I’ve always loved the Macan so I’m not surprised that I like the EV version as well. It’s a little pricey, but when have Porsches been cheap? It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the gas Macan as I think it’s going to end up sticking around a lot longer than Porsche thought.

Agreed - I think it'll be the perfect daily. Love that it maintains physical controls. And yes, Porsche has announced they will continue selling the ICE Macan for longer, particularly in the US.
On the price front, it'll make a fantastic used buy given EV depreciation curves right now. I bet there will be good lease deals on ~2 years too (EV oversupply = discounting, +$7500 tax credit).

I think that the current issues with electric cars are not going to be solved for years, especially for those of us that like to travel with our cars. So yes Porsche should definitely update the ICE version of the Macan. They also need to put Android Auto in their base vehicles (Macan, Cayman/Boxster)...it's ridiculous that this has not yet been done and part of why I bought a BMW X3 M40i instead of a Macan S recently, along with BMW having more standard amenities, along with much, much more affordable options.

    • @The_Stanman
      @The_Stanman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Unfortunately, vehicle development timelines are so long they almost certainly won't develop a new ICE gen, especially bc current one still sells so well. OEMs are global, and US is somewhat unique in our slower EV transition. No business case for a new ICE gen that would sell globally from ~2030 - 2037, as it wouldn't do well in China and EU.

I think the car looks wonderful like you would expect from Porsche. Unfortunately I think there will be hesitation in purchasing this since it will not adopt the NACS charging standard for the time being. The biggest issue with most electric vehicles is that the independent charging networks are not up to par. Since Tesla is opening their network and they are the gold standard (at this time) something like this will delay adoption.

I can understand Porsche's decision to go fully electric with the Macan. However, the lower seating position is puzzling to me. Nevertheless, it seems that the transition to electric vehicles won't be as rapid as we thought a year ago. Perhaps Porsche will find a way to continue producing the current model with updated electronics for a few more years.

Porsche is smart to follow the market and continue to develop the product for the market. EV’s are certainly part of personal choices but at what scale is yet to be seen. Thank goodness they didn’t do what Toyota did which is make such an undesirable product so they could just keep it as a token that they did their part and pretend EV’s are not acceptable when in fact, they made a very undesirable product with wheels falling off. Porsche has gone out of their way to minimize the weight impact which, if adopted to the ice version would revolutionize their lineup. I know you put a pin in it but you’ll see. 10:31

@MotoManTV Have you heard of LENR Low Energy Nuclear Reactions? The Thunderbolt Generator is an air inlet and exhaust integration retrofit which transmutes carbon into oxygen. Effectively, the carbon in the fuel is not returned into the athmosphere. No plant food coming out, or very little of it. Another LENR setup has already passed per review in Nature journal.
If it can be scaled to a car, it might render all carbon restriction invalid. It was always about the carbon from the EXHAUST, not the mining and supply chain, right? Well, this retrofit looks to remove the carbon exhuast, as well as improve mileage. I'm here for it. Mostly due to the freedom aspects and overal car weight. That said, I do like me a silent EV that can keep A/C on overnight and power an over for home cooked goodness on the road. I feel ICE engineers have been lazy for way too long. Brands like Koenigsegg on a small budget keep showing up the reas tof the world, even with gearboxes. The EVs most brands are producing now 12 years after the original Model S are just blatantly lazy designs. Porsche might be an exception. Not offering their best effort, but still doing better than most.

A few observations. Until the number of EV charging stations across the country equal or surpass the number of petrol stations, EVs will remain a niche product. Moreover, the number of charging ports at each station would have to be two to three times the size of a petrol station because of charging times in conjunction with volumes each station would need to accommodate. The size requirements of charging stations would almost certainly make them impractical. We have to also consider that there seems to be little willingness to improve the output of the power grid whose demand from wider EV adoption could only be bridged with high energy density fuel sources like nuclear. Renewable energy like wind and solar are simply not cutting it and aren’t reliable enough. If you own your home and have to commute to work a finite distance then that’s the only use case an EV is practical but if it’s your only vehicle, it’s just a poor use of funds.

As a Porsche owner, I can say that the likelihood will be high that one will be able to spec a Vegan option . . . only catch: It's going to cost you.

The exterior design of the new Macan is very disappointing. It has curves in all the wrong places. The petrol Macan is far better looking.

That's subjective. I think there will be more cars looking like this in the future as EVs become more ubiquitous.

@@jays9211 if it looks more aggressive (a statement I disagree with), that’s likely coincidental as the EV design process is driven by air coefficient considerations above looks. Unfortunately, the EV Macan is heading towards a Tesla model Y in appearance.

agreed, the design of this is just "meh" but I suspect this is deliberate by virtue of this being a Gen-1 design and the inter-related business issue of Product Planning...
(see entry for "Holdback") because you can bet a more exciting/attractive design exists (in CAD) but see they're not going to give greedy and insatiable consumers all that NOW, because then it begs the question what would they have to give you 4 and 8 years from NOW...? 😅
unbeknownst (despite appearances) the Auto Industry doesn't wait to just pull "rabbits out of hats" at the last minute, no, Vehicle Design Evolutions are mapped out 10 to 20 years in advance...
yeah everyone saw this dynamic playout (well everyone paying attention that is) leading up to the release of the mid-engine C8 Corvette in 2020. so what GM basically did was string everybody along (by the nose) for the last 50 years by NOT building the car, but instead by building 3 different prototypes, and it worked.
