  • In today's video, we dive into a critical topic - the difference between a genuine life-saving tourniquet and a counterfeit one that could cost lives. Join us as we uncover the shocking truth about counterfeit tourniquets and test their effectiveness.
In this eye-opening video, we share the story of a paramedic's encounter with a counterfeit tourniquet that almost led to a tragic outcome. Counterfeit tourniquets, often sourced from unreliable vendors, pose a significant risk to your safety. We'll take you through the key differences between genuine and fake tourniquets, including markings and materials.
We conduct a hands-on test, using both counterfeit and authentic tourniquets, to assess their ability to control bleeding effectively. The results may surprise you!
    💡 Key Takeaways:
    - Always purchase tourniquets from reputable sources like Mount M Medical or North American Rescue to ensure authenticity.
    - Look for specific markings and identifiers to spot counterfeit tourniquets.
    - While some counterfeit tourniquets may work in a pinch, they should never be your first choice when it comes to your safety.
Watch this video to learn how to distinguish between genuine and fake tourniquets and make an informed decision about your emergency preparedness.

I am certified Rescue Task Force here in N.H. I carry both the CAT Gen 7 from NAR and SOF-T in my response vest. Would never trust a knock off of any emergency medical/bleeding equipment. Same goes for my EDC great vid keep up the good work.

Appreciate your honest testing. I agree that I would really think long and hard about trusting my life to a chi-com tourniquet. Having a "cheapy" as a training aid (if it is similar enough) is maybe not a bad idea though. I would be likely to train more often with a low-cost "dummy" tourniquet.

Nice honest testing. Totally agree, I'd rather have the robust legitimate one than a knock off made with cheaper materials and lower quality stitching. But in a pinch, anything is better than nothing. Thank you for ensuring only the best are sent with your kits. Made a customer out of me. The kits you sent me are excellent! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I bought generic blue ones as trainers. They are fine for that purpose. I have 2 trainer kits that include a tourniquet, a Z-fold bandage, Israeli bandage, and disposable gloves. On a side note, we have all heard of counterfeit tourniquets failing. Any failure rate for a lifesaving device is unacceptable, but the counterfeit tourniquets that work, work fine. It would seem to me, that the failure rate could be eliminated at the factory by better QC. Personally, I would like to stick to TCCC tourniquets, but there are probably some good quality tourniquets out there that haven't been approved by TCCC yet. A large part of the issue is the counterfeiting. Paying for what you expect to be a CAT tourniquet when it's not. I would have less of an issue if you are buying an off brand tourniquet (not TCCC approved) and it's NOT claiming to be an actual CAT tourniquet. Just adjust your expectations if the failure rate of the non-approved tourniquet is above zero.

I’ve got lots of genuine NAR CATs (including trainers, which are identical except for the blue color instead of black or orange), but I’ve also got a few Recon ones as spares in my vehicles that would be my go-to backups after the CATs but before improvised TQs, including if I needed a second TQ proximally adjacent to the first one. Not my first choice, but not my last either… Also, NAR does offer a discount to first responders LE, and even teachers, just FYI.

If you didn't have an official, the fake is better than a belt, but a belt is better than nothing. BTW, still creeped out about the fingers moving during the application...

Definitely have some real CATs &/or SOF Ts, and if you want, have some of these as back ups, in the event you need a bunch. That being said, before putting them into use as a back up, test them to make sure they actually work. Like others said, they make cheap training aids as well. Even if you get ones that work, your primary or EDC TQs should be CAT, SOF T W, SAM, or one of the odd TQs that are TCCC approved.
I'm sure someone will be mad that I said this, but hey, money isn't unlimited, and sometimes your back ups are going to be things like this, or (for back up chest seals if you run out in a MCI) duct tape an wrappers, or even Tegaderm. Just don't make your plan to be improvised tools as your primary. Too many people do this, and it's a bad plan.

The supposed North American Rescue Individual Patrol Officer IPOK listed on your website has a fake TQ. I have also seen the same listing on Amazon.

No it doesn't. We purchase those directly from North American Rescue. They assemble it themselves and ship it direct to us.

Ask your friend what the temperature was when he broke it. If it was extremely cold that was probably what broke it but still I wouldn't trust my life to a knock off either

There are different versions of clones, better and horrible. But if there was a cheap copy in the ambulance, the case is won in court.

The Chinese see no advantage making things that will save American lives. Their Israeli battle dressings suck too and are likely to cause an infection. But they do make for good training aids.
