    Did you know that Madonna had her "Like A Prayer" album scented with Patchouli? The inside jacket of the vinyl album! Loved it!! Smelled like a Catholic church!

    When I was in junior high, my mother bought me a bottle of Chanel 19, which I wore for a few years. Although you don’t see it all that often now, it’s still a classic to me.

    Tellin’ ya, that Shalimar EDT is for everyone. The cologne formulation too. The construction is perfection, and the smokey incense/vanilla combo is killah! Championship level fragrance for anyone who digs those notes.

    I always enjoy listening in on you two! And I love ''grandma'' scents! Thank you, Dahlia for challenging that dismissive phrase! I still wear Estee Lauder's Azuree and Madame Rochas, just like my mum.

    Also Samsara and Georgio. My mom always wore way too much Georgio, and smoked, and then chewed mint gum. Always turned my stomach! Apparently Georgio was banned in some restaurants!

      @@ThePerfumeGuy yas, please, we need part 2!
      And I hope you will include an iconic ‘80s fragrance that no one is talking about: Parfum de Peau by Montana 1986. Iconic enough to appear in “Basic Instinct” 🖤

  • @naamahnotorious955
    @naamahnotorious955 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Like I said many times before, I'm an Angel girl, that'll always be my scent. But as a teenager, I loved Loulou. Now my mom has told me she still has an unopened bottle from the 90's. And I'm getting my hands on that one! Now to add for future video's two more iconic fragrances I loved when I was younger : Rive Gauche from YSL and Opium from YSL. In that day and age I also loved Rochas' Alchemy and Ralph Lauren's Lauren. But I don't know if I would consider those iconic.

  • @marinelab
    @marinelab ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I would also add Eau de Rochas, it was quite emblematic in the 80's (at least in France), designed for women who didn't go along with opulent 80's scents. It was the fresh alternative. I also remember Montana's Parfum de Peau, I don't know it it was very popular but the bottle was emblematic when it came out. I bought it when I was around 15 years old and loved it, my friends though not so much, probably too "mature", lol...About Cacharel, I think that every French little girl got "Anais Anaïs" gifted at some point. Even the name Anaïs became a super popular name then.

  • @boogiedaddy3434
    @boogiedaddy3434 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Definitely some big names here. I know it had to be tough to choose only one from each house when so many of the classic brands have released multiple powerhouse fragrances over the years. As far as others that I consider iconic, several come to mind: Opium, Poison, Miss Dior, Mitsouko, Vol de Nuit. I would even consider some of the Elizabeth Arden offerings such as Sunflowers and Red Door iconic because of their huge popularity back in the late 80s and eaarly 90s, even if you don't really hear anyone talk about them anymore. I can almost smell the JC Penney store just thinkiing about them. lol

    Shalimar is just so good! It’s the only thing I wore from my early teens into my thirties-I still love it, but like to mix things up more these days. As you mentioned, Millesime Tonka is an incredible flanker, and I’m hoping it returns as part of the upcoming 100 year anniversary (along with all the other flankers).

    • @aquababy5
      @aquababy5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hopefully Guerlain doesn’t mess up the anniversary like Chanel did for No 5. That was just depressing that they didn’t do anything but an ugly repackage…

    Thank you for another wonderful episode with you and Dalya! The Diorissimo segment just hits different as it was my mother's signature scent . It's hard to find here and now (PH) so these days she's using Yves Rocher Muguet instead. I used to find it so heady as a kid but in hindsight, it was surprisingly fresh, even in the tropical heat where waxy white florals are the stuff of migraines.

    I'm so here for this! Thank you! I love, love, love Guerlain's Shalimar and own a full bottle. I love everything about it including the gorgeous bottle. I agree that it's quite unisex. I tried Halston's Halston in my twenties and due to my under developed nose, couldn't appreciate it.

    Another fantastic video. I work night shift and watching these videos you make is just so great and uplifting. You both have such a happy and positive energy and it really shows and inspires. I could listen for hours and never get tired of the stories and memories that can be shared here about all these classic fragrances. You both have a great friendship and that is wonderful. I have been collecting a lot of vintage fragrances for both men and women and I wear all of them. My grandmother wore Alyssa Ashley Musk for years growing up and it’s my greatest scent memory of her and it’s a classic. I wish she was still with us because she would love to have seen all the perfumes I have collected. Thanks and keep making great videos! Bless you both 🙏💜

    Great video you two! I still have several of those iconic fragrances that live in my collection along with much newer perfumes of today. The video was like a walk down memory lane and made me spray on the first one (Caleche) mentioned as I realized that even though I once was completely enthralled with it (as well as Kelly Caleche), I rarely wear either. However, I still wear several others on your list. Another iconic perfume I would like to mention is Lanvin’s Arpege, which I still have in the pure parfum version in the round bottle with the gold cap which is absolutely beautiful and still smells really good. Thank you for this extremely enjoyable video!

