Best comment I read about this topic so far: "I was always lucky enough to have a colleague with the stuff I needed on his belt, so please keep doing it!" It's a pain, that many people judge their colleagues by the amount of stuff on their belts. For me it has always been quite simple: if it's annoying in the pockets, it goes on the belt. And to be honest it's not such a big deal on the station I work at, since many of the more senior colleagues have quite a lot of equipment on their belts. From my experience it's often about having a reason to carry it in the first place. Afterwards there's hardly any difference between a few things on the belt and stuffed pockets. It's actually a bit more handy to have it on the belt since our pockets don't have quite much internal structure.

Looking at what LEOs, soldiers, construction workers carry, its all a version of soldiering. Uniform, LBE, PPE. The ones making fun of a bat-belt-wearing medic are usually the ones who are just too cool to carry anything with them. On scenes, they wanna borrow stuff from the guy who isn't just too cool. I retired from a busy service where it wasn't practical to strip down to go to sleep. So I had a belt with radio and a few other things, pull-on boots (steel toe, waterproof and EH rated). I could usually beat younger guys to the rig. The thing that kills us most frequently at work is vehicular crashes. We should be using seat belts in the back, and wearing a helmet. We need multi-purpose PPE. Like a helmet that provides reasonable crash and ballistic protection, but doesn't look like a combat helmet. FR rated uniforms with high visibility features. Ballistic vests that look more like a traffic vest. If we pack heat at work, and I do, it should be concealed. As far as EDC, every medic should have a light source, cutting tool, comms, one set of PPE (gloves, mask) and a quick reference source be it cards behind your ID badge, a pocket guide, etc. And a goddamn pen and something to write on! I work at a slower, kinder and gentler semi-rural service now, across a bay from an island city with a large level one teaching hospital. Some of my crews are just too cool to carry stuff with them. Just as some constructive criticism (and it goes for not just you but a LOT of other TH-camrs), try not to repeat yourself about what the video is about. Tell it once...move on. Most of the time the title says what the video is about so you probably don't even need to mention it just go "Let's get straight into it...". In the first 45 secs you've basically said 3 times that "this video is about my updated edc/every day carry". The rest of the video was fine. Really informative, good pace, no heavy editing. Sounds like you have an interesting job! Be safe out there!
I am looking at doing more Stop the Bleed classes in the NOCO area and Skinny Medic and I have talked about putting on a joint class in the Denver area. Go harass him and tell him to get his ass to Denver!
I would suggest your department adding a uniform that makes you NOT look like Law Enforcement. I am aware that you have been through a TEMS course and have had some very limited exposure to LE tactics; but a seasoned cop nor a Spec Tac Operator does that make you. Stay safe my friend!
EMS uniforms are routinely navy blue in the US🤷🏻♂️. It could potentially lead to an issue but ultimately someone looking to do harm to a uniform isn't going to reconsider because you are a paramedic. While I am not a "Spec Tac Operator" I do have 4+ years as a certified law enforcement officer along with 2 years as an armed SWAT entry team member. I have taken several TEMS classes along with SWAT school and CQB specific classes.
@@PrepMedic My point still stands brother. Just be careful. Certifications and practice don't replace experience. BUT Always good for the team to have an asset not afraid to help and who knows enough of what is going on to not get in the way. As far as the uni... That is exactly what I am talking about. That kind of individual is statistically going to be looking for an LE uniform. Your uniform is nearly identical under quick glance, minus a visible side arm. It's a catch 22 though. If I had my way and had all of you EMSers wrapped in prophylactic green, the flip side of that is that you stand out to someone looking to do harm. Total catch 22 I get it. My post came across as a beat down, but it wasn't entirely meant so. Stay Safe.
Have you ever gotten your pants tapered at the tailors. I have the 511 EMS pants too but they are super baggy. The first time I wore them my daughter asked me if we were going sledding because she thought I had snow pants on. Everything about the pants are great I just wish they were just a little less like MC Hammer pants.
Don't American EMS providers supply everything to their staff? All we really buy ourselves is a better stethoscope and maybe a nicer torch. Everything else is supplied.

