As a long time fan of C&C since Westwood, I'm glad that all of this is available on Steam yet livid at the fact that it needs community support. It is like showing up to McDonalds for a cheeseburger but you only get the bare ingredients and the wheat must be made into flour before baking into the bread for the bun.
I wouldn't that upset about it. Look at what they did with the Remaster of batlefront. A real mess. Where with CnC, you install and get the Community patch and it works like a charm
Same, ESPECIALLY since they coupdve easily told all of the modders ahead of time so they couldve fixed their mods before the steam launch. Like all the servers are run by fans, dont you want multiplayer to work on them so more people see a reason to by the games?!
@@a.trance6997 It depends. For me the bundle was cheaper, because I owned all of the games that were already on Steam. My price for the remainder of the bundle was $5.18, buying the games individually would have been a lot more than that. Of course that further depends on what you want, I wanted all the games so of course the bundle makes sense. If you only want 1 or 2 games then the bundle isn't cheaper (better hope you never change your mind and want more games later though). Everyone will have to figure out what they want and the cheapest way to get it themselves.
For Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge; if you use the cncnet client, turn on the beta in the settings (Look in options under the updater tab). That will allow you to play the campaigns through it.
While, I realize it's not perfect, I'm quite happy with this. If it gets C&C in the eyes of more people and lets EA know people are interested in this franchise still that will be great. This is one of the few times I'm happy to speak with my wallet, so I bought it again on steam even though I already have it.
when you said every command and conquer games, i instantly hit the steam store to check if it included c&c generals/zero hour, and it did. FANTASTIC, they have it included. its one of my favourite c&c when i was a kid.
What will really make the steam release amazing is if they add steam workshop support so all the mods and community patches can be added into one easily accessible and useable place.
Yeah, I was about to comment something like that. If the games worked out of the box and had workshop, I'd get them. at least the price is reasonable, but I don't see much of a reason to get it. I own two physical copies of the First Decade and all the newer ones other than Twilight on steam btw. (+ physical cnc3, KW, ra3, ra3 exp) BTW everybodys meming on Bethesda re-releasing Skyrim a milion times, when CnC games got rereleased more times, usually even with no changes.

