i think a big part of the reason loreal is okay with keeping the video up is bc this whole scandal has given them HELLA sales on the product. ive seen so many ppl go and try to buy the product only for it to be sold out

I really hope this doesn't impact everyone negatively because what if the FTC sees this and starts paying more attention and starts regulating it more strictly. Like it's already heard enough for people that follow the rules making sure they properly follow the rules. And people like her make it SO MUCH WORSE FOR EVERYONE.
It's not about the mascara. It's about the law breaking and FTC violations. It's about her lying. And it's about people not growing and taking accountability for their slip ups.
Also absolutely DESPISE when people go "it's all just a bunch of haters!!!!" No it's not. It's usually people who really liked the content you made and thought they could trust you. Then shit like this happens and people feel upset because they liked you. And just want you to give a honest apology and move forward and become a better person.
Constructive criticism is a great thing because you can use it as a tool to improve yourself. Unfortunately many creators don't see it that way and see it as hate. Or are in denial.

@@teeblackwell6301 sure, most do. But they’re commercials. It’s very clear that you’re watching an advertisement about a product they’re trying to sell you. Commercials have their own set of laws to follow.
Influencer marketing became a thing solely because of the trust factor. The entire point was that it was a real person, who showed their real expertise, who you’ve grown to trust by watching their real videos, giving their real honest review of the product. Leading to more sales because *they were trusted.*
That’s why the FTC had to create all the ad rules in the first place, because influencers were starting to deliberately lie about things not being an ad - like mikayla did here - because they were banking on their followers believing their review and increasing their payout by getting both money for the ad on top of affiliate dollars.
The entire thing falls apart and brand sponsorships/deals go away completely if people like mikayla take over the space. At that point the literal commercials would be worth more, both for the brand and to the consumer. Review based content dies. Any videos that aren’t TH-cam family ad-roll approved die. Nobody trusts anybody except people they know in real life. And we all suffer for that.
Her deception is nothing like commercial “fakery”

Tbh I stopped watching her a while ago when she got caught lying before, when she was denying using filters . I commented on her first yt video after mascaragate and got attacked by her stans lol , I just struggle to Fathom how her fans are happy to be lied to and deceived . I lost any remaining respect I had for her after this last fiasco, I just think it’s hilarious how her fans are happy being lied too now she’s taken their money , bought a house , paid for her wedding and that’s how she thanks her fans , shocking really. I'm gonna be honest, I never liked Mikayla. I just cringe at her voice every time, but I never went out of my way to make fun of her since she's doing her thing and I'm doing mine. I heard about this situation from a TikTok stitch and the person who stitched actually did an honest review on the mascara. I'm just really surprised and need to comprehend what's happening LOL

The way she talks leads me to a person that has no education to be honest, I don't know what's her background but like I couldn't stand the way she talked , heard of her of other youtubers that were saying how awesome she is 🙄 I wonder what they say now

I didn’t trust her reviews anyway she has a very fake off vibe to me. Also anytime I’ve seen her on my tiktok fyp doing a review she always loves the product, there is no nuisance taking about pros and cons of the item(s) in question just loves it.

I used to be obsessed with beauty content on TH-cam and all of the product reviews. After buying dozens of products I realized that you cannot go on the review of just a few people. The product has to have a good result over a vast majority of people that try it. To me, the issue wasn’t really the falsies because Ive grown up watching every single mascara commercial on TV and they are all marketed using false lashes. The issue to me is the attempt to hide the sponsored aspect of the video. When deciding on buying a product I count sponsored reviews as 40% the validity of a non sponsored review when making my decision on whether to buy.

But I will say, those ads with false eyelashes had to disclose that on screen. It was in small print at the bottom, but they did disclose them.

tbh one of the worst parts of this controversy is its effect on other beauty creators. they already get a bad rap because of some people (in the last few years)
not only did she lose the trust she built with her fanbase, but this situation could also deepen the narrative that every beauty influencer, or content creator in general, is untrustworthy. even though there are many well-intentioned and honest creators on tiktok, it creates this whole look of "all creators lie for money". and of course, smaller creators will be the most affected.

I feel that she purposely hasn't addressed the issue in her two videos after lashgate because she knew people would watch her videos to see what she had to say. It drives up the views. And the engagement as everyone comments.

The amount of mascara ads I have seen by a company, that uses fake lashes is ridiculous. They have in the tiny tiny print “model is wearing false eyelashes” That honestly no one can see unless you are a foot away from it, and looking for it.
I honestly don’t care…. She clearly is making that $$, and it won’t be influencing me to change my mascara.
When it comes to apologies, it’s often best to not give one and to just move on. Any apology will not be enough for the audience and will be picked apart, and it will prolong the problem rather than fix it. Not always the case but it’s true for many

The thing about donations like that is that for the company, brand, whoever, its a tax cut. There is a very good chance that she did donate it, and then claimed it all back as a tax return for a charitable donation, because she donated it under her own name. so either way shed get the money for herself. Thats why its best to donate directly to charities and not through companies.

How these types of sponsorships work: brand sends influencer free item and a promo code, influencer gets a percentage of the profit for every time that promo code is used when buying a product.
As a result, some influencers see it as justified to lie and mislead their audience in order to make them buy the item and profit. Avoid that type of influencer.
