    This is all so helpful!!! As an international student post grad, did you find it hard to meet people while in this kind of student accommodation at Griffon Studios? How did you meet people in your first year?

    London can be really hard to find accommodation that isn't massively expensive. A lot depends on the location but also your landlord, always make sure you walk around where you think you might want to live and if you abroad ask for a video tour via skype, etc so that they can show you around and you can ask any questions!

    I thought about it but I found most of student accommodations quite expensive in London. That is why I decided to find a room doing my own research and I found a very cheap en-suite eventually. The only down side of this is that my flatmates are foreigners but not students so there's not much in common with me and them, not much to talk about.

    I’m sorry but how does anyone afford £8k a year for accommodation isn’t that best part of the maintenance loan... how are you meant to eat if you don’t have parents like that’s just plain greedy - London swiped off my list my current home is £400 a month ok no WiFi but that’s why a library is for and is private rented so they are basically charging you nearly mortgage prices a month...

    • @atousa5752
      @atousa5752  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah it isn't great is it ): unfortunately it is even worse in london, but I think the uni accommodations try to provide cheaper rooms so at least that's better than nothing ):

    • @Justastranger11
      @Justastranger11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait don’t the government give you like a £12,000 maintenance loan? So you can find a property for like £900 a month or less in London.

    • @dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb
      @dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Justastranger11 maintenance loan has to pay for accommodation for food for medication for your books laptops travel clothing dentist glasses it has to pay for everything
      £900 a month lol that’s like for a mature student not going home for summer £10,800 a year then there’s travel there’s lab coats and shoes and shit. The maintenance loan is £9488 so a £900 accommodation puts you more than £1000 deficit and that’s this year until next year.
      Don’t know where you got £12k when atousa isn’t in London London is £12300 and elsewhere is £9448
      How you paying for food when you’re in London leaves £1500
      That’s £30 a week for food jo clothes no medication ie paracetamol ibtuprogen no dental treatment no eye glasses no new underwear for 5-6 years holy socks aren’t being replaced
      £900 is not realistic
      And the government don’t give you the money you pay it back.
      Also not everybody is eligible for a maintenance loan and mature students haven’t got A home to go to for the summer holidays they still have to pay (they don’t get extra money) they don’t get anyone helping with food or anything like that.
      £30 a week for a good diet food clothes dentist HYGIENE PRODUCTS - tampons or period pads liners etc are a good £10 a month on their own. Socks clinical year smart wear stethoscope coats knee hammers blood pressure monitors osce preparation question banks past papers the sJT - £12k doesn’t begin to cover it if you’re paying £900 rent

    • @Justastranger11
      @Justastranger11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb yeah I can agree with you on that. But I was just thinking of rent only. Not for food etc as my plan was to work part time as modelling and in a retail shop as well as family helps me out a bit. But I understand what you mean London is very expensive. But its good that the government are willing to help us out either way as if they didn’t then we’d all struggle to even get a place. It’s mainly central London that costs a fortune. Other areas of London are quite cheap. You can get a studio flat for around £180 a week which isn’t bad just have to keep searching and searching for deals. But it’s my favourite city and wouldn’t want to be elsewhere but it is ridiculously expensive. I haven’t even thought of going to uni until now and haven’t thought about all the extra things you got to pay for as I’m use to family helping, but I’m sure the dentist is free. And if you shop at lidl then you’d only be spending like £30-40 a week on food/toiletries. Underwear and socks are quite cheap. Etc if you have a job part time then you’d be okay. But living off £12,300 a year for rent food and other things is stretching it either way. It’s not living it’s surviving. I just see that as rent money and the extra bit left to help out. Also just to add the 900 was an example of a studio flat. You can probably get a room with roommates for less than £200 but I opt out on that one and would rather pay extra to have my own kitchen and toilet.

    • @dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb
      @dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Justastranger11 yes I see your point. I’m 32 and lived independently for the past 13 years so I guess i factor that in automatically I think also given online lectures etc laptops are going to be needed some people don’t already have them and then there’s resources like notepads and papers folders or iPads (I use an iPad Pro but not everyone has worked for a decade to save) again a part time job is possible but the student loan alone without a job and parents is a stretch if you have to factor in stationery and folders and books and q banks and opticians and technology and printing etc.
      That was just my point that the government do help and it’s a life line for many of us me included but it isn’t really enough and when it comes to clinical years that may be more difficult to work

    • @Maria9-h8i
      @Maria9-h8i 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, some universities will ask for interviews. I had interview days in Manchester and Leeds but they're nowhere near as difficult as med school interviews. They're literally a chill conversation with an academic and if you have an interview you've basically got the place.

    • @dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb
      @dreaming_of_that_mbbs_mbchb 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ReallyMaria I’ve heard people say similar but thought I’d ask people who actually know... I am applying for med but biomed for a backup as that stands in good stead for GEM which hopefully won’t be necessary thank you

    • @atousa5752
      @atousa5752  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As people have said, some Uni's do have interviews but they are more of an informal chat to see what you are like, nothing to worry about! I had one for Manchester too and they were basically just asking about my day and how I found my A-levels etc. haha :)
