
@@RobertMorgan ?!
@@RobertMorgan equality doesn't mean.. able to do all the same things....
But she also talks about imprinting as being what happens to both people. So it's like bizzare that it's not consistent.

My favorite part of this movie is when Jasper develops a southern accent for 2 minutes.
In the books, he was a former Confederate soldier.
To be fair, my mom was from Georgia but lived up north for 50 odd years. She only had a southern accent when she drank or got really mad.

Funny thing is, in real life, the guy who plays him is the son of a southern billionaire. With a B.
@@lothcatskilledthesith6903 I love accidental accent appearances. My mom and I visited her aunt, and her aunt had a VERY strong southern accent. I asked about it afterwards, and my mom claims she didn't even notice the change in her own voice!
Honestly
Couldn't Meyer just... make up a name for a new tribe? And said she took inspiration from a real tribe, give credit when admiting to altering it, and donate a bit of profit to the actual tribe
Is... is that hard?
It is when your religion tells you that whiteness is a gift from god and that other skin colors are dirty because of sin. Sadly, I’m not making that up. Her church didn’t even allow black people until about 40 years ago.

That is the only detail that has any impact on her
Because it means another woman is “competition,” and Bella only cares about one thing: Bella.
She's shallow and doesn't care about being turned as long as she doesn't get old.

@@MinisDunyasi5Alice is really a bad friend though
Alice can be just a manipulative as Edward she doesn’t care about Bella’s wishes or wants or even her well being beyond when it benefits her or Edward
I think a good descriptor of their relationship as a whole is Alice is not Bella’s best friend she’s Edwards best friend
From the very beginning Alice is integral in orchestrating Edward and Bella’s relationship which in itself is a very selfish thing to do in my opinion it’s quite clear that was for their benefit certainly not Bella’s it was for Edward yes and Alice wanted something to play with and Alice treats Bella like an accessory purse dog and as Bella says herself her guinea pig Barbie and Bella hates it
She’s constantly forcing her to do things she doesn’t want to do and wear things she doesn’t want to wear she doesn’t pay attention to the things Bella likes or doesn’t care for
Her and Edward force Bella to go to prom and I do mean force and trick her because they didn’t tell her that’s what they were doing
She dressed Bella up and makes a mannequin out of her and Bella expresses that she doesn’t want to do that and she doesn’t want to be her guinea pig Barbie and Alice tells her to be quiet she says I don’t remember my human life so I’m living through you so you’ll deal with it and then the outtake she’s like are gonna stay still or do I have to get jasper to hold you down
When Bella realizes realizes there making her go to prom which she very adamantly didn’t want she’s so upset she starts crying and edwards like why are crying
And this wasn’t like a one time thing this is just what Alice does and continues to do for the rest of the series like her birthday party that she she specifically said she did not want that and Alice was like oh you have to let us have some fun
I would think that Bella’s “best friend” would be considerate of she wanted on her birthday but not on the Cullens watch and there’s multiple times where Alice where Alice makes Bella wear something she doesn’t want to wear or do something she doesn’t want to do
Not least of all the wedding Bella didn’t even want to get married as Edward manipulated her into getting married and yes that is what he did at his old age something she specifically did not want and she certainly doesn’t want to have a big production wedding and Alice guilts her into it and says if you really love me you’ll let me do this Bella and so Alice does the whole thing despite the fact that it makes Bella uncomfortable and she has nothing to do with her own wedding
It’s emphasized to the point to where when Jacob receives that condescending wedding invite that Bella specifically noted she didn’t want sent but Edward sent it anyways Jacob knows right away that Bella had nothing to do with it because it’s so not her style and that she probably doesn’t even like it
Of course Alice is also notorious for not just enabling but quite literally aiding and helping Edward is his manipulative controlling schemes

Alice always felt to me like the Twilight equivalent of Luna Lovegood: both are quirky and oddly adorable but they’re not afraid to defend themselves when challenged in some fashion but are overall nice.

Oh my god, I was always Team Jasper as a teen because Edward obviously wasn‘t depressed and brooding enough for me and I think I already got that Jacob was an abusive peace of shit, but back then, as a 14 year old girl from Europe, I did not know what it meant that Jasper was part of the mothereffing confederate army?!?! Why did Stephenie do that?
Could've been an easy fix to be the Union army but no
Tbf, it's not as if you chose your team in the civil war. It was pretty much tied to where you lived. So while you can criticize the Confederates as a whole, the individual soldiers either didn't have a choice or didn't know better.
@@briankaslewicz6130 Jasper could have fought in any other war, WWI, WWII, Cold War, a naval war (vampire pirates!)... Hell even for another country, to throw in some diversity!

