we bought the Bose 900 on offer at €699 for our cinema room which is average size a couple of weeks ago and love the sound very immersive for the size of our room. My partner has a hearing problem that means excessive bass is very painful to him, so the standalone sound bar with adjustable internal bass was ideal. the shop demonstrated the bar with and without both bose subwoofers and to us the bar alone was ideal.

I recently got both Bose (900 SB + 700 BM) and Samsung 990 (SB, BM & 2 speakers) to try out for my home theater. I’d seen reviews saying the Samsung is as good as, or better than the Bose and I was attracted to the much lower cost of the Samsung set up plus the fact that I was pairing it with a Samsung TV. However, I ended up keeping the Bose and returning the Samsung because the Bose hands down had better, richer, more immersive sound that hit you from everywhere. Maybe it’s the size of the room - it is a pretty large, 2-story room with 4 ceiling fans - but the difference was so profound, I honestly don’t see how anyone could’ve put the 2 systems in the same class. Maybe the Samsung performs better in smaller spaces, I don’t know, but I’ve chosen the Bose and I’ll get the Bose speakers to complete my setup although it already out-performs the Samsung by far, without the extra speakers. I can’t speak for the other brands but I’m totally happy with my Bose.

The average UK home has a much smaller living room than the US. This is a UK channel, and to be honest, all of these sound bars are probably overkill. The likes of the Dragon or separate AV setups are great if you have a larger room or home cinema, but the vast majority of us don't. This is why we like a simple sound bar of which these chosen ones are ideal. Good choice and good video for most Uk buyers.

    • @eafortson
      @eafortson 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Meh possibly. It would he good to compare. A system with a superior crossover and sound separation but less power (wattage) would still sound better than a system with garbage crossover, eq, crossover but higher wattage.
So knowing if these brands which sell in the UK actually compare in the various other evaluating metrics would be beneficial to know of the U.K. Market is comparable or just getting over charged with less quality offerings.

With only one soundbar offering full 4k/120 Hz Pass-through, the HT-A7000 would be my winner (I currently use the A5000 which for my living room provides more than enough room filling sound by itself), and with a recent firmware update now also supports VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (auto-low latency mode) capabilities making it and the A5000 the most versatile soundbars for every entertainment need.

One could even purchase height speakers to have the full NON-VIRTUAL Dolby Atmos experience. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!

You get slightly better atmos for 5 Times more money. Been there, done that. The latest soundbars like the samsung q990b is like a samsung s23 ultra camera. It is very good compared to a traditional camera (avr) but in a modern and compackt package. Wont replace a cinema room for 10 Times less money, but will sound 80% similar to a 5 Times more expensive avr dolby truehd atmos setup in an average room... you just need to place the speakers slightly above ear level. You cant even buy a truehd atmos receiver from the price of the 11.1.4 channel soundbar. So it is destroying any avr that is not atmos, because it can reproduce the bubble effect for so cheap.

I used to own the Bose 900, and Sonos handle the Atmos much better. On the Sonos, dialogue is VERY clear with music and atmosperic sounds clearly differenciated, bullets flying and helicopters, you feel like you're in the middle of a warzone in a war movie such as Dune or Avengers. On Bose 900, it struggled to handle the bass and dialogue. The Sonos however has one downside. If you are not techy, you're doomed. It is App controlled only and if your internet resets, or power goes out, you need to set it up again all over again. BIG HEADACHE! So be aware of that.

In terms of sound, they are similar, but Sonos handles spartial audio better and more well tuned voice seperation. Bose system has very high Bass, and lacks treble control. When watching movie during atmos, it has a hard time controlling voice with music on primary channel. I have the Sony HT-A7000. A few reasons to really like this unit, dialog is SUPER clear. I have had ZERO issues with being able to clearly hear dialog, having watched a wide variety of content on this unit, this fact has impressed me. Surround effects are not so good, even with the higher end rears with the upfiring speakers (which I have), but then again, I have always felt atmos to be somewhat gimmicky. As to having a full range of sound, this is another aspect I really like. I do not feel like I need the sub and this was the primary reason I purchased this soundbar. I didnt want to shake pictures off the wall, I just wanted to have enough low end to hear things like low brass, percussion, etc and this soundbar exceeds my expectations in this regard, by a huge margin. At some point, I will pick up the sub, just to complete the system, but I dont feel like I need it, the sound is full and rich, providing bass in what I would consider to be the equivalent of good quality 8-10 inch drivers you would expect from good quality bookshelf speakers, without it being boomy and shaking windows. 4K passthru is another huge plus, considering how many soundbars are listed in this video without it, and that this is one of the only with it, this is a big deal to me.

I guess I'm biased because I've not had the opportunity to listen to other soundbar setups, but I absolutely love my Sonos setup. I have the Arc, two ERA 300's and Sub Gen 3. I love the ecosystem and the whole home aspect of adding additional speakers in other rooms or being able to upgrade to newer products as Sonos releases them without having to buy a whole new setup. Dolby Atmos content is always hit or miss for me especially with music. I still feel like its a new toy that has not fully matured in the consumer space yet. It can sometimes sound bad or gimmicky if not used correctly. I can't wait to see what Sonos does with there next major Soundbar release.

Jus bought the Bose ultra soundbar, 700 sub and 300 series surround speaker since they were going for a super good deal. Paid $1,600 for the whole setup. I gotta say it sounds insanely good. For anyone using Bose surround speakers. Make sure you cover the surround speakers with a few socks before you AI cali rate your system. This tricks the calibration system which pushes the surround speakers to its full potential. You can always personally make fine adjustments after calibration which I highly suggest. Trust me it’s an insane system if you’re not a die hard audiophile. I like really good clear sound with a nice bass punch and when you put the whole system together it comes alive.

