The original VA for Beast Boy deserves an award for this performance alone and throughout season 4 in general. One of the best portrayals of Gar to date.

Black Canary may not be the most "present" Justice League character in medias but she's certainly the embodiment, heart and soul of what a Justice League member should be and it's sad we don't have her more on our TV or videogames.

Young Justice is such an amazing show. Since S1 they have been working with a PHD Psychologist for advisory on their mental health related episodes/arcs. And it culminates in such a powerful message eith Gar breaking and finally getting therapy.

And if you try to claim that “season 1 was the only good one” is also invalid; then why did the equally invalid replies get vastly more likes? @@podrakhalvati nah I just watched season 3 and 4 for the first time and rewatched 1 and 2 in the span of about a month. Season 2 wasn’t as good as I remembered from my childhood. They take the development of all the original characters from szn 1 and throw it all away to focus on new characters (which is fine) except they try to balance development between original and new characters and end up with surface level faces (except blue beetle. This continues on worse for season 3 and 4. Don’t get me wrong I love this show so much, it’s just disappointing to see wasted potential.

It was left open enough to make another season but also had an ending that answered most of the plot points it needed to.
@@cameronbeglin199 that may be true, I don’t know without doing more research into it. I just did a quick search of why. It still makes sense to me that it would end based on lack of enough views. Even if it is the most viewed that does not change the cost of view to cost of production. If it’s not getting enough views to justify the cost of making it then they would cancel it. I hope they do bring it back but I’d also understand the reasoning behind if they did not. As of today I can’t find anything saying they are going to make another season and it’s well past the production range for a season unless they are taking a break but I think that would be announced at some point.
I swear it always feels like any superhero series I watch it’s always feels like the kid-teen heroes be going through the most traumatic experiences than the actual adult heroes.

At the end of the day, The teen titans are just that, teenagers. And when you deal with that much death and that much responsibility put on your shoulders as a kid. That has to be absolutely excruciating.
A little heads up, all of the super heroes have a horrific past or trauma. Not just one, not a handful, all of them. The teens are young adults, and that's why they struggle. They're inexperienced and need guidance like a mentor teaching a student. But all of them have traumatic pasts.

And what does "saving" even mean? They could stop someone from getting killed, but then that person gets hit by a truck the next day and dies anyway. Or gets a heart attack. They aren't truly saving anyone. Just delaying death by a bit in some exceptional circumstances. Why would they beat themselves up about any failure? Every human dies in the end.

this is such a good portray of that. What beast boy says make emotional sense and what the psychologist says makes logical sense. The "you would have done the same thing" makes emotional and logical sense - yet it makes even more sense why beast boy prefers to have died with his loved ones or better yet: He could have saved them, even when he would have had to give his life to it.
Gar experienced a lot of loss in Young Justice. This version of Beast Boy was so different that the reason he lost it was because Superboy died, not because he was his friend, which he was, but because Superboy his closest father figure. Which is so radically different from any Beast Boy interpretation. My biggest regret in the Young Justice cancellation was that we never watch his character arc coming to an end. In the last episode he is shown to be doing better, but not because he confronted his issues but because Connor (Super Boy) came back.
He's lost people in DC in general. Even in the original Teen Titans and GO!, Beast Boy admitted to having lost an entire team before him, but it's much worse for him in the comics.
Actually he was more like a big brother especially considering he married his sister but yeah he lost another family member and it was more than he could take this time
Aside from losing, id argue it was more of sibling role, a brother; Connor was perceived to invincible and Gar couldn't see the possibility of losing him

@@klove5974 This version of Batman wouldn't be half bad. The only potential problem is that he would be quite blunt with his diagnosis and treatment of a patient. That said, this Batman also would not be heartless in said treatment, and would care about their success. Unfortunately, a lot of modern Batman iterations forget the fact that at the end of the day he does what he does because he loves people. And, more importantly, believes in the human capacity for growth and change be it good or ill.

