    Beautiful collection! I love my Estie and Benu (a Talisman). I’m starting to think there’s a big overlap between people who love tarot and people who love fountain pens 😊

    • @SunsetBoughTarot
      @SunsetBoughTarot  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right? I think maybe tarot people also (not always, but often) tend to be people who do a fair amount of journaling…maybe that’s the reason for the overlap? 😊

    Okay, the iced caramel latte is a beauty 🤩 I think I would like to try an architect nib at some point. The retractable function of the vanishing point is also very tempting 😅Oooh the Estie . . . STAAAAHP!!😩😅

    I loved this video. I'm new to fountain pens and I'm still finding out what my preferences. I think you are the first person that doesn't have a sailor in their collection. I'm still on the fence about them. I love my Benu Euphoria, Kawecos, Tiwsbis and my custom turned pens. I have the Pilot Explorer and I really like writing with that too. It's a smooth writer and the lines is crisp. I don't see many people mention those as a beginner pen.

    • @SunsetBoughTarot

      Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I actually did have a Sailor Pro Gear Slim at this time last year and ended up selling it…they’re so pretty but the “Sailor feedback” was not a sensation I found I enjoyed. I prefer a very smooth writing nib so I’ve been much happier with my Pilot gold nibs. I think the Explorer is kinda neglected just because the Kakuno is also a lightweight plastic pen but is much less expensive, and the Metropolitan is marketed more heavily….but it’s kinda unfair because they all have basically identical nibs and the Explorer is a cool looking pen! 😆

    Love everything about this. I’m still testing the waters to see if this is the hobby for me. I love the inks and the pen and the writing. I hate the mechanisms and getting messy. Lol. 😊Thanks for sharing your collection. Now I wanna see inks and paper please. 😊

    So glad I found you. Such great recommendations in this video. Like you, I grip a fountain pen in such a way that the Vanishing Point is very uncomfortable. I took your advice and ordered the parts for my new Franken-pen. Also, like you I love the Hongdian Knife Blade. Ooooh that Medusa is one sexy pen. 😍 I like the style of that abalone Jinhao too, very pretty.
    I'm a definite Opus88 fan too, just based on my Koloro -- I may pick up one of those demonstrators, perhaps a Jazz, when I pop in Wonderpens next month.

      I truly love the Medusa pen so much…honestly between the easy filling mechanism and the quality nibs and the chonky colorful designs, Opus 88 does a lot of cool stuff. And I do love that Jazz demonstrator as well because it still has a distinctive look but also goes with any ink! 💖💖💖

    Hooo man, that Medusa pen! Thank you for sharing your collection, and for your insights about nib grinds. That observation about architect vs. stub isn't one I've heard anyone articulate but it makes total sense! And for the inspo to make a frankenpen - I am going to do the same, but with a plastic Majohn body (which Pilot also doesn't make) and Pilot nib unit.

    Glad I found your video.. you pushed me over the edge on getting the Earl Gray Benu, M nib. I wanted it last fall, but it was out of stock and now it's back so I just ordered it from Goulet. I have a F pt Briolette in Luminous Blue that I love. I don't mind the size, as I only use it for certain notes. It's VERY reliable, never a skip or "hard start" but like you I prefer a Med nib so I can enjoy the ink. I encourage someone to buy at your good price! My only Broad nibs are on older Jinhao dragons (from 10 yrs ago) since over the past couple of years I've been experimenting with F pts. But, like you, I only need them in my Faux-bonochi and smaller notebooks. I too still LOVE my Pilot Metro (M) White Tiger and Prera (which has an AI/CM nib) that I barrel fill with super Shimmer ink 😎 I will keep an eye on your sales! Thanks for sharing your collection and thoughts. Write ON 🖋

    Interesting video and nice collection. One tip how you can still improve your Majohn/Pilot Frankenpen. The compression springs in the Majohn A1 & A2 pens are longer than in the Pilot Capless. I have found that the nib units in the A1 & A2 sometimes leak a bit if used with a converter. I suspect it is because there is constant pressure on the converter, even when not compressed. I also own a couple of Pilot Capless pens and measured the compression springs and ordered the closest match I could find on ebay. The 0.6 x 8 x 30mm compression springs were the best match I could find and now the nib sections are not under constant pressure, I don't get leaky nib units with the converters anymore. (measurements in mm)

    Aaaaggghhhh I love this!! I have a similar path of starting with fine and extra fine nibs, then moving to broader - did you find you started changing the paper you were using too? I was kind of naughty about pens last year. Ceasing the tarot deck purchasing and escalating the pen purchasing is NOT a cost saving maneuver 😻

    • @SunsetBoughTarot
      @SunsetBoughTarot  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep I never thought I’d be a broad nib person but I do a lot of freeform journaling and eventually discovered that my optimal and most comfortable method of fast writing was basically a super smooth wider nib hydroplaning on a firehose of ink 🤣😅. I definitely got pickier about paper…I’m using a Rhodia journal at the moment and the writing experience is luscious, I just desperately wish they made a hardcover lined journal with white paper rather than ivory. But I also have a few Tomoe River notebooks waiting in the wings along with an Endless Regalia notebook to try out. And I am 100% the same with the naughty tarot purchases slowing but the naughty pen purchases picking up steam 😅🙈

    I don't know anything about these pens but you mentioned that the architect is good for somebody who prints. I'd like to buy something that works good for printing and I kind of like a bit of a thicker font..what would be a good beginner pen to try out?

    • @SunsetBoughTarot
      @SunsetBoughTarot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you’re completely new to fountain pens and usually prefer a thicker line when writing, I’d recommend a pen that has a western nib rather than a Japanese nib-a western medium nib would probably be a good starting point. Some great and affordable beginner pen options to look at with that kind of nib would be a TWSBI Eco, Kaweco Sport, and Lamy Safari (Pilot and Platinum also make great beginner pen options but Japanese nibs run quite a bit finer so those maybe aren’t so much what you’re looking for 😊). The architect nib makes printing look really cool but it’s more of a specialty nib grind that isn’t quite as easy to write with so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for a beginner pen. Thanks so much for watching and if you end up trying out a fountain pen, let me know how it goes! 💖

      @@1976mcfarlane awesome!! I hope you end up enjoying the Lamys! I actually journal a lot more since I started writing with fountain pens because they’re so nice to write with…you don’t have to press down at all and there are so many options to find one that fits your hand well, so I basically don’t experience hand fatigue when writing at all anymore! 😊
