Just bought a Hisense U7H 75” after my Sony 40” FHD of 12 years retired. Am looking at this A7000 but the price is high after including sub and surround. So, thank you for this review. Let me check out the other offerings like the LG S95QR with Meridien and the others in the range. Hisense here told me they have a 7.1 coming out in September.
One of the best features for me is the IR relay; I use the soundbar with a UST projector and have it placed in front of it. Unfortunately, my UST couldn't receive any IR remote signals anymore because of the soundbar. But you can turn on IR pass and the soundbar relays the incoming signal to the projector! That's just fantastic!
Awesome video, after watching your comparison video for the other big sound bars and this one, I think this is what I'll be getting. I'd be interested to see your impression with the new Rs5 rear speakers now that they've added up-firing speakers to them. Sony must have heard the feedback.
the build in subwoofer is only meant for use without the purchase of an actual subwoofer from sony. they used to offer a subwoofer alongside their sounder with a higher price tag (700USD more) and now they made it optional and lowered it reasonably. they expect you to buy the subwoofer but at the mean time want new users to join or purchase sony ecosystem/sony products and I think this is why they have done that.
I bought one and had issues with the sub making a loud popping sound - retuned the sub for a replacement and it still made the noise. It wasn't there every time I used it but at least 50% of the time and when it was, it ruined the experience. Spoke to Sony who weren't helpful and said they had no idea what the sound was and the service stopped there. I tried to persevere and work to fix it with issues and solutions found on line due to interference etc but in the end I returned it because I paid so much for it and to have the above problems with it and Sony, shouldn't be my problem to fix. I bought the Samsung q950a. Not as good looking or sounding but much better value and no sound issues from the sub or any of the speakers.
For an outdoor patio area with back end open to garden, what would be best ? Can the ht-a9 be used outdoors but under cover ? There’s chance of rain and splash for the rears, but can they be shielded against weather ? No sun risk.
12:05 they already have that but with a different model number. it should be sa-rs5 since April 2022. I remember they have a model without the builtin battery or maybe I just messed it up with something else.
Great review! Btw Sony announced rear up-firing speakers for the A7000. Do you think it'll be able to compete with the A9 in terms of immersion and Atmos performance?
Does it make sense to use the soundbar in a bedroom (only soundbar + subwoofer) when there is a wall directly behind the bed? Do you lose the rear sound in that case completely?
Depends. If you are using your surrounds as side surrounds, it could work, sitting on a nightstand, etc. If it is rear surrounds, then it won’t work bc there simply isn’t enough room. hope this helps! ❤
i just ordered the a95l 77" and ht-a7000 soundbar and the sub and the rs5 rear speakers, i was thinking of getting the rs3 rear speakers as it suits the shape of the sub like and the rs5 are round. i see the sound bar is quite a few years old now.
Hey, thanks for the nice review. I'm a PC enthusiast looking to build a simple home theater setup. I just bought a 77" LG C1, which I have hooked up to my PC quite a ways with a pretty cool 50ft HDMI 2.1 Fiber Optic Cable. I love it but the sound could definitely be improved. I am strongly considering this as a way to upgrade the sound quality and keep the options open down the line. I want to go with a single soundbar right now because space is limited, and I live in a small apartment and don't want to bother my neighbors. Maybe in 3-4 years I'll move into a house and grab the subwoofer / rear speakers. Considering this info, this seems like the best soundbar to me. The HT-A9 seems cool but I really can't manage finding spots around my apartment for 4 speakers atm. Same issue with the Samsung Q950A, just no room for all those extra speakers / subwoofer atm. The Sonos Arc seems nice, but I read some complaints about dialogue clarity, and I'm assuming this soundbar is going to be better with dialogue. The HT-A7000 also seems to be the most feature-rich soundbar available atm, which seems fun and useful to me as I like messing around and trying out settings/configs. Do you agree I should go for this soundbar?
You live in a small apartment with a 77” tv? Dang I would say go with the surround sound system and just keep the sub turned down to not disturb neighbors.