@@VitZ9 correct me if I missed anything: skyrim has 3: legendary(orig release), special, aniversary legendary to special brought with it significant upgrades to the engine. cnc1 has at least these, as far as I know: original, first decade, tuc all of these are literally the same game.
I just want to be able to play RA2:YR and Generals:ZH online without using 3rd party servers for 2 reasons. First, I have a family member who I grew up playing the games with but isn't too keen on 3rd party private server hassle. Two, the online portion of the games are unintentionally gate kept because most people are not willing to jump through the hurdles making it so usually only the most hardcore (skilled) players are online ready to tear you apart.
C&C 3 + Kanes Wrath and Red Alert 3 + Uprising all crashed/hung upon changing resolution on first launch, but worked after the second launch. Thank the lord for 30fps Low Frame Compensation technology on my monitor though, playing Kane's Wrath with Gsync and no input lag feels amazing. I really hope we get more C&C Remasters, that first one was a day 1 buy and the only EA game I've bought in over a decade. We need these games to run at 120fps nowadays and I only hope to see EA continue C&C support for passionate remasters.
8:24 I suppose it's keeping up with tradition. Fresh, final-build screenshots would be nice for consistency, but to be fair I have some physical copies of the original 2000 big box retail release of Red Alert 2, and they have screenshots from non-final builds on them, too. So in a way I'm glad the Ultimate Collection is authentic to the series in that regard.
I have to disagree. It's authentic to a few very niche people, to everyone else it's just false advertising. Only screenshots from the final game should appear on the store page. It's all digital, there's no excuse. The reason you saw non-final builds on game boxes back then was box design was finalized and sent off for printing before the game was done. That's not a limitation anymore.
Command and and Conquer has one of the strangest legacies of community vs publisher support. Many of the games have been patched and updated by the community to work on newer hardware, even providing multiplayer support. And yet, EA kinda refuses to let the community actually do what they want with this. Then they come out with the TibDawn and RA remastered collection, and people wonder if EA is going to start caring again. And then they stop. Again. The one thing that has never failed every few years is yet another re-release of a C&C bundle (a very Bethesda thing to do) on a different platform or format, except with C&C, EA can’t be bothered to even put in the developer support to make it work right out of the box. They will do the thing that will earn them a few extra bucks from the IP without having to put in any work, but can’t be bothered to support their own releases of these games. EA, at this point, just make it all freeware or give us releases that properly support community modding. It’s not that hard *or* expensive. No minute amount of profit off of a rerelease could net you enough money to outweigh the vast kudos you would get by just opening these games up to people.
Hate to break it to you but this kind of wishy-washy support is super common for old games, and not at all exclusive to EA. Don't get me wrong, it's garbage and they should not be selling broken games, but this isn't exclusive to C&C .
They did the absolute bare minimum to release the games again in an almost-untouched-but-not-quite state that broke some mod support (again) but still ultimately require community tools to either work properly in any state, or for multiplayer specifically, or somehow changed just enough to make them incompatible with previous releases, somehow. No real additional efforts going on to improve quality of life, it's just the community around each game continuing to have to make-do and construct their own tools to keep things playable. The additional barriers-to-entry of getting multiplayer working for them, as admirable as the various community solutions are, doesn't really help for bringing in more longterm players imo.
I still have have the First Decade disk, but for all these years I never got any CnC game from Origin. This is the first time I learned that the early games are Freeware. So thats info Ill use in the future. But a definite consequence of me never interacting with groups/fandoms online. I'm so happy that the collection is on steam. I literally grew up playing CnC and I'll happily have another copy of these games. I'll play them the same way I always did; alone and in my own head. Scratches an itch like no other games do. Thank you for delivering this news to me. ❤
Finally they did something (almost) right. Almost, because if they would have allowed this earlier, there is possibility that there would have been higher player counts.
Is anyone else having Issues with revora? It just keeps saying "unable to launch red alert 3" and it's since an EA update which seems to pair with the timing of this. I've been looking around on reddit, but have found anything that solves the issue and isn't 5 years old advice.
One more thing, I'd love to see an "ultimate" GOG release of Red Alert 2, complete with up to 8K & 4:3/16:10/16:9/21:9 aspect ratio's, built-in super scaling, which increases internal rendering resolution (Red Alert 2 looks immaculate @ 8 times its max native resolution), upgraded audio, either MIDI 2.0 or PCM 32-Bit 384Khz, AI remastered cutscenes with pixel repetition to get them as close to clean HD video as possible, scanlines will also increase video fidelity perception, and lastly, perhaps a new challenge mode, akin to the awsome C&C General challenge mode, and a half dozen+ new army units for each army faction.
I was intrigued by this series since the remastered collection came out And when got it after year or 2 i finally played it and couldn't stop (despite sucking at it lmao). Then i was considering getting ultimate collection on origin/ea app... It was tempting as heck buuuut i fought back the urge in hope to see RA2 and the other games be available on steam. Which actually happened recently. Thank god i haven't wasted my money on ea app XD
As someone who doesn't really use the EA App, I am quite glad that this is now available on Steam. I agree with a lot of your points about the fact that you need 3rd party fixes to get the games running being a hassle, but I am overall really had since I lost most/never had many of these games. So I am very happy.
Wait a little bit, the Bundle isn't on sale... there is only the bundle rebate but the bundle itself might get a discount on top with the next steam sales. Damn, C&C Generals 2 looks still so good, even so many years after they canceled it. Command and Conquer with Frostbyte destruction... i will never forgive EA for shattering my dreams.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm You might be right? Looking at the page, now it's off the Steam "weekend deal" section, Steam just lists the bundled discount compared to the price of the games themselves. Of course, you can't actually buy the games themselves through the regular store, so that "full price" is fake. So it was never on sale, even though it was listed as a "weekend deal" and the $20 price is not real. I guess that's good, it means the barrier to entry for any C&C game remains at $10, and may even be discounted in future sales. I guess we'll see if anything changes after March 21.
There actually are a few behind the scenes changes done to get the games working on modern OS without compatibility issues. But that's about it. They changed enough to get the games to launch, but not enough to work flawlessly without community fixes. At least they did something I guess? 🤷♂️

