Great video Dale with sage advice! I started trapping at the age of 8 and I’m still on the beaver & otter line at 77. I use to sell to local buyers for many years but I saw too much of the ”good ol boy” BS dealing with local buyers. When I sell fur I believe in a fair $$ for my fur, not who knows me or blows me so just give me a number and offer what my “fur” is worth not about me, my name, or me being a friend of a friend!! That is why I’ve shipped my fur for years and will continue to do so as long as keep trapping. As far as putting up fur, people today don’t seem to want to take the time. They like the trapping & killing and the “barn shots” and “driveway shots” but no time to work their fur. This was a long over do video so thanks for taking the time!
Seldom Fales I appreciate you. I agree with everything you said too. Thank you
😂 ur introduction sold me great job man great channel
Thank you Jorge. I appreciate you watching too
Dale thank you for making this segment on selling your furs. Your spot on with sound advice. I cant count the number of times that the Kansas fur trapper did great selling at our state fur auction. When the buyers know that your putting up furs right then they will in turn pay you for your time spent in the fur shed. Dale do a TH-cam segment on properly drying and keeping your pelts presentable for the selling experience whether you chose to sell locally or in Canada. I cant count the number of times that I've seen young trappers or houndsmen come into the fur buyer behind me and watched me get a good fur check payout only to have their fur graded less because of dirty presentation or improper skinning and fleshing. My local buyer takes the time to show you what he likes to see in skinning and fleshing or presentation, but only if your willing to want to learn. ✌️
Jweir I'll try to do that once season opens. I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video. Thank you
I enjoy handling fur, the scraping and boarding process is relaxing.
The fur shed is my fortress of solitude Doug. Thank you for watching
Very well said that's hard part
Yes it is. Thank you for watching Robert
Know your count before handing over your fur. Last buyer tried to short me 12 beaver hides. On purpose,
That's right Kevin. Know your count and have a price in your head before you ever get there. Thank you for watching
Half the interest and pride in trapping is seeing your scraping/handling skill once you take it off the board or stretcher.
That's absolutely right Heath. Thank you for watching
Good advice brother
Thank you Catfish Burch. I appreciate you watching too
It is just like fixing a flat tire. Do it yourself or you will have to pay to have it fixed. Thanks Dale.
That's a great analogy Tim. Thank you.
I agree with you. If you don't like the price go somewhere else. I had a similar problem. But he wanted to trade for other things which I did great on 😊
The barter system works Rhonda. Thank you for watching
That's an awesome thumbnail. Have you sold to fur buyers overseas?
I've never sold direct to overseas buyers bmxdude. I don't have an import/export license.
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 a license to export/import...dear Lord....another way to impede our freedom. Anyways, keep up the good work and free education
@bmxdude1337 yes sir you have to have a license to import export wildlife especially. Thank you for watching
What did he say you could put on it to keep the bugs out?
7 dust Gabriel.
Very good advice, I hope the younger guys are watching!!
I hope so too PopPop. Thank you
Thank you for your time Dale very informative 👍
Thank you Coyote Whacker.
If you wouldn’t mind making a video about it one of these days I’d like to know more about the seven dust method of storing furs. I appreciate all of your videos.
I'll see what I can do Iowa self bow. Thank you for watching
Very true
Thank you Christopher
Great advice. I always like your upfront way of putting things.
I can skin those hides but, need to start scraping and processing. Thanks Dale
Thank you Rodney. I try to not sugar coat things. I appreciate you watching
Well said, also you can take pride in being able to put up top quality fur that shines at auction.I've had a couple top lots at state auctions and it does feel good.Good luck with beaver season!
That is 💯 right Mike. No better feeling than having a buyer tell you that you have the best looking fur they've seen all year. Thank you. And thank you for watching
Amen brother!! Well said!!! 👍
Thank you Ken.
Nice info Dale. On the sevin dust on skin side or fur side? I think I might have to try this on these southern raccoons
Skin side of stretched that way John like coon. Fur side of done that way like fox. Thank you for watching
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 thanks for the help Dale learn something new everyday. Who says you can not teach an old dog new tricks
@johnhawn buddy the day we quit learning is the day we should just quit period!!! Thank you for watching
Up here in northern Minnesota l am lucky to have a good honest local buyer. I turn 72 in 2 days and now only trap beaver. I sell green because I am at the point where I like catching but not fleshing. To each his own I guess. Your videos are always worth listening to, keep them coming
@johnnelson5659 thank you John. I wasn't saying that everything or everyone has to flesh and stretch their fur. I understand not everyone has the facility or the capability to do it. My biggest point was for folks to understand it's not the fur buyer beating them, it's them beating themselves
You nailed it . Where I came from the state . That if you want to trap and sell your furs , you need to put up your own furs otherwise you can not sell it. I see after move out here many do not want to put up their own furs. Also they think like what you said many dose . They do not check around to sell and before the start to trap. Then come up with stories like you said . Glad you put this out.
Thank you Paul. I appreciate you watching too
I seen it this weekend .................. I got my stuff tagged and put it back in the truck like I always do !
You're allowed to do that too Otter Cat. More need to learn that it's ok to take it with you
I totally agree with you Dale! Thank you for sharing my friend!
I appreciate you taking the time to watch Mark. Thank you
Well said Dale ,thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching Don.
Excellent advice Dale, a little extra work can pay big dividends in the end.
Dang sure can Ron. Thank you for watching
Hey Mr billingsley, I have had trail cams up and for some reason I am having bobcats walk past my sets and not even acknowledge them. Any reason why?
Could be a few reasons Slippery Ace. Could be the wind is wrong for the set? Remember you want the lure smell blowing across their line of travel, not away from it. Could be the set isn't flashy or showy enough to get their attention. Cats are curious, use that to your advantage to catch them. Are your sets too far away from their line of travel? Cats don't like to go out of their way very far unless you have something they really want. Last , if all other things are right? It could just be a cat being a cat. I hope this helps you some
Thank you sir. This definitely helps
Slippery Ace I'm glad to hear that.
I have always put up my own fur, I really enjoy doing it.
I enjoy handling fur myself Daniel. I appreciate you watching
Good advice. I started making products to sell and give to landowners who let me trap.
I don’t think coyote values ever coming back but trappers are innovative.
That's right Shadrach. Alternative markets are always good
Very true story guys
Thank you for watching Brian
Well said Dale , many years ago a old fellow told me that when you walk up to the animal in your trap, that animal at its best is only worth X. Now its up to the trapper to handle that pelt the best way possible in order for you to receive X. If you dont its no ones fault but yours.
Take care Grand Pa ! Hope the Mother and baby are doing well.
Thank you Mike. You're absolutely right. Everyone is doing great pal. Thank you
Great video Dale. Maybe we need to do a video or class on putting up fur. I have a lot of people that just have no idea how

I do too Ty. Thank you for watching. I appreciate you
Good information 👍
Thank you for watching Paul
I skinned fleshed and dried the fur I sold. I didn't like the price I got. I sold to a fur buyer. I trap locally on my place and the river in front of me and on the other side of the river. I have never tried holding on to my fur. l didn't know it would last. Maybe you can do a video talk about how to keep fur. What do you do with it? Hold it till the next winter? What about the tags on cats and otters is it legal to hold them? I never thought about holding them.
Check the laws in your state Wetzels. Most allow you to hold fur over.
