Steve, you did an amazing job on my jacket - thank you! I presented it to my daughter over the weekend and we watched your video together. She was amazed, impressed and delighted with the care and imagination you put into the restoration. I am very happy with the leather replacing all the old faux/plastic material - now it's the way it should have been in the first place, making my jacket truly "better than new". It's come a long way since 1978! It's too bad the cuffs & collar don't match the blue of the body, but replacing the old was definitely the way to go, and you can't have everything. We're very happy - thanks again! - Cal
Cal, what a pleasure to hear out from Steve's customers, thanks for stopping by and sharing with us all. I wouldn't worry that much about the cuffs and collar matching, they'll eventually worn out and color will fade in time, I think it'll eventually integrate as a whole.
Your little bug was a Carpet beetle larvae. They eat natural fibres, similar to a clothes moth larvae. He was most likely eating the jacket. Love your work Steve, from a viewer in U.K.
The light blue new addition went really well with the older portion. I was surprised that I liked it that much. Great job and great eye for the color. The wrapped buttons are a great match to the sleeves and pockets. You are a magician!
Sir you are not only a cobbler and a Taylor and a jack of all i have seen other cobblers on u type and you kill them all great work master jack of all cobblers 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I like the way you "press open" a leather seam - with hammer and cement. This should last another 40 years. Lucky girl to have her dad's jacket to wear!
I have to agree with the comments…..the problem solving method you use is first class. I can follow yr reasoning and your stitching methods, well most of your stitching methods. First class restoration project Steve….bravo! Shine on
I have watched you do other jackets, but this one looked more of a challenge to me. Very outstanding outcome, should make the wearer very pleased. Thanks for the video Steve, and take care.
Well done... I love the leather covered buttons they turned out really well. She should treasure that jacket with all the care and time both spent in it (by her dad), and by you on repairing it. :)
You are such an incredible craftsman!!! There is just no limit to what you can do. That turned out so great and is in better condition now than when it was brand new. TYFS!!!
Hi Steve, that restoration was AMAZING! The jacket has a whole new life ahead of it now and the grey leather covered snaps brought the old and new elements together beautifully. Really enjoyed this video. Much love and respect to you and yours from the UK 😁👍
Stunning restoration for this customer. I like what you did with the buttons. Really pulled it together. Looks better than it did new in my opinion. You always go the extra mile with your work.
A major point of the project was to replace the faux leather with the real thing - it should have come with leather in the first place! The phony stuff was wearing/splitting when the jacket was just a year or two old.
Wrapping those snaps was pretty cool. I was thinking you'd find someone to powdercoat them. Fasteners are always the hardest thing to fix. My brother came over a few weeks ago to cut his belt down and add some holes. It was a decorative belt with 12 gauge shell casings and Ihad to move one. They had used a small brass speedy rivet to go in the center to look like a primer. I didn't have one to look the same. I ended up using a #14 copper rivet and sanded the head down in a drill. Ended up looking great but had me head scratching for awhile. I think that why I like watching you work. It is always interesting to see how you problem solve.
It’s a project Steve. Thanks for your vids. They’re planned in your mind. And just like any project there are unforeseen challenges that are addressed when necessary to make the project successful. “Let’s continue 👍”.
I think it's a carpet beetle larvae and it's walking all over its food. Those things can cause a lot of damage. You might find more inside the lining and end up infesting your shop.
Good Afternoon Steve 🙋🏽. It's awesome to see your face today. ( It's A Blessing) that I'M here today ALSO ‼️🙏. NOW I'm going to sit back and watch you work ‼️😃 what is that ‼️ OMG ‼️ did that bug 🐛 come out of that jacket ❓ I hope there's no more 😂🤣😂😅🤣 LoL.😃 LV need to hire you ‼️😃.
When you were modeling that jacket, you looked like that kid at school who failed a lot of grades and was a lot older than everybody else, but he still keeps coming to school. I remember seeing a few of those guys at my old high school! 😁
Very nice resto! The jacket will live for another generation and be back at your shop for your son to restore 40 or so years from now👍🏽He'll be able to refer to this video as a guide😬Thanks always for the great content!
I am going to send you a brand new motorcycle jacket. I will call 1st. Your attention to detail is great. You really seem to love your craft and care about the garments you repair as if they were all your own!
Nice project. By myself I don’t like the contrasting colours but when the customer be fine with it, it’s there choice. For the first I saw hammertime with a jacket involved 🤣
You never cease to amaze my friend! Lol. That jacket came out beautifully. I would be kind of neat to see a photo of your customer and his daughter with her wearing the jacket. That was a great idea he had. Keep em coming Steve!
Steve irons!!! 😂 I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen you iron something on one of your videos😊. Great job as usual, I was really glad that you were able to clean the jacket before putting it back together. I truly hope that the owner and his daughter are thrilled with your beautiful work.
Great job, you really brought that jacket back to life. The leather sleeves will ensure that it lasts for a long time. I'm not sure about the daughter wearing the jacket. When I was in high school if a girl was seen wearing a varsity sweater or jacket, the owner would be thrown out of the Varsity Club. I guess things have changed.
It's actually become fashionable now for teenagers to be wearing vintage clothing - whether it's varsity jackets or old Izod shirts, etc. - hard to imagine but a real thing!
I think you are very brave taking on 'projects' like this. While the customer will be very happy with this restoration, it doesn't quite work. Please don't take this as negative. I think the cuffs and collar should have be leather with contrasting trim. This could be in either colour conbination. Boy, you have guts doing these jobs. Most of the time they work really well. You are a master craft an, but some jobs are beyond repair. Have a good weekend. 👍🍷
You have to remember that it’s not my jacket, it’s the customers jacket and ultimately he decides on what he wants for his jacket. Now, if I was working on YOUR jacket then we can do anything you’d like on your jacket. Btw I’m not taking it negative, quit the opposite. I like feed back
@@BedosLeatherworksLLC Well, I've been following you for a long time, & this is the first vaguely, slightly negative comment which I've made. I complete understand that the client determines what you do, which is great. I am just amazed at what you are willing to take on. Is there anyone else who would do what you do and put it on TH-cam? You're amazing. 👍
Very impressed by your skill, I definitely know where I would send anything I needed restored or resoled. I have become a very big fan of your vids. Keep up the great work.
This was a very interesting one. I am all for restoration and sentimental value (will fiercely defend choosing to 😁) but it appears I have a bias on some things. I was relieved the customer and recipient (see the comment) were happy!
Do they not have solid coloured bands? Not blue and grey striped, but solid gray? And solid blue? Could the wool have been dyed back vibrant to match new sleeve bands?
I have heard today JR is no longer, when the stock is sold, that is it... So consider finding another high end product... But i am sure you know that better than me... Nice work man... Have a good one...
Hey Steve!! Great video and great work man. 🙌🏾 What’s the best way to clean a genuine leather sleeved varsity jacket with a wool body?! 🤔 I don’t see any cleaning recommendations on any of the tags other than “professional leather cleaning” for the sleeves!!