Just bought this yesterday!! I have the remastered already, my first rts ever, (along with warcraft 2) love rts and old school shooters like doom duke nukem etc, kid free weekend this week so beer steak & retro gaming for me...
So, I was able to use the CD-Keys of Red Alert 3 and Uprising from the Ultimate Collection bought on EA Origin storefront, to activate both games in my Steam Library. I haven't tried this for Generals and Zero Hour, though.

Got jagged text and graphics in red alert 2 on steam? Press shift+F11 when in main menu in game and change graphics filter from point to bilinier - this will make it look normal
I also don't expect RA2 TibSun Remasters. EA send a clear message to the community by making yet another no effort mobile game instead of actually remastering the next 2 big games of the franchise. This TUC release on Steam seems more like another cheap way to keep real fans somewhat happy?? But without putting much effort and money into it either. They still include extremely broken versions of these two games that will continue having permanent crashes and compatibillity issues going into the future. I'm glad that CNCnet exists. But a real modernized no compatibillity issue having remaster would have been nice.
The funniest thing is even if you buy CnC 4, you can't play it. It can be played only while connected to server, but the servers are closed for like 10 years.
The fun part for me were: 1)the package being blocked in my country(well, apparently I can somehow control regime in Belarus despite not being immune to baton and rubber bullets); 2)C&C4 being unplayable because it needs to be logged in into some account system on servers that doesn't exist for a decade now. Hell yeah, that game will be remembered as vaporware at best! Like it deserved. And EA is fully aware of the fact that they're adding a dead product just to inflate the pack value.
C&C 4 servers are up. Just played a game, there was about 10 other people online. TT servers didn't go down when all the other GameSpy servers went down. They stayed up for a while, and now you can still play, but it's a dice roll. When you launch the game you're prompted to login and when you enter your details there's maybe a 10% chance it works. But if you keep trying to log in it should eventually work, for me it was maybe 6th attempt to log in that worked.
@@Vladax94 I didn't buy it, there is no option on account and I don't want to create another one just for it because at that point I might as well create EGS one too. The other people were talking about the listed issues with C&C4 and as I was following the news, that's my understanding of the situation. But apparently I was wrong and there's 10% chance that that corpse can still be revived.
I know my build isn't the same as every one else's, but I appreciate that I am able to launch all the steam versions without modding it. 12 plus years of modding and it's good to see them start up flawlessly. Oh course this is just my luck.
I am very happy about this. Glad that it's on steam and I don't have to bother with EA app anymore. Also happy that they just put back like the original. Yes, we need community patch to play online but better than if they started to patch a break stuff.
Its weird. I started olaying C&C lately. Got my friends playing C&C3 which I advocated for the Ultimate Collection through EA. It's free with Gamepass Ultimate and was the cheapest way to get all the games at it's $18 price point. Then a few weeks later steam drops the price of C&C 3 and RA 3 and their DLCs to $2, and then a few days later they release the Ultimate Collection to steam.
@OneSybert Well, I got my copy of TUC at Walmart over a decade ago, and my friends got their copies a few weeks to a month ago. So it's probably too late for a refund. That said, I've only got 4 copies of RA 1. How's the modding scene on steam compared to EA?
This is good news overall. My biggest interest is being able to use Steam's Proton for it. I have overall moved on from Windows to Linux. I wonder if this is I response to be Star Wars Battlefront Collection that has just been released.
OpenRA has a native lunix version btw. Proton mostly is a port of wine that supports steam runtime. Most of compatibility fixes are pushed into mainline wine, and if that is not enough, Lutris team does a great job at prowiding both a launcher with many features to simplify running and installing games through wine and their own build of wine with some additional optimisations. I use proton because of convenience of not having a separate launcher; most games I tested run fine without proton as well
