  • Need to learn how to replace your IGNITION SWITCH on your 1999-2014 Hyundai Sonata? Well, then this video is for you. If I can do it...you can do it!
    -This video is certainly on the longer side; feel free to skip around. I'd rather the viewer have more than enough tips/tricks to tackle this job. If the cost is to make you suffer through more of my talking, then so be it.
    -The vehicle I worked on in this video was a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS

    Thank you so much for this video, I had the same repair on my 2008 Sonata, and this video was perfect in helping me thru the replacement of the Ignition Switch.

    I'm helping a family member replace his worn out cylinder. The issue is that the key often just won't turn. My question is how can we remove the old cylinder if the key won't turn to acc/start to depress the pin?

    Yay!!! I did it...
    Someone tried to steal my 2011 Hyundai Accent about a month ago. I ordered a replacement ignition lock cylinder (with keys) via Walmart for $31, and it arrived in less than a week. The hardest part was wiggling my old key into the acc position, so I could remove the vandalized part. Aside from the delivery time and my apprehensive procrastination, the actual replacement took less than 30 minutes.

    Awesom video. Can you get a key fob to lock and unlock the car or do you have to unlock it manually? I have a 2009 Sonata

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can get a new key fob; you just have to reprogram it for your car. I don't know the process off hand. There might be other videos on that.

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure. But look at the website (in the description) and see if you can find the replacement part. Before you order it, see if you can remove the panel/access the ignition switch on your car. If you can, I think you know the answer to your question.

      "Need" may be subjective in all honesty. You are working with the airbag: i personally would rather be safe and not accidentally activate the airbag and have it deploy while you're working on it.

    Ok what if you have lost the old set of keys so you cant turn the ignition .how do you get it out?

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm gonna presume you have a few options: 1) bring it to a locksmith so they can turn it for you (or youtube it and see if it's something you can do with a lock picking set. 2) bring it to a dealer/mechanic. 3) see (google/youtube) if there is some type of universal key that can enable you to turn it. 4) use some type of brute force/cut off something that holds the switch in place (though i don't recommend this option). 5) i presume no spare keys or anything?

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The new key will be cut different than the one you have, so you will need two keys, an unfortunate caveat. The key fob, or any key fob not connected to your car, needs to be synced/programmed to your specific vehicle. There should be some basic steps in other videos/youtube/car repair manuals

      What car and year is it?
      Honestly, I don't know. I would look for the switch on the 1aauto website and inspect the pictures. You can compare it to the one in the video and go from there. If it's similar or appears the same perhaps it shouldn't be too far off. Maybe the paneling might be slightly differently shaped, but look around to see how it attaches compared to the one i showed

    My 2014 Accent ignition switch was vandalized by thieves. I am trying to depress the the little button to release the cylinder but it's not letting go. Does it have to be in ACC mode in order for this to work?? Unfortunately, they damaged it so badly there is no way to do this.

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't believe someone would do that. That's terrible. The ACC mode is the only position (that I am aware of) where that button can be depressed (due to the shape/engineering of the part). As I'm not a mechanic, you might want to consult a mechanic (at least for guidance on what to do). Is the cylinder stuck in a position that is not ACC?

    So what you’re saying is the ignition has to work in order to take it out??? What if when I put the key in it just moves freely, no positions to click into.

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If the ignition is stuck and can't move, which does seem to occur for many people, my guidance ends there as I am not knowledgeable enough to answer that. If it moves free but does not click, as seems to be the case with you, I would think (though I could be wrong) that that would not be a problem. I say this because turning the key and putting it in a certain position allows a pin to be depressed (as shown in the video) and it can only occur if the key is in a certain position. I wouldn't think it matters if the key "clicks in position " only that in CAN go in the position noted in the video. Though if you attempt this, I am curious to know if that is the case.

    I can't believe nobody's run into this yet on a 2014 era or so Hyundai Elantra /sonata ...if the key gets stuck in the ignition and it's not a shift lock release problem... then disconnect the battery...that's the only way the keys going to come out untill repaired
