@Abu Dabu Fortunately due to the German populations support for incendiary bombing of civilian populations in places like Guernica, Warsaw, Rotterdam and London they were extremely happy when the RAF and eighth air force bombed them back to the stone age. Later they were grateful that the soviet troops were far more civilized than their hun counterparts and didnt kill the women after they had raped them.

you can have your big houses and fancy cars but very few will ever experience that oppertunity. special thank you to my Airborne brothers that hacve served and continue to serve. static line jump training was the longest endevour i had ever taken on and to this day its my goto strategy for and large long term endevor. to the youth, there is an oppertunity in Canada to acheieve such a goal, within the Army Cadet movement after years of being better than the best but not nessicarily towing the line(its aspecific person that can knowningly throw them selves outta a plane) and more self disciplione than anyone you meet you may have the oppertunity. within the military ranks it was always difficult to get your wings, and its why u make hear smack about the process, dont mid them fools, you get a better more indepth course(considering you 17) and graduated certified whit a set of wings just like your great grandfathers wpre. be safe people and please never forget that sacrifice, the lil snots of today would be bewildered at the process of saving humanity...EX COLIS

Thanks to all those that served and well done Guy!
Did my first jump at Nacton, near Ipswich with a group of friends. Old style round parachute with the reserve at the front. Felt like a very heavy rucksack on your back. Great fun. Several years later as a Police Officer, did a charity jump to send a very ill lad and his family to Disneyland. Trained by the Armed Services at JSPC at Netheravon. A great bunch of people. Used a round parachute again. I must have got the bug! I went back a couple of years later with some friends and did another course. You could have done an accelerated free fall course at the time and we would have got Services rates and I often wish that I had as they would have advanced me so much. I went back unannounced a couple of weekends later to do another jump. The welcome from the Staff was amazing. I made another jump and then went to get another parachute to do another. 'Not so fast' said one of the Instructors, 'You can do a parachute packing class now.' That was rather special. I certainly took notice of that course. After passing that, every jump I made was with a parachute that I had packed!
I loved the camaraderie of the people there. I would drive three hours down on my one weekend off a month, do some jumps, stay overnight on site, jump again if the weather was fine, then three hours home.
Began to see a lovely Lady that later became my wife. I asked her if she wanted to join me parachuting, but she had a horse and rode him at weekends. I gave up the parachuting as we only had one full weekend together a month. In some respects, I wish that I had been able to keep it up. I can still remember that thought of 'Why am I jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft?!!'
Great respect for all those Airborne troop of the past and present.👍

Later he flew in Burma and India. I recall in the 1950s him telling me stories and showing me some of his old RAF artefacts such as a knee pad navigational aid and flying jacket. He also had a rubberised map of Burma that would not rot in the high humidity of the far east.

The gentleman who paid no mind to the youth of today would be eerily familiar with the horrors our soldiers, sailors and airmen go through every day. All volunteers. I'll never forget that viral video of pensioner veterans meeting young veterans, an old man tearing up and just saying "christ, you've been through alot haven't you son?" They've spent twenty years fighting for something that can't be accomplished. You can't bomb an idea. I hope they get their fair share of honor some day.
As for our WW2 vets, my late grandpa spent his last decades desperately trying to give somebody his bronze star. He didn't think he deserved it. His biggest fear was people not understanding that all anybody wanted to do was go home. I can't imagine the horror, and I'll always be grateful to them for what they did. They didn't just win a war, they came home and carried on living. That's heroism.

Love that you didn't just disappear after racing, I was one of your biggest fans and i can say that I am Glad you quit when you did,and we still get a taste ,the island is definitely a number of numbers game, and by my calculations you did the right thing, I am selfish I wanted to see you win the senior one time but I would definitely rather see you alive we all love you guy

    "no hesitation at all"
Man they had balls of steel.
Shells exploding all around them, planes being blown up next to them, friends being killed next them, and they still didn't even hesitate!!!!
We don't even know we're born!!!!

I had the privilege of being taught by parachute regiment instructors in preparation for both static line and freefall jumps required as part of the Royal Engineers combat engineers course in the 1980s,bloody terrifying the first jump on a static line wondering if it would function as intended!,huge respect to the paras who do this as a matter of "routine".

Thank you to all the men and women who served and died. Many Jews can thank my grand father for their lives as he was part of the Danish under ground . It was a team effort and the Canadians who stormed the beach on june 6th 1944 helped secure a foot hold, there by ending the war in 3 months . My hope is we never see another war again . Happy Canada Day long weekend lest we forget those who died to keep us free.\EDIT I would not be here alive if it were not for that day.