@@DiscovererAlphaAgree. It is possible to run Command Post for CnC3 related stuff in Wine just fine at least. But GenTool and others are quite a pain.
I'm still waiting for a Tib Sun/Red Alert 2 remaster. The first remaster did very well, so it makes no sense that they wouldn't continue with another one. I'd even take one for generals. Maybe one day....
wtf was even the point of getting the collection on steam if it didn't actually get updates to make everything run today? All they had to do was collect the best community patches and adopt them as regular patches for everything to work out of the box and not have to google everything. My cat can do that, but she'd lack the license to do so and the public reach to get everyone on board. This is not even repackaged, just a scam.
I honestly don't know what to think about it. Part of me wants to buy ultimate collection on Steam, but another side wants me to wait, see, and believe we'll receive more remasters. First two were done exactly how remasters should work. With great care and appreciation of fans. I want more of that please instead of having broken titles which need patching, stupid!
I still have the boxed version of many of these titles still in my garage. I did pick these up while on sale as I didn’t own any of these on Steam. I used to play Generals online with my friends for months back in the day. Great times. Still, I think TA is a better RTS than any CnC title.
I already have most of these individually on Steam and whatever launcher EA has. Definitely more convenient to deal with Steam on Linux, but I already jumped through some hoops to get RA2 working with CnCNet. Might still pick it up for easier TibSun and Renegade, but idk.
got it myself yesterday. the one on origin dont runs well on my pc. tiberium sun red alert 2 and generels werent working. on steam they all run fine. would love to see Emperor playable again.
I'm very mixed about all this. On one hand I'm very very happy to be able to have these games on a digital platform where I'm not constantly worried about being banned for no reason. There's so many Origin/EA App horror stories out there. On the other, they definitely should have done more work to get every one of these games functional "out of the box," at least the single player campaigns. I don't expect them to get new official servers running for multiplayer or to go to the same lengths as the community improvements for the campaigns - something like "Zero Hour works but is locked at 4:3" is fine if Zero Hour was originally locked at 4:3 (didn't play it when it was new, I don't know). "Renegade launched but I couldn't leave the menu" is not fine, obviously. I love Command & Conquer, I'm glad to see these games get new attention, and to be free from the EA App. But the quality of these releases sucks. If it was any other franchise I'd be livid at the state of this release. If the discounted price after account for games I already had wasn't just $5 I don't know if I'd be able to be so neutral about this. I've been angrier about and refused to buy other games for less (although they also cost more, too). Look EA just give us Remastered Collection 2.
I am still hopeful it all points towards them maybe trying to make a new C&C game at some point. Not hugely hopeful it will happen but with the success of the C&C / RA1 remasters there is always that small chance.
One of the advantages of the individual games, is that you can get it in languages other than english, I know I can patch C&C3 and RA3 to my language, but would be nice to play previous games also in my language, playing C&C Generals in my language automatically sets me to my childhood Edit: Srr, my english listening is not perfect, did you say that EA App people can't play online with Steam people?
Yeah adding languages is definitely great, but just goes on the list of things that EA should have done 12 years ago. That's been fixed now, there was a bug where people couldn't match, but that's no longer the case.

*If* they do another remaster I assume they'll do TS and RA2, but I am extremely skeptical that another remaster will actually happen. There's definitely a will from people who worked on the TD/RA remaster, but I'm not sure if it's a project that will be greenlit by EA.

