This has to be the best test performance by a test debutant. He scored 78 in the 1st innings too.
One of the best test series ever played a during that decade. AB scored a 33 from 220 balls on the final day.
Aus were a bowler short as James Pattinson broken down early. But Peter Siddle gave it his all in his absence.

People often overlook this Protea team when discussing all time great teams. After completing the "double" in 2008/2009 by beating both England (in England) and Australia (in Australia) they would repeat it in 2012, thereby becoming the only test team to have ever beaten England and Australia at Home in two successive away tours, 2008 and 2012. They had an almighty line-up, led by the indomitable Lion Graeme Smith (described so by Michael Vaughan). To have had that batting line-up of Smith, Peterson, Amla, Kallis, De Villiers, Du Plessis and Duminy with the Bowling Line-up of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander was just incredible. I remember Dale Steyn Being the Number 1 Test ranked Bowler for 6 years, between 2008 and 2014, amounting to 263 weeks being ranked number 1 on the test stage (In comparison, Roger Federer had a 237 week stretch as the number 1 tennis player). Combine that with the batting averages of Smith (48.25), Amla (46.64), Kallis (55.37) and De Villiers (50.66), and you had a team that was extremely difficult to beat.

@@karthiksekar4988 why? This was an inferior attack to the one the Indians played against? Pattinson didn’t bowl at all in the second inning. So they had three frontline bowlers two of who were Hilfenhaus and Siddle. Not really elite
@@user-nk2wl7es5z faf batted for 1.5 days. At that time siddle and hilfenhaus were in the top 10 bowlers ranking. At that time they were the front line bowlers for australia. I think ashwin and vihari batted for 4-5 hours. Faf and ab batted for 596 balls which is equal to 99 overs. It's faf debut match too. So i am highly rating it
@@karthiksekar4988 Vihari had hamstring injury still he took some runs, Ashwin was not even able to stand in the morning but he came to play post tea session...Whereas Du Plessis, De Villiers were fully fit great innings but Vihari nd Ash was better.

@@Tamilt525 He isn't overrrated. He is widely recognized as one of the best players and captains of South Africa. Despite a late debut at the age of 28, he has gone on to make a wonderful career.
pratik naker come on bro. How’d he become captain of SF team if he was underrated player? Especially all formats of the games. He is kinda Amla type player. He plays for himself as well. He killed Steyn and Duminy’s career. He benched Steyn in ODI and made duminy to retire.
@@Tamilt525 you should check out Duminy's career graph. He was constantly part of the team but underperformed every time when given an opportunity. Besides, why wouldn't you play for yourself as well? Under Faf's captaincy SA has constantly featured in the top 3 teams in all formats of the game, they've beat Australia in Australia multiple times, including a white wash. Amla has been the fastest guy to reach 2000,3000,4000,5000,6000,7000 run milestone, but retired only when he was out of form for a while. As far as Steyn is concerned, injury has kept him out. Check out Steyn's interviews if you wish. Check your facts bro.

Shoaib Memon this is the problem with modern day cricket fans. Narrow minded ppl like you always expect top notch cricket from their respective teams. Before the nz debacle, India had been playing some amazing cricket. Even the t20i series in nz was whitewashed by India. You hv absolutely no right to criticise a first rate team like India just bcoz of one odd failure.
If you remember the final test of india tour of England 2018, India had a humongous target to chase(460 odd) and kohli, pujara, vihari, dhawan got out for ducks. That's when kl and pant showed the fighting spirit to win even though we had lost the series. Unfortunately they couldn't get us through like faf and ab did in this video, nonetheless fighting spirit was still there.
