In a world were many love to hate, it’s refreshing to see a video were Tag Heuer is very well presented and respected. I’ve always liked their timepieces, especially the 41mm Carrera Day Date with blue dial. Thanks for another outstanding video!!
Thank you Roberto, you are very kind. I could not agree more, too much hate in this world today, often from those who have never experienced the watch in question, in person, or have ever made a film a tenth as good, even if this was obviously not a masterpiece. Best regards, TGV
No hate, but huge disappointment. To me it feels like someone took one of the best and most amazing watch brands of all time and turned it into a dull and boring fashion brand, while all they need to do is what they did with Monaco, reissue amazing watches from the 70s and change nothing.
@@sinesaii in house snobs are the most hilarious bunch. yes, you get the privilege of paying several thousand dollars more as well as having to get it serviced at the AD and likely sent back to Switzerland from whichever country you live in, for a several month wait until it's finally ready and sent back to you, and you're sitting there hoping that nothing has gone wrong at any point in the journey because it will be another several month wait, all because it's an in house movement which the local watchmakers don't know how to / don't want to work on. the best part is that there is functionally no difference until you start spending tens of thousands for the tippy top tier, which are still far less accurate than quartz watches and far more delicate and temperamental.
I've bought this Carrera 39mm blue dial last friday. It is my first Swiss automatic and first "luxury watch" I'm a big fan of motorsport and I was interested in wrist watches since I was a kid. Im watching you for few years now and I learned a lot from your channel. Thank You so much.
It’s a shame that Tag is largely ignored by watch enthusiasts - ok so they are on the pricey side but they’re very well made and nicely finished - personally the Carrera 3 hand 39mm is a grail watch for me and has been for decades - nice to see one of the 3 watch channels with the biggest followings take a look at a Tag :)
For many enthusiasts the issue with TAG Heuer is not so much to do with the watches, but with the ‘TAG’ bit. Pre-TAG watches and re-releases without ‘TAG’ on the dial are much admired among enthusiasts. Heuer is the ‘better’ name, the part with the long history and post-war motor racing heritage. But then I presume the vast majority of TAG Heuer buyers are not core watch enthusiasts and talk about their “TAGs”, so the branding is the branding.
I think the opposite is true compered to Omega and Breitling some watch snobs maybe think they are a slightly less premium brand because they have quite a few watches that cost £1500 or less.
@@jimjudy2489 I’m familiar with that watch - it’s very nice and Certina is underrated as a brand - however, the same could be said for the Tissot Gemtleman Powermatic 80 - a lot of watch for the money - I bought one as a substitute for the Tag (at around 1/4 the price) but you know what they say about substitutes - they never really scratch the itch do they?
The reason why Tag is looked down upon by watch enthusiasts is because of 2 reasons. 1 they’re sold in dept stores like Macys and they feel it cheapens the brand. Even though Rolex was sold in Costco until a few years ago. 2. They primarily use ETA or Selitta movements instead of in house and feel they over charge for watches with some cheaper movements.
I own and absolutely love my 41mm blue Tag Heuer Caliber 5 with date. Bought it when my son was born five years ago and it is still today dead accurate. Every time I meet a watchmaker they all point out what an underrated watch with superb price quality ratio it is.
While I too like the look of the chronograph version better myself, I really have to respect the fact they went with the three-hander. It's so rare these days to see a movie character wearing a classic looking watch and I think they did a perfect job with this casting.
Tag Heuer is great. I own omega, 2 Rolex and few other brands including 2 Tag Heuers. My wife has a Tag, Rolex and Omega. We love watches and don’t Follow childish wannabe watch enthusiasts. I buy what I love to wear regardless of name
As an Italian, every time TGV speaks in my language I shout a “grandissimo!”🇮🇹✌️ Love the watch, but I wish they made it in a 36mm. That gorgeous dial and bracelet combination would have been such a cool classic understated capolavoro.
Great content, very well presented. My first "Good" watch was a Tag 1000 I'd purchased in Hong Kong while stationed there in the late 80's. Tag has always had a special spot in my heart.
I remember seeing Tag Heuers in the Service Merchandise catalog when I was a kid (do the math, kiddies), and feeling absolutely hopeless at their $300 to 400 price tags, which would be pretty moderate now. Those things are freaking beautiful.
