    Noooo Jess you don't wet the brushes beforehand when you use the cinema secrets cleaner. You use WAY less product that way, and you really only need the smallest amount and it will clean them perfectly and they are available for use again almost immediately.

      Candice Crystal is right you dont put water on your brush at all, not before or after...

    I use Dawn and my hand. Works for my artist's brushes, works for my paint brushes, works for my makeup brushes, works for duckies covered in crude oil. If it can get latex house paint out, it can handle some eyeshadow.

      citrus fluff but is that good for your brushes? Might be too harsh.

      @@leiladash I've seen videos where they mix Dawn and olive oil to strip the brushes of the gunk and oil, but condition them at the same time so your brushes don't lose their softness. I tried it this last time, but I felt like a few of my brushes had a tiny bit of oily film. It was a test, because I usually buy brush soap. Idk if I'll mix Dawn and oil again.

      This would make a great Dawn ad. Make up brushes, latex paint, duckies covered in crude oil...works for anything! 🙂

      I got a brush soap in my beautylish lucky bag the year before last so I'm using that right now, but when I run out I will go back to dawn. It works just as well and is less expensive. And there doesn't seem to be any difference in softness between the 2.

    I just use baby shampoo for brushes and Dove sensitive bar soap for my sponges. They work just as good as anything else in my opinion.

    • @mishmash3968
      @mishmash3968 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Sarah Kay I use dawn to break down make up in the brushes if baby shampoo doesn’t do the job. I’ve used the Dove, Dr Bronner’s even oil cleansers or coconut oil do a great job gently breaking down tough make up for brushes and sponges. I’ve never bought a brush cleaner unless it was Elf’s quick cleaner that’s $3 for spot cleaning day to day or something (and I’m not even sure that does much, lol.)

      Flor Jazmin Juicyjas uses a pink bar soap found in the laundry section of Walmart that she swears by for brush cleaning. I have no idea what the ingredients are, but I just think a lot of the brush cleaners are gimmicks or more for convenience for make up artists to spot clean (the ones that dry immediately.)

    I thought you suppose to use Cinema secrets for a quick cleaning of the brushes when they dry. The same idea as Elf cleanser. You dip/spray dry brush and wipe it on a paper towel or cloth. I use Kleenex though. It’s definitely not designed for a deep cleaning. I use it every day on my brushes after each makeup application and once in a while deep clean them wet with the brush shampoo

      I have used Cinema Secrets dry for a few months but had never noticed that it leaves a blue residue on brushes. I was cleaning some new brushes to use for the first time, they were synthetic with PURE WHITE bristles and they definitely had a lot of blue staining on the bristles after. I took a hard look at some of my other brushes with lighter bristles that I have washed many times with the CS cleanser and saw that they do have some blue staining up near the ferrules especially (I guess it wicked all the way up there and won’t come out?). I saw Jessica using the wet clean method with CS and am going to definitely try that today on some of the ones with the staining! Maybe it helps the solution come out of some brushes that are denser or just wicked up too much product towards the ferrule over time? Not sure but I figure it’s worth a shot to get some of them with the gross looking staining and residue clean!

    • @NicoleNeenan
      @NicoleNeenan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      CN Beauty Addiction that’s happened to a couple of my brushes using the CS cleaner for sure! A few remained stained after a deep water & soap cleaning but most have lost the blue tinge. I’ve been putting the CS cleaner in a travel-sized spray bottle and spritzing my brushes rather than dipping them in a bowl and that’s helped me to not oversaturate the bristles with the solution.

    • @mks176

      Nicole Neenan what a great idea, I've used the CS cleaner 3 or 4 times and I've used SO MUCH OF IT because my brushes soak it right up. Will definitely try a spray bottle next time thanks!!

    I recently discovered a blush cleaning tip in a Facebook group I’m in - dip your brush in micellar water before cleaning and the leftover makeup comes off more quickly! I tried it with my most used foundation brush and it worked like a charm - my brush looks brand new. It’s amazing!

    Hey jess! Thanks for doing this video! So I work at Sephora and use a lot of the same products that you use. The “brush cleaner” is technically used for dry cleaning your brushes. So for me as a make up artist I spray the brush cleaner on a paper towel if I’m switching colors and want to use the same brush. It is labeled at “quick drying because it doesn’t make your brush wet. So you spray some brush cleaner into a paper towel (or any cloth towel) and swirl your brush and it is literally brand new. Anything labeled as a brush bath or shampoo is to be combined with water! So they are two different products actually. The reason the one that smells so strong is because of the chemicals that makes it a no water brush bath! Typically an actually water brush bath will smell lovely! I am constantly using a lot of brushes, but one way I can extend the time of my brush washes is to use the dry wash after I use my brushes so that the powders and products do not pile on the brush and I don’t have to wash as often! Much love xoxoxox

      Just us Johnsons I try and wash my brushes every other week. But that because I work at Sephora and wear a lot of make up. I think every 3 weeks to a month is good to do the deep wash for most people

  • @AngelaDianneMiller83
    @AngelaDianneMiller83 5 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    I used to use Dr. Bronners to wash my brushes, but it was definitely drying them out in a weird way. Now I use Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day dish soap because it breaks down the oils and build up without being overly drying. My brushes come out soft and fluffy and the denser ones still have the right texture for their uses.

