- At its core, the concept of making space in Overwatch is the idea of zoning out the enemy and establishing pseudo areas of control for your team. This effect can be accomplished with a myriad of heroes to help advance your team towards victory.
When done correctly you can control the tempo of the game and force your enemy to make disadvantageous desperation plays in an attempt to break the zoning pressure exerted by your team whether it be escorting a payload to defending chokes on select maps.

I didn't feel like that was Jaynes intention at all. It opens the box to new ideas. You can watch both and synthesize your own idea of what space is and how to create it. I don't think either party believes their video is the undisputed authority on what space is.
He isn’t washed up since he coaches in the Overwatch league and has over 200k subs. Also, I’d say he has a very good knowledge of the game that has helped me improve my play.

Ok what i can understand as making space is creat resources for your team in more compicated ways than healing them for example, resources like time, fiscical space, or information

As a Ball main, I love the feeling when I create chaos in the enemy teams, when they start hating me so much they even ignore the rest of my team, when the enemy Rein abandons their team and starts following me out of pure rage.

How you see making space: going aggressive to occupy enemies so the rest of your team can follow up
How i see it: an excuse for my feeding
Making space doesn’t mean being aggressive, you can make space extremely slowly and passively.

D.Va is a good hero to make space. She can try some crossfire on the enemy team, can put pressure and protect Winston on dive.

Doomfist should’ve been one of the flankers
If you think about it though, his basic movement is very slow, and he relies about 85% on his cooldowns. Meanwhile, Genji is able to double jump and climb walls(no cd), tracer is smaller and harder to spot, as well as faster CDs. Also, Sombra is just a very flanky character, being able to be invisible and teleport out of trouble. Doomfist, compared to these, has quite a large hitbox, and is pretty bulky(how ever, if you play him just right, he possibly could be a flanker, though I think it's not worth it that much...) (Also I like playing devil's advocate so please don't feel offended 👍)

I feel like Moira could have been included in the spam category. Moira isn’t being played much at higher levels because of her lack of utility but something she doesn’t get enough credit for is her ability to constantly pressure damage on the enemy team. With her infinite ammo primary fire and piercing orbs, not to mention her ultimate. Moira can create a lot of space for her team.

So the more I thought about it as a Sombra main. Could you argue that instead of making space she takes it away? For example the enemy is all huddled behind a Rein barrier. She hacks him and now they have little space to work around. Does this count as denying space?

Levi Williams bad dps mains being mad and bad. Granted there are bad tanks and supports too, but I’ve never seen a dps admit they’re not performing well ever.
If making space only means holding shield and waking forward, what is the difference between top500 rein and all other ranks tanks? The way how u avoid damage and give enemies pressure determine how much space u can make for teammates. If u just walk, u definitely make space due to good luck and feed due to bad luck

I don’t see the “exerting pressure” heroes as space makers. I see them as heroes that take advantage of open space
That open space is space that they dent for the enemy’s and therefore creating negative space for the opponents
I see it more as keeping space, your keeping space by spam damaging an area so a team won’t go there.

I am a high level competitive tf2 player, and I know a LOT about team oriented class based shooters. OW is a bit different than TF2, but also very similar. I placed gold and plat my first season of comp in S19, but it drives me absolutely NUTS that people don't know that one of the tanks main jobs is create space, or what flanking is, or how to move around when they give us space. OR THEY DON'T USE THEIR MICS.

This is how you take space, but how do you prevent the enemy from making space?
The example he uses for rein is completely wrong in this video. Character like rein, orisa, and mei are good and whats described by Jayne at holding space. While they can take and make space too, rein and orisa are good for holding space in one horizontal direction and mei can use her wall to cover for them. You can also prevent the enemy from taking space in ways described in this video, such as junkrat spam and just covering an area with a widowmaker. The more risk involved with taking a certain path, the less likely a team is going to go through that path. Watch Jayne's video reacting to this, he talks about space in a lot more detail.

Yeah but map control just means your keeping your space. Not giving up space, space really just means an area to do stuff.

Damage boost your Reinhardt. He doesn't need to get kills, but the sight of a damage boosted German running at your team is frightening. Or damage boost your hit scans so they can get picks. Picks are the best way to make space after all.

This is one of the most vague, poorly explained concepts in overwatch. I reeealy hope you can explain it so myself and everyone else in silver can finally know what it means.
Hopefully this helped clarify a few things.
how do u create space with mercy?
Damage boosting hero's like Bastion, Pharah etc so the enemy team puts extra resources into you 2 or they are forced to move to a different location. A junkrat spamming is extra scary when he's damageboosted.
You can also create TONS of space by using your Valkyrie efficiently. When using it the enemy team will react accordingly, but damageboosting, rezzing teammates, and whipping out the pistol against stationary targets like Widow are all good spacemaking tactics. (And can deliver a kill)