I have had my TAG Heuer F1 Chronograph with blue dial for 4 years now. It's on a lovely Gulf Racing Nato strap and it never fails to make me feel great wearing it
thank you for making me into a proper gentleman when it comes to choosing the correct watch with the correct wardrobe during the correct activities....no more watch conflicts in my life.
Oh man, thank you for reviewing this one! I think TAG Heuer is going in a good direction recently. The red dial Carrera Chronograph looks excellent and hope you can get your hands on that!
That Carrera has the same problem as my lovely 39mm Certina DS-4 small seconds. 39mm is fine, but the thin bezel makes the dial look oversize and makes the watch feel much larger than it really is. I prefer a smaller watch, 38mm so I should be fine with a 39. But when the dial is so large it feels like going up a scale.
honestly this carrera doesnt look that different than the king seiko 1960s styled 140th anniversary watch. both look really nice, fairly simple dial, good proportions and really nice polishing.
Thank you for covering Tag. A balanced design. Great watch. Yes, it should be a bit lower in price to get more enthusiasts into their brand. I wish they could do more editions of the old Heuer models as they are such classics of design.
Tag Heuer is great history, major contributions to horology and they have ICONS. Many watch companies wish they had. I own omega, 2 Rolex and few other brands including 2 Tag Heuers. My wife has a Tag, Rolex and Omega. We love watches and don’t Follow childish wannabe watch enthusiasts. I buy what I love to wear regardless of name
To me it’s an odd choice for a character like “6” but I’m glad to see Tag Heuer getting some love. My first mechanical automatic “real” watch was a Tag Professional 2000 so I’ll always have a soft spot for them. I don’t think any mechanical watch would have survived the first seven minutes of the movie honestly… but hey Hollywood 😉
Me too! And I regret ever selling it, loads of watches since then, first Omega then Rolex but the Tag 2000 will always be my favourite I think. Literally just ordered the 41mm blue dial today and can’t wait for it to arrive!
I watched The Gray Man and enjoyed it, despite it receiving some fairly bad reviews. Ana de Armas is a pleasure to watch. Gosling did a fine job in this movie.
I received a Carrera Chronograph with the blue dial and steel bracelet as a gift from my wife in March. It has the Heuer 02 movement. I love the watch and think it's a good value given the quality and beauty. I know of the hate TAG receives from the watch collectors but I don't care about status among watch snobs. I have watches ranging from the simple (but great) Seiko 5 automatic to a Kermit Submariner, but love wearing the TAG Chronograph. The blue dial and complications are just fun to admire during the day.
I love how you showcase the many great timepieces in cinema. Also I find it refreshing that you talk about older movies and actors who weren’t from this whole “Tiktok Era”. Great video even if I am s lot late to the party. thanks
I find it surprising that almost no one has noticed that the exact same model with a steel strap WBN2111.BA0639 which I ordered before knowing anything about its history in the cinema by the way It also appears in the film "The idea of you" apparently and according to them without it being a paid collaboration (I believe it due to the lack of publicity regarding it) the watch is practically the third protagonist of the film, the subject would also make for a video, without a doubt a beautiful watch, I look forward to it arriving Greetings from Spain.
I love this wristwatch match, especialy with that silver dial It definitely pops up. It reminds me of Oris which was in film Constantine and John Wicks Bucherer, these dressier watches on action heroes are quite cool.
Another great review and a great watch but personally I prefer the Tag Leo wore in Wolf of Wall Street but this isn’t a movie watch suggestion but TGV please review the ZRC grand fonds 300 dive watch
I really like the look of the watch (albeit it looks surprisingly similar to my original dressy Seiko 5 I have on a leather strap, with the exception of the date). I've not seen the movie but I do agree from what you said about it, it seems like the chronograph would perhaps have been a bit of a better suited choice. However as I always say where what you want when you want it's your wrist! Great video about the watch and good mini review of the movie. Much appreciated as always sir 👍
Tag Heuer will always have a special place in my heart, as the brand that introduced me to a Swiss made watch, as in a 'big boy's watch clubs'. Before that it was Swatch and Seiko 5s as my dad didn't believe I had the maturity to keep a 'real man's watch' (his words) on my wrist. Best 12th birthday present ever.