This right here is why I love Beast Boy. Dudes had a massively fucked up life and the only person he blames/hates for it is himself. It resonates a bit too well for me.
Gar is a perfect representation of "the ones who smile the brightest are the most broken". I've always identified with Gar, even as a kid. Now as an adult I understand why.
But it works so well with BB. He's the most humorous character because it's how he mask/cope with his trauma everything. A lot of the deaths he explained are apart of BB OG storyline. This show is much more mature than what we're used to and actually takes a look at what would really be going on with the class clown of the group. Lowkey, a lot of "funny guys" irl are usually subjects of tragedy. It's how they cope, by putting a smile over the frown. If anything this show is teaching life lessons and human psychology. I hope, at the very least, you listen

Worst part of this is that it is very relatable for anyone who lost someone. Especially for accidents. Lost my dad to a blood clot in his lung. The symptoms were starting to show that day and I knew what a clot forming looked like but I didn't recognize it. I was only a high school kid who had taken a lot of medical classes. I failed to see it and so did the doctors who were overworked to the point they couldn't look at him that day. Yet i still blame myself for not being able to help. I know im not alone. I don't know how to help myself but I can try and help others.
The fact that they’re actually showing the darker implications of being a teen superhero is amazing. The situations those kids are put in would mess up the hardest people.
God, when she says he was just 8 years old, he couldn't have done anything, and he says back he just needed to be better. That really hit a chord it shouldn't have for me lol. Having something traumatic happen when you're young and blaming yourself for the rest of your existence is hella exhausting i can attest to that. The voice actors did a really amazing job conveying that much deep emotion in a relatively short amount of time. Props to makin me cry over a clip lmfao :)
Gar is a kind character with a gentle heart. Imagine having his power and still being absolutely powerless… Primates, Mammoths, Dinosaurs, some of the most powerful beasts known to the universe are his to control, and that brute strength is nothing. You can only fight in vain. I just want to hug him.
People always forget. He's constantly fighting turning into a black mamba and assassinating villains. Becoming a peregrine falcon and flying to any location from 10 miles out too low for radar or detection, turning into a mosquito and killing people with malaria. Becoming a hippopotamus and severing their spines. A rock grouper and poisoning them. A t Rex and biting their heads off.

Yeah, I lost my bio father when I was 15. Was adopted at birth. Only saw him maybe 3 times before he died. Adoptive mother died in 2003. At least she died without knowing I had cancer. Dad couldn't come to see me because it was too much for him. Mom died 8 months before I got diagnosed

Her voice is so powerful it cuts and breaks down all around her. So why can't her voice be able to reach those around her, to cut through the noise, the walls built up inside, the sounds and experiences threatening to drown the person inside. A light in the dark. I like this interpretation of Black Canary. In the TV show Justice League she was a very smart intuitive individual. At least that's how I've always seen her as. So in my opinion this fits her better.☺️💖 That's just my humble opinion though.😁

Him listing out so many people that died made my heart sink. For a lot of people it's usually just "My parents passed away" or "I lost my friend" but for him, it's just an endless cycle. It's easy for him to make friends but as a hero, it's just as easy to lose them.
Honestly, this HAS to hit harder for people with superpowers like there's an understanding of humans can only do so much but knowing you HAVE the power to do so much more and that you could have definitely could have changed their fates only to still "fail" must hit *HARD*
I’ve seen some people critique that if beast boy knows that he’s pushing people away why would he keep doing it, since pushing people away at your weakest is harmful to you. But that’s kinda the thing about being in a mental state like this when you’re dealing with past trauma and grief, you can know what you’re doing is harmful to you and everyone around you, and know that that’s wrong, but because of the pain and depression or your mental state, you just don’t care, it’s not in a malicious way you are just also riding out these intense emotions and it sometimes doesn’t matter how logical approach you and your friends can try to combat it. It just takes gentle patience and reminders that “it’s okay to sit with this pain” and just to try to ride the waves and keep hope that you will be ready to accept help once you’re ready.
I remember watching Teen titans in my younger years with Beast boy my favorite, seeing this serious broke me seeing how broken Beast boy was, I cried for the day, the next day I go to turn it on and cry again
All this has taught me is that every great team needs a dedicated therapist. Mans really went "Gar you were 8 years old..." "OKAY AND??? I COULD'VE CLUTCHED IT" "Bruh-"

