I really wish I could see this. Tarzan is such an underrated Disney movie, and the music for this is just incredible! Phil Collins is a genius, and all the actors have incredible voices.
Tarzan in both real and cartoon form are just too hot lol. I've never seen a broadway show and I really wanna see Tarzan and The Lion King. They look and sound amazing. As a musical theatre person, this looks like it'd be a ton of fun to be a part of!
I was fortunate enough to partake in a large scale production of Tarzan the musical and it was absolutely one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. I've truly fallen in love with both the original film's songs and the new songs written for the broadway production. It's an absolute joy to watch and perform. Every time I watch this promo video from the broadway show, I get chills. Love the story.
If they bring this back (which i hope they do) My only change would b that turk as a girl however in the video she is played by a male & i know its a minor detail but she was supposed to show that girls can pay as rough as guys which i feel is an important point to make in our male dominated world
Terk was actually supposed to be male, but when Rosie O'Donnell did the voice test for the character, they decided to change the character into a female. I guess they figured they would change Terk back to make things easier (though I don't see why. Terk was perfect the way she was)
It premiered in 2006 and closed in 2007. 486 performances. It received mixed reviews, the bad reviews discussing the over the top acrobatics, simple lyrics and "Phil Collins' bland score."
I feel like this could of been REALLY GOOD but the costuming and set is Awful.And I feel the vine swing could have been approached differently and the color of the neon green vines didn't fit the jungle theme. I feel the singing in the song lacked that theatre magic,it needed more flavor and feeling.i feel they should of used a more lion king approach to this and gone to a more puppet route rather then the weird string costume.
It's perfect! The only thing that bothers me is that Terk is played by a male (though Chester ROCKS IT!!) But having a strong tomboyish female character at the time was (in my opinion) a huge thing for Disney! Terk was my inspiration growing up and to see it change was disheartening. No need to be sad about it though! Most theatre companies cast females as Terk! Sing it loud and sing it proud!
Yeah! I burst out laughing as soon as they all came out because I couldn't figure out what was going on. I love the beginning part where the parents are held up on these aerial ropes at an angle to simulate a bird's eye view for us, and emphasise how they're lost in the middle of nowhere.
A lot of gorilla suits in this musical look like thick body con sentai suits glued to felty, dreadlocked fake fur. The main reason is that budget issues plague this musical and various other plays big and small. Not only are the suits so dreadlocked, they do not closely resemble the bodies of actual gorillas for budget related reasons.
Since I was a wee baby ape once upon a time I always wanted to see the movie "Tarzan" live with your man swingin about the jungle to phil collins chirping away in the background about some worlds and some family buisness going down. Well I went down yesterday afternoon, and Wow it did not dissapoint. Hit all the right buttons with me, definetly one to watch if you love the show. Cheers Tarzan Lad, you made my day! Swung myself home just to tell everyone about it. Good job!

I know most people thought Terk was a guy even though Rosie voiced the part, but even Terk's mother refers to her as "little lady" near the beginning of the film. PLUS I've always thought it was commentary on all Tarzans relationships with females. First is mother/son with Kala, then it's best friend with Terk who just happens to be female and finally we have the romantic one with Jane now that Tarzan knows he's a 'human'. And while I love Josh to death as a talent, I would have preferred the role had stayed in the baritone range alaTony Goldwyn's speaking voice in the film. I know the cliche for stage is that leading men especially the romantic male leads are tenors, but there's just something about that lower baritone speaking voice of Tony's that I just ADORE...
Okay, but when is this being revived.... this was better than most of the shows on Broadway right now Can someone make sure this and Hunchback make it to the West End soon because I need to see good musicals
Hunchback is a hard one to do on Broadway. I've been wishing for years but the issue is they need an entire choir on stage for most of the songs so the stages just aren't big enough
Trust me... the german one looked better by comparison... look at the broadway bootleg... the the german one... you can REALLY notice one immerses the audience with the characters

I just discovered that the actress who played Kala in the musical is Merle Dandridge who voiced Marlene in the game "The Last Of Us" and later went on to play her again in the TV show adaptation.

They REALLY got Tarzan's dad SPOT ON. Not so much his mother, but his dad looks IDENTICAL to the movie. I'm sad this had to get cancelled. It looks beautiful.

If youd see how they do this at Disneyland Paris they've had a Tarzan Encounter show with acrobatics, and stuff you really should check it out.

I feel the same way. BB can work with just a few plot trimmings, new songs and better animal costumes than this.

Well, the Tarzan musical is somewhat more faithful to the FIRST Tarzan story ever told, Tarzan of the apes.

I saw this with my cousins when it was on Broadway. We had front row seats and the show was ONE OF THE BEST PRODUCTIONS I HAVE EVER SEEN.
