IIRC, the audience was gathered by issuing an open, free invitation to all the residents of the fairly low socio-economic area surrounding the TV studio where this was to be filmed , which is how they got such a diversity of races, religions, ages, etc.
The rest were from a group of die-hard fans, mostly young girls, affectionately dubbed the 'Apple Scruffs' who used to hang around outside the Beatles' Apple Corps office building in the hopes of a glimpse and even at times a little conversation with their idols.. (The young lady sitting up close to Paul at the piano and gazing up at him may have been one of this group.)
The older gentleman looking very happy with the flowers in his hair was a homeless guy who they'd met while he was busking, and taken under their wing.
The recording was done over the course of several hours, with multiple retakes, thus what you see is, I think, an edit from all the assembled footage.
The performance was broadcast as part of a high-rating UK TV interview and entertainment show called the David Frost Show - that's DF in the blue suit introducing them, while they fool around at the beginning. :-)

The Beatles is the deepest well there is. There are some good Beatles docs on TH-cam that illuminate their journey from Liverpool, Hamburg and on out to the world.
I grew up in a rocky mountain town in Canada. My mom bought the first Beatles album that was sold in our town. It was the album hard days night. And it was the talk of the town that my mom bought that album LOL. The boys looked different, they sounded different, nobody was like them. But my mom was a musician and a forward thinking woman. She loves them still at 90.
They could do anything. They did everything. A lot of their music tells stories about characters like polythene Pam, Mean Mr Mustard, Eleanor Rigby, Maxwell, Rocky Racoon, The Sun King etc etc.
They completely revolutionized music. NOTHING was the same. The Beatles led, everyone else followed.

“In 1964, The Beatles produced an act of defiance which ultimately made a huge step toward fighting racial segregation. The band, with thousands of people waiting with bated breath, refused to play a show that had split the audience by race without their consent.
Showing their support for the US civil rights movement, the iconic Liverpool four-piece refused to perform to a segregated concert at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. As the pressure of The Beatles’ act of defiance threatened to boil over, officials at the concert eventually allowed the segregated audience to merge together.”
Upon entering the stage, John Lennon said: “We never play to segregated audiences and we aren’t going to start now.” I’d sooner lose our appearance money,” he added.
In 1964. These guys were real ones.

As an aside... their song "Blackbird" from the White Album was written as a reaction and in support of the Civil Rights Movement on the mid-60s. The music is influenced by Bach but the lyrics are for their support of Civil Rights. Because they were the biggest band of all time, their stand against segregation forced the end of segregated music concerts in the US.

What I like to point out to people is that this song is 55 years old and is still as fresh as if it came out yesterday. If you Really want to understand the phenomenon called the Beatles, the best way is to listen chronologically from the beginning of their musical career and follow the journey we had with them. You will get a far better understanding and an even better appreciation of the equivalent in today's time of being alive when Mozart or Bach were composing. Once in a century blessing for everyone.

    Hello, nice to see you
And congratulations for you first reaction to BEATLES songs
I'm a BEATLES fan for fifty years, I listen Them just after the end of the group And follow Yours solo careers
And enjoy with Paul McCartney in your last visit to my country Argentina two years ago
I look in your playlist that You reacts to some groups or bands, but don't do to ABBA songs
Now I ask you ... did you hear ABBA?
ABBA was a successful Swedish pop group between 1972/1982
    They was two couples:
    two man songwriters
    two woman singers
ABBA had more than 20 worldwide hits, included
    Mamma Mía
    Fernando
    Dancing Queen
    Take a chance on me
    Chiquitita
ABBA was famous when They won the Eurovision Song Contest in England 1974 between 17 songs of all Europe with your iconic "Waterloo"
ABBA in 70s, like BEATLES in 60s,
is a kind of the greatest músic that never dies
I hope that You included ABBA songs in your future reactions You can take each one of the list that I give

Since you're a newbie to the Beatles, consider doing them somewhat in chronological order. They changed a lot over time, and you can get a feel for the leaps in creativity they made over their career by listening to them more in the order they came out. It's especially important for this group, because what they were doing was so original, so mind-blowing, that it affected all the music and culture around them. For five years, music and culture followed the Beatles. Period.