I love the way Young Justice portrayed Gar, it's the best in my opinion. They showed a real side to him, the side battling with depression, what he was masking by being goofy and happy. It's really sobering but refreshing to see.
Two of my favorite portrayals in this moment: Beast Boy isn't some goofy comic relief character that throws a tantrum one episode, and is fine by the end, the series' trauma has piled onto him throughout. As someone who grew up hearing that same VA in teen titans, hearing them portray a depressed, broken Beast Boy hits Hard. And I absolutely Love Canary here. She isn't brought on keep the older people watching entertained, she's being genuine, pushing gently, but not overstepping, and is motherly, Finally a series makes use of her therapist background.
The moment a superhero realizes that he can't protect everyone, not even the ones he loves the most... When they realize that, deep down, they are just a person.
Omg this hit home so hard, I used to blame myself for my mom’s crash that made her paralyzed hip down and unable to speak. I was three and crying cause I wanted milk. She went driving to get milk for me while drunk and next time I saw her she wasn’t the same. This hurt to watch, I still try to remind myself it’s not my fault since it comes back to my mind a lot.

Fun fact: This side of Beast Boy existed since decades ago. Beast Boy only jokes around because he is severely depressed. Before teen titans he lost an entire team that adopted him as his family and much much more, he is the punching bag of DC, never happy, always losing people.
I honestly expected an interaction with M'gann, where she would say: "Thank you, for loving Connor as much as I did. Thank you for being sad the way I am. It makes me happy to know that my heart isn't the only broken one."
This is something I wish they dealt with more in these shows. Survivors guilt is real and it seems like if it’s brought up in the show at all it’s “fixed” rather quickly. This is the first time I’ve seen it actually presented as a long term battle to overcome.

It’s awful but He definitely isn’t the only one even on his team who’s dealt with it. He doesn’t need to be an ass to everyone that wants to help him even while they struggle
This scene breaks my heart over and fucking over again and it was amazing. The deterioration of his mental health just felt so accurate. It may seem like a sudden snap, but this was built up YEARS in the making.
I would say flash(more specifically Barry Allen) has an argument as well he had his mother killed in front of his eyes and had his dad blamed for it only to find out that a maniac was behind literally every bad thing that happened in his life and even when he got his powers he can't do anything to stop him (a lot of iterations of zoom is fast/stronger than flash) and the only reason he doesn't just kill him is cause he can't if not he stops existing so instead he makes his life living hell just so he could be a part of his legacy. He can't even go back in time without something like flashpoint happening so despite the fact he has the power to make his life what he wants it to be he can't without making it so the world goes to shit he literally had to stop his past self from saving his mother.
@@belethon Altho Barry does have the hardest time with knowing that he COULD save his mother but CANT use his powers to do so, I would say that he still is far from the most tragic character in DC comics. I'd say even Hal Jordan had a harder time or even Wally West who was literally phased out of existence and came back only to find out that he was forgotten and replaced by a different Wally West.
Meanwhile, Roy Harper, who lost his arm, his daughter and was addicted to drugs, had died and was resurrected, sitting in the corner having a pleasant conversation with Martian Manhunter, who has witnessed the genocide of his entire race and family from his evil brother.
Beast boys arch was phenomenal, this is how you do mental health in a show. Especially on a type of mental health so dark in a show that is already pretty dark
I really hope they bring back Wally, it would cause a lot of confusion and drama and really challenge Beast Boy's resolve in his recovery and treatment from his depression.
It's like when you feel weak and helpless when you fail to save someone, that invisible scar grows and only thing you can do is just put the smiley sticker on it but inside it'll keep growing...
The thing about the Young justice chronolgy that I like the best is that they actually address the fact that being a super hero would be super traumatizing.
Holy FUCK, I love the way they tackled mental health in this show. It made sense, didn’t feel forced, you learned from it and it can invoked an emotional response from the viewer. Masterclass in writing.
It's both great and heartbreaking to see him properly portrayed.

