Remember corn can actually make its own micro climate it you plant it thick enough and you get at least the minimum amount of water! I live between 7,000 and 8,000 ft and I haven’t always planted corn but even up here if conditions are right I can have a great corn patch.

It’s so wild watching you harvest corn with flex reel. I love that you plant new things like the hemp & corn. Makes total sense to raise it for cow feed. Kinda like a triple crop, corn-food, manure-fertilizer & meat.
Since the price of grain always fluctuates, I’d think growing a variety of crops, if you’re able, more options to cash in on.

  • @FuelMan

Have you ever thought of trying dryland milo . The Petersons Brothers grow a bunch for their cattle. Just another crop to look into trying.
Most respect for stepping out of the box.

I was thought/wondering the same thing. I think they would be far better suited to Raise Milo vs Corn. That and Milo is about a 1/3 of the Cost for Seed and requires about 1/2 of the Nitrogen/Fertilizer requirements and is Far more Drought Tolerant. It also is a Great Cattle Feed Option with the same Feed/Nutritional Benefits of Corn.

Yeah, those Montana people just can't grow corn 😂😂. Meanwhile, we here in Idaho we can grow corn that can Rival even the Midwest. In fact, last month, I went through Nebraska and Iowa for work. And I saw y'all corn, and I gotta say Idaho did a better job. Then again, we also didn't have as bad of a drought as you guys. My gosh, y'all rivers were almost bone dry. Now, the West is known for its droughts. However, your state's drought is far worse than anything Idaho has seen in years. Now, I've lived on Idaho my whole life of 38 years. And I've seen a drought that bad. I pray y'all get some serious 🙏 rain and snow this year. Cause you guys need it.

Tony , running everything through the combine did think about baling the corn stocks to use or sale. Here in Illinois I know people that both feed corn stocks and use them for bedding. And you can just drop a windrow and then bale it. Just a thought for future. I enjoy watching your channel and would some day love to come to Montana and meet you all.

If you're actually working to find a way to grow corn as a cash crop I can't help wondering if your feed lot friend where you sell some hay? wouldn't be interested in buying it from you chopped. It looks like it was Good Test Weight Corn (61-62 is Great Test Weight in the I-States) even if it was only a 30 Bushel Yield.
I am curious if you added any Fertilizer/Nitrogen Fertilizer or if you just Planted it and went with what Fertility was in the Dirt.
I would like to see you give it a Go with a Real Corn Planter and Corn Header. Same goes for Milo, you are Really Suited to Raise some Milo/Grain Sorghum with your Climate. That and Milo is about a 1/3 of the Cost for Seed for Corn and requires about 1/2 of the Nitrogen/Fertilizer requirements of Corn and is Far more Drought Tolerant.
