Am a new bee keeper and am very appreciative of the wisdom from the FatBeeMan. With the demise of the company that produced Fumagillin B (their supplier stopped producing essential ingredients) I felt fortunate to acquire possibly one of the last bottles available. Still needed to find a substitute. Used the required 1/2 rounded tablespoon Fumagillin B per gallon, but added 1 tablespoon per gallon of Honey B Healthy (label lists sucrose, water, spearmint, lemongrass oil and Lecithin). I used much less of the Honey B Healthy than the prescribed 4-8 teaspoons per gallon (3 tsp = 1 tbs). Not only is Fumagillin B becoming very unavailable (as of October 2018), but there are reports of cheaper, bootleg counterfeit Fumagillin B out there. My bees do seem to be recovering, and think the essential oils in Honey B Healthy has a lot to do with it. I personally use tea tree oil, not only topically, but also it is in my shampoo (Private Reserve Shampoo Tea Tree). I see that The Fat Beeman prescribes 1/2 tsp (10-15 drops) of tea tree oil per gallon of near 2:1 syrup. Look forward to using tea tree oil in my syrup mix in the future. Thanks Mr. FatBeeMan.
Your the best don...I have learned more and gained more confidence from you than any other resource.I need your alternatives or beekeeping would be so unaffordable...and overwhelming in cost...your common sense approach is absolutely precious....this season will be the best Yet! Thankyou thankyou
If I understood well it's a 1:1 water to sugar mixture and you just add 10 drops of tea tree oil (can you kindly confirm). That's why I like the FATBEEMAN he uses natural and organic stuff. There so cheap.....Thanks for all your help
I acidentally gave them quite a bit more tea tree oil in their sugar water. What I found though was no more crawling bees. I don't know what they had that made them do that but it stopped. Instead, I noticed quite a few black bees now. I hope I didn't create another problem while fixing one thing. I haven't found any new dead bees in the last few days since I gave them the tea tree oil treatment so that must be good.
Conrad In Ohio and also want to know how you made the wire intrance. ID LIKE TO SHARE a trick i use to seal the feeder from leakage. buy some liquid spray rubber and coat the cracks and bottom.
Don, Great videos..I like your approach to hive management. Can you tell me how much Tea Tree Oil you use per gallon of sugar water for treatment of nosema? Thanks, Larry
Don, I am putting a new management program together for my apiaries. I.m going to be using many of your ideas in one location. If it works well for two seasons I'm going to use it on my other apiaries. Who would have thought of tea tree oil.
Thanks. I'm going to try this out today. BTW I've looked everywhere for the boric acid powder. Can you recommended a brand and a online store to buy. Thanks!
What style of nosema are we treating and how was it diganosed? Some shake a stick and call it a treatment but what results are shown. Similar to swarms on a tree branch already getting treatment from the oil it landed on. See I try to understand what your telling me understand stupid is not taught.
Hi Don, Love your videos. I'm new to beekeeping this year and I forgot to give my bees Nosema treatment this fall. I live in Gloucester, MA, about 45 minutes north of Boston and we're past the sugar syrup feeding for a few weeks; however, we are getting a warm spell for about 5 days, 60 degrees in the daytime, high 40's at night. Can I give them a small amount of sugar syrup with your tea tree oil formula before the cold sets in? Or what other alternative do I have if that method is not possible? Has anyone ever thought of mixing tea tree oil formula in with fondant as a Nosema treatment? I'm just really worried now after I made this mistake. Your reply is appreciated. Thank you Alicia
So with the 1/2 tsp added to the gallon 1-1 sugar syrup you just mix it straight in the syrup? Does it mix through ok ? So don't need to make a concentrate up in blender? If we do what is the mix for that? Thanks