Louis@SHS - Your review of the Sennheiser Ambeo Plus is incorrect. There is a major defect with this soundbar where the top panel stops working and heats up. Also the Ambeo feature gets disabled. Sennheiser are aware of this... This is a defective product that Sennheiser have launched and are keeping quite about it... I have now had 4 units in the space of 15 months and all suffer the same.
Sennheiser should be doing a product recall to fix the problem... The soundbar is not fit for its purpose.

You won't lose any features, the biggest issue that might occur (and I see it a lot) is mainly for Atmos gaming as you can get audio sync issues that may not be an issue with HDMI 2.1. Blu-ray players and cable TV don't need HDMI 2.1. It's primarily for gaming. All you need is to make sure the soundbar and TV both have eARC, but when gaming, I cannot say whether you'll have audio delay issues. I've heard PS5 is less or not prone to it whereas Xbox is.

Hello, I currently have a 5.1 System with an old AVR. I would like to switch to Dolby Atmos technology and enjoy having overhead sounds.
I do not have the possibility of installing speakers in the ceiling (I know that it is the best option in conjunction with a Dolby Atmos AVR).
Is a Dolby Atmos soundbar with rear speakers (like the Samsung HW-Q990C) worth it? Can this type of soundbar make you feel sounds above your head? Or will this change not be better than my current 5.1 system?
The TV room has a 9-foot (2.8-meter) high flat ceiling.
    Thank you so much!

    • @mrchiledonut
      @mrchiledonut 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, anywhere between 7.5 to 12 feet will work. Many audiophiles or companies that set home theaters up will agree that upfiring is not optimal, however, it is better than standard 5.1 and you can still hear things coming overhead, it just won't be as precise (as in, you won't be able to point exactly where the sound came from other than its general direction, which is not necessarily bad mind you). For it to work, make sure you set the speakers up in the right positions, and of course, your room will dictate how it sounds, from its shape, to what you have on the walls, etc. If you can put speakers behind you, not just to the sides, get a 7.1.4 or more, but if you have your seating against a wall, get a 5.1.4.

The Bose does have side firing compressions drivers in plain sight (phase guides).

JBL has a great soundbar for music, but for dialog it's too much bass. I'm getting the BOSE ultra so I can move our JBL soundbar to our kitchen setup where dialog is less important and music is.

Exactly right. My Fiancé and I listened to a long list of sounds bars and individual speakers. The Beosound Theatre blew them all away.

Or the Beosound Stage… we are pretty happy with the Stage as a all in one solution, we do listen to a lot of music, and in my opinion that is where the Stage does really well!

So I’m looking to upgrade from a LG SN8YG. I narrowed it down to the ARC and the Bose smart 900. The thing that pulled to to LG was vocal clarity. So I like the Bose for that but I like the full and sound stage of the ARC…
I read and watched a ton of reviews but I’m still torn… I don’t think I could go wrong with either but I feel like after a while the Sonos might feel a little muffled or muddy..
    Any opinions?

I have the Bose 900 and for me personally it does not disappoint. I guess it's all what you want in a sound bar, for me the dialogue clarity is what I was looking for. The base although not huge, is great and when I'm playing my video games I really find the upfront speakers immersive and very impressive. I came from an LG 2.1 system (older and not nearly as advanced) and I was completely blown away by the Bose. I'm sure you cannot go wrong with either one you choose but for crystal clear clarity and immersiveness I would go with the Bose! Just my thoughts, I hope you find the perfect sound bar for your needs! All the best.

It's a personal thing sound. I have never got the whole bose sound. Nothing they have made sounded right to my ears. Go listen somewhere to different setups, and you decide.

@@halfclappertopchedda Hey thanks for the reply! I heard these in the store before I bought the LG and went with it because it sounded the most clear. I want to downsize to just a bar and maybe a sub. I guess I’ll just have to listen to them again at the store and make a choice. I hear the new smart Bose 900 is very clear…

@@Ade85 I remember listening to both the Bose and Sonos a couple years ago and thought the LG had better vocal clarity. Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely go a give a them another listen. Do you have the ARC?

I have the whole Bose 900 set up with surround speakers and base. It sounds like you in a movies. U hear doors open and close from right to left. My wife hate it because it makes you feel like somebody is in the house

I'm still using a Klipsch ICON I bought 8 yrs ago for 250 usd it's not the best sounding sound bar and it is limited in features but it sounds so much better than the TV speakers 👍I can afford any of these sound bars in the vid but I'm just too damn cheap 😂

Far too much for the average uk home. It's like buying a lorry to nip to the shops. In the US with their bigger homes then maybe ok.

@Ade85 my system will peak at 2350 watts of amplification, so less than the Dragon. But more than that, isn't the central thing the sound clarity? Let's say the Dragon is extremely well engineered from the sound perspective, that means it's a better option than a more budget friendly soudbar with less power output and clarity. The Dragon would just happen to also be able to be a speaker for quite a large party hall. Let me know what you think.

The dragon is overrated, at that price and that warranty I don't trust it specially comparing it to user feedback vs reviewer feedback. For that money is so much better to go the home theater route

It’s 4 grand! What a joke. I cannot believe people are taking that thing seriously. If you spend that kind of money on a soundbar you need to get your head examined.

When you have Ambeo mode turned off on the Ambeo Plus, it upmixes two-channel stereo. Sennheiser confirmed this via an email query earlier this year. It's shocking news really, as nearly every review outlet preferred the upmixed stereo... yuck. Ambeo mode is the only way to engage the centre speaker, thus the only way to get an accurate representation of 5.1/7.1.4/etc.