I gave my friend money to buy this bundle, and we spent 3 hours trying to get multiplayer to work to no avail. Amazing waste of time and money. Quite a shame, too. we just went and played Starcraft remastered since we couldn't get this to work.
Honestly, until we actually get something more than re-re-releases of old products, I can't see this as anything more than EA trying to figure out what IPs it still has that's worth monetizing. They tried reviving command and conquer years back, first trying to sell us the random mobile game, before eventually releasing remastered version of the first two games. Then they did nothing with the franchise, until now when they've released the "please buy it again edition." I don't see a reason to care about the franchise until an actual new product comes out. Until then, there's plenty of other things to spend money on.
Nice video, I fully agree. It's good that they've brought the games to steam, but it sounds like it's done with minimal effort. If the games would have been mordenized a bit, I wouldn't mind buying them again. But right now, there isn't really a point.
getting a 3rd party tool is basically standard for C&C games nowadays so it doesn't bother me much, as a 1-1 port to modern tech with minimal effort to make it work is what i expected from EA. And I'd much prefer having all the games and in one spot and spending an hour fixing them all than having them scattered around, especially since i only had to spend $8 for all of it

I'd love to replay some of these games but the hotkey customisation is a dealbreaker for me. For instance red alert 3, I want to drag scroll with middle mouse button not rotate the camera. I want to issue move commands with right click but attack move with left click (one or the other for both is only available option), I want to be able to que commands with shift without removing the ability to add to selection with shift as well (it treats it as if there'd be some kind of conflict). The other annoying unrebindable F keys I could just about deal with but the aforementioned just makes the games unplayable for me due to muscle memory (and my unwillingness to screw up my muscle memory for other RTS games).
Watched your casts for a while now, would you ever consider doing some casts for RA2 mental omega? Games are quite fast paced so I think they’d be good to watch
With community tools all games should have wide screen options. Some of the games you can get it to run in widescreen even without a tool, just by editing the games .ini file in notepad. CCG/ZH have Gentool which I think is working now with GenPatcher, check the guide linked in the description for more info.
But does the Steam version still require EA app in order to play these games? Cuz just recently I bought Titanfall 2 on Steam just to refund it because it forced me to install EA app anyway, so what's the point?
I own a lot of the physical copies thanks to a big box omnibus set I bought after picking up Firestorm at a garage sale because the name sounded cool. Only played the OG C&C through the N64 though. Not going to buy the omnibus series as I already own everything I need to, and physical copies are the best. Between the disks, external hard drives, and old usb sticks I have with the games downloaded they arent going away if one day EA/Steam decided they dont want me to "own" the digital versions anymore.

No we dont 60 fps are all we need for games like this. 120 fps on games like this litterly makes 0 difference.
Now we are just waiting for the Mod Makers to get set up for steam compatability!

Fresh, final-build screenshots would be nice for consistency, but to be fair I have some physical copies of the original 2000 big box retail release of Red Alert 2, and they have screenshots from non-final builds on them, too. So in a way I'm glad the Ultimate Collection is authentic to the series in that regard.
Makes sense when you have the physical production of a game box, but I don't think the Steam page should consist only of pre-release screenshots.
I have to disagree. It's authentic to a few very niche people, to everyone else it's just false advertising. Only screenshots from the final game should appear on the store page. It's all digital, there's no excuse. The reason you saw non-final builds on game boxes back then was box design was finalized and sent off for printing before the game was done. That's not a limitation anymore.
Command and and Conquer has one of the strangest legacies of community vs publisher support. Many of the games have been patched and updated by the community to work on newer hardware, even providing multiplayer support. And yet, EA kinda refuses to let the community actually do what they want with this. Then they come out with the TibDawn and RA remastered collection, and people wonder if EA is going to start caring again. And then they stop. Again. The one thing that has never failed every few years is yet another re-release of a C&C bundle (a very Bethesda thing to do) on a different platform or format, except with C&C, EA can’t be bothered to even put in the developer support to make it work right out of the box. They will do the thing that will earn them a few extra bucks from the IP without having to put in any work, but can’t be bothered to support their own releases of these games.
EA, at this point, just make it all freeware or give us releases that properly support community modding. It’s not that hard *or* expensive. No minute amount of profit off of a rerelease could net you enough money to outweigh the vast kudos you would get by just opening these games up to people.
Hate to break it to you but this kind of wishy-washy support is super common for old games, and not at all exclusive to EA.
Don't get me wrong, it's garbage and they should not be selling broken games, but this isn't exclusive to C&C .
@@ShaCaro I understand that (I’ve seen it). However, it is such a clear opportunity for them to do more than a quick cash grab if they cared.
They did the absolute bare minimum to release the games again in an almost-untouched-but-not-quite state that broke some mod support (again) but still ultimately require community tools to either work properly in any state, or for multiplayer specifically, or somehow changed just enough to make them incompatible with previous releases, somehow. No real additional efforts going on to improve quality of life, it's just the community around each game continuing to have to make-do and construct their own tools to keep things playable. The additional barriers-to-entry of getting multiplayer working for them, as admirable as the various community solutions are, doesn't really help for bringing in more longterm players imo.

