This review is good, he did what he said he'd do and didn't bore us with shit we already knew. Keep in mind these TH-cam presentations are seen and heard on tablets and smart phones. Don't expect to smell the players armpits and have tea and crumpets afterward.
I just took delivery of micro terror and cab, this amp has blown my mind, for the price, its a killer, works well with my pedals too.Get one,its a no brainer really,Rock on
+John Iain McFarlane So, just to make sure if i want it, this amp is loud and good quality sound enough for gigs and jams, not just because is small and affordable.
+Enzo Sisneros jams definitely, but gigs?as a spare yeah.but you can hear from the reviews its a winner,I love mine, and it goes plenty loud and stil sounds great!
HOLY! Thinking this guy looks familiar then finally realize it's RG! OMG! Never knew he was heavy like this ever. Good for him to get all buffed now! His playing has buffed up too!
I just bought it today and haven't played too much with it, but when I was demoing it at GC I was able to get some really nice control on the feedback. I was sitting right in front of a Marshall 4x12 with it cranked and I didn't get anything i wasn't trying to get
Ha! That cab looks HUGE with that tiny thing on it. That would definitely grab people's attention when you play live. Now all you need is one of those micro versions of a strat or Les Paul and you're ready to crank on some miniature Rock.
Micro Terror has a single 12AX7 preamp tube and SS power section. X2 has one 12AX7 and two 6V6 power tubes. The SuperChamp X2 head is $275, the Micro Terror is $150. X2 has a bunch of built-in effects. Micro Terror is stripped-down simplicity. I don't think these two can really be compared with one another. It just depends on what you're goin for.
What a great guitar player. I have been using this amp as my main through a PRS 2x12. Less than $400 for everything and I've never been complimented more. What is the next amp upgrade from this one? Is it the mini?
Finally a guy who does a clean demo- Lil terror has no bottom end has plenty of treble sounds like a tele playing all the time clean- has good gain great for you rock metal heads- thx for the demo i will not buy one...
would be a better demo if they told us what cab they are playing it thru. Since speaker cabs tend to make a difference. If its thru the 8" that orange paired with this it is impressive but the cover over the cab doesn't help me decide.
Truly does sound impressive, although a single tone control seems a bit limiting. I played a Fender Jazz bass through a similarly small Orange amp/speaker combo at a local shop and found it difficult to believe that what my ears were hearing was coming from what my eyes were seeing.
Cool little amp. Been looking at this for a while. will be a while longer if I get 1 but its affordable for those on a tight budget n the sound is definately decent enough.
I just got it as a backup. My main rig is a laney lionheart 20 watt hand wired head going into either two celestion 600. ( real deal not reissue) g10-20s in series. Open back and gt75s 16 ohm in parrel close back. That ting gets tone but I bought this head just for the shear sake of having a backup. It won't beat my laney but it's a great backup all I have to say is like with any amp. Plug into a good set of speakers. The matching cab for this one is not good!!!!
The tones from this little amp are incredible,I cant stress this enough, its tiny, powerful and dirt cheap, sounds gr8 thru phones but will drive a 4×12 cab,and built like a tank,I cant get enough of mine, its always on.
I think this is an ad rather than a review because he doesn't tell you what cab he is using. It looks like a 4x12 not the 1x8 that the head is often bundled with. I don't expect an 8 to sound like a 12 but some 8s are better than others, so it would have been nice to hear it. He doesn't even try to get a genuine clean out of it, leaving it a mystery whether that is possible. Note that 20 watts solid state is not much louder than 5 tube watts, especially on crunch, where tube distortion increases the volume but not the RMS wattage, since RMS is measured at very low distortion.
That amp is loud as fuck, it doesn't feel like 20W at all. I've tried lots of 5W tube amps and this thing is at least twice as loud as any of them. The 1x8 is not great but it can give a 50's tweed style sound that could be very useful, there's much speaker breakup with cleans and can get some nice crunch sounds. With a 412 or 212 you can get truly great sounds - not even great for the prize but great by themselves. It sounds pretty much the same as the vid IRL. It can go clean but the cleans feel much more "transistory" than the overdrive, since most of the sound comes from the solid state power stage instead of the tube preamp. It still good and it can get some headroom by lowering the volume on the guitar.
