      @@TigraxPlays - This is the first major rap song that's subject was mental health. They showed other rappers that it's okay to rap about these kind of issues.
      This is especially important in the black community because there's always been a strong stigma against mental health.

    The little guy is Bushwick Bill. He's a very good lyricist and a storyteller. You should check his solo track "Ever so clear". Bushwick raps about a sad incident that happened to him in real life.

    I realized what I had, when I got my wife. Thanks for that, I finally got something worth living for, and she got me finally out of the streetlife at the age of 25... Now i'm "grown up" and starting a family with her, and marriaged her, and got a better home, he pretty much brought something i life, and showed there can be something great and good too. She's literally my everything. I realize that i'm one of the rare ones who made it out from the streets, and from the bottom, and that's something i am so grateful of

      Joonas ja Pauliina Mikkola That’s great, man. I didn’t get caught up in the street life, but I did get caught up in drugs and being an addict for years, and it cost me my marriage, and my ex-wife was also my best friend. I’m so glad you were able to get it together before you lost her. I didn’t do that, and if it weren’t for my friends and family, the guilt would’ve killed me.

    The story behind this song is interesting: This song was written by Scarface for his own solo album. Scarface's grandmother used to say "my mind is playing tricks on my" whenever she forgot something or had a memory lapse. He took it and made it a street tale. The owner of their independent label heard the song and convinced Scarface (who is a member of the Geto Boys) to use it for the Geto Boys. Willie D never liked the song but he wrote his verse. Scarface gave his last verse to Bushwick Bill (the midget) and it was their first hit. The sample is from Isaac Hayes who's from Memphis and the Geto Boys are from Houston so that's why is has that southern feel

  • @mzcytin
    @mzcytin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This song isn't about addiction. It was part of a short sub genre called horrorcore (see also Gravediggaz). Mental illness is explored at length within the genre. This song is about mental illness, in this case, mental illness associated with selling drugs. He was the only one associated with the sub genre to have a lasting mainstream impact. Scarface's music is full of very cerebral themes mixed with "street" subject matter. In the 90s, we listened to drug dealer music, the hardcore drug addict influence on the genre didn't come until around 1999/2000. This song is early 90s/late 80s.

    The best part of the tiny desk performance was when he brought his son out right before he played this, "I often drift when i drive, having fatal thoughts of suicide, BANG and get it over with, then I'm worry free but, thats bullsht, I got a little son to look after, and if i die my child will be a bastard" I can't say it enough Mike Dean went crazy on that performance

    A much better fun fact: Bushwick Bill (the little person) got in an argument with his then girl friend and ended up trying to shoot himself in the head. However since his ex was trying to get the gun from him, he ended up shooting his eye out. He also took a picture of himself in the hospital and used it for one of his album covers.

    Your evaluation was of course from a Caucasians prospective of issues in the poor black community. It was story of depression and anxiety disorder that plague the black community due to lack of every thing. Yes it was a well told story that sounded like simple cocaine addiction problem but that particular song was way more deeper then the details described in it. Your mind can play tricks when your broken, busted and disgusted with no way or no options out. Good try though brother.

    Please ask Jesus into your heart now if you haven't done so already. Each one of us has sinned and needs redemption, each one of us needs to be forgiven of our sins to enter into Heaven, a sinless place where there's no more tears or sorrow, or they will instead go to Hell, a place of torment without anything good, and only Jesus Christ, the messiah, the savior of the world, is able to forgive you of your sins so you may enter and live for eternity in Heaven with God because Jesus came to earth as a man, born of a virgin, a man that lived a perfect life without ever sinning, Jesus was God in the flesh, He performed miracles like giving sight to the blind, curing diseases, and even bringing people back from death, but was hung up on a cross to die like a criminal. That was the sacrifice that saves us from our sins, because the price to pay for sinning is death, but when Jesus, God in the flesh, is sacrificed for his love of us, he paid that price for us, the sins that would have sent us to Hell were borne by Jesus, our savior, on the cross, and by His wounds we are healed. That wasn't the end though, on the 3rd day he rose from the grave, defeating sin and death. Before returning to Heaven, Jesus told his followers to go out and preach the Good News of salvation so that others may be saved as well. I hope that whoever reads this understands that I love you and want the salvation of your soul, because all of us have sinned, nobody but Jesus was ever perfect, and everyone needs his FREE gift of salvation. All you need to do is say in your heart: "Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner in need of salvation and that you are the only way to salvation. I ask you to come into my heart and forgive me of my sins. I submit to you as my lord and savior. Please help me to turn away from the sins of my past life and be born again into a new life of living to resist the temptations of sin and serve your holy purpose for my life. In Jesus Christ's name I pray, amen." If you said that in your heart, congratulations, I'll see you in Heaven. If not, please don't hesitate to confide in me or ask me questions, I'd love to share more about what I know about Jesus and how He's changed my life.