I went with a couple of KRK Rockit 7 monitors and a KRK 8 inch sub and then and M audio Controller for the whole thing. even all that is cheaper than this thing and its pretty great. My pc is at my desk but you can put this set up anywhere
I have a Samsung q60r soundbar with sub and all I can say is that the sound sounds alot better than my lg c9 tv speakers, so I'm geussing this sony soundbar would be another big improvement, that's just my geuss
This was a helpful video since I'm looking to replace my old Visio 5.1 soundbar + rears + sub with 7.1 Given the price would it be better to go with a standalone receiver and a non-soundbar speakers or are these new soundbars good enough? The last time I pieced together my own system was when I was a teen around 25 years ago so I'm not really up to speed on state of the art sound.
Did you hear the news Jonah? The HT-A7000 is getting 360 spatial sound mapping, and are getting upfiring rear speakers that look similar to the HT-A9. I’m stoked!
Tried the Beosound stage. The low end is pretty impressive they use the JBL boom box sub idea. The sound quality is very good. But it comes with a price. The surround is bubble is less.
Hi Jonah I'm a little confused with the speaker levels. Can I turn up the dialogue on it just like I would do with a centre speaker on a receiver? I don't have a Sony TV.
Enjoyed the review. I’m kind of a novice but trying to plan ahead for basement remodel. Will the interface for the sound bar that displays on the TV work with a Samsung TV? Also is this able to be mounted to a TV or on the fireplace under the TV without any type of mantel or ledge for it to rest upon? Thank you.
I'm stuck on getting the ht-a5000 or the ht-a7000 I just don't know if the 400$ difference is worth it . But I like the sub and the new atmos rears over the bose 900 setup .
The big question is only going to be solved when you test the HT-A9. Because at the end that one only needs the subwoffer and takes less space and ends up costing the same as buying everything you mentioned in this video.
Sony has a 10% special now for a9 and big sub this Feb. (Australia anyway, maybe USA ?). It’s cheaper than the sound bar and rear speakers and 300w sub.
Hello Mr Jonas Matthes, would you like to impart to us your thoughts and perspectives in Edifier DB350 2.1 or any edifier you might recommend for 5.1 surround listening perspectives. Thanks so much
Am looking to upgrade my soundbar setup (currently a Samsung Q800 w/ sub) and looking at the Sony HT-A9. Would you recomend the A7000 w/ rears or the HT-A9? Would it matter that I’m not hooking this to a Sony TV but a Samsung (S95B)? Have heard of some issues on the A9 lacking a dedicated center channel. Would the A7000 w/ center channels be better? Thanks. I enjoy your unbiased reviews.
great video! i am upgrading my plasma tv to a sony 4k. i currently have a surround system but need to update to dolby atmos. was thinking of the best sound bar out there, but don't want to miss out on anything. for this sony 7000, sub and sub, I can get myself a very nice receiver for about 500 and klipsh dolby surround sound from costco for like 900, and a kilipsh sub for another 300. wouldn't that be a much better sound system?
with all the nice UI on screen, I would love to see an option to add a describption behind the sources (HDMI1 Roku, HDMI2 PS5). For the person that installs the system, knowing what is behind HDMI1/HDMI2 is easy, for the wife and kids that just want to use it would be a nice add on.
I have the HT-A5000 with the RS5s, is it worth taking the A5000 back to Bestbuy and pay the 325.05 difference for the A7000 or try and wait for a sale on the one of the 2 subwoofers? The a7000 is on sale at Bestbuy for 999 and taxes make it a 1083.49
Hi Jonah, is there a big difference between this soundbar and the Samsung - HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch ? I don't know which one to choose. I do have the q90a tv but I am looking for the better sound.
is the Chromecast and Airplay2 always available (like ruku), or does the user have to "switch" manually first? is it full "Chromecast" (with screen cast from desktop browser) or partial like Roku?
Got this system after watching your video on which soundbar is king. I love it so far. Do you know if the system is still using the sound field optimization data once you switch over to manual? Also, I say you increased the up-firing dB level to 3.0. Did you find this made a difference?
@@ARIN4UK Arin, I have been sticking with the Sound Field Optimization option rather than manual. I have not had time to do any real testing and was wondering if other had.

Can you do a review on the Philips Fidelio B97, I know they are hard to find. I have the older model with the removable side speakers much like the JBL, it was great for it's time, but it does not have Dolby Atmos. Hope you can help me with this.