Don't assume anything..I have one of these with the accompanying cabinet....i did an outdoor gig...didnt mic it and it cut easily through a acoustic, bass, full drums....
I bought one and I think it's a good deal just for the tone. I haven't tried to see how loud it can go. The speaker lacks bass but still sounds very good. If you like the tone a nice step up would be to add Orange's 1x12 closed back which contains a premium Celestion speaker and is very efficient (102db/watt). It's about $375 so the pair would cost no more than a Blues Junior, AC15, or similar and you'd be getting a better speaker.
The PPC108 is still a nice cab for a tweed style tone, or plainly playing at low volumes. I got one quite a while after buying the amp, second hand for cheap. It didn't convince me at the shop but i started to dig it after buying it more and more. The speaker being more broken in also helps, though i may try a replacement speaker (probably an Eminence 8") to make the sound even better and get a little more versatility out of it.
I would worry that replacing the speaker would change the tone, which is one of its strong points. Speakers vary a lot in their response curves. I think the Orange is great for a small speaker, at least with that head.
Including the info about the cab used is pretty important, considering the bass end between a 1x8 which this comes with and a 4x12 is pretty significant ....
Why, that would just be an underpowered version of the tiny terror and it that segment there is a lot of competition, mt falls into a niche between solid state micro amps like the Marshall MS 2 and the small affordable full tube amps. Besides there are advantages to the hybrid construction: it is more reliable, easier to maintain, more compact and lightweight, since it doesn't need transformers or an internal fuse, runs at lower voltages and consumes less power than full tube amps.
please tell me what i want to hear is that amp straight into a cab or are you using it as a pre amp into another why would you play a strat through an amp like that/
Yes, I want a 2 Watt Tiny Terror because 7 Watts is still too much for evenings indoors. There are myriad advantages to Solid State electronics. That's why militaries converted 50 years ago. The one place Solid State is not welcome: In an audio enthusiast's home. Power Tube compression and overdrive may be the most incredible sonic advantage a guitarist can employ. Hybrid is OK, but not like this. Vox did it well in their 'Valve Reactor'. Pre-Tube break-up is piddly compared to Power Tubes.
I love this little amp to travel with, yes it is that small. However, it sounds incredible. I run it by a 1x12 and sounds really loud. For the price it is a real bargain. Please trust me you will not be dissapointed. Also, it takes pedals really well. I run an MXR Carbon Copy, a Tube Scemer TS808 and a Cry bavy Wah, and it sounds great. Ofcourse, it does not compare to my Rockerverb, but it is not intended to. As far a running it clean, it is not that good since the volume just drops dramtically, but with the right pedal it will work, just don't expect to be a tiny terror or dark terror as far as volume goes, but it is ridiculously cheaper.
I just got one of these. I love it with a Strat, DMM Delay, and Tim pedal. I haven't had good luck using a tube screamer (yet). I get pretty decent clean headroom with the strat but not with humbuckers at all.
OMG! You look so much different now! You don't even look like the same guy and your hands look like guitar player hands now, back then you kind of had some sausage fingers... lol
This review is good, he did what he said he'd do and didn't bore us with shit we already knew. Keep in mind these TH-cam presentations are seen and heard on tablets and smart phones. Don't expect to smell the players armpits and have tea and crumpets afterward.
Great playing, I really like the legato licks, so smooth
I play mine thru the Hartke GT60 4x8 cab and it's beautiful, clean has just enough "pristinity" while the grits from the gain is marvelous.
Nice review and great playing too!
Love the tone, the musicianship is incredible, reminds me of Audley Freed. Your in good company mate, cheers
I just took delivery of micro terror and cab, this amp has blown my mind, for the price, its a killer, works well with my pedals too.Get one,its a no brainer really,Rock on

