In October of 1971 Walt Disney World opened in Orlando Florida. For over 50 years Disney parks have been the gold standard by which all other amusement parks are compared.
After Capcom published Mickey Mouscapade , they held the license to make Disney games, and wanted to bring the excitement of visiting a Disney Theme Park home with a game for the NES. Which park would they base the game on? The answer is quite interesting...
So how did this unique game get made? On today's episode we'll find out, and then we'll dive deep into the gameplay where we'll learn:

Me too. I almost thought this was a little unsatisfying for a UCBVG video, with how fast it was over.
Yeah seriously. Look at marble madness for instance. Just a shade over 3 minutes for the entire game.
I think one thing that makes these so short is once you actually figure out what you need to do, they tend to be very easy.
A lot of NES games involved trial and error until you figure out the best path that works for you.
I've been playing the same games as they get uploaded here and with their help, I realized how easy and short some of these games are.
Like Ghosts N Goblins, once I learned the first part of the second stage can be cleared by just running and jumping, it made it a lot easier than trying to fight those flying imps.
If our kind guide is reading this, typically how much time do you spend researching games and playing them to the extent you do? Because I imagine it's a lot of hard work.
@@starofjustice1 true, but have to give the guy some credit. He did do Dragon Warrior a few weeks ago. He prob needs to get some short ones out to live his life. Haha
I remember my mom buying me this at Toys R Us because it was only $20, whereas everything else was at least $40 (some as high as $80 at the time!). She also knew that I loved trivia and quiz shows, so the idea of incorporating Disney trivia was a huge selling point. It took me five days to beat it for the first time, but no one saw. So the next day, I did it again in front of my mom, and did an absolutely perfect run in 7 minutes. She smiled as she cussed me out for not taking longer, because that meant I could get another new game. I'd never done a speed run before (intentional or not), and I've never done one since. Definitely some fond memories with this one.
The fastest speedrun in the world is over 9 minutes. A little far fetched to say you did it in 7...
This was one of those games I played growing up that I rented once in awhile, but never got very far in. For a game that's supposed to be geared towards children, I always thought it was kinda hard.

@@adventureoflinkmk2 I don't know, I beat plenty of NES games back then that I feel like were difficult, but were still designed well.
With Magic Kingdom, each stage has it's own mechanics and rules and they aren't always clearly defined. The train stage is literally trial and error. The racing stage makes it feel like you have to actually race, but you don't.
I blame part of it on the era the NES was from. Games still had a bad habit of being unclear on things still. Renting games was always a gamble, especially since getting the NES manual with them was really uncommon for me.
I wonder if that's why they didn't make Mickey the hero - They were worried that would skew the demographic younger and the kids that played wouldn't be able to handle this one.
Of course Mickey Mouscapde is very hard for little kids
Space mountain and the minecart ride require really tight reflexes, it was a really hard game for kids
Well I think the point of this game is to suggest the player join the disney universe by connecting with all their brand icon characters. The focus is on visiting the theme park and doing all the rides. The game designers clearly intended these two things.
As usual for Capcom, this game's soundtrack is amazing. The songs randomly pop into my head pretty often.

This game feels like a precursor to Kingdom Hearts, with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. The protagonist is like some sort of prototype Sora (ie, huge shoes lol)

For me the best part is seeing which game he chose for the week. It's usually something unexpected.

The haunted house is one of the most atmosphere levels, since my childhood I started to love creepy and scary things: books, arts, movies and so on. I can say this game had formed my tastes!
Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean levels both got the feeling perfect for me.
Fun fact: Space Mountain is the oldest ride in the park but has the longest line.

A short one today. I used to rent this all the time. It's one of the very few games where you play as a cowboy.
Sunset Riders is another one, and Cowboy Kid for NES. Any other cowboy-starrers?
@@CarletonTorpin Lone Ranger for the NES. Wild Guns for SNES. The Red Dead games, and there was a game called Gun for PS2. It's not a well-mined genre.
I honestly think Lone Ranger is the most underrated game on the NES. Seriously, it has everything, on zero top lists.

I can see that being kind of hard to do with how Swords and Serpents is just one big maze from start to finish. At least with Dragon Warrior the scenery changed once in a while.
@@starofjustice1 actually the pathing would be very much like the buildings in Festers Quest. I recall there was a strategy guide with maps at one point but as a child I could never afford one.
I used to play this game all the time at my grandpas house when I was small. For some reason many of my worst nightmares have featured the pirates ride level. Never actually beat any of the levels in this game but I love the music.
Fun fact: if you leave your name blank, you get the name "Bamboo.7". I always thought Bamboo 7 would have been a great character to see in the Marvel vs Capcom games with his cowboy hat and throwing candles, etc. :)
Also, I can't think of another US release of a Nintendo game that features Spanish text anywhere. In the Pirates of the Caribbean level, you pass a building labeled "mercado" (market).

If you look at it this way, the character's hair colour (although a tad darker) brings Sora from Kingdom Hearts to mind. Maybe this is the game that started it all since Sora's weapon is a giant key. 🤔🤷🏼♀️ Who knows?

Oh man, my cousins and I rented this game on a whim one weekend and had a great time with it. An underrated gem.
This game clocked an absurd number of hours in my NES as a kid.
I am also now reminded that my dad was pissed when my sister and I put…quite the inappropriate name in for our character.

You beat that game in under 20 minutes! :D I remember spending 20 minutes just on the Pirates of the Caribbean level, and I'd never rescued more than 2 of the damsels.

Allegedly a boy was playing with a lighter or candles and a lighter and was the cause of the Haunted Castle fire. If that's true, and I don't know whether it is or not, he may have gotten the idea from the scare-house level of this video game.