Hi Jonah, I’m a subscriber of yours I have recently purchased a Q900A. The audio started becoming muffled all of a sudden (as it’s underwater) after a while of use, when on 3D audio eArc mode. I tried it on another TV (which has an eArc port) in our house and the issue persists. I also tried different sound modes through the Smart Things App, but didn't fix the issue. The malfunction isn't consistent, it's intermittent. Whenever I unplug and plug it goes away for a while, then comes back either after hours of use, or days of use. However, most of the time the sound will remain muffled. Given the above explanation of what the issue is, would you be able to suggest what parts should be replaced? Your assistance on this matter would mean the world to me. Best Regards,
I would definitely reach out to Samsung support regarding this issue. You can try performing a full reset on the soundbar to see if that fixes it, otherwise, it sounds like something is defective. Samsung support should be able to help more with this! Hope you can get this issue resolved!
I have my soundbar connected directly to the TV and I play netflix from there and as you mentioned you can only do HDMI ARC but I want to connect it using HDMI alone, what is the solution? hopefully I can hear back from you

But I can't say that this soundbar sounds much better. Noothing special after one week together. I'm still waiting for the SA-RS3S rear speakers and hope to finally get a good picture
@@fiscustom5893 I’m a week into the 7000/sw5/sr5 package and I’m probably returning mine, too. There’s really nothing about this setup that justifies a $2900 price tag. The Atmos virtualization is practically non-existent, the surrounds are weak, and the center channel is low, dull and can’t be adjusted. Going to hook my Elevate back up. It’s a much better system all around.
@@fiscustom5893 I would really like to think so. Been on with Sony tech multiple times and the experience just isn’t there. Just one example….the fact that you can’t increase the volume of the center channel on a $1400 sound bar is completely asinine. I’m not talking simply hitting the “voice” button. I went into manual settings and did the test tone and you can see that there is no option for the center. What are your settings? I’d really like to make this work for me - PS4, x90j, x800m2……so I’d like to stay in the ecosystem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
*EDIT TO MY ABOVE COMMENT* Sony had an update the other day that really seemed to take things up a notch. Currently watching LOTR (Fellowship) on 4K disc and everything sounds delightful! Yes! It has 2 HDMI 2.1 inputs. I'm sure it will happen one day, but then again, you could always use an HDMI switch if needed. Might be easier to plug a few devices into the soundbar, then the others into your TV.
@@JonahMatthes That's awesome to hear its got 2 hdmi 2.1 input, that's alot better than 1, I use a hdmi 2.1 splitter currently and its solid, really like it so might buy another one or get one with more hdmi inputs as mine only has 2 hdmi 2.1 inputs.
Sir Jonah thanhs giving us a review of A7000 this was a helpful tips to us before buying a sound bar, more power to sir Jonah
the build in subwoofer is only meant for use without the purchase of an actual subwoofer from sony. they used to offer a subwoofer alongside their sounder with a higher price tag (700USD more) and now they made it optional and lowered it reasonably. they expect you to buy the subwoofer but at the mean time want new users to join or purchase sony ecosystem/sony products and I think this is why they have done that.
Hey, have you tested if the HT-A7000 can be used in an Amazon Alexa multi room audio group?
I bought one and had issues with the sub making a
loud popping sound - retuned the sub for a
replacement and it still made the noise. It wasn't
there every time I used it but at least 50% of the time
and when it was, it ruined the experience. Spoke to
Sony who weren't helpful and said they had no idea
what the sound was and the service stopped there. I
tried to persevere and work to fix it with issues and
solutions found on line due to interference etc but in
the end I returned it because I paid so much for it
and to have the above problems with it and Sony,
shouldn't be my problem to fix.
I bought the Samsung q950a. Not as good looking
or sounding but much better value and no sound
issues from the sub or any of the speakers.
Great review! I have this whole system and I do find the surround speakers lacking. Maybe placement is the issue.
Could be the placement, can also try adjusting the levels and distance settings in Sony’s UI.
I want upward forward bouncing speakers to the Sonos Ones. Thanks for the great review of the Sony soundbar.
bose 900 vs a7000, which one do you prefer?
