It’s hard to be humble when you’re as great as I am. I was like 16 when my sister gave me that plaque. It has been a constant reminder of of how she felt about me. That is and has been very humbling to me all these years later. I am now 57
It is not possible to listen to these words and not recognize Ezra Taft Benson as a prophet of God. This timeless message is among the greatest sermons in Church history.
It is not possible for me to hear this glorious talk too many times. It never fails to point me toward a higher, holier plane of thought, understanding, duty, and action. How marvelous these principals are! Thank You President Hinckley and President Benson.
After much searching, my aunt offered this talk to my counsel. God has called with this talk and I will be baptized and join the LDS church. I feel so fortunate and loved. All things through Christ.
Listening to this talk and thinking of the phrase that the world uses, "Pride month". It is very enlightening and makes so much more sense. Truth is truth.
I didnt even realize how bad pride was or even the many difrent faces of pride this video is life changing i dont wanna be that person anymore. I give thanks to our Lord heavenly Father for revealing this to me and many other things i am doing wrong and for the mighty changes of heart still the start of a new journey and many challendges ahead as for me amd my house we will serve the lord.Amen
Elements vs. the central feature - emnity towards God We pit our will against God. Wow, when understood in this context, my sin is great. Im such a prideful person I need to be reminded frequently, and I come back to this talk.
I must agree. I thought of myself as a Loser most of my life. The principles in this talk if followed can lift you up or humble you depending on the corrections you need in your life.
I don’t know why President Benson chose to have President Hinckley read the talk, but the vicarious reading has a profound effect for me, as if to say that this talk was written for no man’s glory, but instead for us to learn the will of God.
I think president Benson might have been in his latter years were his helth was taught for him to speak and later he was not always going to be attending General conference
The month of June is “Beware of Pride Month”! The perfect time to consume this critical talk from our beloved President Bensen. So wonderful to hear from two amazing prophets again.
I must agree with the heart-felt comments. I thought of myself as a Loser most of my life. The principles in this talk if followed can lift you up or humble you depending on the corrections you need in your life. I've found this prophetic warning useful whether I need a boost out of lies that I have no value, or if I need my "wings clipped" when I start taking for granted the huge (I mean HUGE) blessings in my life instead of giving daily thanks. Here's a HUGE thanks to all who heed the prophet's voice and elevate The Team so we are successful in the playoffs as we approach The Second Coming...
I absolutely love Pres Benson and Pres Hinckley! Humility to God has led me to understand how life is full of joy and hope even in troubled times! Pride leads to misery ALWAYS!
In the last few days I have studied this and listened to this talk multiple times. Powerful and true. At first I was convicted by this in every sentence. I was so convinced that I felt a need to speak to my Bishop for council. I must say that I am resolved to repent of this sin as it has been the root to my unhappiness for years. I ponder all of the sadness that this sin has caused and how much sadness I have caused, but true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, there is a way to correct this great evil. Thank You President Benson for having the inspiration for this talk. A true voice from the dust that resonates throughout eternity. God bless us all that we might repent of this and may the Saviors love replace this sin of pride.
When I feel I’m out of step. I listen to this talk and feel the need to humble myself and be more child like. President Benson delivered so many wonderful talks on several subjects that are very relevant in 2021.
Written more than 30 yrs ago & he described what happened in the "summer of love 2020". Gentle reader, God bless you, Jesus and an invisible network of angelic & celestial beings surround you, guide you & protect you. In Jesus Holy Name, Amen!
Further proof that Gordon B. Hinckley was and still is a prophet. I am going to listen to this talk until it is embedded in my heart, mind and soul. Lots of work to align my will to Heavenly Father's will. Grateful beyond words for this amazing man, and God's love in allowing us to hear this inspired message.
Ernest Hemple He truly was a wonderful man and prophet. A reminder, however, that this talk was not Gordon B. Hinckley's, but President Ezra Taft Benson's. Because of President Benson's health, he asked that President Hinckley read it for him. This is mentioned at the very beginning at :05 and restated at :29 by President Hinckley. Regardless, both are remarkable men, and truly prophets of the Lord. A talk to take to heart and remember as much today as ever. :)