I still have have the First Decade disk, but for all these years I never got any CnC game from Origin.
This is the first time I learned that the early games are Freeware. So thats info Ill use in the future. But a definite consequence of me never interacting with groups/fandoms online.
I'm so happy that the collection is on steam. I literally grew up playing CnC and I'll happily have another copy of these games. I'll play them the same way I always did; alone and in my own head.

Is anyone else having Issues with revora? It just keeps saying "unable to launch red alert 3" and it's since an EA update which seems to pair with the timing of this. I've been looking around on reddit, but have found anything that solves the issue and isn't 5 years old advice.

As someone who doesn't really use the EA App, I am quite glad that this is now available on Steam. I agree with a lot of your points about the fact that you need 3rd party fixes to get the games running being a hassle, but I am overall really had since I lost most/never had many of these games. So I am very happy.
Wait a little bit, the Bundle isn't on sale... there is only the bundle rebate but the bundle itself might get a discount on top with the next steam sales.

Looking at the page, now it's off the Steam "weekend deal" section, Steam just lists the bundled discount compared to the price of the games themselves. Of course, you can't actually buy the games themselves through the regular store, so that "full price" is fake.
So it was never on sale, even though it was listed as a "weekend deal" and the $20 price is not real. I guess that's good, it means the barrier to entry for any C&C game remains at $10, and may even be discounted in future sales.
I guess we'll see if anything changes after March 21.

There actually are a few behind the scenes changes done to get the games working on modern OS without compatibility issues.
But that's about it. They changed enough to get the games to launch, but not enough to work flawlessly without community fixes.

Got jagged text and graphics in red alert 2 on steam? Press shift+F11 when in main menu in game and change graphics filter from point to bilinier - this will make it look normal
I also don't expect RA2 TibSun Remasters. EA send a clear message to the community by making yet another no effort mobile game instead of actually remastering the next 2 big games of the franchise. This TUC release on Steam seems more like another cheap way to keep real fans somewhat happy?? But without putting much effort and money into it either. They still include extremely broken versions of these two games that will continue having permanent crashes and compatibillity issues going into the future. I'm glad that CNCnet exists. But a real modernized no compatibillity issue having remaster would have been nice.
The funniest thing is even if you buy CnC 4, you can't play it. It can be played only while connected to server, but the servers are closed for like 10 years.

The fun part for me were:
1)the package being blocked in my country(well, apparently I can somehow control regime in Belarus despite not being immune to baton and rubber bullets);
2)C&C4 being unplayable because it needs to be logged in into some account system on servers that doesn't exist for a decade now. Hell yeah, that game will be remembered as vaporware at best! Like it deserved. And EA is fully aware of the fact that they're adding a dead product just to inflate the pack value.

C&C 4 servers are up. Just played a game, there was about 10 other people online.
TT servers didn't go down when all the other GameSpy servers went down. They stayed up for a while, and now you can still play, but it's a dice roll. When you launch the game you're prompted to login and when you enter your details there's maybe a 10% chance it works. But if you keep trying to log in it should eventually work, for me it was maybe 6th attempt to log in that worked.