For an outdoor patio area with back end open to garden, what would be best ? Can the ht-a9 be used outdoors but under cover ? There’s chance of rain and splash for the rears, but can they be shielded against weather ? No sun risk.
We're did you get light next to the tv
12:05 they already have that but with a different model number. it should be sa-rs5 since April 2022. I remember they have a model without the builtin battery or maybe I just messed it up with something else.
Great review! Btw Sony announced rear up-firing speakers for the A7000. Do you think it'll be able to compete with the A9 in terms of immersion and Atmos performance?
I've ordered the soundbar and the sub but waiting for the SA-RS5 rear surround speakers to be released.
Brilliant video you have helped me make my mind up thank you
Ps what was the film clip off the car driving
Thank again
Ford vs Ferrari
i just ordered the a95l 77" and ht-a7000 soundbar and the sub and the rs5 rear speakers, i was thinking of getting the rs3 rear speakers as it suits the shape of the sub like and the rs5 are round. i see the sound bar is quite a few years old now.
If you are using the build in bass speakers of the soundbar you should probably have it at the front edge of the cabinet.
Dang
I would say go with the surround sound system and just keep the sub turned down to not disturb neighbors.
Bruh HT-A9 n add sub later
I went with a couple of KRK Rockit 7 monitors and a KRK 8 inch sub and then and M audio Controller for the whole thing. even all that is cheaper than this thing and its pretty great. My pc is at my desk but you can put this set up anywhere
I have a Samsung q60r soundbar with sub and all I can say is that the sound sounds alot better than my lg c9 tv speakers, so I'm geussing this sony soundbar would be another big improvement, that's just my geuss
Hi Jonah, I was wondering if you can add more then one SW5 to the system?
Great video man!
Hi Jonah
I'm a little confused with the speaker levels. Can I turn up the dialogue on it just like I would do with a centre speaker on a receiver? I don't have a Sony TV.
This is Best of the Best. 7.1.2 channels with built in subwoofer. built in subwoofer is actually good. save space than swap whole room of space.
Which did you pick? Im debating on which also
The big question is only going to be solved when you test the HT-A9.
At the 8:16 mark what was the demo on the display, a game or movie?
Just bought it after seeing this video.. which streaming service do you all recommend for Dolby Atmos music listening? Tidal, Amazon or Apple Music?
great video! i am upgrading my plasma tv to a sony 4k. i currently have a surround system but need to update to dolby atmos. was thinking of the best sound bar out there, but don't want to miss out on anything. for this sony 7000, sub and sub, I can get myself a very nice receiver for about 500 and klipsh dolby surround sound from costco for like 900, and a kilipsh sub for another 300. wouldn't that be a much better sound system?
with all the nice UI on screen, I would love to see an option to add a describption behind the sources (HDMI1 Roku, HDMI2 PS5). For the person that installs the system, knowing what is behind HDMI1/HDMI2 is easy, for the wife and kids that just want to use it would be a nice add on.
Would this sound bar be compatible with a kdl-55hx701? At this price range for this sound bar I am looking for feedback before making the move thanks
I have the HT-A5000 with the RS5s, is it worth taking the A5000 back to Bestbuy and pay the 325.05 difference for the A7000 or try and wait for a sale on the one of the 2 subwoofers? The a7000 is on sale at Bestbuy for 999 and taxes make it a 1083.49
@jonah mathes- Can you pair more than one sub and more than one pair of speakers with the A7000?
What does the DTS neural X sound option do?
AND THE BEST SOUND BAR IS:
THE NAKAMICHI SHOKEWAFE SOUNDBAR. THE WINNER FOR 2 CONSECUTIVE YEARS.
did you calibrate your subwoofer with the couch placement crawl method?
Hi Jonah, is there a big difference between this soundbar and the Samsung - HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch ? I don't know which one to choose. I do have the q90a tv but I am looking for the better sound.
I’m thinking about downgrading from my nakamichi 9.2.4 cause I hate having speakers everywhere.
is the Chromecast and Airplay2 always available (like ruku), or does the user have to "switch" manually first?
is it full "Chromecast" (with screen cast from desktop browser) or partial like Roku?
Got this system after watching your video on which soundbar is king. I love it so far.
