As usual, I've learned another interesting detail from Brant. GOD bless you always & continue on with your work as this always brings me closer to the scriptures.
Great teaching and explanation Dr. Pitre. I have always thought that the text implied that Simon, Andrew, James and John knew Jesus, or at least knew of him, prior to Jesus calling them to become fishers of men. It just seemed odd that they would all leave their trades and follow someone that they had only just met. You have made it so obviously clear that they did indeed know him, or at least know of him, before he called them. Why didn't I see the reasons for this earlier? (clanks head on table) Thank you for resolving this issue so scripturally and neatly. There is further evidence to support what you are saying concerning some of the disciples of John (if not the majority) returning to their trades after his death, as shown in the actions of the apostles after Jesus' death. "Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” John 21:2-3 This appears to have been the modus operandi in first century Judea and the Galilee for disciples who had lost their leader. Keep up the great work. BTW I'm not a Catholic, but I like your teachings very much. God bless!
For the note Daniel 2:44 is not the only prophetic scripture of the coming kingdom in the bible. Also Micah 4:3-4, Isaiah 11:9, Micah 4:2, Amos 9:13-14, Ezekiel 34:26-27, Isaiah 35:6-7, Isaiah 11:6, Isaiah 35: 5-6, Ezekiel 11:19-20, Isaiah 9: 6-7.
The difference between John's account of Jesus meeting Peter the first time and Mark's account where Jesus called Peter to follow is presented in the book: "The Life & Work of Jesus in Sequence" by Cox Alviso
Thank u Dr Petri 4 ua clarifications. Nb. Could they also hav 2 believed in Jesus bcos they had already encountered Him when they followed Him 2 His home & bcos of th miracle He performed when they caught a haul of fish at th sea of gallile? 🙏 God grant u a long & healthy life 2 continue doing His work. Amen. 🙏
But perhaps the reason why Peter and Andrew left their nets and followed Jesus is answered by Luke. Jesus in Luke's account did the miraculous catch of fish there and then the calling to become fishers of men. The testimony of the Baptist in John as well. So it is the testimony of the Baptist in John's Gospel plus the miraculous catch of fish in Luke's Gospel that do made the calling of the disciples perfect sense The time of fulfillment and the Kingdom of God is at hand means here that Jesus is now bringing the prophecy of Isaiah about God coming to His Temple as King of the world. And that the prophecy of Daniel fits nicely in Jesus coming at the time of the Empires standing as seen by Nebuchadnezzar.
I personally find it difficult to understand how these two disciples after having left their master (John the Baptist) to follow Jesus as we heard in the Gospel of yesterday, would again come back to him. I thought they remained with him for once.
@@gandahoamour1567 they did until John was imprisoned by Antipas. Then they went back to their fishing trade. Suddenly Jesus comes along and then does for them the miraculous catch of fish in Luke's Gospel and then the call in Mark's Gospel to become fishers of men. They suddenly remembered the testimony of the Baptist about Jesus, that He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world as per the 53rd chapter of Isaiah.
Why did Andrew find Christ first instead of Peter? What was Peter doing besides fishing and how did he grow up? Because in John's Gospel, Christ tells him that when we was young he used to dress himself and go wherever he wanted but when he would be old another would dress him and take him where he did not want to go? Why was Peter always on the move as a child and so free?
@po18guy Isnt there a contradiction between the gospel of John and the synoptic gospels concerning this? Do not the synoptics present John as knowing Jesus?
Quran Surah al-imran verse 26 26. Say (O Muhammad ): “O Allah! Possessor of the kingdom, You give the kingdom to whom You will, and You take the kingdom from whom You will, and You endue with honour whom You will, and You humiliate whom You will. In Your Hand is the good. Verily, You are Able to do all things. Quran Exegesis on Surah al-imran verse 26 by Ibn Kathir meaning, You are the Giver, You are the Taker, it is Your will that occurs and whatever You do not will, does not occur. This Ayah encourages thanking Allah for the favors He granted His Messenger and his Ummah. Allah transferred the Prophethood from the Children of Israel to the Arab, Qurashi, Makkan, unlettered Prophet, the Final and Last of all Prophets and the Messenger of Allah to all mankind and Jinn. Allah endowed the Prophet with the best of qualities from the prophets before him. Allah also granted him extra qualities that no other Prophet or Messenger before him was endowed with, such as granting him (more) knowledge of Allah and His Law, knowledge of more of the matters of the past and the future, such as what will occur in the Hereafter. Allah allowed Muhammad's Ummah to reach the eastern and western parts of the world and gave dominance to his religion and Law over all other religions and laws. May Allah's peace and blessings be on the Prophet until the Day of Judgment, and as long as the day and night succeed each other. salem.yaseen@gmail.com
The importance of Jesus saying Repent and believe in the gospel indicates the Old Testament writings. This throws a tremendous weight behind the Old Testament and should not be discounted ever.
I'm sorry, but I think you told the dream incorrectly. Why ignore the bottom of the statue in Nebuchadnezzar's dream, being the feet made of a mix of iron & clay, which many say is where we are today, thus being many nations mixed together, sharing a global economy, seeming very strong like iron, but in reality being very weak & fragile? Isn't it true that the present world empires will also crumble by the stone that we call Jesus/God & then afterward his kingdom will be built upon the earth? You pointed to the idea that the kingdom came during the Roman era, but the coming of the Kingdom of God in the dream doesn't really seem to be referring to Jesus' first coming at all. All of the statue must be knocked down first, which includes today's mixed empire.
How can they say the kingdom is here and is the Catholic church ? I've heard a bishop say that Jesus Himself is the kingdom. And Daniel is not the only specified old testament prophecy of the coming kingdom. Do your research people. Don't be deceived. Greek engizo translated "at hand" means to draw near to something and does not imply that something has already come.
I think maybe you recognize the flaw in his teaching. The statue in the dream also had feet made of a mix of clay & iron, these were below the Roman empire (legs of iron) & must also must fall & is where the stone hit. Many believe that this represents the world today, a mixed empire. Today we have many strong nations all mixed together with a global economy. It appears very strong like iron, but in reality it's very weak like clay. We've been seeing it fall apart right in front of our eyes over the past couple of years. The Kingdom spoke of is God's coming kingdom after the current empires fall & Jesus returns. It's the 2nd coming of Christ, not the 1st.

How can we help, brother?
Hey, what's wrong?
Help? What is it?
Jesus came preaching the Kingdom of God and we wound up with the Catholic Church
Why do you think that collection of writings in what you call the bible is somehow so terribly important? You seem to read it as history!
