The Dominate Outlaw Black Street Gangs in NYC in the 1970s were....The Black Spades, The Tomahawks, The Jolly Stompers, The Black Pearls, The Seven Crowns.
My step pops was a high ranking savage nomad in the 90s in Hartford CT . And we had a mayor in Hartford , CT that use to be a ghetto brother . Mayor Perez
I’m from Sunset Park Brooklyn. The same gang activity was happening at the time. You had the Assassinators, La Familia, Turban Saints and The Dirty Ones, who transitioned to a biker club and are still active. There were many more gangs but those were the top 4.
I grew up across the river In Brick city, NJ during the sixties and seventies. We had the same thing, the only 2 names I can remember Were the "Demon Warriors" and the " Blue max" These gangs protected the neighborhoods from outsiders who tried to prey on the residents . in the early 70's A fellow by the name Of Billy "Sinbad" moved in from Chicago and was one the founding ambassadors of the " Latin Kings " in North Newark.
I grew up in New Orleans in the 60's and 70's. One Mardi Gras I saw the crowd part like the Red Sea. The Banshees MC was just strolling down the street before the parade. No mean mugging. No acting out. Just laughing and smiling. They looked like sharks swimming through a school of goldfish. Needless to say they left mark on my childhood.

Sorry about that but the Latin kings, Netas or La Familia had nothing to do with the Zulu Nation back when we were young. The only crew that came out of the Zulu Nation back then was HBO, which stood for Home Boys Only. Plus, in New York City we didn’t run in gangs, we ran in crews.
