    I put a Dana 60 (Dynatrac) under the rear of my built 1981 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler with a 44 up front. LS3 460HP, built 700R4 through a built Dana 300 transfer case, and full Corsa exhaust. Just a 2" lift. It looked stock. Corvette red with lots of chrome. Looked stock until it was started. On the way to champagne brunch. it would burn the 33" BFG tires through 2nd gear. What a fun hot rod.

    I never looked at a coast pattern.. With heavy Trucks you can move the Pinion in and out with Shimes.. You move the ring gear from side to side .. closer to or away from the Pinion by turning the threaded carrier bearing caps .

    Alot of people complain about the cost of things, but the more things get produced like upgrades, the cheaper it gets and vice versa.
    But lets be realistic. The superduty axle is no longer a relatively cheap option. The more people that use thrm, the more their price is going up. Couple years ago you could get one for $400 from a salvage yard.. Now I'm seeing a bone stock one for $1000-$1200...so price is sort of relative now......2.5 tons are still the best bang for the buck ( a pair can be had for $1500)..id trade my Ford KP 60 and 14 bolt for a pair of good 2.5/ 5 tons

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The benefit of the GM for me is kingpin and simplicity. The Ford Dana is killer, especially the super 60. If you want radius arms 🤷🏼‍♂️😜

    Curious squirting grease twords the bearings? I was taught to put grease on my palm, working the bearing into the grease until oozes out from the wide side to the narrow going all the way around. Aka packing the bearings.

Its got a tbi 454, 4l80e and 14 bolt full floater. \m/ My idea is to build it into a 5 seat prerunner with high travel trophy truck ifs, while retaining rear leafs for towing

    Love my D60 High steer and 14 bolt in my Jimmy...But on 37's I only have a extra 1/2" of clearance under the pumpkin's vs the stock axles on 33's (both are on goodyear MTR's)...shows the extra girth of the tons. Now I really need to regear the Jimmy with the 33's as the 3.07 gearing is well not good hahahaaha. Do I seek the tons(way overkill and poor clearance) or I do have 3/4 ton 14 bolt semi float and Corp 10 with 4.11 gears...just need to add a locker set up or just regear the stock axles....leaning on the 3/4 set up but that could be used in another build I'm planning this winter......

    Wait... was that a K5 blazer??? I have one at my ranch. Gift from my father when o was 18. It was like $500 at an auction. It's been sitting in the the goat barn, as a toy for the goats to climb in and out.
    Surprising its not rusted at all, even the roof is still good. I've never given it thought, and after years it's just been a wall flower in the background.
    DOES IT REALLY HAVE A DANA 60???? 😅
