This is very timely for me; I've been thinking for the last couple of weeks about how to make better use of what I have and stop buying for the sake of buying, So far my goals are: stop buying ink if I already have something very similar; start selling or gifting the pens that don't spark joy; keep fewer pens inked up at once; find new activities I can enjoy using my pens for. Taken together I think those will make a big difference in my enjoyment of my pens and inks!

My goals are to buy no starter pens and to save what I would have used on yet another TWSBI or Safari to go towards the higher-end pens I actually want. I have a couple gold nibs and vintage pens on my list, and also want to get a couple more premium steel nibs, like the Estie or the Gioia Partenope. Also on a strict ink no-buy until spring--I have so much to use!
For 2024 To Buy: my goal is to buy one pen, a Franklin-Christoph Model 45, as soon as they come out with a color that speaks to me. Only buy De Atramentis Artist Ink, of which I am only missing 2-3, and only for specific defined projects. Buy no paper.
For 2024 To Do: Use up other inks in large, gestural abstract watercolor-style paintings. Complete my Two-Tone project (over half done), sketchbook drawings in two colors of ink. Determine the image for my 12' * 4' painting. Start drawing/transferring image to the paper.

Wish list: 1. Edison Beaumont in the new "River's Edge" acrylic. 2. BENU "Bush Viper" 🐍 that Truphae is expecting at the end of February.

Thanks for sharing! That's a great wish list and I love the goal of improving penmanship. It's a win-win - you get time to focus but also learn and improve!
I like the idea of waiting 7 days before buying a pen! In that time, the pen may be sold out, you may not even care too much about the pen anymore, and it allows time to assess your funds and if you're able to obtain it through any means within the 7 days. I was able to hold off on the 3 Galattica Leonardos and said no to all 3 of them! But there are just some of those pens that you just know, you need it. So I think for me, if I know a certain pen will come out, I'll still dedicate time to determining if it will elevate my collection and my happiness, or if it is something that can go. For pens that just come out of nowhere, like those Galattica, I'll need to employ your 7day method haha! But I am happy that I made decisions not to get any of the new pens (and even returned the Viola Visconti!) I think the 800 is perfect for Raden. I barely use my M1000, so if you want to stare at your raden artwork in use constantly, the 1000 won't do it for you. I am thinking still though, of doing it on my 1000, because an art piece doesn't need to be used often, for my needs. Maybe only use during signatures, or fancy flourishing xD In time, I might even have raden done on An Aurora or King of Pen Sailor xD
My goals for ink is to use what I have. I have several pens on my wish list. My main goal is to stick to what I want and not go crazy over every new pen

I highly recommend a pen from Walltown Pens. I already own 2. His work is amazing. I don’t own any Esterbrooks yet but I too am looking for the Blue Moon color. I drool over all the images I see online. Thanks for sharing.

I also have the Estie in White on my wishlist. Last year, I bought the Raven and it is in my “always inked” rotation.

My only goal is to buy fewer pens this year as I bought many different starter pens last year.

I tried the Schon DSN at the Philly Pen show and I could see how excited everyone was about it. It is a great writer but out of range for now. I'm waiting for my first Zodiac Pen Co pen to arrive. I thought it was interesting you had a sailor 1911 or the progear on your list.

I'm getting a 1911L or ProGear as I gave my white rose gold away, and am looking for a simple black one to replace it to put on a much nicer resin from Just Turnings!
Thank you for sharing your goals - great ones! I am still struggling with mine 😅. Walltown Pens is great to work with, I have several pens from them. Scribo Feel was on my whislist last year, I bought the Verde Antico and am so happy with it. English Garden is a resin I have been eyeing for quite some time but not yet decided on. A monoc nib is on my wishlist too...
You can do it! I did not have a wish list last year but a goal of only one pen per month and I went WAY over that. A wish list will help me keep to what I really want!
I love the look of Esterbrook Estie Sea Glass and Punch, but I hate how they feel in my hand, so I get you on having to hold them before buying! I'm on the monoc train as well. Its always good to have a real think about how you want your collections to go and how you want to use them. Very helpful.
Makes such a difference when you can hold the pen - no matter how pretty it is, if it's not comfortable, it won't work!
I love this and I want to do this for myself. I want to do a low buy for pens for now since I have two on the way bringing my collection to ten and I want to appreciate the ones I already have.

Great video and a very well thought out plan for your 2024! I'm definitely trying to make this my indie pen maker year, and I've got a couple custom orders in the works that I'm wicked excited for. One is from Zodiac Pens as you've had such incredible things to say about working with Bart, and it's been lovely to discover he's just as awesome as you've said. The other is an Eno from Walltown Pens in a resin I've been in love with since I first saw it with the intention of getting an Onslow (the one with the finials) later in the year. Looking forward to hearing more about your vintage Pelikan wishes - I'm still hoping to snag a 400 or 400nn in the tortoise, and maybe this will be the year. :) As always, thank you for sharing with us!

Love this video-I think I need a plan! Due to your praises over Zodiac I’ve discovered Bart as well. Three pens later I am in love. I’m afraid to look on his sight as my wallet screams, but his stuff is just so beautiful. Need to check out Walltown-never heard of them before until your channel.

The Once in a Blue Moon is a lighter blue than Nouveau Bleu. Hard to explain but CocoPlans on Instagram has one and it is stunning.

It's a mix of Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-Ho with Wearingeul Heart glitter potion.
I knew the M800 black will go for raden treatment. 😅