Do you know if the system is still using the sound field optimization data once you switch over to manual? Also, I say you increased the up-firing dB level to 3.0. Did you find this made a difference?
Hi Alex, after 3 weeks do you have any recommended settings??? Thanks
@@ARIN4UK Arin, I have been sticking with the Sound Field Optimization option rather than manual. I have not had time to do any real testing and was wondering if other had.
At 8:15 mark is that a game on the tv or movie? Please help me out here.
Jonah My Sony A7000 dont inform wen dolby atmos on ..... Is normal???? I dont have the sub yet
Great review jonahs! Detailed and well informative. How does music sound in general? Better then sonos/samsung?
Are you able to use 2 subwoofers with it? Like 2 Sa-sw5?
Yes! You can use either 2 SA-SW5 subs or 2 SA-SW3 subs with it. Can’t do one of each though, they have to match.
I have the entire setup, everything sounds awesome turned up, but the dialogue isn't the greatest especially when action packed scenes are happening. Center channel there isn't a way to turn up that i found. You have a voice button that helps. I'll be returning this unit.
Can you hook up an old subwoofer that only has a RCA input
Can you do a review on the Philips Fidelio B97, I know they are hard to find. I have the older model with the removable side speakers much like the JBL, it was great for it's time, but it does not have Dolby Atmos. Hope you can help me with this.
We want you review Sony HT-A9 & Subwoofer SW5
I live in a place where internet is expensive and charged by the GB, do you know if I need even decent quality internet to use this system?
Hi Jonah,
I’m a subscriber of yours
I have recently purchased a Q900A.
@@JonahMatthes Thank you for your reply. I will do as advised.
Nice review. To confirm, this sound bar only has two HDMI inputs?
Hey, is this sound bar better than Sonos Arc???
How do you compare with nakamichi soundwafe 7.1.2?
I have my soundbar connected directly to the TV and I play netflix from there and as you mentioned you can only do HDMI ARC but I want to connect it using HDMI alone, what is the solution? hopefully I can hear back from you
After various views on TH-cam, I sold my amazing Samsung Q950A and bought this one with a Sony SW5. I was sure that sound of the Sony will be really great and unrepetable. But I can't say that this soundbar sounds much better. Noothing special after one week together. I'm still waiting for the SA-RS3S rear speakers and hope to finally get a good picture
I’m not real impressed with it either I have the complete setup, I tried the Bose and returned it. I’m debating trying the Sonos Arc
@@Barleyleg you have something setup wrong. I just got done watching Ambulance and that shit was AWESOME.
Thanks!!
*EDIT TO MY ABOVE COMMENT*
Sony had an update the other day that really seemed to take things up a notch. Currently watching LOTR (Fellowship) on 4K disc and everything sounds delightful! I still stand by my disdain regarding the (lack of) center channel adjustment, but overall this setup is growing on me at a rapid pace.
What TV do you have?
Sir. which.is.best sony.S40 vs Yamaha 1840 music system? Confused in buying
In wich cases this setup is better than Sonos Arc?
Of you dont want to buy subwoofer
I don't really agree with your built in sub statement. Obviously nothing compared you a dedicated sub, but this soundbar does an incredible job on it's own
Will this thing last over 2 years? My Sony classic 5.1 HT systems are screwing up just before they reach 2 years of underutilization, and I aint happy.
I am on the fence between a7 vs Sonos bundle. I have a dedicated HT but looking for a sound system for my living room. I would appreciate any comments which will help me decide which sound system to go for.
Can you please make a review of denon 550 soundbar there seem to be lack of reviews of that soundbar. maybe with the subwoofer aswell
Is it better than the sonos arc?
You have any guide on how to add this sony hta7000 sound-bar to Alexa? I can only work it with bluetooth. There should be more and i am not sure if my country selection limits it
Why when I’m watching movies like on Netflix, Apple TV it only gives me Dolby Atmos 48KHZ? So you have the same?
The Main board on my ST-HT5000 Broke recently making my sound bar useless.. will the Subwoofer on the old ST-HT5000 be compatible with the new HTA7000 Sound bar?????? Does anyone know the Answer to this Question???
