    Cole is an absolute beast for sure. He posts almost every year, and really has been a valuable piece to all the teams he’s been on. In my opinion he should be chasing his 3rd Cy Young not his 1st. Should have won over Verlander in 2019 and really should have edged out Ray 2 years ago.

    • @bakaraka5880

      You can't be a worthy Cy Young winner for 2021 because of what happened in 2022 and 2023?
      That's just nonsense. It is like when people say Judge didn't deserve MVP for the 2022 regular season after a bad post season. They are awards for a specific period of time. Period. Anything before or after that period is irrelevant.

    Respect for you for admitting you were wrong. The craziest thing about Cole is he really isn't blowing hitters away with his 100MPH fastballs nearly as much. He tops out around 97-98 and his secondary pitches this season were deadly. That's the sign of a guy who will still continue to dominate well into his late 30's.

    How was the $215M Kershaw contract not mentioned? I agree that the Scherzer contract was better for the team but Kershaw's was more expensive and by my count is the most expensive contract in MLB history that actually worked out from beginning to end. That's worth recognition.

    As an Ohtani fan and Yankees hater. I agree this dude has been a consistent workhorse over his contract. It is important with all the injuries we are seeing with hard throwing starters, availability is the most important asset to have these days.
    He has held up his end of the bargain and more for the Yankees. The rest of the team not so much.

    You don’t understand the award. It’s not the best pitcher on a great team. It’s the best pitcher in baseball. And you’re wrong. A crappy team is tough enough to do well with and win. If a pitcher can still win with a bad team that’s more impressive. Think about what stats they would have if they team they played for scored more.

    Everyone forgets that Cole was dealing with a hamstring injury in September 2021 and pitched through it which ultimately lost him the Cy Young to Robbie Ray, and could argue was a huge reason he got rocked around by the Red Sox in the wildcard game.

      Robbie Ray absolutely robbed Cole in 2021 when Cole was equally as good. The following year in 2022 Ray was awful and also cost the Mariners in the playoffs while Cole carried the Yanks through the entire ALDS. 2023 Ray has been out the entire year, time has proved who actually deserved that CY Young.

    You can't count on just 2 guys, Cole and Judge to take a team to the postseason. Take away the 2-month absence of Judge, it might have actually made a difference. That's how important these 2 guys are to the team. Here is the reality
    Cole’s motion is so natural he isn’t hurting himself throwing the high 90s/100 he does he just doesn’t have a violent motion that would lead to those injuries. Look at DeGrom to see what I mean he is much smoother than anyone out there

    • @yankeefederer1994
      @yankeefederer1994 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's also built for velocity. Some players have the perfect mix of smooth, explosive, and power.

    • @rickdiaz3657
      @rickdiaz3657 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Another thing is that he does not abuse throwing slider or sweeper, that pitch is the one that hurts the elbow the most. I think that's what has led Ohtani to have 2 Tommy John surgeries.

    • @willppp
      @willppp ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rickdiaz3657 I also think that it is his really short delivery that doesn’t have that much arm movement especially compared to someone like Ohtani.
      To me the incredible thing is that Scherzer has just started really with the injury issues. With just how violent his arm motion is. I guess it is because he was never getting to 100 it saved his arm from the extra damage of high velocity.

    If you make over 300 milli, then you SHOULD be the best. But his impact every 5-6 days isn’t helpful on this Yankee team.

    As a Pirates fan who saw him in person several times, I think he’s overrated. He was terrible most of 2016 and 2017. Then once he left he started trying again.
