Dude we need a Season 3 of Tokyo Vice!! Such a criminally underrated show! I had no idea he was from my city St.louis until the episode where he went back to STL to visit his family!
It's a great show (in fact it's my #4 favourite show of all time), but the show was cancelled by Max, and the ending was absolutely perfect and so a 3rd season isn't necessary or needed anyway-I'd love to see a prequel series chronicling Ishida's rise to power within the Chihara Kai though (set in the 70's-80's); that way we could see more of the Tokyo Vice universe without an unnecessary third season. The Tokyo Vice book and his other two books are great as well and worthy of a tv series adaptation, definitely.
I’m so glad you’re able to push sponsors/ads again. While some view them as annoying, I see it as you getting the funding you need to keep this awesome show running. Keep up the good work, I’m real proud of how far you’ve come
Jake, Ever heard of Kinoshita-kai in Okayama. My cousin, Ken Kinoshita, is the son of the founder. I know one of their top guys got iced at Kobe Station by Yamaguchi Gumi. I've never met him although I wanted to after hearing about him. Son of my mom's younger half sister, Hisako.
Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima were all generation 2 reactors built during 1970. That's the same year as the Ford Pinto. Nobody wants to build Nuclear Pintos. Modern designs are the Generation 3+ and Generation 4. The waste they create is minimal.
There is a different fuel source (Thorium) for nuclear power and people are looking at that one now, it does not produce the same outputs that regular nuclear plants produce. Look at it.
Julian you’re killing it bro. You have such a dope lineup of guests. The show Tokyo Vice is such a fire show. And to have it come full circle for me just watching your pod, regardless of the guests is awesome. But then to have ppl id love to listen to is even better. Keep doing your thing brother!

Thank you so much for conducting and sharing this interview with ADELSTEIN-SAN. I was blessed to have lived and worked in Japan for 9+ years and hearing his journey, periodically speaking in Japanese, explaining the cultural nuances and differences from the West, and the social and cultural norms that are found throughout Japan it its different ways was very connecting and informative as he uncovered things I was previously unaware of but wasn't surprising. I also very much enjoyed seeing his character shine throughout the interview - knowing the difference between information that is beneficial and useful vs the salacious and malicious kind that definitely infects Western mainstream and social media. I also have to say that the teacher at the beginning is absolutely legend and on reflection, perhaps the way they handled that situation with him was a foreshadowing of what was to come throughout the rest of his life as he gained the skills (self defense & spiritual) to navigate numerous situations with such fluidity. Although I'm not a Buddhist, I was so incredibly fascinated by Buddhism (Zen and zazen), as well as Taoism, during my time spent in Japan, and can see how that was also important to his journey. I have to say that the one place in the world where I was at peace, felt secure, connected, and at home is in Japan and not a day goes by that I don't miss the country, people, culture, society, and life that's lived. Although there is no utopia and panacia to correct historical wrongs, Japan is and will always be 故郷 (home; in emotional significance as I was not physically born there). Thank you once again for interviewing him and wishing ADELSTEIN-SAN, you, and your families a blessed, healthy, prosperous, and peaceful 2025! PS. Although I don't work with him or you, I'd like to express, "otsukare same deshita! (thank you for your hard work!)"