Does this soundbar have 2 hdmi 2.1 inputs? Imagine if there was a soundbar with 4 hdmi 2.1 inputs 🤯 would be ideal as I have a PC, Xbox, ps5, Nintendo switch
My lg c9 has slight audio delay with earc so gonna try get everything through the soundbar. Ever since my friend said he noticed audio delay its been noticeable since then lol and he isn't even into tech as much as me
@@brandonlee7382 Planning a video in the near future that may help with this. Basically, how to troubleshoot and fix HDMI ARC issues. Not foolproof because some TV’s just don’t handle ARC well for some reason, but I think it’ll be helpful for a lot of people.
@@JonahMatthes yeah that should be helpful, I'm not sure if there is a way to fix lg but I may be surprised. I appreciate everything you do, you do God's work 👍
Where is this sound bar made?
I got this sound bar I am going to sell my surround speakers when the new SR RS5 speakers come out. That will complete the my system.
Anyone here with the RS3S rear speakers having connection issue with this HTA7000? they do connect but for my case, the audio dropped once a while in quite a short interval...so it's not really once a while...quite often... and eventually the solution I found is to turn off the wifi for my soundbar... I guess it helps a bit to reduce any signal interference... kinda annoying i have to off the wifi but for now, that's the configuration that works for me....
do you have possibility to compare philips fidelio 97B with samsung HW Q950A or Sony HT-A7000. or may be someone has such expirience? would be great see your comments
Can you link 2 sub woofers to this bar? maybe the 2 cheaper subs would be better then1 expensive sub...
Checking with Sony on this. My gut feeling is no, you can’t, otherwise I’m sure it would be listed somewhere. But I’ll check either way because I’m curious too!
Any idea if this would fit under an a80j 77 inch when the stand is switched into sound bar mode?
I just did this, and yes, it barely fits. It has to sit in the stand legs but still barely clears, since the bottom screen bezel is thicker.
Thanks for this review. I’ve been leaning towards the Samsung Q950a (as I think you were previously) and now have this on the top of my list. I like the idea of the bar + sun to start with and maybe Sony will listen to you and others about adding the up-firing drivers on the rear surrounds in the near future.
Any idea if the current surround grilles can be removed in order to paint them? (WAF…)
Happy you enjoyed the video! Sony actually annouced surrounds with upward-firing speakers recently! They're called the Sony SA-RS5. $600 for the pair, but they aren't released yet, so I'm not sure how good they actually are...You could totally remove the surround grilles and paint them btw.
Y does my sub sound like it isnt hitting hard? I did a little research and disabled the “audio DRC” and that seemed to help somewhat but curious of im missing something else and if disabling DRC is recommended. Hope someone can help me out with some settings i might be missing, after spending over $2,000 was expecting this thing to blow my roof off.
You should compere Nakamichi shockwafe ultra 9.2.4 to 2021 soundbars
Because it priced at 900$ if it refurbished
I have the Nakamichi. I just bought the HT-A9 and now I'm selling my Nakamichi.

Not going to lie. If it was available I would have gone with the ht-a9 , but I've been waiting months 😅

I just picked one up from that “blue”electronics store, open box like new for a tad over $700. Can’t wait to set it up.
I have a 5.1 Denon/B&W set up from long ago that I never put in the new house as the basement is mult-purpose and I didn’t want speakers everywhere. Hope the Atmos is fun!
Great video!
Thanks Jonah for the review, I own the previous Sony HT ST 5000, can you please ask Sony if they have any plans to add rear speakers on that as well. I have asked them but Sony never responds.
I will definitely ask. Will be difficult to find your comment again, if I find out though. Hit me up on my contact form on my website.
Excellent video bro. Q: The Wi-Fi connection to perform the pairing must always be stable? Because I live in Latin America and my wifi connection sucks. So before I spend $2,600 I would like to know that information so I don't throw my money away.
Does Sony Hta-7000 sound bar work with LG C2 Evo OLED TV?
Yes
can you hook up two sub woofers to the system?
No
I started reading reviews of this system and it seems that it 'freezes' up quite frequently. Would you please address this.
I've had the system for almost a year and never experienced any freezing.
How does this compare against the Sennheiser soundboard?
Sennheiser way better. No comparison.
How is it compared with samsung 950a?