This was the first time in years they were on TV. This song was inspired when John Lennon's Eldest Son Julian was upset over his parents impending divorce. Paul wrote it to cheer him up originally called "Hey Jules" but it became "Hey Jude", Paul didn't want to release it but when John & Yoko Ono heard it, they loved it, they released it in August 1968, and it made History by being one of the first Songs in Music at that time that went over the 3 1/2 Minute Mark, no other Song did that with the exception of "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys, and Papa Was A Rolling Stone By The Temptations. They bought the house down.

Paul wrote Hey Jude for John's son Julian (who was often called Jude) when John and his first wife were going through a divorce. This song spent a remarkable 9 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. All the goofing around prior to when Paul starts singing the song with the words "Hey Jude..." was just them being goofballs. This was the biggest hit single they ever released. At the time of its release, the song's length of 7:11 was one of the longest ever sent to Top 40 radio, back when the format was more accustomed to playing singles that were 3 minutes or less. But the song was so popular, they had no choice but to play it.

Paul McCartney wrote this as "Hey Jules," a song meant to comfort John Lennon's 5-year-old son Julian as his parents were getting a divorce. The change to "Jude" was inspired by the character "Jud" in the musical (McCartney loves show tunes) In 1987 Julian ran into Paul in New York City when they were staying at the same hotel and he finally heard Paul tell him the story of the song firsthand. He admitted to Paul that growing up, he'd always felt closer to him than to his own father. In Steve Turner's book , Julian said: "Paul told me he'd been thinking about my circumstances, about what I was going through and what I'd have to go through. Paul and I used to hang out quite a bit - more than Dad and I did... There seem to be far more pictures of me and Paul playing at that age than me and Dad. I've never really wanted to know the truth of how Dad was and how he was with me. There was some very negative stuff - like when he said that I'd come out of a whisky bottle on a Saturday night. That's tough to deal with. You think, where's the love in that? It surprises me whenever I hear the song. It's strange to think someone has written a song about you. It still touches me." The Muppets did a parody of this (and tribute to healthy eating) called "Hey Food."

I also think about many of the things you mentioned in your comment about Julian Lennon. I think it's sad Paul wrote a song about John's son and he didn't. I remember John saying in an interview that he felt the song was also a message to him and about him. Personally I would have felt some embarrassment if I was John realizing someone else thought more about what my son was going through than I did.

@@dubzer0649 I suggest a different approach. Their early stuff sounds so antiquated now, whereas their later stuff has a more timeless quality (or in some cases still sounds daring). Go with the later classics and then eventually get to the early stuff to be wowed by how much they developed in so short a time. Start with songs like Let It Be, A Day in the Life, Come Together, Something, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, Yesterday (early but the most covered song of all time by any artist), While My Guitar Gently Weeps ... And you can get into the cool later stuff that wasn’t a hit but everyone thinks is cool, like Tomorrow Never Knows, I Am the Walrus, Helter Skelter, I Want You (She’s So Heavy). Somewhere in there you can do early stuff like I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You for comparison - it’s joyful and great - but get a sense of their timeless stuff first.

Maybe this will sound strange, but in 1963 the Beatles entered my life. To see Paul’s young face beautifully singing this song, and then to see John and George who are no longer in this world, and Ringo who we also still have with us, I am just so grateful for all they have given to the world and all they have given to me. The music has gotten me through many difficult times; it’s made me happy, it’s made me sad, it’s given me strength. And now as I’m inching closer to 70 years old, they are still a big part of my life. I am so glad to see the younger generation discovering the magic of these four young lads from Liverpool who changed the world forever. I was blessed to have been a part of it from the beginning. Again, it may sound sappy and people may wonder how a band could be so important in somebody’s life, but I guess that’s what Beatlemania is. 🤗. Thank you John, George, Paul, and Ringo. 🥰

That is the legendary Sir Paul McCartney at the piano. Check out Paul & Michael Jackson in their song together "Say, Say, Say" together. It's quite an honor to have Paul sing with you - even for MJ.

Now that you know that heartbreaking fact, please add his iconic song "Imagine" to your list. It's such a beautiful song, Karltin.
