I have owned a Firebox for three years, while this may be my first burn in this box I have used my other exclusively for the last 3 years • Folding Firebox Stove,... www.fireboxstov...
Thank you Bob, it actually works well to simmer or a lower heat cooking. Seems like stainless works the best at transferring the heat though. Thanks for watching
Ahhhhhh Man!!! That looks GOOD! Nicely done Nathan! Beyond the great looking food, I dig how you highlighted that you can use the sides heat as well. Nice!
Looked absolutely delicious. And I really like Cornish hens. Liked subbed and will be going through your playlists later today. Thanks for sharing and ATB Mike
Your right about that, the reason I chose it was that he has a TH-cam channel and he helps with ideas. My new video shows what I'll be doing next, cooking three things at the same time with the Firebox. The new video I kinda cooked three things at the same time, but I actually heated cheese and chilli for frito pie boiled water on top. But I just got a folding grill I want to use on the side cooking meat with the radiant heat, bake dessert on top, coffee on the other side
Great thing with the firebox is after cooking you can move it around with the provided fire sticks, bring it under a well ventilated tarp and use the leftover heat from the coals as a brazier.
jbutzi that pot was the 16cm Zebra Billy Pot, large enough to cook and bake small game. That black carbon felt material works really well as a heat shield or barrier, as well as the included ash pan that also helps. But no, it didn’t make a burn mark on the stump
I believe so, the only other one I had considered is the 180 stove, and I just got the Firebox Nano I cant wait to test a little in the field for day hikes. My family really enjoys this stove at the beach and day outings on the river. Thanks for watching
scott smith I disagree on the lump. I have since found a way to stack these that makes it even more efficient. The egg is pretty cool, I have one too. I used to have a Bushbox but I gave it away, the Firebox is a lot more versatile, as far as a packing stove I like my Nano, again versatility
@@n8mayfield egg is very nice. I have the XL bush box and the Firebox…..they are "basically" the same, except bush box is more affordable and bush box doesn't nickel you to death like the Firebox peeps. Just my two cents. Not hating…..firebox is nice and so is the XL Bushbox. Oh, i also bought the Coffee spit…..pretty worthless, takes WAYYY to much time and effort to cook something simple.
Great idea! I enjoy Cornish hen more than hubs but your video may have helped win a convert! I usually cut in half for crisper outside and faster cooking, fyi. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you Carol, thats a great idea, I have yet to try it that way and it makes perfect sense. As my wife sucked the whole thing down, haha, I will cut the next one in half
Great American Survival thank you, I really appreciate that. it has become a regular request from the wife. I have 4 of those hens in the freezer right now haha
Great idea in using charcoal but the wood gave the last touch. The chicken looks tasty and I could smell it...😂. Where did you get the carbon felt? I need to buy one. Nice video.
Thank you Carlos, I got that from the Firebox website when I ordered the stove, it was only a couple bucks. The chicken turned ot great, I wished there were such thing as smell-a-vision haha, I was salivating after I took a bite, standing over it for the better part of an hour
Good review man. I would have been curious to see what would happen if you fed new charcoal in the top through the flap. Wood is also cool. I just received my Gen2 box. Can't wait to try it out.
Thank you Joe, I actually did feed a few off camera through the top, but like I said it took alot more than I had expected. But I think the advantage to the charcoal was that its slow and steady, keeping the heat from fluctuating like gas would. But the results of the finished product were truly delicious. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, thank you for watching
Im a little late to the video but i had a question about the time it took to cook the hen and how much wood you added after it died out? Did my first burn today using wood for some turkey burgers. Great vid man!!!
b wooten it takes about an hour and fifteen to an hour and thirty minutes at a lower to medium heat. I wanted to keep the heat on the lower side and the charcoal really helped out with that. Loaded to the top with charcoal I think lasted close to fifty minutes. When I added wood it took the heat up for the last thirty or so minutes and it also helped Brown the skin as well. If I were to cook with just wood, I’d load it using the Swedish torch method but not start cooking till the flames would be gone, and right before the coals died I’d add sticks to the bottom feed. It turned out really good though, my wife asks for this often. If you try it let me know
you and the stove under a tarp, stove near the edge, some rocks around the stove Chicken on the flame hot coffee next to the fire box that sure would be nice
PHARRAOH I agree, it is way better after trekking in off the trail. Using wood was a little fidgety cooking do that long, and these hens stay frozen for a while. I'll have to check out that Vargo Stove
scott smith don’t get as much heat out of a smaller box, and I’ve had boxes with that big hole, not only did you get a lot of heat loss but you couldn’t pack it as high, because fuel fell out of the hole on to the ground. So the big hole only gives you half the stove and heat
scott smith I think it is when you account for that hole in the front. Like I said I had one and it hindered how much the box could actually hold, and while the preload may be the same I found a lot of fuel fall out the feed hole on my bushbox
That bowl I found at the thrift store for a dollar. It's stainless steel. I took my pot in the store with me to make sure it would fit. That rack cae from the Asian market and is sold as a steamer rack for two dollars. I have another video cand My Billy Pot and camp cookware I think its called where I go over what I put in it. Thanks for watching
goatr1120 the purple bags are Crown Royale Whiskey bags I got from my neighbor who is a bar tender. The pouch I used is the Maxpedition Beefy I'm pretty sure. I've also made a video on that
The pan came from the thrift store, I actually took my pot in and found a match for .50 cents. The oven rack I use came from an Asian market, called and sold as a steamer rack, they do make and sell different sizes, so if you have the smaller pot you can get one to fit, cost was I think 2 dollar's
This pot holds 3 quarts an inch away from the very top. Its the most versitile pot I have, and the most inexpensive I'm pretty sure. But the main reason I got that one is because I could fit a rabbit, squirrel, or bird in it. Hahaha, I dont want some tiny micro pot. Its the 16cm Zebra Billy Pot or Loop Handle Pot. Was only 20 bucks on Amazon
Very nicely done Nathan! Looked delicious! Your dry-baking finesse and patience really paid off. I'm so glad you're liking the G2 Firebox!
Thank you Steve, really happy with it, and the Nano
Never thought about boiling water next to the firebox, great tip I will have to try that. Thanks for the video.