Thanks, im just torn between this one and a hughes and ketnner.
+Enzo Sisneros I havent seen much of the HK,but the Orange is more powerful.Good luck with whichever u choose,Rock on;)
Thanks man.
Incredible sound !! Great playing !!!
Man Rick has turned his body around. He's an absolute tank now.
HOLY! Thinking this guy looks familiar then finally realize it's RG! OMG! Never knew he was heavy like this ever. Good for him to get all buffed now! His playing has buffed up too!
this is the first video ive seen/heard where a strat sounds good through an orange
Best review and demo of this amp yet
I just bought it today and haven't played too much with it, but when I was demoing it at GC I was able to get some really nice control on the feedback. I was sitting right in front of a Marshall 4x12 with it cranked and I didn't get anything i wasn't trying to get
Great review! The amp would fill a large jacket pocket and the reviewer could fill a stadium! Great playing and a cool sounding amp!
Ha! That cab looks HUGE with that tiny thing on it. That would definitely grab people's attention when you play live. Now all you need is one of those micro versions of a strat or Les Paul and you're ready to crank on some miniature Rock.
Yea' for all the Dwarf Bickers' eh ?

Seems great, and incredible player too
AMAZING GUITARIST
That Suhr strat is killer
What a great guitar player. I have been using this amp as my main through a PRS 2x12. Less than $400 for everything and I've never been complimented more. What is the next amp upgrade from this one? Is it the mini?
Its the tiny terror dude :P
Theophilus Akai I
Finally a guy who does a clean demo- Lil terror has no bottom end has plenty of treble sounds like a tele playing all the time clean- has good gain great for you rock metal heads- thx for the demo i will not buy one...
Great review and demo, thanls
Agree. I love the mag - and its free. Love when i get it in my mail-
Cool playing, man!
it works with cabs of any ohm-age but it has to have a minimum output of 4ohms
I have seen people mic up a tiny Yamaha with like a 8-in speaker no it had to be six the tiny one and it sounded good mic'd
would be a better demo if they told us what cab they are playing it thru. Since speaker cabs tend to make a difference.

Would love to see this with tube power amp at 2-5 Watts and maybe a $50 price hike. Orange would sell a ton more if they did so imho.
Wow sounds great by an excellent player
Da gusto ver un video con buen sonido y con alguien que toca muy bien.
Great impressive sound !!!
Cool little amp. Been looking at this for a while. will be a while longer if I get 1 but its affordable for those on a tight budget n the sound is definately decent enough.

CJ,get one,ive had mine about 6mnths and it keeps astounding me,let the tube warm up for 5mins or so then let it rock!
Best for the entry? Its sound really cool, but it could be much batter, if it has a clean chennel...
It depends man. The amp is a crutial part on your sound. Orange amps have a good drive for Rock/Blues.
I came just to check the new head i was getting and stayed for the stanky blues!!
Very tasty!!
Also the tech!! Damn!!
Great playing man!
Wicked.
Awesome guitarist.
How did you manage to play this with the volume all the way turned up without blowing your eardrums?
Holy shit. He lost SO much weight and got stupid buff.
+MetalCarn Look at him right now, stupid idiot
Great player! What cab is he using?
its ss power, tube preamp. iirc superchamp is the same no?
just how loud is it when paired with the orange 1x8 cabinet
So this is Solid State yea? Not gonna be as crisp as a Fender SuperChamp X2 for nearly same money
it has a great clean tone too and nice early break up
is it great for direct through the mixer?

Thumbs up for Yamaha THR10 series
especially guitarist magazine !

No, it runs the tube at a voltage of about 300 Volts, so it requires a 15 Volt AC adapter
Where is the wide open on the gain?
right hand knob at 5 o clock, gain wide open
hmm, maybe they should call it the little tangerine... awesome little amp
Please tell us the cab you are using
Can you use it without a cab when headphones are in?
Yes
what kind of cab are you using? how many ohms?
is their bad feedback with this amp?
Is this plugged into a cab?
Can it play by itself or do you need to connect to a cab?
You need to connect it to a cab :)
Shit I really need to learn how to play like this guy...
+Omdullla
Better check out how he looking now and playing :DDDDD This guy is helldamn amazing :)
your telling me!!!
@lechuzapunker Good question!
gigging tonight with it as my stereo second amp... put it inside my 1X12 mesa cabinet, laughing as i did! :)
is it loud enough for shows ?
yes, if you mic the cab you are using and of course your drummer isn't a lunatic
Can it works with 8ohms cabs?
Yes
pickups?
I have it, for the price, it's amazing
please tell me what i want to hear
is that amp straight into a cab or are you using it as a pre amp into another
why would you play a strat through an amp like that/

Not so good
Amigos dejo tema grabado con Micro terror y Marshall, asi lo escuchan en mezcla!!! th-cam.com/video/7TiqGjtvzbA/w-d-xo.html
it's a shame it doesn't get really clean, it does sounds very well for distorted tones
Darth Vader says, Move over to the DARK SIDE. The Orange micro DARK Terror..... Fearful.....
Point taken.
150 dollar amp 1500 dollar guitar :D
Yea don't even recognize him now.
wow, he lost a LOT of weight since then
....this thing is not bad ! LES / ...and he plays not bad !
there is no way one can sit through a demo in Guitarist or GuitarWorld after being used to the playing quality in this magazine
this guy play too well (I can only wish to play half as him) and the micro amp is awesome BUT turned off with the slash stuff . really tired of it .
(e)Rick Cartman
OMG! You look so much different now! You don't even look like the same guy and your hands look like guitar player hands now, back then you kind of had some sausage fingers... lol
Nimble little minx
look at him today now he is muscular
woah this guy lost a lot of weight
anyone notice hardly no fender or actual gibson guitars always esp or suhr copies
what a player, screw the amp
It must not be that loud at all, if you can hear him breathing over the audio from the speaker
Fat people tend to breathe very heavily though!
Speaker cab might not be in the same room, this amp is loud
Michael.C陈进轩 yeah possible its an isolation cab
He's wearing a lapel mic right under his chin. The amp is separately mic'd.
believe me,it goes loud,ask my neighbours :)