Hi! I'm from Spain. I'm a pest controler here since 2000. This insect is a bug carpet. He likes to eat wool and natural textiles
Wow. Night & day difference.
This job allowed me to discover your artistic skills not only with shoes but as a tailor also.Let’s continue

i dig the worn look. adds character, in high school i wore my uncle's army jacket he wore in WW2, got tons of compliments on it.
Once that jacket passes the 1 year mark, it's gonna look even better than it did fresh out your shop.
Beautiful work as always! The jacket can be worn for generations to come.
I love that it is fixed and sturdy. But it still has a vintage look.
I wonder how many people who call your shop say “hey, man” in that voice after you pick up.

Having a beer before watching the video makes Steve’s jokes funnier than normal
Anybody else remember Al Bundy’s letterman jacket from Polk High?
Do they not have solid coloured bands? Not blue and grey striped, but solid gray? And solid blue? Could the wool have been dyed back vibrant to match new sleeve bands?
Anything is possible but the customer chooses what they want and I follow their lead
Magic.
Very cool. I have a Star Trek jacket where the coating on the "leather" sleeves are peeling with age. It’s a dark teal color. Any suggestions?
Who is answering the phone for you, hope you got some help. Another act of pure magical restoration you are a master craftsman.
That is Reza my counter help
on these letterman jackets that say dry clean only. What's good for lifting stains on the wool portion without discoloration? Thanks
hello. What is the best leather and weight of leather to use for sleeves on a bomber jacket?
Goat skin maybe 1.5-2oz
great as always!!! //Lars

just out of curiosity.... was coloring the jacket was a possibility to match the color.... i have seen some videos where shoes are colored

Almost a Ship of Theseus situation there.
It is a shame you weren't able to bring the blue back on the body but great result nonetheless.
