It took me a while to realize that Helvetica also appears on music a lot, e.g.: I associate Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold with the British rock band Placebo, because it appeared a lot on their album covers, thus their "logo" is kinda of this font

Besides the different weights of each Helvetica version we also have condensed versions, which can appreciably alter the visual character and personality of actual applications.
I think I favor those alternatives because the tighter width often has a certain elegance missing in the standard width.

I mean material design is just a big fail. San Francisco is basically even a stronger copy of Helvetica than Arial. The same is true for CNN typeface. Let‘s say Helvetica is maybe not that often used anymore but it will life on in its copies.