Remember our beloved prophet Ezra Taft Benson wrote it he was ill but there and he asked our beloved prophet hinckley to speak for him. I loved them both and still do
"Pride says: if you succeed - I will fail" - pure true. This talk is one of the greatest, so helpful, mind-opening knowledge. I wish to remember this talk and never forget it. I love President Hinckley!
One of the best talks ever given by a Prophet of God. Pride is the root cause of all other sins. I need to always be reminded of this sin as it is the cause of most of my problems.
Whoa, I've read this talk a million times (I was 5 when it was delivered), but didn't realize that Gordon B Hinckley actually delivered it on President Benson's behalf.
I have been praying to know how I can be more truthful with my repentance. I love this precious message and I’m thankful for these timeless holy truths which have the power to search many corners of my heart for understanding even the smallest enmity I’ve been harbouring towards others. I can continue in repentance it is a joyful relief Johanna
What a masterful discourse on what pride is. I have fond memories of President Ezra Taft Benson as when I joined the Church he was the prophet. Likewise President Hinckley. He was the ever present rock of the first presidency as a counsellor and being a great voice of the Church.
This is so rich and wise and true. I believe and witness this discourse to be of God and very revealing! May we examine ourselves carefully with the standards here given!
This is an amazing talk. It brings awareness of the various forms of pride. None of us are immune, and we would do well to find where we are prideful in our lives and coose to humble ourselves.
This is from the April 1989 Conference - 31 Years ago. When you see the tone and tenor of the political conversation in this country it does not speak well of progress in this area.
I have heard this talk many times. This is the first time I listened. I see what my problem is now. What an amazingly inspired talk by President Benson.
I listen to and read this talk written by Ezra Taft Benson often. The antithesis of pride is humility. Humility to me is the key to exaltation. Personally I don't believe a greater discourse has ever been given in a conference address.
I love the late President Gordon B. Hinkley. Thank for the reminder of pride. As we all know, as of late the church has mildly excepted the “pride “ community. I feel this is in reference to the leadership of the church. My interpretation. Rest in Peace. Your words are always appreciated. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I so much appreciate this talk. I need to be reminded of this constantly, and this talk hits everything right where it needs to be for me. So thankful for our prophets!
There are 2 churches only, the Church of the Lamb and the Church of the Devil, or the humble vs the proud. I see how pride has affected many areas of my life and I am truly working to repent of it. This is more than a talk. It is the mind and will of the Lord, as spoken through His Prophet. It is scripture and we will do well to hearken to it's counsels.
Love this talk. It has definitely helped me take a more introspective view of myself. I think I first read this talk when introduced to it by Elder Goodman.
Studying my Book of Mormon. I was wondering about Zenif and how he was described on many occassions as being overzealous. So did a search to understand what they meant by this and this is the first talk that pops up. Now, I realize I too could have been or still be a Zenif.
Sometimes we resent others for putting us down…sometimes we blame the Lord for not stopping someone from doing us harm…what is the key to getting away from this? And even more….when will it stop? A person can only take so much.
I now recognize the root of all my problems - I'm prideful. Such a great talk. I recognize what I need to do to change.
me too, and I thought I was humble.
@@EMonzon me too, but knew I wasn't. Its been a struggle for me before God. It keeps me off my knees.
It is the universal sin. We all have it and it is a constant battle to keep it at bay. And how do we combat it? We develop and nurture Charity.

So brave. 😮
This is a timeless talk in Church history that every member should be familiar with and study.
It’s so sad that Pride can destroyed everything even beautiful families. I hope people can reconsider to be more humble to each other.

I miss President Hinckley! What a great example of humility. A great reminder that pride can exist everywhere. Even from the "bottom looking up".
Well that was a wake up call. May I be humble and meek to avoid the pitfalls of pride. President Benson was truly a Prophet of God.

How is the process going Justin? What helped you to realize this Sin? What are some antidotes you have used for this 🤔 adjustment?
When I was 8 years old I asked to shake the hand of president. Mom replied with a letter to me after his death. So…. Yeah it’s on me as I write.