As of today I can’t find anything saying they are going to make another season and it’s well past the production range for a season unless they are taking a break but I think that would be announced at some point.

At the end of the day, The teen titans are just that, teenagers. And when you deal with that much death and that much responsibility put on your shoulders as a kid. That has to be absolutely excruciating.
A little heads up, all of the super heroes have a horrific past or trauma. Not just one, not a handful, all of them. The teens are young adults, and that's why they struggle. They're inexperienced and need guidance like a mentor teaching a student. But all of them have traumatic pasts.

That’s always the most difficult thing to accept about being a superhero. No matter how much or how hard you try, you simply can’t save everyone.
And what does "saving" even mean? They could stop someone from getting killed, but then that person gets hit by a truck the next day and dies anyway. Or gets a heart attack.
They aren't truly saving anyone. Just delaying death by a bit in some exceptional circumstances. Why would they beat themselves up about any failure? Every human dies in the end.

The "you would have done the same thing" makes emotional and logical sense - yet it makes even more sense why beast boy prefers to have died with his loved ones or better yet: He could have saved them, even when he would have had to give his life to it.

Gar experienced a lot of loss in Young Justice. This version of Beast Boy was so different that the reason he lost it was because Superboy died, not because he was his friend, which he was, but because Superboy his closest father figure. Which is so radically different from any Beast Boy interpretation. My biggest regret in the Young Justice cancellation was that we never watch his character arc coming to an end. In the last episode he is shown to be doing better, but not because he confronted his issues but because Connor (Super Boy) came back.
He's lost people in DC in general. Even in the original Teen Titans and GO!, Beast Boy admitted to having lost an entire team before him, but it's much worse for him in the comics.
Actually he was more like a big brother especially considering he married his sister but yeah he lost another family member and it was more than he could take this time
Beast boy is a pretty tragic character in Teen Titans and young justice even more so the comics
Aside from losing, id argue it was more of sibling role, a brother; Connor was perceived to invincible and Gar couldn't see the possibility of losing him
Garfield really does suffer and puts up a front to hide his pain, this is one of the moments he has broken that mask he's made for himself.

That said, this Batman also would not be heartless in said treatment, and would care about their success. Unfortunately, a lot of modern Batman iterations forget the fact that at the end of the day he does what he does because he loves people. And, more importantly, believes in the human capacity for growth and change be it good or ill.

Worst part of this is that it is very relatable for anyone who lost someone. Especially for accidents.
Lost my dad to a blood clot in his lung. The symptoms were starting to show that day and I knew what a clot forming looked like but I didn't recognize it. I was only a high school kid who had taken a lot of medical classes. I failed to see it and so did the doctors who were overworked to the point they couldn't look at him that day. Yet i still blame myself for not being able to help.
I know im not alone. I don't know how to help myself but I can try and help others.

God, when she says he was just 8 years old, he couldn't have done anything, and he says back he just needed to be better. That really hit a chord it shouldn't have for me lol. Having something traumatic happen when you're young and blaming yourself for the rest of your existence is hella exhausting i can attest to that. The voice actors did a really amazing job conveying that much deep emotion in a relatively short amount of time. Props to makin me cry over a clip lmfao :)

People always forget. He's constantly fighting turning into a black mamba and assassinating villains. Becoming a peregrine falcon and flying to any location from 10 miles out too low for radar or detection, turning into a mosquito and killing people with malaria. Becoming a hippopotamus and severing their spines. A rock grouper and poisoning them. A t Rex and biting their heads off.