Check out the klikbelt 2-ply tactical. I used one while in the army and it was quite handy
I work in fire/ems and I would never lay a finger on the bottom of my boots without gloves #sickysicky
I use to be an EMT/ Firefighter. wow I kinda miss it now
Excellent and very interesting video mate! Good onya
Are you near colorado springs? It'd be awesome to do a class with you like skinny medic does
Seconding this
Im in dougco so everywhere is equally as inconvenient for me to get to so I'd be happy to go wherever for a class/meet
I am looking at doing more Stop the Bleed classes in the NOCO area and Skinny Medic and I have talked about putting on a joint class in the Denver area. Go harass him and tell him to get his ass to Denver!
@@PrepMedic Can I pay for a class with some of my moms famous casserole?
@@PrepMedic fuck I'd be happy to get a stop the bleed class with you in a mcdonalds playland
The Taclight EMS pants are nice, but once 5.11 came out with the Stryke EMS pants I am never going back to the Taclight.
Need an undated one, not a flight medic one. Though you said you do one day air, one day ground
Colorado Dep here welcome to the Rockies. I had no idea you moved
Are you no longer doing SWAT stuff in Colorado? And is there maybe a plan for that in the future?
I am working towards some stuff but it all takes time. Right now I am on the All Hazards Response Team for disaster response and SAR right now
Updated videos of new rigs, jump bags, drug boxes, etc
When I can I totally will.
Haix boots FTW!
So glad I found your channel! I start my EMT class tomorrow.
Stay Safe.
when you smile you kinda look like Jimmy Darmody in my opinion
Get “smoked” by a car, love your enthusiasm keep it up great video
I use hemostats for clamping off arterial bleeders
Have you ever gotten your pants tapered at the tailors. I have the 511 EMS pants too but they are super baggy. The first time I wore them my daughter asked me if we were going sledding because she thought I had snow pants on. Everything about the pants are great I just wish they were just a little less like MC Hammer pants.
Yes! Thx for making the vid
Polecat Fan air
Air fry stove.com
Take a look at the Victorinox rescue tool, I'd really like to get your opinion on it
I will take a look at it.
HAIX from Germany 🤙🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Try leatherman wave + for your knife it is very good
“Unknown driver, unknown driver, unknown driver”
😳 I hear that voice when I go to sleep at night.
I wouldn't call you a princess but, I get what you're saying. Thanks for the video. Awesome EDC.
Awesome video! Subed!!
Great presentation.
I need a job in Colorado! We can’t afford this sweet gear here!
Come on out! We have openings.
EMS equipment and accessories are so expensive. Wow
Don't American EMS providers supply everything to their staff? All we really buy ourselves is a better stethoscope and maybe a nicer torch. Everything else is supplied.
Good vid buddy nice gear
Gruss😀
Have you done a comparison between the dark angel medical and warrior poet society ankle trauma kits?
Comment about Haix boots, Haix sponsor the British Army and we’re issued Haix boots upon joining, hence the heroes wear Haix 🤙🏻
Awesome vid! Only question is, isn't that a gel pen you have with the RiteInRain notepad at 9:22? I thought they didn't work.
Connor Lee works fine for me 🤷♂️
PrepMedic Never tried it before! Thanks for the reply and the info. :)
You should try Delta combat boots
Nothing overkill if it safe you right
PrepMedic, do you ever use the RiteInTheRain EMS books? Are you familiar with them, if so, what is your opinion?
Also, at 9:18 I saw you're using the gel pen, do you find that still works for RITR books? I haven't tried it yet.
Thanks for the great videos, and suggestions. Keep it up!
I’m joining my Ambulance corps, and I am wondering what is a good knife to carry?
Do first responders have their uniforms and , pens , mugs made at a special place that’s just for them?
Спасибо за отличные видео!
Solid question, who did your custom fit earpiece? I’m local to CO and my earpiece gets stupid irritable after about 2 hours of use
So did you continue to work as a sheriff for your local Department or are you only doing the paramedic field now?
I wish my agency let us wear more professional shirts like that. We just get t shirts or polos
We have nice polos with a embroidered badge that look great and aren’t as heavy and awkward as the button down class Bs
I LOVE our polos and they look sharp. I like them even better than the class B shirts a lot of other places wear and think we look a lot nicer.
I work in Texas and our old class Bs were torture in the summer. I’m grateful for regular shirts when it’s hot.