    • @rachel81737

Then sometimes I'll put them in my hanging dry rack if I feel like pulling it out or just lay them flat on a towel ☺️ Seems to work well for me. Hi Jessica, its great to see how everyone cleans their brushes, allows you to pick up new tips you might not know :-) I've been cleaning my brushes with African black soap ( tip from Stephanie Nicole ) it works great and a bar lasts a long long time. When they are completely rinsed I dip the bristles in aloe Vera gel and let them dry ( tip from tarababyz) once dry you just crack (swirl the bristles on your hand a few times) the dried gel and your brushes are nicely conditioned so especially natural hair brushes don't get dried out :-) these are the two best tips I had found on you tube, and I truly trust Tara and stephanie. :-)

    I mix cheap shampoo and conditioner for my brushes. Cleans great and leaves them so soft. For sponges I use laundry bar soap. Its like 98© at Wal-Mart in laundry aisle. For scrubbing brushes I made my own with a clip board and used a hot glue gun making several different designs big and small. All cheap methods and all work great. For drying I cut pool noodles to fit onto a hanger then cut/poked holes out to hold brushes. They hang dry and very easy fast and efficient.

    1: you can also get all kinds of those silicone mats from places like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, etc.
    2: I always lay mine out on a towel as well, but I roll it a few times on the long end so that the brushes are pointed downward at least a little vs. totally flat. Maybe it doesn’t matter but it makes me feel a little better lol.
    3: when I stay at hotels and they put out extra bars of soap I don’t use, I’ll keep them for brush cleaning!
    Very helpful video! Thank you, Jess! ❤️

    I’ve heard and read a ton of people saying that the cinema secrets one ruins brushes, it can dissolve the glue in the ferrule so all the bristles fall out and it can dye any white or lighter colored brush hairs blue. Also the smell apparently lingers. I’ve been afraid to try it because I don’t think it would be worth risking ruining my nice brushes
    Also you are using the cinema secrets wrong, it’s an alcohol based cleanser so your not supposed to dip it in water first. Water and alcohol don’t mix very well and repel eachother. But maybe that’s why your brushes aren’t falling apart like other people? Maybe the water keeps the alcohol and other chemicals from dissolving the glue in the ferrule...? Who knows. Also your supposed to use a cloth to wipe it on not a rubber mat, the cloth would absorb the makeup that your removing.
    But if this works for you, I’m happy for you!

    Beauty blender solid cleanser is hands down the best for getting sponges really clean really fast. I also like it for my brushes,but it’s definitely expensive and I found myself going through them so quickly. Dove bar soap works just as good and is cheap. When I have the extra money I will get the solid cleanser though!!

    I cant stand the smell of cinema secrets its too sweet!!!! so i use the bb solid cleanser only for deep cleaning brushes and sponges and for spot cleaning the mac makeup cleanser, i put it in a spray bottle and spray a wash cloth and they spot clean amazingly, ive had my oldest sigma brushes for 10 years now been using the solid cleanser for like 5/6 years

      Oh and to dry them I use the sigma original shape n dry, keeps them in shape while they dry and you can put them upside down, the new one is that plastic bulky looking one, i know the brush tree works just as great to dry it just wont shape them to its original but thats what brush guards are for

    Hey Jess have you ever tried an oil cleanser on your sponges? You cleanse them just like you would do on your face - apply oil cleanser to a DRY sponge (I will either squirt it on to the sponge or will put some in my palm and rub it on), massage around the sponge squeezing to get it inside the sponge. Then you can add a little warm water (just like when doing an oil cleanser on your face) and massage/squeeze more to start emulsifying everything, then more warm water, more massage, more warm water, rinse massage rinse... this sounds like a lot of steps but it actually takes about 30 seconds total. It is a GREAT way to use up an oil cleanser you don’t like on your face (and I know you must get some of those in PR!!).
    Any oil cleanser works - so long as it emulsifies with water, turns milky, and rinses clean (aka you can’t use something like Eve Lom that requires a cloth to remove because obviously you can’t use a cloth to remove it from the center of the sponge!). I find oil cleanser is so much faster and rinses so much cleaner than the beauty blender cleanser or even the Daiso Puff and Sponge cleanser or face wash or the blender cleanser solid.
    Give it a try! Note I haven’t used a cleansing BALM on my sponges before, mainly because I don’t have one to try, but do think the liquid oil would permeate down into the stiffer, less porous, DRY sponge than a thicker solid cleansing balm.