Thank you Joe, I really appreciate that. It was a fun video for sure
There's this new invention out now called gloves. I think Firefighters use them when dealing with hot stuff.
Dano Stiltmano that sounds amazing. Do you have a link to where I can find these magical items?!
Timely suggestions! Fingers can also be saved by using a couple of small wood branches since they burn slower than human flesh.
@@n8mayfield I have a set of Dragonfire Gloves that are awesome! I think you can order them online. I bought mine at Fire School.

Mike Favia Outdoors thank you, this is one my wife request often
Man that looked great! And that was very cool how you heated water next to the stove
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate your support

Maria Otero thank you
Bro I love the crown royal bag reminds me of my grandpa he keeps everything in his cr bags lol I’m getting a cr bag for my car
Quelm Miller had a neighbor that was a bartender, she gave me close to a hundred of them. Thought about making a cigar jacket out of them
Have you tried placing the lid upside down and placing charcoal on it too. Thanks for the video.
Dave4234 M I have not, that’s a great idea though. I’ll have to give that a try next go. Thank you
Quite the undertaking there Chef N8. Loooked good, now I'm hungry .
Thank you B, that took a while haha, but it was so good
i have couple of the fireboxes they are Very versitile a lot of thought and engineering went into them

Great demo of these products. What size billy pot was that? And did the heat of the stove scorch the wood stump over the time of use?

Looks really Tasty Nate!!!
I've been looking at a few different natural fuel stoves, looks like Firebox is a good one too.

Great cook system and awesome idea for roasting a bird. Thanks!
Thank you Todd

Awesome video brother! Where did you get your cooking set up? I have never tried baking in one before but I definitely want to try it!
The steam rack came from the Asian market, the bowl I got at a thrift store, I actually took in my pot to find one that fit
But if you go to the Firebox website, he actually has all the baking racks, pans, and dishes you need to do it
What size pot were you using? 14 or 16 cm?
16cm, thanks for watching
what kind of bowl did you put the bird in and where did you get it?

if you would have put the water on to of coals while you were waiting you water would have boiled fast since hot air rises
Your probably right, I did get it to work with the stainless steel cup though. Thank you Gary
yum..
Thank you, it was delicious. If you ever try it let me know what you think

What kind of bag were you storing your firebox in?
goatr1120 the purple bags are Crown Royale Whiskey bags I got from my neighbor who is a bar tender. The pouch I used is the Maxpedition Beefy I'm pretty sure. I've also made a video on that
Thanks man
Which maxpedition are you using for the case?
That is the maxpedition beefy, I ordered it off eBay because it was cheaper than amazon

nice video. How large are the side feed holes?
Pretty sure its 1x2.5 inches
cool. Thank you for getting back to me.
+ronald luu not a problem at all, happy to help
I enjoyed your video except for the screen flip thing as it made me feel like i was falling each time it occurred.
MaZEEZaM I know what you mean. I really appreciate your feedback. I was new to editing and I dont do it like that anymore
Thanks for the reply, I am going to check out your other videos now as apart from that I did enjoy your video and the food certain made me hungry :D