Had a crush on it in the the duty free in Taiwan 3 years ago - almost bought it because of it’s pleasing timeless design - today I’d rather go for the vintage “Rolex Airking” for almost the same money … little bit too massive (especially the case height) for my actual taste - but still a watch I like in general
11:20 As much as I really love watching 'The American/Very Private Gentleman", I always cringe at Clooney's professional gunsmith/assassin using wildly inaccurate MPH for muzzle velocity, mixing up the windage/elevation turrets, & calling a Ruger Mini 14 an "M-14." Oh & "exploding, mercury tipped" 5.56 lol.
Right ! The wife and I have movie night sorted this weekend! For me I feel Tag has done too much damage on their image / marketing / smart watch etc for me to ever buy a new one. The vintage Chronos are beautiful . This watch , despite being on the wrist of Goslin won’t sell well will it?!?! The competition at the price is crazy. Think it will take them another decade coming out with classic non formula 1 racing divers for me to ever consider one T.
Few weeks ago I came across with the TAG HEUER Carrera in the Bucherer store in Berlin. The funny coincident: On the way to bucherer I passed the "Zoo Palast" Theater where where hundrets fans waited at the red carpet for Ryan Gosling for the premier of "Grey Man". Till this monent I didn't know anything about the movie. Back to the watch: I saw the Carrera live and wow...what an elegant yet sporty and dynamic looking design and individual look. I was so impressed to see such a watch in a world hommages of hommages of hommages. I think this brand deserves much more respect.
Love this piece, and this piece by you 😉. I am getting this as my dress watch. Gosselin is the king of cool, he made this for me. I love everything about it.
You forget to mention the Hamilton American Classic Boulton worn by Chris Evans, which for me was perfectly chosen considering his all round attire. A film I personally really enjoyed. A bit of a throwback to the 90’s action film which had me laughing quite a few times too!
Hey TGV, a weird one for you. I happened to watchspot Michael Douglas in Falling Down. Check the Fast Food Breakfast scene (when he arrives 1 min late), he's wearing a Lorus.
This a great looking watch although it does remind me of the King Seiko and for my small wrist and personal taste, I'd rather go for the KS. Great video.
I'm very curious as to why your Carrera has a Novodiac shock absorbing mechanism seen at 14:32. Novodiac is the lower grade shock absorbing mechanism for Base and Elabore versions of the movement. When everywhere else, including the Tag Heuer product page for this specific reference, and many other youtube videos show the movement to have an Incabloc shock absorbing mechanism reserved for Top and COSC movements. Is Tag Heuer switching between top grade and elabore/base movements for the same references? Did you receive a fake? Or was this watch serviced already and a base Sellita dropped in place?
Anyone who loves the Grand Seiko or Rolex Oyster dial/indices design has to at least like the Carrera dial. If not you’re just venting your Tag hatred on to the Carrera model for the sport of it. It’s a classic watch now.
How come no one ever reviews/talks about the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 18, Chronograph (ref. CAR221A.FC6353) !? A simple yet elegant, 39mm, 2 sub-dial chronograph that pays homage to the golden era of racing. If there ever was a Ryan Gosling watch, this would be it. Great video and thanks for reminding me that I need to see this movie.
I've loved TAG Heuer since I first got to handle and try on my Dad's Carrera GMT (and older model of the wbn201A) Never quite understood the stigma against the brand, especially when they have such amazing designs as the Monaco.
Of course! The strap is the same as in the link, my camera just made it look darker, it is a little light in real life. I hope that helps. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
I love the Tag Heuer brand. My wife bought me the Carrera Chronograph (blue dial) to go with my small collection of two professional 1000 and my Monza. I just like them and you can find second hand Tags/Heuer at even better savings. The carrera is my first new one and I love it as well as the others. One day hope to get the Monaco blue dial or red? Maybe purple. They make it hard to decide ……. GREAT video by the way and I love the NATO strap items especially the color combo you showed. How can we get it!!!
Thank you so much Bobby. Your wife has good taste! Enjoy your beautiful Tags, great choices btw. As for the strap, link in description on the video. Best regards, TGV
I really enjoy this movie: IMHO, it didn't get the success it deserves: Great Ryan Gosling performance, unusual Chis Evans character, and Amazing Ana de Armas (like in the Bond movie). Now, I'm always hitting on pause to check the watches in any movie: I just can't help it. where is that coming from ?! 😏
I love your channel. Would you consider making a video on your thoughts about Stuhrling watches? They have been a bestseller for years on Amazon here in the US. However, there’s not a single professional opinion video on them on TH-cam.