      I started trying this recently and it really works. I use my cleansing oil from The Face Shop on my dry sponges that still show foundation or concealer spots that just won’t get out with soap. It’s so much quicker than my Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap and it gets rid of everything. I feel like I’m not using as much product either. I’ll still use Dr. Bronner’s on my brushes - usually liquid on larger ones and solid on my smaller eyeshadow brushes.

    I really like using the EcoTools Brush Shampoo. It cleans my brushes and sponges really well. I have tried other shampoos or soaps and they either don’t clean them as well or are too drying. I also would never use any type of oil like many other people have mentioned on here. Yes, they will moisturize your brushes, but they will also be oily and then you are putting that oil on your face. Not something I want on my face, especially with my already oily skin. That will just break me out.

  • @maybe1daysoon
    @maybe1daysoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2 things…NEVER use ANY water with the Cinema Secrets quick dry formula. And also put some product in a spray bottle. You’re supposed to spray large brushes like that. Dipping is for eyeshadow and concealer brushes. Larger face brushes should be sprayed to reserve product. I know this was a long time ago but I’m just saying lol.

      A huge bottle like that for a person using it only for themselves should last like half a year. I do my makeup literally almost every day and I use colorful shades and my bottle is half that size and lasting so long. I use greens and pinks and blues and reds and orange and everything so I really need my brushes super clean to prevent them getting muddy and this stuff has been a god send to clean and preserve brush life.

    Japonesque brush cleaner is my go to quick cleaner, and comes in citrus scent and one other scent. I purchased the large bottle from Ulta, and use a small spray bottle for spraying directly onto brushes, then swirl around on paper towels until all pigment is removed(may need to repeat if it is stubborn pigment). Deep cleaning with baby shampoo/wash works nice, but the Shae Moisture Peace Rose bar soap is a great cleansing soap and rinses easily.

    Hi Jessica! I just so happened to watch a Cinema Secrets rep on Instagram at the makeup show demonstrating that you barely touch a brush to the liquid and wipe it off on a paper towel? Does that only work for smaller brushes? I love using Zote bat soap under running water to clean brushes and especially beauty sponges! It removes all stains in a sponge left from foundation etc.

    I've found thru the many years of the dreadful makeup brush cleaning, that Ivory soap or body wash and just using the palm of my hand and fingers does the best job. Then I roll a hand towel up a little and lay my brushes on rolled end so they are elevated a little. It's fast easy and they get super clean. I've bought all kinds of kits. And tried just about everything.. This works the best for me.

    Jessica, if you are going to leave your brushes and sponges THAT long, I'd SANITIZE them besides cleaning them. They are NOT the same. Give them a spritz with rubbing alcohol. Cleaning does NOT mean sanitizing. Especially now with a baby in the home.

    I don’t own one of those gloves. I use bars of soap from hotels because they typically have a bumpy or grainy texture. I literally rub the brushes on the bar of soap while it’s under the running water. I do the same for my sponges and it works pretty quickly. I used to lay them on a towel to dry but it seemed to take a while to get completely dry. I don’t have as many brushes as some people do so I need them to dry fast. I took an empty ( cleaned out) large plastic juice container and cut holes in the top. I stick my brushes in the holes and they dry standing up. I guess I’m too cheap to buy a holding rack. Lol! It works for me! 🤷‍♀️ Thank you for another great video 💕

    I use the cinema secrets for only my eye brushes not all of my brushes. It’s just too expensive for me and the big brushes suck it up. I use plain ole Castile soap to wash the bigger brushes. For the sponges I fill the sink with water add a little of the liquid Castile soap and let them soak for 20 minutes or so. Then scrub and rinse them. Super easy and WAY less expensive 😘
    dawn dish detergent also works wonderfully. Like another commenter posted-“it cleans little duckies covered in crude oil”, it’ll clean makeup brushes. I just use the Castile soap because it’s upstairs in my bathroom and the dawn is in the kitchen 🤷🏻‍♀️

    If this helps anyone, you can always find the cleansing mat/egg/mitts at discount stores like Ross, Marshalls &TJ Maxx. Amazon always has them very cheap, but if you don't have a Prime membership then you end up paying a ton for shipping or have to but more than just the 1 item to make it worth it. I also know that Mary Kay and Maskcara sell brush cleansers so if you have a friend who sells those brands, go support them instead of the bigger brands!
