Thank you! A friend gave us a bunch of Irises recently. They’ve been in water for about two weeks. They still look good and now I know how to replant them! Thank you!
I have several beautiful purple irises that have been in the ground for well over 10 years. They come up every year and they are still beautiful. I have never touched them in all the 10 years of them growing. However the roots have surfaced the ground and they have spread over the entire circular flower bed. I have not touched them because I don't know what I am suppose to do. Have they grown so much that they are crowding each other ? I would like to cut them back and aleast remove half of them and the roots from spreading all over the rest of the flower bed. Any advise would be helpful. Thank You.
I agree with missourigirl. I kept trying to readjust my screen to get a lower view to see what you’re doing. (There’s lots of space above your head.) Wonderful information though, so THANK YOU!
Thank you for the info. Yes, your camera man needed to lower the camera🥹. But I got some great info. We got some plants from our neighbor who was neglecting them. No blooms. I’m looking forward to next year.

I would not leave them in the hot sun, but you can put them in a pile in the shade for a few days after you have dug them up before you transplant them.

I would wait until they are done blooming. You can then easily dig them all our and plant the best looking pieces where you would like them.
I just bought my house few months and I have them every area of my backyard lol.
Trying to learn safely remove and transplant them to give away.
Good video, my new house has them in bunches in front of the house. Loved the bloom and wanted to replant them in a better spot.

I am in zone 6, northern Utah. Irises will grow beautiful in Central Utah. They are unfazed by cold weather and snow

You absolutely can, and they will survive. It may delay flowering until next year though.

Is there a specific fertilizer you use for your irises?
No, I just use whatever all purpose fertilizer I have on hand. I usually only fertilize when I transplant them.