Very interesting review, as usual. I did love the movie but with all the non-stop action didn't notice the watch. I guess I'll just have to watch it again. I purchased a TAG F1 GMT, the Batman version, after your review of one a few years ago. Very happy with the brand.
Good morning TGV! I personally haven't seen The Gray Man yet, but I can't help but notice that Ryan Gosling has exceptionally good taste in wristwatches. And TAG Heuer has been doing a lot right again in recent years :-) Especially with the return to history and the classic models, TAG Heuer is stepping out of the shadow of the almighty Monaco. I find the Carrera line in particular very appealing and classy. Of course you are right, there is strong competition with Tudor and the BB36, although I almost consider the Carrera to be the better watch for all occasions. Best regards!
Ana is wearing a watch on nato throughout the move - but I can't make out what it is. Kind of looks like a pilot's or field watch. Would be very curious to know what it is. The movie was fantastic imo - dumb fun of the highest caliber.
I read the first book and watched the film. I think the character would wear something tactical and tough. A God-Tier Casio or for mechanical a blacked out Sinn 856 UTC. You want either Casio resin or Sinn tegimented steel with all the explosions and diving onto concrete and being hit by cars.
Ahoy hoy from the correct side of the pond, 😉. I am new to your channel and I am slowly working through the back catalogue. I absolutely loving the positive and informative shows covering every budget..and without the usual watch snobbery! Ive been lucky enough to own some very nice watches over the years, that have included 10s of Tags, but now I want to slim down my watch collection to 3 or 4 watches I will keep forever. And I want Tag to be one of them. So which one should I buy? Best and worst Tags? Best decade for Tag? You may already have that video about this so I will deep dive. Many thanks. Peace.
Just a question: Im looking at buying either: 39mm version or 41mm Twin-time but Im on the fence. Its my first 'luxury watch' so thats why I'm going for a day use yet classic design. The 39mm is £500 cheaper but is it too small? The 41mm equivalent has the date window at 3pm and I dont like that but the twin-time version is £500 but with the date window at 6 (like the 39mm). Will I really notice the difference between 39 and 41 enthuse very similar Carreras?
I might be way off here but Tag Heuer seems to be settling into being a brand that makes Rolex-meets-Omega watches at a lower price. This watch looks like a blend of the Aqua Terra and Datejust or OP. The new Aquaracer Professional looks like a blend of the Seamaster and a Submariner. Their Chronographs have a Daytona-meets-Speedmaster feel.
An eye catching reflective silver dial with slim hands is possibly the most likely watch to give away an assasin's whereabouts to a mark while being the most difficult to read the time in a pinch. So probably wouldn't be my first choice. But nice looking watch!
I enjoyed Chris Evans rocking a classy rectangular vintage Hamilton in The Grey Man. Goslings Tag reminded me of Keanu Reeves silver dialed Carl F Bucherer he wears in all the John Wick movies.
Love these watches in movies videos! Gosling is always great fun to see what he chooses to wear in his films and personal life (both wardrobe and watches)
I'll have a look at the movie, but I found myself not caring at all about that TAG. It's just.... well. Boring, really. And executed in a way that Citizen does better, not only with a The Citizen Chronomaster for the same money, but even with the silver leaf automatic they released at less than 1000 dollars. There we get some excitement for our money. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against TAG Heuer, but they've done the Carrera better, amongst others with the Cal 6 small seconds version in silver, blue and red. That was an engaging watch.
Tag amount watch enthusiasts is like Maserati with car collectors. Everyone knows about it, but no one really owns one. Great video as usual. I’m gonna watch that movie 👍🏼 Cheers 🥂
Watches in Movies: In the Movie "Nobody" of 2021 there is a legendary fight scene in a public bus between the main character (acted by Bob Odenkirk) and a group of punks. He is using his watch as brass knuckless. On reddit some people try to identify the watch. Even it's not clear yet what kind of watch he used, but this fist fight scene is something between cool and hilarious. Reminding on the famous fight scene in the narrow corridor of the korean movie "Old Boy". I'm curious if you could identify this watch. 😊
I am currently watching Liam Neeson's Taken trilogy and I am trying to figure out the watch he is wearing in Taken it sort of looks like this watch but I could not get a clear shot of it even though there is a good part of the plot in Taken 2 where the watch is very much part of the plot. Usually Neeson wears Casios.