    My aunt wore YSL Rive Gauche. L'air du temps Nina Ricci, Madame Rochas and one from Van Cleef&Arpels (name escapes me) were the scents my mother wore in the 70s. I got a bottle of Kouros in the early 80s for Christmas from a family friend - and I hated it. She loved it and wore that and nothing else for the rest of her long life. I do love Kouros now.

    Dalia's comments on fragrances she has the wearing experience history of definitely shows she is in the know to great lengths in some subtle nuances.
    And Dalia @17:00 mentions the Aramis Aftershave being so good. Aramis EDT happens to be my SOTD :) love it! But even though having a modest collection of After Shaves, I don´t have the Aramis after shave. Will have to look it up. Love Pinaud´s Clubman Special Reserve, which has similarities to Aramis EDT.
    Great guest as always, and great video!
    PS. From the past, iconic women's fragrance to my nose was YSL Opium Parfum, I mean late 80's version, in the red plastic bottle with golden/transparent cap and a see through off-center circle in the body. That stuff made me think for the first time that smells could have beauty just like music or paintings.
    Have started smelling women's fragrances systematically only relatively recently. From my limited sample space so far, the current ones that standout for me are Givenchy L'Interdit EDP, Dior J'Adore the alcohol free one, and Prada Candy.

    • @stogies3

      The Aramis aftershave has 2 versions,one is a regular edt type aftershave,and

    I had Caleche delicate and I absolutely loved it and wished I could smell it again. Angel was and always will be a 💕. Lou Lou smells too warm on me which is a shame as the notes should be perfection. On the other hand the Cacherel by Cacherel for men was a real swoon scent back in the day. Shalimar is a yes. There are a few scents I loved from the 90's and 00's one was Givenchy hot couture, also Givenchy angel/demon. The other was Dior addict which I think still is worth a look and I smelt it again recently that will definitely get in the collection soon

    Love Dalya and her curls! Giving me Like a Prayer vibes. 😍 I owned-wore both Caleche and Kelly versions for years and have decluttered but that was a fantastic choice. The notes are 😂vaguely similar I suppose but I never thought of Caleche smelling like Chanel No. 5. I’d add to this list Caron Tabac Blond, Joy by Patou, Bal à Versailles, and while Fracas is probably the more iconic choice I prefer Bandit.

Now I can’t decide what I like and wear good girl, good fortune by viktor rolf, light blue, jean Paul gaultier LE belle, and Angel nova. Love irresistible by givenchy as well. I kind of like Angel elixir

    Would love to try something similar to Fracas-any ideas? It is exactly how I would like to smell out of the bottle or on others, on me it is lackluster. I suppose I could try spraying it on a piece of clothing or in my hair. It is a Tuberose note that gets me weak in the knees.

    First time I've heard someone articulate the bubblegumminess of Fracas! It's spellbinding. I had an editor who wore it and I told her, truthfully, that I was distracted by how good she smelled. That was when I fell in love with Fracas and *had* to have it. A favorite forever.

      Oh yes for sure. It's such a bubblegum scent to me. I don't know why. I put my nose to it and instantly that is what I get. Tuberose Bubblegum! :)

    Chanel 22 is my all time favorite. My number one. Was gifted a decant in the 80’s of the perfume. Still have the bottle, empty, but I still sniff it on occasion. Lol

    Had to go find my Shalimar and Youth Dew. Went with Shalimar this evening, but Youth Dew will be in the rotation soon. My personal iconic fragrances are Femme, Boucheron, and Coco. The old versions. And may I say that the videos you do together never fail to make me laugh. If anyone hasn't seen the video about the vintage fragrances from the storage locker, you are so missing out!

    "Good girls don't smoke, dance the tango, or wear Shalimar".
    I really didn't know what aldehydes smell like until I smelled Picovaya Dama by Xerjoff, where aldehydes are amped up and the most dominant accord. I didn't get fizzy, zesty, effervescent champagne bubbles. That's what I almost get in the opening of Dior Eau Sauvage EDT. What I got was a strong, industrial strength cleaner irrigating my nostrils. Not good. I suppose aldehydes used in much smaller levels can do a lot for a composition. They're OK to my nose in Chanel No. 5. Hermés Equipage has an aldehyde note and it's great. I believe Penhaligon Sartorial has an aldehyde note. Great.
    I'm a dude, but I have a decant of Diorella coming, because I'm an Eau Sauvage fan. Never smelled Diorella but Edmond Roudnitska said it was "Eau Sauvage perfected".
    I bought Youth Dew for my girlfriend this winter. Also bought her the EDT of L'Interdit by Givenchy. Much different than the 1957 original I hear. But L'Interdit OG should be on this list. And Mitsouko and L'Heure Bleu, and Joy, and Vol de Nuit and maybe Arpege. But I guess not all can fit on a list of only 10.

      I bought Eau Sauvage for my dad when I was in France and I still wear Diorella. Lancome O, the green one, is similar but Diorella is the Queen.

    Today I am wearing Jean Patou Eau de Joy and loving it. Vintage bottle I got from eBay at a good price.
    I also wear Angel, and Explosive is deadly with a leathery oudh and amber layer.
    My 13 yo wears Shalimar and the 15 yo wears Cloud.