@@emmaatkinson7379 hmmmmmmmmmmm interesting theory

Honestly the only person I feel even a grain of sympathy for in this entire book series is probably Charlie. He has to go through so much throughout the series and in the end just ends up being kept in the dark by his own daughter. All of the other characters in the series are either too manipulative or stupid to root for. Except for Alice. Alice is freaking great.
I jumped off the Charlie bandwagon in Eclipse. If that poor excuse for a father/law enforcement officer will side with the guy who sexually assaulted his daughter, he deserves to be kept in the dark.
i love your pfp
I don't disagree but how do you break out to your dad that not only his daughter is dating a vampire, but the world is also full of them? Oh by the way werewolves are a thing, too! All good? Nice! Don't worry about me daddy all is fine!😂
Ngl Alice is kinda a terrible friend
Like when when Edward forbids Bella from seeing Jacob and her friends at la push and disables her car so she can’t go there he also goes so far as to have Alice help him to baby sit Bella and kidnap her as Alice happily goes along with it because Edward bribed her with a Porsche
And not least of all but if Alice is supposed to be Bella’s “best friend” she is just as guilty as abandoning Bella without a trace in new moon as leaving her completely unprotected but that’s the thing she’s not Bella’s best friend but the really troublesome part is she claims rights to that title after doing absolutely nothing to earn it or demonstrate that she cares about Bella

I also hold him as the root of all my good hearted villain crushing. Wouldn’t it be amazing if I could be the Alice to Loki’s Jasper, etc. but their relationship actually works because he began to take responsibility for himself and choose good deeds and a righteous heart on his own 💜💜💜💜

It always baffle me how Stephanie thought about the whole concept of imprinting, stopped, and said "yeah, this is a good solution"

I mean he could have died a hero during the newborn battle
Ok to be fair he probably died doing something stupid but would have been seen as a hero
Yes Stephanie noticed anyone other than Edward was just better than him so she systematically destroys or lessens the role of other characters.

Funny how she had a crush on one of her own characters, wanted everyone else to feel the same and threw a tantrum when they didn't.

He may never have met his imprintee.
Each wolf doesn’t automatically have an imprintee. It’s rare so he was assuming he just didn’t have one which is a fair assumption.
Not cool... :S
If Bella ends up with Jacob. Resume will never happen. Then there's no way Jacob will be imprinted. Because Resume is Bella and Edward's baby.

Bella: "I don't like you"
Jacob: "I don't believe you!!"
To play Meyers advocate. That incident was more about Emily comparing Sam to his deadbeat dad.
@@fightingmedialounge519 Elaborate, please.
@@madamefluffy4788 basically Emily got so fed up with Sam she compared him to his dad who left him. Sam lost control and you know the rest.
@@fightingmedialounge519 In the end, it doesn't matter why Sam got pissed - either way, he still slashed her face in a fit of rage and she still protected him when she was asked how it happened.
That's not love by any stretch.
@@madamefluffy4788 I never said Sam was in the rothr or that their relationship was healthy. Just that the events let up to the disfiguring were a bit complicated.
Despite his flaws at least Edward never forced a kiss from Bella.
You know teenage book relationships are problematic when not assaulting their partner is an outstanding positive character trait
@@Sophie-by9un yup that's a clear giveaway.
That’s like saying a turd with a little hat on it is better then a run of the mill turd: sure it’s true to an extent but you can’t ignore the glaring fact that it’s a turd.
Ehhh, I mean he did try to force her to have an abortion.
Well it's either that or blood bottle feedings in the dungeon, I mean basement, with mommy for a two weeks.
Sorry I went off a bit.
Weirdly enough
I didn't notice the wig at first
But once you see it, you CANNOT ignore it. It's a curse
25:44 Thanks for the PSA, Amanda. Speaking from personal experience, that type of manipulation is quite scarring if done by someone you care for deeply. I fear the worst part about this series of books and films is that some girls would pursue people like Jacob or Edward and romanticize those kinds of relationships.
tbh the short life of bree tanner is my favorite of the books and i wish her life wasnt that short