Those platforming sections were BRUTAL! Not quite as bad as Bucky O'hare but pretty close!
The protagonist's ever-anxious facial expression, especially in the Haunted Mansion, make him look like a self-portrait of Chris-Chan.

The content has gotten more top notch with every installment. You are hitting your stride. As for this game, never had it. I would see it at Palmer Video back in the days (remember video rental stores. Kids today will never know that feeling going in one) but never paid any attention to it as a kid. Might have to give this one a look

This game had so much potential to be great, but it always leaves me wanting. It easily could have divided itself into worlds like the Super Mario and other games did. It would be divided into six worlds, where at the end of each world, you receive a key. This game of course is really based on the Disneyland park in California and not The Magic Kingdom in Florida, so I'd pertrain the design to that game. All attractions were active as of 1990, so I'll only include those. World 1 would have been Main Street, USA, where you'd have the Disney trivia, WDW railroad, arcade, and Main Street Cinema levels where in the last, you basically play as Mickey in classic shorts as you reach a goal. The arcade would be a fun game of pinball, while the railroad is sort of the easier version of the Big Thunder Mountain railroad, where you have to avoid dead ends and obstacles, but don't have to race to clock or reach a certain station. World 2 would be Adventureland, with the Pirates of the Caribbean level from this game, Jungle Cruise where you must avoid animals along a raft ride, and a tough, but fun Swiss Family Treehouse where you must retrieve the key at the top. World 3 would be a combo of Frontierland and Critter Country, where Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Haunted Mansion, another water level with the Tom Sawyer riverboat, and Frontierland shooting gallery challenge you. World 4 is Fantasyland, where you must save Snow White in his scary adventures dark ride, a sky-themed level with Peter Pan's Flight, and have the daunting task of getting the fourth key at the Matternhorn. But Fantasyland is so big, it gets a second world! World 5 starts off with It's A Small World where cultural challenges await you in addition to just a boat ride. This is followed by another flight ride with Dumbo, a conveyor belt challenge with the Mad Tea Party, and finally an underwater expedition with 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea where the fifth key awaits you. And to wrap things up, Tomorrowland is the final, and most difficult world. The Autopia race from the actual game is there, but there's also the Astro-Orbiter (shown on the map but not used), a space-shooter level, the Carousel of Progress (just a side-scroller, but a difficult level with lots of enemies), and of course the final, most difficult level, Space Mountain, where the sixth and final key awaits. There you have it, instead of just five levels and a bit of trivia, 22 plus the trivia, and you finally have a game that's worth purchasing.
Yay! A new episode to enjoy! I only played this as an adult, never had it as a kid, i never had the patience to be it, but alas! I can watch the expert beat it! n_n

Obviously, the game won't capture the full experiences, but not everyone would have remembered their experience nor the authenticity of the experience here. I agree that the other Disney Capcom games are awesome, especially Ducktales.
I rem wanting to go to WDW and parents said no.. they got me this game, lol. 4 years later we finally went... loved The haunted mansion and pirates... this was a great game.

I received an NES for Christmas, and this was the game I got a along with Mario/duck hunt. I remember how hard it was for 4/5 year old.
1) autopia was the first level I could beat.
2) space mountain was sooo hard!
3) I thought the pirates were baseball players and was confused since it was the pirate ride!
Another underrated game with a lot of variety. The racing stage reminds me of the Spy Hunter games.

Rescue Rangers was a vastly superior game and was two players. There's no wonder it blew away magic kingdom in terms of sales. I played through it dozens of times with my siblings. I recently took my girlfriend through it on the disney collection on my PS4. It's a game that holds up very well.

Capcom did such an amazing job with the Disney license back in the day! I never did get around to this one.
This was a frequent rental when I was a kid, but usually it was because all the games I wanted were rented out. I vastly preferred Mickey Mousecapade, Duck Tales or Rescue Rangers if I needed a Disney fix. I enjoyed this video as always though.
This is how I nerdy I am. When you jump with the car because it's from Capcom it's the sound of ice man stage when the ice blocks are forming from the first mega man .What a pain in the ass stage that was.

The one UCBVG I'm most looking forward to is A Boy and His Blob. I beat it as a kid with no help, just trial and error.

I always had the idea that this game was a prequel of "Kingdom Hearts"; both games have Disney theme worlds, the important use of "keys" and the main protagonist is not a Disney character, in a way they are very similar.
3:51 It was probably because Castle of Illusions (Sega GEN/MD) was in development at the same time and Disney's software division probably didn't want any customer confusion.
Honestly, they should've just overhauled it and made it an adaptation of The Rescuers Down Under (just change the protagonist slightly to resemble Jake).

Well, I got banned from The Magic Kingdom for huckin' my colostomy bag at Zachary Taylor in The Hall of Presidents? His dang ghost groped one of my flesh folds durin' an un-aired episode of Ghost Adventures! I hollered, "Take THAT, President Zak Colostomy Bagens!" before the dang Disney Secret Service dragged me outta there.
This is a fantastic game. It could have used a few more ride levels and a little more refining on difficulty. Some rides are way easy and others are way hard. Would love to see a ROM hack where we get more ride levels like It's a small world, Tom Sawyer's island, and maybe a final level unlocked in the castle when you get all keys. Also being able to swap player skins like Mickey, Donald, Goofy. SO much potential!!!
I had this game when I was a kid. I was too young to know how to use the power ups so when I finally finished, I did it without using any power ups lol

I had this game as a kid. I bought it because it was cheap and I only had so much spending money. I’m sure I got overlooked early on because it looked so kiddie. But it was actually a good game. I’m still surprised you didn’t get to play as Mickey Mouse, though.