So why can't her voice be able to reach those around her, to cut through the noise, the walls built up inside, the sounds and experiences threatening to drown the person inside. A light in the dark. I like this interpretation of Black Canary. In the TV show Justice League she was a very smart intuitive individual. At least that's how I've always seen her as. Beast boy has always been my favourite teen titan, but this clip made me relate to him even more
Him listing out so many people that died made my heart sink. For a lot of people it's usually just "My parents passed away" or "I lost my friend" but for him, it's just an endless cycle. It's easy for him to make friends but as a hero, it's just as easy to lose them.

Honestly, this HAS to hit harder for people with superpowers like there's an understanding of humans can only do so much but knowing you HAVE the power to do so much more and that you could have definitely could have changed their fates only to still "fail" must hit *HARD*

I’ve seen some people critique that if beast boy knows that he’s pushing people away why would he keep doing it, since pushing people away at your weakest is harmful to you. But that’s kinda the thing about being in a mental state like this when you’re dealing with past trauma and grief, you can know what you’re doing is harmful to you and everyone around you, and know that that’s wrong, but because of the pain and depression or your mental state, you just don’t care, it’s not in a malicious way you are just also riding out these intense emotions and it sometimes doesn’t matter how logical approach you and your friends can try to combat it. It just takes gentle patience and reminders that “it’s okay to sit with this pain” and just to try to ride the waves and keep hope that you will be ready to accept help once you’re ready.

I love the way Young Justice portrayed Gar, it's the best in my opinion. They showed a real side to him, the side battling with depression, what he was masking by being goofy and happy. It's really sobering but refreshing to see.
Two of my favorite portrayals in this moment:
Beast Boy isn't some goofy comic relief character that throws a tantrum one episode, and is fine by the end, the series' trauma has piled onto him throughout. As someone who grew up hearing that same VA in teen titans, hearing them portray a depressed, broken Beast Boy hits Hard.
And I absolutely Love Canary here. She isn't brought on keep the older people watching entertained, she's being genuine, pushing gently, but not overstepping, and is motherly, Finally a series makes use of her therapist background.
The moment a superhero realizes that he can't protect everyone, not even the ones he loves the most... When they realize that, deep down, they are just a person.
Omg this hit home so hard, I used to blame myself for my mom’s crash that made her paralyzed hip down and unable to speak. I was three and crying cause I wanted milk. She went driving to get milk for me while drunk and next time I saw her she wasn’t the same. This hurt to watch, I still try to remind myself it’s not my fault since it comes back to my mind a lot.

This is something I wish they dealt with more in these shows. Survivors guilt is real and it seems like if it’s brought up in the show at all it’s “fixed” rather quickly. This is the first time I’ve seen it actually presented as a long term battle to overcome.

This scene breaks my heart over and fucking over again and it was amazing. The deterioration of his mental health just felt so accurate. It may seem like a sudden snap, but this was built up YEARS in the making.

I would say flash(more specifically Barry Allen) has an argument as well he had his mother killed in front of his eyes and had his dad blamed for it only to find out that a maniac was behind literally every bad thing that happened in his life and even when he got his powers he can't do anything to stop him (a lot of iterations of zoom is fast/stronger than flash) and the only reason he doesn't just kill him is cause he can't if not he stops existing so instead he makes his life living hell just so he could be a part of his legacy. He can't even go back in time without something like flashpoint happening so despite the fact he has the power to make his life what he wants it to be he can't without making it so the world goes to shit he literally had to stop his past self from saving his mother.

Meanwhile, Roy Harper, who lost his arm, his daughter and was addicted to drugs, had died and was resurrected, sitting in the corner having a pleasant conversation with Martian Manhunter, who has witnessed the genocide of his entire race and family from his evil brother.

Beast boys arch was phenomenal, this is how you do mental health in a show. Especially on a type of mental health so dark in a show that is already pretty dark

I really hope they bring back Wally, it would cause a lot of confusion and drama and really challenge Beast Boy's resolve in his recovery and treatment from his depression.