The other people were talking about the listed issues with C&C4 and as I was following the news, that's my understanding of the situation. But apparently I was wrong and there's 10% chance that that corpse can still be revived.

I know my build isn't the same as every one else's, but I appreciate that I am able to launch all the steam versions without modding it. 12 plus years of modding and it's good to see them start up flawlessly. Oh course this is just my luck.
I am very happy about this. Glad that it's on steam and I don't have to bother with EA app anymore. Also happy that they just put back like the original. Yes, we need community patch to play online but better than if they started to patch a break stuff.
The screenshots are from alpha or beta versions of the game. I remember seeing exactly these ra2 screenshots in a magazine before its release.
Its weird. I started olaying C&C lately. Got my friends playing C&C3 which I advocated for the Ultimate Collection through EA. It's free with Gamepass Ultimate and was the cheapest way to get all the games at it's $18 price point.
Then a few weeks later steam drops the price of C&C 3 and RA 3 and their DLCs to $2, and then a few days later they release the Ultimate Collection to steam.
Is it recent enough that you could get a refund and just get it on Steam?
@OneSybert Well, I got my copy of TUC at Walmart over a decade ago, and my friends got their copies a few weeks to a month ago. So it's probably too late for a refund.

This is good news overall. My biggest interest is being able to use Steam's Proton for it. I have overall moved on from Windows to Linux. I wonder if this is I response to be Star Wars Battlefront Collection that has just been released.
I don't think it's a response, but more the fact that EA simply isn't getting value from their sales platform (EA App)
OpenRA has a native lunix version btw. Proton mostly is a port of wine that supports steam runtime. Most of compatibility fixes are pushed into mainline wine, and if that is not enough, Lutris team does a great job at prowiding both a launcher with many features to simplify running and installing games through wine and their own build of wine with some additional optimisations. I use proton because of convenience of not having a separate launcher; most games I tested run fine without proton as well
Sadly none of the MP projects seem to work through Linux or at least the one for KW didn't. I wish they would open source their launcher at least.

I'm still waiting for a Tib Sun/Red Alert 2 remaster. The first remaster did very well, so it makes no sense that they wouldn't continue with another one. I'd even take one for generals.

wtf was even the point of getting the collection on steam if it didn't actually get updates to make everything run today? All they had to do was collect the best community patches and adopt them as regular patches for everything to work out of the box and not have to google everything. My cat can do that, but she'd lack the license to do so and the public reach to get everyone on board. This is not even repackaged, just a scam.

I honestly don't know what to think about it. Part of me wants to buy ultimate collection on Steam, but another side wants me to wait, see, and believe we'll receive more remasters. First two were done exactly how remasters should work. With great care and appreciation of fans. I want more of that please instead of having broken titles which need patching, stupid!
I still have the boxed version of many of these titles still in my garage. I did pick these up while on sale as I didn’t own any of these on Steam. I used to play Generals online with my friends for months back in the day. Great times. Still, I think TA is a better RTS than any CnC title.

I already have most of these individually on Steam and whatever launcher EA has. Definitely more convenient to deal with Steam on Linux, but I already jumped through some hoops to get RA2 working with CnCNet.
Might still pick it up for easier TibSun and Renegade, but idk.
got it myself yesterday. the one on origin dont runs well on my pc. tiberium sun red alert 2 and generels werent working. on steam they all run fine. would love to see Emperor playable again.
I'm very mixed about all this.
On one hand I'm very very happy to be able to have these games on a digital platform where I'm not constantly worried about being banned for no reason. There's so many Origin/EA App horror stories out there.
On the other, they definitely should have done more work to get every one of these games functional "out of the box," at least the single player campaigns. I don't expect them to get new official servers running for multiplayer or to go to the same lengths as the community improvements for the campaigns - something like "Zero Hour works but is locked at 4:3" is fine if Zero Hour was originally locked at 4:3 (didn't play it when it was new, I don't know). "Renegade launched but I couldn't leave the menu" is not fine, obviously.
I love Command & Conquer, I'm glad to see these games get new attention, and to be free from the EA App. But the quality of these releases sucks. If it was any other franchise I'd be livid at the state of this release. If the discounted price after account for games I already had wasn't just $5 I don't know if I'd be able to be so neutral about this. I've been angrier about and refused to buy other games for less (although they also cost more, too).
Look EA just give us Remastered Collection 2.

