The new Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal irons utilize a new Nickel Chromoly material, which is 35% stronger than the Chromoly in previous Mizuno JPX Hot Metal irons. So, how do the JPX 923 Hot Metal irons compare to the previous model, the JPX 921 Hot Metal irons?
In this video, Chris Voshall from Mizuno joins 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and Thomas Campbell to test and compare the JPX 923 Hot Metal and JPX 921 Hot Metal irons on Trackman.

Was on the fence with the 921 or 923 HM. Ultimately went with the 923 because they just felt better to me IMO. The weight the shaft it just felt right. Played my first round with them yesterday and I was blown away on how this club performed. The feel alone is what had me sold. I’m coming from Taylormade RSI 1 so that was a big step up in the feel department for me. Also the ball flight is really nice on these. Was worried about the stronger lofts but they fly high and still have some spin to them. Even on my mishits I didn’t lose much distance at all. Love the look of the clubs and at address. Just a clean looking club. And the feel of a Mizuno I finally experienced that first hand even in the HM set. Absolutely love how these irons feel. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Just got my left handed Jpx 923 hot metal pros. Love them. Perfect irons for the lower mid handicap. You can see the forgiveness but they aren’t chunky irons.

@@denny2427 probably just depends on your visual preference and whether you want more ability to work the ball. The hmp has less offset so theoretically should be easier to hit fades or draws.

@@denny2427 I looked at the 921 hot metal standard irons on the weekend. If the 923 looks similar, I would personally go with this more game improvement iron. The offset looked lower in the short irons to moderate and very reasonable also with the standard hot metal.

Not sure about the 923, but I recently changed from Taylormade M4 to the 921s, wow, what a difference, my best round in the M4s was 85, I just came back from DR where I took the 921s, I played all three courses at Casa De Campo (links, Teeth of the Dog, and Dye Four), my scores was amazing, Links I shot a 86 first round playing with these clubs, Teeth I shot an 81, and figured that was my best, I was a little tired and was not sure I was up to playing 3 days in row, but figured to give it a go, boy, am I glad I did, I shot a 77 on Dye Four with the 921, I hit every par 3, a few birdies, to be honest my Stealth driver was on too, 260 avg off the tee, one even 280 yrds. But the irons gave me more distance and confidence. Looking forward to the 2023 golf season.

Based on this I think the differences with 921 vs 923 are pretty marginal and about what I would expect. I’ve had 921 HMP’s in my bag for a couple of years and absolutely love them. I don’t think the 923’s are enough of a game changer to justify upgrading from 921’s, but if I were coming at this with an older set of irons, I would definitely give the 923’s a look.

Great review. When you're comparing these hot players irons, I'd really love there to be a 4 iron v 4 iron in the review as well. Most 4 irons like this are around 19° these days and so are being bought as driving irons off the tee.

These new 923's HM are pointless. What in the world was Mizuno thinking?? There is virtually no real world difference, certainly not enough to justify "upgrading" to them if you already own 921's HM. I own the 921's (and the MP 225's as well ftr) and have gamed the 923's and there is zero difference between them other than a slightly stronger loft for 923 HM. Big deal. If you want stronger lofts, bend your 921 HM a half a degree.
