    Lol. The way she jumps off the trail as the mtbers stop- priceless. I’ve seen that overreaction so many times. I’m a real polite mtber on the trails to everyone, but especially hikers, cause I want us to be able to get more access to trails and also not lose any that we have. Plus I truly believe in multiuse- if we’re all considerate there is no reason we can’t all share the trails and have access to our outdoors. And I figure every hiker I can leave who says, “you know, those mtbers are pretty nice people,” L is an ally in our quest for access. So I go real slow, or stop, and sometimes even chit chat a bit. And most are cool. But every once in a while you get one of those people with their personal bias they can’t let go of that has to make this exaggerated show of shock and fright. Lmao. I love it when they are on a trail either built or maintained by a mtb org- I enjoy chatting with them a bit and casually dropping that in the convo and letting them know they are on OUR trail- in a real nice way. But for sure the piece de resistance are the people with headphones in their ears who don’t hear my bell or my shouting and then get indignant. I wanna punch them in the face. 👊

      @bigzeromike 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kevindonahue2251 You completely missed my point. Hubs are NOT loud like a bell and, more importantly, the tone of their noise is nothing like a bell. A bell is designed to make noise to attract attention. No so for the hub. You and all the other riders that think everyone can hear their hubs are part of the growing problem with negative trail interactions between hikers and bikers. But, the fact that your hubs drive you insane surely tells me you'd be one of the guys that couldn't stand the noise of a bell so you and the "generation of me" that can't think of anyone but themselves will continue to be part of the problem.
      But, if you are looking for a benefit... we all bitch and moan about hikers being in the way and blowing our flow. In the two years I've been riding with a Timber Bell it is rare when hikers don't yield to me. They yield not because they hear my hubs, which is foolish think they could be heard, but because they hear my bell. That's a real benefit I'll take every day of the week. Because I put the whole of mountain biking above my own desires.

    Great video. Pokes fun at a important issue. I passed it along to my advisory group at Oregon State University's McDonald-Dunn Research Forests. The McDonald-Dunn has an excellent series of multi-use gravel roads and trails that are used by hikers, dog walkers (lots of them, and no leashes required), families, bikers of all kinds, and equestrians, like me. For the most part, everyone gets along. We use the right-of-way method where hikers and bikers yield to horses, bikers yield to hikers, and everyone yields to motorized vehicles (it is a working forest, so occasionally there are slow-moving trucks on the gravel roads). However, few people seem to know the etiquette. It is my strong belief that if we all just talk to each other (nicely), e.g., "Hi there! Just wanted you to know there's a horse behind you," we could avoid a lot of conflict. I used to get mad and lecture people. It might work, but it makes everyone involved feel bad. Talking nicely to each other is much better. I hope all of you who are writing these comments are also thinking about how we can make multi-use trails more comfortable for all users. For me, I had to change my own behavior. And just for the record... Yes, it's true that these days many trails are built and maintained by mountain bikers. But many existing trails, especially in National Forests and State Parks (in Oregon, anyway) were built by equestrians. But does it matter who built them if they are multi-use trails?

I've been hiking here for years and enjoying it up until ten years ago when you bikers came and ruined the experience for everyone but yourselves. You destroy the trails and try to kill us flying down the trail two feet away from us!" One thing I've learned is all hikers say the exact same thing.