I am still hopeful it all points towards them maybe trying to make a new C&C game at some point. Not hugely hopeful it will happen but with the success of the C&C / RA1 remasters there is always that small chance.
One of the advantages of the individual games, is that you can get it in languages other than english, I know I can patch C&C3 and RA3 to my language, but would be nice to play previous games also in my language, playing C&C Generals in my language automatically sets me to my childhood

Yeah adding languages is definitely great, but just goes on the list of things that EA should have done 12 years ago.
That's been fixed now, there was a bug where people couldn't match, but that's no longer the case.

You can play online. It takes some work to go through all the steps, but yes you can play online.
They put software out there that you have to pay and make it work by yourself. Not even included a fix for new resolutions

@OneSybert can I ask why you think Tiberium Sun won’t perhaps get a remaster in possibly the second phase? Just curious and a massive fan of it as I grew up in that era and was the last time I kinda had a pc.
*If* they do another remaster I assume they'll do TS and RA2, but I am extremely skeptical that another remaster will actually happen. There's definitely a will from people who worked on the TD/RA remaster, but I'm not sure if it's a project that will be greenlit by EA.

Thank you. You are the only one actually mentioning there is no advantage of having the steam version because they literally PACKED the same thing. The only reason cnc exists is because of community and why on earth I pay anything to ea when I can donate to community devs such as genpatcher.
I gave my friend money to buy this bundle, and we spent 3 hours trying to get multiplayer to work to no avail. Amazing waste of time and money. Quite a shame, too. we just went and played Starcraft remastered since we couldn't get this to work.
Honestly, until we actually get something more than re-re-releases of old products, I can't see this as anything more than EA trying to figure out what IPs it still has that's worth monetizing. They tried reviving command and conquer years back, first trying to sell us the random mobile game, before eventually releasing remastered version of the first two games.
Then they did nothing with the franchise, until now when they've released the "please buy it again edition." I don't see a reason to care about the franchise until an actual new product comes out. Until then, there's plenty of other things to spend money on.

On steam i have to pay 4,99 a month to play red alert 2
getting a 3rd party tool is basically standard for C&C games nowadays so it doesn't bother me much, as a 1-1 port to modern tech with minimal effort to make it work is what i expected from EA. And I'd much prefer having all the games and in one spot and spending an hour fixing them all than having them scattered around, especially since i only had to spend $8 for all of it

I'd love to replay some of these games but the hotkey customisation is a dealbreaker for me. For instance red alert 3, I want to drag scroll with middle mouse button not rotate the camera. I want to issue move commands with right click but attack move with left click (one or the other for both is only available option), I want to be able to que commands with shift without removing the ability to add to selection with shift as well (it treats it as if there'd be some kind of conflict). The other annoying unrebindable F keys I could just about deal with but the aforementioned just makes the games unplayable for me due to muscle memory (and my unwillingness to screw up my muscle memory for other RTS games).
Watched your casts for a while now, would you ever consider doing some casts for RA2 mental omega? Games are quite fast paced so I think they’d be good to watch

With community tools all games should have wide screen options. Some of the games you can get it to run in widescreen even without a tool, just by editing the games .ini file in notepad.
CCG/ZH have Gentool which I think is working now with GenPatcher, check the guide linked in the description for more info.

I own a lot of the physical copies thanks to a big box omnibus set I bought after picking up Firestorm at a garage sale because the name sounded cool. Only played the OG C&C through the N64 though. Not going to buy the omnibus series as I already own everything I need to, and physical copies are the best. Between the disks, external hard drives, and old usb sticks I have with the games downloaded they arent going away if one day EA/Steam decided they dont want me to "own" the digital versions anymore.
