  • Join Lukasz Palka from @EYExplore as he ventures into the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo in the rain. He describes how to take advantage of these weather conditions for Street Photography whilst using the GR III.
    He goes on to explain how to shoot one-handed whilst holding an umbrella - not only to protect the camera from the weather, but also himself! Taking advantage of reflective surfaces such as drain covers and he also gets some great silhouette shots by being in the right place at the right time.

    Another entertaining and informative video, Lukasz. I really like the way you show the streets and your approach to photography. My favourite of this video is the photo at 12:53 with the contrast of both sides: the restaurant and smiley on the left side, the locker room and shadow on the right side. Great job!

    So I’m a year late watching this, shooting in the rain is nothing like shooting in the not rain!
    Have you never thought why are the streets wet in so many movies when every day is sunny?
    Because it’s beautiful and magical and DPs insist that the SFX department do a full wet-down for night shoots, so much so that Script Assistants have stopped questioning its lack of continuity.

    Definitely nice shooting Tokyo in the rain! I have only shot it with the Fuji X100 series, but next time will use my GR IIIx. Was hoping that you would head over to the east side, as I have spent a lot of time there and it also is nice in the rain (especially Sunshine-Dori, but also Meiji-Dori). Shibuya is another one of my favorite rainy photography locations.

    Lukasz has a great eye. Super inspiring work. If Ricoh could make a Flip up screen for waist-level shooting, I'd finally drop my Fujifilm X-70 and convert.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! A flip screen would be cool but only if the camera kept its slim profile and solid build. The flip screen on my other camera is already a bit bent after heavy use, though it still works fine.

    Great pictures Lukasz! Nice seeing take captures decisions on the spot. One question: what tool do you use to get the camera settings of the GR in post production so nicely in video?

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! The graphic itself is from a motion graphic pack, but I forget what the pack is called. It's just a generic title/text pop up animation, so I have to type up the settings manually for each shot.

      I always shoot in raw and edit in post. There are no perfect settings. Using Adobe Camera Raw, I just tweak the temperature, tint, and camera calibration tab (shadow tint and RGB balances.

    • @EYExplore

    Hello Lukas!
    I have a question about GR3 and manual flash. How to setup the camera to see a real image not affected by exposure settings during composing? If I set for example ISO100, f8, and 1/250s i see nothing on the screen in dark places because of the exposure settings. In my Sony camera there is an option to show a real view no matter how I expose the image (like in optical viewfinder).

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the GR has such a setting, at least I have not seen it. I know my other cameras that this is an option and you can show either the exposure preview or the high-gain view that approximates what your eye sees.

    • @AdrianFilipiak
      @AdrianFilipiak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EYExplore That's a little bit odd that camera with a hot shoe mount doesn't have this option. As long as you use flash as another source of light and expose image -1, -2 EV that's fine. Otherwise it's really hard to compose. Anyway. Dzięki za odpowiedź i pozdrawiam ✌️🇵🇱

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you explain when will you change M mode to AV mode, and when you will decide to increase the ISO from under 400 to 1600.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I never decide to change the ISO because I'm always using Auto ISO. I let the camera decide. However, I do set a maximum ISO of 6400. When using Auto ISO you can also set a minimum shutter speed. For me it's 1/250. So, if i want to shoot slower than 1/250, then I have to switch to M. On M I can choose any shutter speed I want, but usually I'm setting slow shutter speeds at night, like in the situations in the video. Usually I got for between 1/20 and 1/50 in most situations at night. By using a slower/longer shutter speed on M, the ISO will automatically be lower. Hope that helps! :)

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's subjective of course, but for me it's much more fun and comfortable to use a camera. I hate using my phone. Also, I don't have the latest phone. I use a Pixel 3 from a few years ago. It's image quality is basically crap by comparison. I'd rather use my old phone (which totally enough for my needs) and spend 900 bucks on something I love using than 900 bucks on the latest phone that has features I don't care about. But, to each his own! :)
      There is also a video on my channel where I go into this topic in-depth.