One of the best watch brands indeed. Big fan of Tag
Back to the watch:
I saw the Carrera live and wow...what an elegant yet sporty and dynamic looking design and individual look.
I was so impressed to see such a watch in a world hommages of hommages of hommages.
I think this brand deserves much more respect.
The TH Autavia diver is the best looking watch out there, especially in person
Love this piece, and this piece by you 😉. I am getting this as my dress watch. Gosselin is the king of cool, he made this for me. I love everything about it.
You have made me love my sole Tag even more.
Another great production brother 👏
You forget to mention the Hamilton American Classic Boulton worn by Chris Evans, which for me was perfectly chosen considering his all round attire. A film I personally really enjoyed. A bit of a throwback to the 90’s action film which had me laughing quite a few times too!
Hey TGV, a weird one for you. I happened to watchspot Michael Douglas in Falling Down. Check the Fast Food Breakfast scene (when he arrives 1 min late), he's wearing a Lorus.
LOVE that movie!!!!!
Deffo going to buy it on blur-ray so I can check it out again.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
What is the lug width here? 20mm?
This a great looking watch although it does remind me of the King Seiko and for my small wrist and personal taste, I'd rather go for the KS. Great video.
Would love a review of the new 36mm Carrera :)
I think it’s perfect and it one of the few tags I’ve thought of adding over the years .
TGV, can you tell me old chap, what colour is your Nizza strap on the DH? The linked strap looks lighter and the stitching is also a different colour.
Of course! The strap is the same as in the link, my camera just made it look darker, it is a little light in real life.
I hope that helps.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Best regards,
TGV
I really enjoy this movie: IMHO, it didn't get the success it deserves:
Great Ryan Gosling performance, unusual Chis Evans character, and Amazing Ana de Armas (like in the Bond movie).
Now, I'm always hitting on pause to check the watches in any movie: I just can't help it. where is that coming from ?! 😏
Lovely watch. Top video TGV. God love Hugo! 🦖
Interesting video, nice watch and brilliant intro, great to have Hugo back 😎
I read the first book and watched the film. I think the character would wear something tactical and tough. A God-Tier Casio or for mechanical a blacked out Sinn 856 UTC. You want either Casio resin or Sinn tegimented steel with all the explosions and diving onto concrete and being hit by cars.
I like its style, subtle and understated. I like the 6 o'clock date position too. Great vid, TGV.
👏👏👏 Hear hear,
Thank you my friend,
Best regards,
TGV
Hugo is just hysterical...
Cool Seiko 5, how much did it run you?
Great review! Love the „IL CONFORMISTA“ poster in the back!
Very interesting observation, I must confess, I never noticed that, but now I see what you mean. Thank you my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
My first watch was the carrera sport chronograph 160 LE. It's kinda big (44mm). but it fits me well. Wish they made one in 40-42mm
This video helped me and affirmed my decision to pull the trigger on the Carrera Date :D
Really nice to see a Tag.
An eye catching reflective silver dial with slim hands is possibly the most likely watch to give away an assasin's whereabouts to a mark while being the most difficult to read the time in a pinch. So probably wouldn't be my first choice. But nice looking watch!
Nice City Views in the beginning!!! Thanks for the video!
I enjoyed Chris Evans rocking a classy rectangular vintage Hamilton in The Grey Man. Goslings Tag reminded me of Keanu Reeves silver dialed Carl F Bucherer he wears in all the John Wick movies.
I looked at that exact model with silver face and gator strap. It’s a beauty.
Perfect pre gym, happy place video. Thank you sir. 🙏
Tag amount watch enthusiasts is like Maserati with car collectors.
Everyone knows about it, but no one really owns one.
Great video as usual. I’m gonna watch that movie 👍🏼
Cheers 🥂
Over 1 million watch Tag Heuer watch buyers per year would disagree.
You truly entertain and inform.. Well done! I think Rex has an attitude though!

Watches in Movies:
In the Movie "Nobody" of 2021 there is a legendary fight scene in a public bus between the main character (acted by Bob Odenkirk) and a group of punks.
Deffo will look into it,
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I am currently watching Liam Neeson's Taken trilogy and I am trying to figure out the watch he is wearing in Taken it sort of looks like this watch but I could not get a clear shot of it even though there is a good part of the plot in Taken 2 where the watch is very much part of the plot. Usually Neeson wears Casios.
